When I need my Filipino roots food fix, I'm happy I don't have to go all the way to my parents' house in Vallejo and I can turn to Lucky Three Seven for some good old comfort food- longsilog, tocilog, lumpia, afritada, adobo, sinigang, lechon, pancit palabok, or whatever daily special is going on. Some friends and I were craving some of this and we decided to go on a food run. It may seem a bit sketchy but it has a neighborly feel and lucky three seven is at the center of it all. There was already a line when we arrived and knew that items were bound to run out. We wanted all of the silog dishes, afritada, and the G-Fire wings. Homeboy at the counter placed our order and like I predicted, they ran out of pork Tocino so we got chicken Tocino, the last serving of longsilog, and afritada. I thought I had ordered the g fire wings but when we got home they weren't in the bag but we weren't charged so it was all good. We definitely had way more than enough food anyway so it worked out. This Pinoy joint has been on my radar for quite a while since they've been featured on several YouTube channels, print media, articles on different websites and I also follow them on Instagram. Local artists and "celebrities" (E-40, Chuy Gomez and etc...) have also flocked to this joint to try their Pinoy food, and the G Fire Wings certainly looked worthy of its name. After being on my bookmarked queue for at least 3 years, we finally managed to visit this establishment on a wet and rainy Sunday afternoon. It was nice of them to have an awning in front of the order counter to provide shelter from the rain for the customers and it was a nice touch. However, I seem to remember from t he videos that you can go in and place your order inside, but the door was closed and had to place our order on the counter, but we didn't mind. We ordered 2 XL Lumpias, 2 Tocino (with egg and rice), 1 Longanisa (with egg and rice) and 6 pieces of G-Fire Wings. As we waited for our order, I noticed that it's a popular take-out spot as people began to "pour" in from the rain picking-up their orders. Waited about 15 minutes and we got into the car and couldn't wait to dig in. (I forgot to take photos of the Longanisa dish) For 2 bucks a piece, the XL Lumpia was somewhat pricey, but it was delicious although a lil bit on the salty side. The Tocino was good, but it didn't excite my mouth. It was just one note, which was sweet...and could've used an acid like vinegar to counter balance the sweetness. I wish the rice was Garlic Rice to make it a "Silog" breakfast dish, but plain white rice it was. And for the G-Fire Wings, I was sadly disappointed since it was dry. Sure it was coated with their sauce, which was OK, I was expecting more kick with a name like that. An although the texture on the exterior was certainly crispy, the batch that we got certainly did not taste fresh as I compared both the wings and drumsticks and both were dry inside and missing the juiciness. Maybe we didn't get a fresh batch, but overall and collectively, I can see why the place is popular. I would like to give them another try and surely would like to order their specials, and maybe I'd get a different batch of G-Fire Wings. To be continued... read more

I might even say they are the best I've ever had. We also ordered the Pork Tocino which came with a scoop of garlic rice and 2 fried eggs on top. While the Pork Tocino was fairly good, the garlic rice was amazing, and we added the extra sauce from the wings on top to make it any better. Hands down some of the best wings I've ever had, if not the best when they're done right which is most of the time. With a few tweeks this is easily a 5 star review. The wings are good AFF!!! Those wings are addicting. The issues I have is the lack of quality service. Sometimes you call to place orders then they don't answer. Simply answering and saying "no phone orders at the moment" can be real a courteousy. Them not answering the phone has become expected and I'll still snow up but the problem is when they don't answer and you get there and they're closed during posted open hours. Some may be thinking, "well no one could answer if they're closed" which is correct... That's why when they're open it's important to at least answer so people at least know they're there and no one's wasting time driving to a place that's closed when the listed hours say they're open. Depending on whose at the window, the service can be good or bad. Most of the staff that I've encountered are solid and the energy is good. Hole in the wall, expected more because everyone tends to hype this place up but I was disappointed and can honestly say this place is overhyped. I ordered the chicken adobo, and the flavor was not what I expected as it was too vinegary tasting. You couldn't get past the vinegar flavor, and all the oil! When the plate gets cold the oil solidifies, not too appetizing or appealing. I also ordered the chicken lumpia which was oversized, but the size was the only thing it had going for it because the flavor disappointed as well. Finally made my way to this restaurant to get them again and they were just as good as I remember! They're not too sweet, garlicky, just so good. Honestly best wings my fiancé and I have ever had. They're pricey, but they're hefty wings that'll get you full. I personally really like eating them with rice. I do have to take a star off b/c they're menu items are limited. They have their "menu" on the wall, but they don't really have those items. They have rotating specials. Usually 2 entrees a day, in addition to the wings and silogs. So that was disappointing. They also don't take card, so if you don't have cash you have to use their little atm machine to get some. I also had their lumpia which was super pricey and just okay. Imo, not worth the price. Rest In Peace to the owner, Artgel Jun Anabo. This place has been bookmarked in my Oakland collection for a long time, and I unfortunately haven't been able to visit quite yet, but I will be sure to make it a priority the next time I visit. I had read about the backstory of this restaurant and how Artgel made it a point to share his culture's influence in the area while also serving his community through food drives and immediately knew I had to go sometime. I have business in Oakland and oftentimes can feel uneasy exploring the area, especially as a lone female. I did however always find comfort in the plethora of Asian restaurants around me and have so much respect for them. Hearing about this tragedy absolutely breaks my heart and while I send my condolences to his family and those who had the honor of knowing him, I also know his legacy will live on. read more

I read some reviews before heading over. A few of them mentioned parking, like "it's best to park in the red and have someone hop out and order food," or "call ahead so you don't have to search for parking!" Maybe I was lucky but I was able to find parking in seconds in the cul-de-sac across the street. I only had to walk about 20 feet and cross the street to get to Lucky Three Seven; doesn't hurt to walk a bit :) As a first timer here, I ordered: 2 XL Pork lumpia - the pork was seasoned to perfection, and was juicy despite the crunchy lumpia wrapper. I don't know how they were able to maintain this without making the lumpia super oily. AND it stayed warm and crispy on my (10 minute) drive home! However, $2/lumpia is a bit steep for me... Longanisa - it's the sweet longanisa, not vigan. Again, not oily at all, which was great! It went so well with the fried egg over rice. I didn't get any tomatoes (as shown in menu picture) but maybe it was supposed to be that way? I ate it with some greens at home because oh boy that was a LOT of fat. 6pc gfire wings - sweet and crunchy. Somehow not swimming in sauce, and somehow again so crunchy and well cooked -- not overcooked -- and super tasty. If you're ordering the plates and have a small appetite, consider sharing!
