I moved to Cleveland right before the COVID lockdown started, so I've only recently started hitting up famed Cleveland establishments. So there I was, just watching Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives (as you do), and saw Lucky's Cafe featured, particularly its biscuits and gravy. That's one of my favorite foods, so I had to go and check out these tv famous biscuits myself! We went on a busy Sunday late morning, having to wait a bit for a table to fit the three of us. Once we were seated, the waiter took our drink orders then went AWOL for like 15 minutes until we flagged someone else down. I didn't get a drink but the others at my table did and they said their chocolate-heavy coffees were very good, although kind of cooled down. For food, we all ordered something different with me, the only meat-eater, ordering the biscuits and gravy. These are cheddar scallion biscuits topped with scrambled eggs and a sausage gravy. I had the gravy on the side. It also included hash browns and a few grapes. The biscuits were very good, although kind of hard - remencent of a hockey puck. I liked them anyway as I love creative savory biscuits and the scallions really stood out. The gravy was delish as well. The potatoes were good, although i wish there was more of them, and the grapes somewhat soft, but we did come in late on a busy day so maybe I just got the bottom of the barrel grapes. Brunch is LIFE. The west side seems to be full of amazing spots and I'd add this place to the list. Good food, nice options, small, trendy interior, good service, in-house made bread and jam, locally sources vegetables, and good vegan options. parking is a bit difficult to find, the prices were a bit much for the quality of food (but perhaps understandable with all their locally sourced, healthy options), not too many menu options in general (still good though), and parties of 6 or more do not get their check split. I know it is supposed to be higher quality, but it is costly. Our server dropped the check and I went to pay. Paid the bill and ordered some pastries to go. These were good, but not great especially considering the price. So I get back to our table and the server questions whether I paid in a very accusatory manner. We stopped on our way out of the downtown area on a Sunday and had to wait about 30 minutes for a table for 2. It was well worth the wait. What a cute place. Service was great. Our waitress gave us a quick description of their offerings and suggested we try a cinnamon roll made fresh and only available on the weekends. We opted for those to start and ordered a Thai tea and some water. The rolls were warm and delicious - cupcake size, so not overly filling to start. We opted for the waffles and biscuits. The waffles came with a strawberry rhubarb compote and fresh whipped cream. Yummy!! The biscuits were phenomenal. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very cute and quaint, we had to wait for a little while when we walked in but we sat down much quicker than at expected. The service just felt very off after ordering our drinks. I felt the server was treating those around us with a better attitude and not treating us with same energy. The server was not moving with urgency or punctuality to get people out of there after we and the table next to us asked for our checks and had to wait a while after the server walked past our table multiple times just looking around. Preparing for a short trip to Cleveland OH, I searched YouTube for some places to eat that would enhance the business trip. I came across Lucky's Cafe from a YouTube video from Guy Fieri's "Diners, Drive-Ins And Dines" TV show. He had a show focused on Lucky's Cafe mainly focused on the Reuben Sandwich and all the care and love that goes in to making the sandwich with every aspect being fresh made. I was hooked instantly and put it on the top of my list. I found the small but very cute restaurant, and ordered the sandwich along with an Earl Grey Lemonade. I was not at all disappointed as the sandwich was presented beautifully and very tasteful and delicious. A Reuben is not a sandwich that I typically pursue. It is made from corn beef, sauerkraut, thousand island dressing and rye bread usually, and is decent to enjoy from time to time. The sandwich at Lucky's Cafe was delicious though and I would pursue this one more if only I lived closer. If you find yourself in Cleveland, OH, look this one up. After we landed in Cleveland, our group decided to look for somewhere to have breakfast at. My husband found this place on Yelp, so we all agreed to check it out. Small, cute restaurant with a small menu to match. My husband and I split the Reuben sandwich and I am so glad we did! I didn't even finish my half of the sandwich - it was greasy and way too heavy. My friends ordered the waffles which looked DELICIOUS and the granola and fruit bowl which also looked excellent. They both said they liked their meals. When I first noticed this was when my friend and I ordered 16oz hot drinks. They brought us out massive cups and they fill their drinks to the brim (almost). We were quite surprised that we asked if this was the smallest size, they responded yes. As for the food, I was immediately intrigued by the menu options shipwreck and canoewreck (it's such clever names!). I decided to opt for shipwreck. My friend decided to choose the biscuits because it was featured the TV show "The Best Things I've Ever Ate". Ultimately, we decided to share both dishes. Cute restaurant! A nice spot in Tremont for breakfast. Check the hours, they are not open for early breakfast or on Tuesdays. I went with my mom and we had a great time. The menu options for breakfast was a little limited, but we did enjoy getting a breakfast item and a Reuben before 10 AM to make it a fun brunch. Went for brunch this morning (Sat). It was packed. Got there at 11 and there was a 40 min wait- took at least 40 mins. Right as we were seated the place seemed to clear out a bit. It's cozy inside, not mainly tables and everyone is friendly. We had the biscuits and gravy, shipwreck and pecan bacon. Shipwreck, hold the toast, was about the only gluten free find without doing side orders. It was really good. Hubs said the biscuits and gravy were good. It's no secret Lucky's Cafe is a legit breakfast and lunch powerhouse with an amazing bread, coffee and bakery selection to boot. Whether you sit inside or dine in the side yard...you can bring your dog if you do, you will love the food, vibe and service at Lucky's. I try not to order the same thing every time we go to Lucky's but I love the waffles that much! Oh and the chai is amazing too, especially if they dust it with cinnamon and cloves. My husband is partial to the bacon, eggs of any variety and the pile of breakfast potatoes. Whatever you order, lunch or breakfast you will not be disappointed, you can taste the local ingredients and scratch made goodness coming from the kitchen. I really wanted to like this place, but it just didn't deliver. I ordered two plain waffles and they were super dry -- no butter, no flavor, just bland. What made it worse was that syrup wasn't included. I had to pay an extra $4 just to get some on the side. For that price, I expected at least something special, but nope -- just syrup. The menu was also frustrating. Everything was so over-the-top and "fancy" that there wasn't a single normal breakfast item. I wish I knew that Lucky's took reservations because it would've saved me a lot of time. I've heard great things about this place, and have had it on my list for a long while to try out. So I finally had a Saturday morning where I was able to go! Unfortunately, when we got there they said there was about a 1.5 hour wait. So we went somewhere else for coffee during that wait, although they called us back a half hour later. So we had to drive back only to find that our table was gone, as our drive back was 10 minutes but she then told us that they give our table away after five minutes. That was somewhat upsetting, so we put our names on the list again for another 20 minute wait. Eventually, we just decided to get it to go and sit at the park bench she's across the street. Nonetheless, the people who worked there were really nice and I'm assuming it was just the craziness of how busy the place was so I am understandable of that. Since the place was overcrowded and with COVID still in full swing, I appreciated eating outside on a beautiful day more anyways. ALSO, wanted to take note of something I GREATLY appreciate that I never see anywhere anymore. The hostesses and people up front that worked there were ALL wearing masks and were wearing them CORRECTLY. Thank you for that. A lot of us genuinely appreciate it. Moving onto the food. I got the breakfast burritos. The sauce was really good and flavorful and I loved dipping the potatoes into it. Although the portions could've been bigger at that cost... it seemed like a really small burrito so I feel like with two, it would've been the perfect amount. We also got the biscuits. Went out for breakfast for my birthday - we had seen it featured in Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives and it looked so good we had to try it! Parking in Tremont just stinks, so we knew before we even arrived that finding a spot would be a challenge. We only had to park a block or so away, so that was a nice surprise. We had to wait about 5 minutes for a table, so we just sat on a bench in the park across the street which was nice and in the shade. Our server was quick to explain that what they don't grow in the garden at the restaurant is sourced from local producers within a 100-mile radius, they are very serious about farm to table. We ordered specialty coffees to start, and they also brought out glasses of water in aluminum tumblers which helped to keep our drinks nice and cold. They also gave us a bottle of water at the table to use to refill ourselves which I appreciated. I a not much of a coffee drinker, but I gave in and ordered a mocha with a shot of marshmallow. It was so dang yummy - I almost finished it all before my food came! My boyfriend and my daughter both got the cheddar biscuits with gravy and said it was really good. I had the waffles with strawberry rhubarb compote, whipped cream, and caramel drizzle and it was so, so amazing!! I rarely finish my food at restaurants but I wiped my plate clean here - the compote was just so sweet, tart, and delicious. They have a variety of sandwiches too - I wanted to try the Reuben, but for sides, they only offer potato salad and that is one thing I just don't like. If there had been chips or fries I would have changed my mind. A couple that sat next to us asked if we were visiting for the first time (when we were looking at the menu) and said that they came regularly and that everything was delicious, so that was nice to know! Since it was my birthday they brought my waffles with little candles on it - I thought it was very thoughtful! All the servers seemed to look out for all the tables, so even though we had one main one to take our order and bring drinks, the others jumped in when we needed our check, etc. After eating we went outside and walked through their garden - they grow so much of their food right there on the property! Lucky's is not cheap - breakfast for three with specialty coffees came to about $70 before tip, but when the food is that good, it's worth it. This place was so amazing! The Fall Squash Dumpling starter recommended by our bubbly friendly and helpful waitress Molly was the highlight of the breakfast show. Dumplings, corn and vegetables all were perfectly meshed into a warm fill up your belly and take a nap dish reminding you of grandmas cooking. The Fireside S'more Mocha was presented so beautifully. My husband does not like coffee but absolutely loved this spin. The Wagu Beef Stew was also extremely flavorful and filled with a decent amount of meat and vegetables. Going out for breakfast isn't super easy, always, as a vegan -- so when looking for a spot for myself and the crew while passing thru Cleveland, I invoked the "tofu scramble" Yelp search, very quickly yielding this solid recommendation. Within short order, I learned that Guy Fieri had blown this spot up a bit with a feature on The Show with The Alliterative Title, but I digress -- I'm not there for that. I'm there for the Canoe Wreck (with Dry Toast), which I now know is definitively The Best tofu scramble I've ever had. Lucky's Cafe is easily one of the best brunch spots in Cleveland. It is very well known, which means there will probably be a bit of a wait if you are going on the weekends, but it is so worth it. I got the Shipwreck which is, simply put, delectable. This meal was easily large enough to eat half of it and take some home after to enjoy it just as much the second time. The Caramel Creme Breve is a great choice if the taste of coffee is not your favorite. It is sweet, but has enough espresso in it to get the job done. The servers were prompt with everything that they served us with, and they work great together as a team. We had several servers check on us throughout our meal and all were nothing but friendly. Stopped in during thanksgiving weekend for brunch & there was about an hour wait to be seated. There is outdoor seating but the weather was not in our favor. The spot is pretty cozy & there isn't much room to wait inside so we went to the car & returned within an hr. When we returned some tables were empty but we had to wait another 5 mins to be seated. Their menu isn't extensive but from Yelp it appeared everyone ordered the waffles & the egg scramble called the shipwreck. This was our first stop after flying in from Vegas to spend a long wkend here in Cleveland... and we're definitely glad we chose this spot and not anywhere else... This is a tiny establishment and is situated in the middle of family homes and can be easily missed. What a gem!! The food was delicious and so fresh. They have a garden in a the back where they pick their ingredients from so it's definitely a "farm to table" situation. Portions were perfect and the lattes we ordered were spot on. My bf ordered the Lucky Latte w/ coconut milk and I ordered a vanilla flavored latte w/ coconut milk. Both tasted so good we ordered a second cup "to go" for our Cleveland adventures. Service was wonderful as well. They also have a bakery if the "sit down restaurant" is not your thing. We were told the pastries change daily so stop to see what they have for that day. We got a blueberry coconut scone that was absolutely perfect, not sweet at all (which is how I like it) and a chocolate chip cookie. We arrived as they had just opened so I can see a wait if you go later. Buuuuutttt, the other day, my friend was visiting from Vegas, so we decided to give it a go for brunch. It was a sunny morning, and although the hostess told us 45 minutes to an hour, we ended up only waiting for about 20 minutes total. Our food came fast and it was so good. The venue was perfectly small, yet perfectly socially distanced. I appreciated having plenty of space between us and other tables, and even a spot for my stroller. We had the gingerbread waffles, the shipwreck, and the biscuits/gravy. All three were superb, but especially the biscuits. I think my dining companion enjoyed the waffles the most. Went to Luckys for brunch on Saturday morning. Got there around 10:40 and the wait was 40-45 minutes. It got much longer between then and 11 so I would get there between 10:15-10:30. There isn't much room to wait inside so be prepared for that. However, it's a really cute place with a little cafe in the front where you can get coffee and baked goods. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was because the service was a bit slow. Took a while for someone to come over and get our drink order. I ordered the biscuits with the gravy on the side. If you're looking for a great brunch spot, look no further. My parter had the biscuits and gravy, he said the best he has ever eaten. I had a BLT, it had tomatoes from the garden behind the cafe, fresh lettuce, locally farmed bacon and a mild avocado/corn dressing for the condiment. So delicious. Everything is made in house or local and we could tell by the tastes of everything we had. A severely underrated location in Cleveland! I took my mom for a nice Sunday brunch and I was honestly blown away. All of their food is locally sourced and so fresh. We ended up splitting a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato bisque. The grilled cheese had spinach and mushrooms. It was honestly so crispy and light despite being full of butter and cheese. The waitress recommended the matcha melon tea as their special and it was so light and perfect for a summer day. This place is the best. We waited in line with others for their 9:00 opening on Saturday. We sat at a stenciled picnic table on the cool patio. They have a garden and use home-grown veggies. There are also plants on top of the surrounding fence. Lovely atmosphere. The staff was friendly, and food was amazing. We were given cold water, and we ordered coffee. Iced for my husband, and a Lucky's Latte for me. So good. Husband got the Shipwreck, and I had the Omelette, which is all veggie, served with potatoes, fruit, and banana bread. Our only complaint is that the menu calls them "hash browns" but they aren't. They are skillet potatoes in chunks. Still tasty. We needed to-go boxes because it was so filling.
