There were no prices listed on all their products. . I was most uncomfortable shopping. Even after I asked the gentleman checker to call out the prices as he rang me up, he did not do so, until I asked a second time for each item. At the end of this, he stated that he had given me a $3.00 discount on the bill of $93. Overall, the prices turned out reasonable, but I might have purchased more or less, had I known the prices. This is the grocery store that I used to go to when I got my nails done. Since cutting back on 'extras' however, I haven't really been in a while. I remember they always have a nice bakery and clean store. It's the store I'd pick if I were on my way to a picnic or potluck and didn't have time to cook. I only go here for one thing and when I say one I literally mean one thing! VANILLA NUT CREAMER!!! Did you know they only sell Vanilla Nut creamer at Luckys, Food Maxx, and Save Mart? I'm a Safeway girl, but when I want Vanilla Nut creamer I have to go to a Lucky's. This is the only Lucky's that is on my way anywhere, so I stop by this location at around 6:10am with no make up on and sweats.Let me tell you they look at me funny, but I don't really care, because since I got my Vanilla Nut Creamer, I don't care how you look at me. The prices are decent here and the selection is pretty good. I'm not a resident of the area, only here on business for a few weeks, but this place has been able to serve my basic needs well. The employees seem friendly and attentive. I personally used the express checkout to ring my own purchase. The other important fact is that this place is open quite late, able to accommodate those late night cravings for something healthy. I'll be back again. read more

This is the best store and has been for years. The employees at this store always have the best attitudes. Everytime I go here more than one person will ask me if I need assistance and they are happy to help. Everyone that works here has a fabulous and upbeat attitude! The cashiers are phenomenal and I really wish I knew the names of the employees I am talking about. This is my go to store whenever another store doesn't have my favorite stuff and everytime I go in to this Luckys I am reminded of what a phenomenal bunch of kind, professional and funny people work here. I have loved this store for over 20 years. I will be writing another review after I get the names of all the employees who make me feel like I matter as a customer. I've had mostly positive experiences at this Lucky's. The produce is varied and fresh. A big plus is the inclusion of Asian veggies and a seafood section with a helpful clerk. I've always seen someone at the deli section. I don't know if Lucky's had some major training session or what but the associates now seem extra friendly and helpful even more so than before. I have never purchased expired foods at this place. I pick up small amounts of seafood and meat at this Lucky's sometimes twice a week and the quality is no different from any other chain store. I need to respond to some of the reviews below. To categorize this block as "edgy" points to the reviewer's lack of worldly experience. This part of Sunnyvale is literally a stone's throw from major tech companies which are 2-3 blocks away. This area and the parking lot are COMPLETELY SAFE. I've seen panhandlers there twice but they are not threatening. The fact that this mini mall is bustling and full of people guarantees your safety. The cashiers at this Lucky's are all helpful and chill. One even spotted me 30 cents. Seriously, I have no clue about the people who've experienced "rudeness" at this store. read more

If you want to get treated poorly or insulted than this is "you're Lucky Supermarket." The favorite pastime of a majority of the employees at this location is ignoring their job responsibilities and gossiping with each other. This pastime is also shared by most of the management staff. This lucky is yikes. Corporate needs to visit. The older lady with dark hair and sharpied eyebrows with hoops throws so much attitude. She was so rude and stared me down when i asked if another checkstand was open/someone else could come. She literally stared at me, glared icicles, said I DID and then audibly sighed and went back to checking. Unacceptable and rude. One check line open. Other employees chatting. thank god there was one nicer younger gentleman who jumped to our rescue and was the only joy about coming to this store. read more

I had to buy some ingredients to make soup tonight so I dropped by, on my way back to work. The place is pretty organized and clean. However, the exterior does need some updating. I showed up around lunch time and it wasn't busy. I was in and out in around 5 minutes. Prices are slightly higher than their competitors so I prefer to shop somewhere else but since I'm in the neighborhood and short on time, this place will suffice. Parking may be difficult to find since they share the lot with other businesses. read more

Isn't Lucky the cheap version of Safeway? They have a bit of everything and you're guaranteed to fulfill your grocery needs here. I do like the hot food section better at Safeway, also Lucky doesn't have soups or sushi to offer. Other than that, this store is pretty clean and well sorted. I won't be back Even though this is my neighborhood supermarket. Tonight, I was cruising home late and tired. I stopped for celery, lettuce and coffee. Got my items and went to the checkstand. For some reason, my lettuce would not ring up. The checker rang up my purchases while he sent the bag person to get the price or a tag or something. The bag person can't find it. I am waiting, have paid for my other purchases. The bag person comes back twice. Finally I go to show him where it is. There are three bags of similar lettuce, but it won't ring up and he has nothing to show the price. He wants me to pay the spring mix price for hearts-of-romaine. Suddenly it kicks in that I have had a very long day and this is NOT MY PROBLEM. I am sorry that the checker couldn't make an executive decision about the price, but to be honest, he didn't care a whit, having gone on to ring five other people while I was waiting. The poor box person couldn't find the tag or a card or anything that said the price, not his fault either. But, you know, if you've got it out there, and it 's something simple like a bag of hearts-of-romaine lettuce, well, is it too much to ask that I could purchase it? Ok, I know I'm ranting here... I guess I always thought that people who ranted on YELP were working for a competitor, but I guess not! I know that other Lucky's are not this way, because I have always been happy with the Lucky's store in Pinole that I frequently shop. I would put this all in a letter to Lucky, but they don't have a place that I contact them on their website. I guess I should wait until the morning, when I'm really good and angry and call their "comment line"?! ::Laugh::: Well, if this was the only time I had gotten a bad feeling from this Lucky, I would find it in my heart to forgive them, but it's been just one too many times of food that was spoiled (don't ever buy their crab salads) or less than perfect. Back when I lived near here, this was the closest grocery store around. Of course it was an Albertson's then. Those jerks who came to town, told us how awesome they were, how you didn't need a card to get savings, then a year later rolled out their preferred card program. Oh, and turned all their stores in to junkpiles. Let's not forget that. Then they installed the automatic lanes, which were usually broken 50% of the time, and the other 50% of the time there is a 90 year old man trying to scan a non-existant barcode on an apple. My point is, Albertson's sucked. And they are gone, and like a phoenix. Lucky has returned. This is... well, slightly better. This store is still subpar. But it seems to be brighter, less slummy, and, the two times I've been here while cat-sitting, the self check lanes were at 100%. And no cards. I fully expect this store to return to a beater in another year, when the Lucky mystique wears off, by the way. read more

Our cupboards are almost bare from all the holiday festivities and it's time to re-stock, however, I didn't want to drive all the way across town just to go to the grocery store to pick up a few staples. I really didn't want to go to this former Albertson's location because my last visit, a little over a year ago, didn't give me a good impression. The store was dirty and poorly stocked. I thought, what the heck, this time. I didn't want to waste gas, I was here, may as well suck it up and just buy the things I need... When I entered the store, I was very surprised how the store had been transformed. Although it's not Safeway Rivermark - you can tell, there's been some extensive work to clean up and organize this store. I was able to purchase all the staples I needed for my kitchen and then some (S. was with me and he always finds those "sale" items). And oh, yeah! No, discount membership cards to get that "special" price. I'm so glad that Lucky's had returned! I wish all the Albertson's would turn into Lucky's! read more

This Lucky is old, and it's not super fancy, but it is clean, has a decent selection, and the employees are SUPER friendly and helpful.

This is on the edge of Sunnyvale's edgier area so you get all kinds of interesting characters and happenings. Watch your expiration dates, watch your freshness, look for colors that shouldn't be there on things like meat (for instance, on meat, green is not a desirable color). With two doorways in you get a choice of two different panhandlers to augment the ones you'll meet in the parking lot. The drivers' skill is right up there with what you see at the DMV on testing day so ..... If you have a thick skin and a sense of humor, this can be a really fun place. It's basically the local market for the people within a mile or so radius, so it has that "Get-'O Mart" feel. read more

The store is clean, the sales are great, and they have a surprising selection of wine and beer. The staff has always been helpful and friendly and their produce looked above average. Pros: They sometimes stock the elusive jumbo roaster marsh-mellows...don't laugh until you have tried one. Cons: So much food but they never have what I'm looking for. Perhaps this is because I try to avoid the aisles of soda and junk food. And the self check stands...great idea in theory, but every time I use it something causes a problem--like a bottle of wine that needs approval. It would be alright if someone was there to approve it, but this is rarely the case. I still go often since I live so close, but when I can I try to make the trek over to Trader Joe's, Safeway, or Sprouts. read more

Deli department needs a lot of work. Waited almost 40 minutes for a hot sandwich and then in the middle of making it, I was told the oven didn't work. Didn't want to waste the sandwich so I said whatever, then ended up getting a sandwich that was missing ingredients that was listed on the menu...anyway, this department could use a little revamping. I was off-site and had to go purchase a pair of tights because we were off to some fancy steakhouse for dinner and I was in the company of upper management, who probably did not want to see that I was wearing a skirt in cold cold weather. After receiving direction to the closest Target in Sunnyvale, I headed off hoping that the darn traffic here in South Bay would enable my prompt return for the carpool to the restaurant. Then, I saw the red sign L U C K Y S shining its eponymous red neon lettering at me. I pulled a U-turn and ran inside. It is a typical store, albeit slightly ghetto. I felt overdressed walking around in there, and I was just in business casual clothing. Anyhow, I found the LEGGS tights section and during my aisle wandering, picked up the Lucky brand of mayo priced reasonably at $1.99 as opposed to $3.99 for Best Foods, a package of green Romaine lettuce for another $1.99, some Fuji apples (that I ate this morning which were fantastic, crunchy and sweet), and my fave Hidden Valley Ranch Packets Buttermilk recipe, 10 for $10!!! What a deal! These packets are normally $1.99 each! For the quick spot to hit before going to work/going home, this Lucky's serves it's clients quickly and efficiently. In fact, I realized too late that I had forgotten my ATM card back at the office and being totally flustered, I apologized and asked if the checker could keep my items on hold while I ran back to retrieve my payment methods. "Did you want to buy them now and come back tomorrow morning to pay for them?" I was silent. It was incredulous and not expected, but in a good way that he trusted me. I told him I was off-site and would not be around, so it was not a problem and I'd be back in 10 minutes. That was a really nice gesture and in response, for my off-site visits to Sunnyvale, I'll be stopping by here for any donuts or other items. They've got my patronage. I'm bumping it up to a 4 star review for their customer service, as the entire staff there were helpful and courteous. A group of staff were in conversation in the aisle and when I came upon them, they parted aside to let me through. Sheesh! I can't even find men to do that in SF! read more

I go here on the way home from Trader Joe's just to get the things I need the TJ's don't have. It's an okay supermarket, a bit pricey compared to TJ's. The staff could be a bit friendlier, there could be more of them, and I certainly don't enjoy dealing with that little woman at the Deli counter. She varies from being rude to just rubbing me up the wrong way with her attitude. It's as if I'm disturbing goodness-knows-what's keeping her busy out the back. I avoid the self checkout like the plague - I hate coming here without handing my hard earned money over to a polite person who says 'thank you.' My biggest gripe about this store and this plaza in general is that it seems to be a magnet for pan handlers, beggars, and assorted bums. There's one beggar in particular who sits out the front on a regular basis with all sorts of radios, guitars, toys, and a professionally printed sign saying 'Don't you care about your veterans?' or something equally obnoxious. They've put up a big sign discouraging people from donating to him but he never seems to go away. Must be making a good living out there judging by the amount of junk he has around him. This place would be a whole lot more pleasant if they could somehow get rid of the homeless. read more

So my husband and I went here last night. I wasn't very impressed. I couldn't find some of the produce I was looking for and the produce department is huge, so it was kinda disappointing. I haven't been to Lucky's for many years. Now I remember why. I only came here because I looked at their weekly ad and they had some good sales. Well I was very disappointed to see that in fact a lot of the items that were supposedly on sale were not. Oh well we are already here lets just get the stuff we need. I mainly went in to get meat that was buy one get one. Found most of the stuff on my list some on sale some very expensive and was cut from the list. Still didn't get out of here without paying $250 I about had a heart attack but at least it was a whopping 11 bags. Speaking of bags. They really need to train the baggers. I mean come on if I wanted my groceries randomly placed all willy nilly I would let a toddler do it. Who puts frozen and boxes in the same bags? It was spread out throughout the bags like that. So when I got home I got to go on a search party to find the items that needed to be refrigerated right away. Good times. My hubby got 4 beers, they were in 4 different bags. Wtf? I can see if you're trying to make room in each bag and do it quickly but seriously, we put the items together so that they can get bagged together so when we get home we can easily put stuff away. Not send a search party and take an extra 20 minutes to sit through the bags. So ya I don't think I will be back anytime soon. Wasn't impressed with the inventory, prices or bagging. read more

I'm typically a Safeway guy but I've recently moved and decided to change shopping venues vs driving a little farther and continuing to give Safeway my $. So I've been here a handful of times and here's what I've seen - Lucky vs Safeway The not so goods. - clean enough but it isn't a super Safeway - smaller selection of items, they match one for on on the popular stuff but some of the more obscure stuff (that Safeway seems to be getting rid of slowly) isn't here. - beater parking lot, others have commented on that too. - harder to find someone to help you with whatever it is - bakery selection is WAY smaller that the Safeway's close by - less friendly overall the goods - prices do seem better than Safeway - meat prices are better for sure - produce selection/quality is OK, just fewer items. - better 'ethnic' food selection - beats Safeway hands down if your cooking Mexican! So for now I'm leaving it at a 3. May adjust it over time, will have to see how it goes. read more

This is a smallish grocery store, easy enough to basically memorize where everything is in a few trips. Store looks slightly rundown and sad, but I can overlook that because the staff are always very friendly. Everyone always asks "how are you?", "Do you need help to your car"? etc... However, I cannot overlook the issue of the parking lot. In one trip today I was asked for change by two different guys hanging out at the entrance. Then pounced on by some girl in the parking lot hocking perfume out of her bag, and finally as I am trying to load my 5 bags of groceries and screaming toddler, some guy in a pickup motions me over and says he's out of gas, can I spare him enough for a gallon! Ugh! I'll be driving to Safeway (even though Lucky is so close to home) just to not deal with this! read more

Since I worked at Safeway in 07 I have since then purchased all my cakes for all my occasions in the bakery. In May I had to order a last minute cake but didn't have many choices and the personnel was rude (that's a whole other help review). I decided to give Lucky a try, I called around 9pm and a courtesy clerk was so kind to help me out in this last second request. The cake was the best cake ever! came out sooo good and I am so thankful. I will purchase all my cakes here from now on. read more

Do not understand how the deli counter makes a dime in the evening. Rang the bell 3 times, was ignored. One of the workers was even out front, couldn't be bothered to look to see if there were any customers. Frequently the evening staffers attitude is quite rude, definitely not thinking about customer service.
