Everything was delicious . The chicken is fried to perfection and seasoned very well. The pickles breeding is nice and seasoned and have all the fried pickle feels . The beans were also good. Our server was nice and helpful with the recommendations. The food came out piping hot and didn't have to wait too long for any of our dishes . Our family has been going here for more than 50 years. We've always been satisfied until recently. With the deaths of th owners it has deteriorated greatly. We took ou grandchildren during Christmas break, bad choice,! Even my 17 yr old grandson found the food unpleasant.his,and everyone else's burgers were overcooked and dry. This is a super quaint spot on 5th Ave. Stuck in time from when it first opened in the 50s the menu probably doesn't look much different today as it did then. Fried chicken in the pan, delightful. It won't knock your socks off, but it's tasty, moist, with a little crispiness on the outside. The roll it came with was perfectly fine, and the mashed potatoes were diner quality - nothing special. Chicken salad sandwich was solid, definitely tasty and left me thinking I could down another right there on the spot. Limeade was really nice! They offer a lot of different flavors but I stuck with the classic. The Oreo milkshake definitely had whole Oreos dropped into the blender as the bottom of the glass had some big chunks of cookie - definitely a nice rich and decadent shake to end a meal with. Talk about old time Anchorage Jems and the wishbone tops the list. The best gizzards in town (slightly on the salty side for some folks) that almost melt in the mouth with great crispy coating. Clearly my favorite. The burgers are super special with soft fresh buns and great consistent flavors. They are also known for their chicken which is good though I generally only get the burgers and gizzards. The interior has changed a bit with the new owner but it has not lost its charms with a bar seating and booths. This is an un seasoned mess. This is the thigh that I had to clean before I attempted to eat what I could stomach. This is Pop 5 piece chicken. This chicken was taken out of something or somewhere dipped in flour without any seasoning then fried. Salt and pepper is a beautiful seasoning if that is all you have. In addition to the lack there of seasoning I purchased 2 specialty sauce. Campfire Sauce and Kicking Ranch they were tasty but, not tasty enough to stomach this very bland chicken! For those of us from Alaska, that grew up around the Anchorage area, Lucky Wishbone is part of our lives, even if on the mere occasion. It's the first place our youngest son wants to go eat when he comes home to visit and the reason we went most recently. The orders are always piping hot and fresh! I can personally speak for only a few items... of course the fried chicken... onion rings, shoestring fries, cornbread muffin and the chili cheeseburger! All of which have always been fantastic. The chicken is too hot to eat, so we start with the corn muffin, slowly start to eat fries, and tear apart chicken in order to get that first piece cooling down so you don't burn your mouth. Consistency is the shining star here, never wavering. It was sad when George, the owner, passed away last year and honestly I hated seeing them open the restaurant on Sundays after he passed. I happened to stop by on Lucky Wishbone's 65th anniversary, and it was great! The restaurant was busy but people were moving smoothly through. I only had to wait a couple minutes to get a table right in the middle of lunch hour. Staff was wearing masks and very friendly; they were having fun getting back into things. I ordered the Mom 3 piece, but I asked for all dark with both fries and coleslaw. I had a root beer to drink and ordered a Cherry Garcia milkshake, too. It was so much food! The chicken came out awesome, as usual for Lucky Wishbone. I scarfed it fast while I eyeing some of the heartiest coleslaw I've seen. After that I got to enjoy a feast of sweet and salty flavors with fries and a Cherry Garcia milkshake. At some point half of the roll was caught in the mix, but that's as much as I noticed it with that juicy dark meat chicken next to it. It was a flawless, friendly, and smooth visit from the moment I walked in to the restaurant. I'm going to visit again soon. read more

A small establishment but it can busy at times, as with everything in modern times prices have gone up over the years but to me it is a must stop for some delicious pan fried chicken. Had lunch here today and Austin our server was awesome , I would defiantly ask to be seated in his area again. Had lunch here while in Alaska for the week. A couple of upsides. Menu sounds good, emphasis on sounds. They have their own parking lot which is a big deal in Anchorage or else you have to pay to park. Typical $1.25 per hour, so you can deduct that from your tab with free parking. One more, they have beef chili while most places advertise reindeer chili. Don't ask I didn't try reindeer while I was there. Here's what I found wrong. The place had an overall look of not being clean. I ordered a Halibut sandwich. It's Alaska right? Should be fresh and delicious. Not the case. Frozen Halibut in a plain bun and fries. Very disappointed. My wife had the beef chili which she said was OK, just OK. I am visiting from out of town and wanted this to be a good local diner experience. It started off on an off foot with a sour greeting from a waitress who was not very friendly. We sat down and ordered. Our waitress was better and our initial starter of corn fritters and honey butter was really good, probably the best thing we had that day. We looked at the menu and figured they were known for their chicken so thats what we got. My mom got the BBQ pork sandwich. The order came and we dove in. The chicken was said to be buttermilk battered which I thought meant buttermilk marinated. It does not. Buttermilk marinade like in the south gives the meat a salty and moist flavor. These were dry and flavorless. The meat was bland and the crust was bland. It was cooked ok and the crust was crispy but the flavor was missing. Funny enough, the mashed potatoes that came with it was very peppery and salty. Almost reverse of the flavor profiles I'd want in them. The bbq pork sandwich was just ok. Not great. The sauce tasted very bottle ketchupy. Just meat and bun without any coleslaw to spice it up. We finished with milkshakes for everyone and they were very thick and fresh tasting. They were a hit. Overall a hit and miss, wasn't bad but not the local gem I had hoped. read more

However despite economy going to crap- this place has more than doubled the price of all their items and then imposed a service fee if you don't pay with cash. This place is pretty amazing! Wish we didn't have to go all the way downtown just to get some food, but its kind of worth it. The service here is amazing and it's a pretty nice place. Ended up getting the pop all dark meat and a bacon Swiss burger. Also the fresh blackberry limeade is the best thing I got from here! It was so refreshing and it also has the best Ice you can get! Other than that I wish the chicken had a bit more seasoning to it, but it's nice and crispy and juicy. The burgers here are absolutely delicious. Definitely will come back. The food comes out piping hot, and is so good and loved by all. Their fries are the shoe string kind and always crispy, all 20 of their shakes are good, and really there is no room for improvement, because they stick to what they're good at. However, they won't sit you if your party is incomplete. This adds to the efficiency of the place, and is something to consider. Once again, I ordered food to go, and was handed a large, stapled, double-brown bag containing 15-pc chicken and 5 corn muffins. When I got home, a 25 minute drive, I discovered the cole slaw I had paid $12.99 for was not in the bag and I was not given a second container. I was handed the package and told, "Here's your order!" To sum up my Lucky Wishbone experience... Food, service, prices, and overall experience = Not bad, but also not great. I had high expectations for the chicken, however, it wasn't as good as I had hoped, and I much prefer KFC or Popeyes compared to what Lucky Wishbone served up. There were also some annoying aspects regarding their menu options. For example, their hamburgers don't come with fries so you have to pay an extra five dollars just to get fries for a burger that already costs over $10. So in essence you are paying at least $15-$20 for a burger and fries which in my opinion is price gouging. When I order a $12 or $15 burger, fries should come with it. Period. read more
