This is by far my favorite place to hangout in LA. On Monday night they have a Service Industry Night where you can come relax, network, bowl, laugh oh yeah and DRINK! First I want to say that when you arrive it's a very welcoming atmosphere. At the counter where you check in & get shoes there's a guy (I believe his name is Fung) but that guy is awesome. Friendly informative. Gives realistic wait times (if any) definitely a major contributing factor to the fun atmosphere. If you make your way over to the bar (and you definitely should) not only are the drink prices extremely reasonable but they also have and amazing bar staff. I've been a few times and also had a great experience. The two bartenders names are Chelsea & Anthony. Basically the entire staff is amazing. Even the guys they have running food are super friendly and always trying to go that extra step. If food is your thing I can personally say that the wings (both bone in & boneless) are great! So are the sausage pizza and the Irish Nachos (French fries topped with awesomeness) The lanes are all very well maintained and there is always a great selection of balls. As for shoe rentals I know they go to at least size 17 but the may even go higher. This is definitely the place to hangout on Monday if you'd like to meet fellow industry people and escape the "I'm too cool for this" mindset of a lot of Hollywood places. The thing that makes this a place that I will repeat attending is the atmosphere provided by the amazing staff. Bowling is cool. Yes it is! Lucky Strikes is a fusion between bowling alley and night club. It is an absolutely beautiful venue in the heart of Hollywood where all the action is and the mall is above too. Comfy couches and a full bar. Romantic lighting. Bowling alleys are few on this side of town. But this place really is a Hollywood type of venue and it's an upscale place for a party or group to hang out and do something different. Some tips: *There's a dress code. Dress like you are going out for a nice evening. *I suggest Uber or Lyft since it is Hollywood and it can be hard to find a space at times. Plus, it's nice to be dropped off right near the venue. *For the out of towners, there's the Loews hotel within walking distance. *Connect to their wi-fi network. It's free inside. Otherwise, service doesn't work very well. The people that work here are very nice too. I always feel very taken care of. However, I came here for a private event the other day and the music was way too loud. I could not hear the person sitting next to me and I had to scream for them to hear me. We also had to wait in line outside for an hour even though we had RSVP'd for the event a long time ago. It was cold. I visited Lucky Strikes in Hollywood, California and it was definitely a sight for my eyes. The decor had such a Gothic-rock modern flair with a few vintage elements sprinkled in. This place felt so cozy inside and welcomed me with some great music to bop to while in the midst of my new patron exploration. This is the type of place that I would love to bring my girls on the weekend for some drinks, good music and people watching. I'm not much of a bowler but the aesthetic of the glow in the dark bowling lanes makes me want to throw on my bowling shoes and bowl a turkey to a strike. I'll just act like I didn't learn those two bowling terms for the sake of this post. There were so many interesting dishes on the menu. So what else is new? Of course I exercised my usual tactics for process of elimination when I'm completely overwhelmed by the menu. This pretty much consists of me giving the server 2-3 items on the menu that I would like. Then I inquire about the portion size and taste of each one. Lastly, I this lucky server gift this server with the honor and permission to surprise me with the one they think I will be the most happy with. I showed up 1.5 hrs early and had almost nothing to do. The LS staff was taking care of everything. -Bayley (Event Sales Manager) and Sean (GM) are incredibly helpful, responsive, and professional. They staffed our event appropriately so no guest waited for drinks and food was readily available. -More than Bowling! We also had room for a photo booth, selfie station, karaoke, & dancing! -Family and adult friendly. GM was soooo rude :( witnessed him in an altercation with a customer asking for an extra mask for her friend that was on the way, he wouldn't give one and said "you can find one at 7/11" and "you're no longer a customer". So disappointed on the service here. They are incredibly difficult to schedule with and it's not because they're super busy, it's because the way the establishment is ran is super disorganized. They messed up my reservations twice. I was suppose to get a whole hour to bowl and they stopped my lane within 40 minutes. Such a fun night at Lucky Strike at Hollywood and Highland. We were excited to come here with four families. Definitely recommend making a reservation which you can do online and then easy to grab shoes (they charge you afterwards) and hit the lanes. We ordered cocktails and excellent Pub style fare including vegan options. Get the fries and the onion rings yum. We bowled for about 2 hours. A very fun family activity in the rain. And then you can come out to shop and check out the colorful sights and characters. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is that upon entry we were met by a super aggressive hostess who tried her best to ruin the evening. Even after the incident was over made ride faces to our two teenage kids. The manager quickly saw to her and us and saved the evening. That girl should not be working in service. This past Saturday I co-hosted a co-ed baby shower for one of my best girlfriends and her husband. PER-FEC-TION! Let me say it again! PERFECTION!!! Lucky Strike was awesome! The staff was awesome! The food was awesome! The venue was awesome! From the moment we (the hosts) walked in the door with all my decorations and things, the staff ran over and helped us. Garrett was awesome the whole time. He was so attentive to us and made sure we had everything we needed for our event. He helped us bring everything into the room and helped us set up too! Garrett was awesome! Our bartender, Dave, and our server, Michelle, were the best! They took care of us and our guests perfectly! Everyone had a great time thanks to them. They made sure that there was food and drinks in everyone's hands. They both helped us tremendously by helping us set up and clean up. I am forever grateful! Mitchell, the gentleman handing out bowling shoes, went over and above to help us. Not only did he help our guests get their shoes and have fun, he also helped whenever I ran to him with something I needed. He was amazing! And Dan...the manager...what a guy! Wow! He took the best care of us and made our day run perfectly smooth! He was kind and patient and on top of everything. The venue...SO MUCH FUN! All of guests had a blast! They were bowling and playing Jenga. They were eating and drinking and taking pictures in front of the Step & Repeat. It was perfect for our event! PROS: it's swanky on the inside, the majority of food we got was good (avoid the pizza), they have a fun wall of celebrity scores that have played there, which I think is fun CONS: it's pricey. You pay for the lane by hour and have to rent the shoes separate. I believe the lane was $75, while other places (more run of the mill bowling alleys) are like $30. 1st time coming to this location-Hollywood lucky strike. They offer many different options to entertain ALL adults or family members who don't wish to bowl. Many bowling alleys have changed to this type of dynamic. The renovations are really nice and service was good. I came to actually bowl and practice, which I find is becoming rare. With that said, I came in on a good day to bowl. As the other reviews have highlighted it can get loud and very busy ( long wait times), BUT the day/ time I arrived they had some lanes open and no concerts or events happening. I live in Hollywood, so anywhere that has alcohol and music expect a crowd. A friend told me before they renovated and bought the older alley this used to be where they filmed the big Lebowski, but that's only what I heard. Bowling highlights: Looked like the lanes were still freshly oiled and we'll maintained. They do have target arrow or aka lane markings and underground ball return. The ball return has a working air blower to keeps your hands dry, so if you forget your rosin sac. The interior design and furniture gives the place a nice comfy luxury feeling. They validate parking at the front desk, soon as you walk in. Not sure what they charge for shoes, since I bring my own equipment. Overall, I had a good practice and felt very welcomed. This was a whole mess. While I was at work, my boyfriend who was visiting me from out of state was exploring, found this spot. So I arrive, and my boyfriend is outside telling me of all the madness. A different worker walked out and they started talking. Jose literally said he would make things better, and he did! We got to play a free game together. Then here comes madness again. A man training took our order. Boyfriend orders a tonic water, and a shot of tequila with salt and lime. I order fries and jack on the rocks. Drinks come, my drink is jack and coke. No big deal whatever. My boyfriend got a tonic water with a salted rim and a lime. I'm sorry but whaaaat?! How did nobody look at this and think it was silly?! Who on earth would drink a tonic WATER with so much of a salted rim?! At the end, we wanted to just go. Jose was trying really hard to make sure things would go well for us and he deserves so much. So, closing the tab was a nightmare. The bites and booze came well prepared and quickly. We indulged in a couple skewers of chicken with a teriyaki sauce. The chicken was meh, nothing to drool over, the sauce added some flavor, but I wouldn't order it again, nor suggest anyone else does. It always feels like a party up in Lucky Strikes. Last night, there was a big group of Cross Fit friends that I came here with after watching Michael Murphy's Documentary at the Regal Cinema down the stretch and it surely was a grand of a time through out the whole night. We occupied 3 lanes and we were able to mingle, dance, and bowl as we pleased. The lights were dimmed and the music was flowing along with the music video displayed at the end of each lane, along the wall where the bowling pins are knocked out. Our waiter was very helpful and great at accommodating to our big group of 25-30 people as we continuously ordered cocktails, food, and other random things through out the night. The only thing was our food sometimes took awhile to get out but I guess it's understandable knowing how big of a group we were rolling with. I forgot my socks and they even sell you a pair for $4 dollars. The bar area right when you walk in has a high energy vibe and the bartenders are pretty quick to accommodate you even when the bar is over flowing with thirsty guests. Simply put this place screws you over financially and they don't care. Somehow the $39.95 approach package for 2 hours plus what I was told would be $19 for an extra hour turned into a $96 charge for the 3 hours. That's some pretty creative math to take $58.95 and turn into $96. One reason was they charge you gratuity AND a service charge. Both, seriously? Your service wasn't THAT great. I mean, the waitress was nice and attractive and came around often enough to provide the drinks and when we had problems with the lane, someone did come and help promptly. It's still an excessive cost, on top of also tax as well. This alone takes that $58.95 to about $78. A 32.3% markup. The other explanation was THEY CHARGED US FOR PEOPLE WHO WERE NOT EVEN BOWLING.!!!!!!!! Let that shady business practice set in. We had 11 people bowl the first 2 hours and 8 the extra hour. They charged us for 13 and 10 simply because people were in our vicinity. They didn't tell my friend about this when they sent the bill nor did they have any interest in a partial refund when we tried to rationally explain the situation to them. You'd think the floor manager would have common sense to discern between those bowling/drinking and those not before making up the bill. I mean, the place does have positives. If they treated us right, I'd probably go back. Alas they did not and officially none of us have any interest in going back. Screwing people out of money has that effect. If the manager simply said "I apologize for the mistake and we will give you a $160 refund to PROPERLY charge you", you could potentially have gained a good amount of business. But hey, if $160 is more important to them than good customer service and customer retention, then that is their prerogative and I choose not to support them on it. If I have an itch to bowl, I can go to Canoga Park for a fraction of the price. So if you decide to come here, have fun. Just keep in mind they have every intention of making you damn well pay too much for it. read more
