I've always been able to snag a table for 4 in the back without a reservation where it's darker and away from the crowd. French onion soup is quite tasty and the burger is pretty good... however their fried chicken sandwich tasted like a hockey puck soaked in Tobasco... so spicy, I had to run to the bar to get the fire put out in my mouth because the server couldn't refill my Diet Coke fast enough. read more

Another fantastic dinner party at Luckys, which has become our go-to place in Malibu. I was there the day it opened, and it has only gotten better and better -- and is now quite the hot spot. Eight of us celebrated a birthday dinner last night (at our old Nobu table) -- we had various salads, crab and shrimp cocktails, steaks, chicken, cheeseburgers (fantastic!), several orders of the best ever onion rings (and a brilliant french onion soup), cocktails and a few bottles of wine and lots of desserts. To be honest I was not going to leave a review , but after seeing some of the recent reviews left I feel I need to speak up. My Husband and I was having an early dinner this evening at Lucky's and we was seated with no issue or wait shortly after being seated we noticed officers armed with pistols and bulletproof vest on patrolling the inside and outside of the restaurant. I'm not entirely sure what was going on but at one point I seen 2 ladies come in and be escorted out by the manager that was just the start of very bazaar experience. When I asked the manager what was going on he told me that the safety was the main concern of the restaurant. I'm not sure what he meant because it seem to be average people from all walks of life that was being turned away. Some of whom was trying to tell them that they had drove a long way for this reservation. My husband and I ended up, leaving without eating a whole lot and feeling very uneasy with our Fourth of July dinner. I will attach a few photos to take into consideration before you go. I gets a phone call to confirm my dinner for partyof 2 at 6:15. So i got a confirmation call . I gets to luckys checks in , goes to wash my hands in the ladies room to come out to them telling my husband they can't seat us do to our "party being too large ?" then they had security with guns and bullet proof vests on escort us out . Is this establishment not safe when they have to have security with guns and vests on ? Is there lots of crime in this restaurant? I have never ever been in a dining establishment with so many armed security officers . I brought my carnivore beau here for his birthday on a Sunday evening. The staff were what you expect at a fine establishment and the bartender slung us a few amazing mocktails while we waited for our table. He was quiet once our meal arrived which tells me his pepper steak and cream of corn were that good! I on the other hand was over the moon for their vegan dish of tofu over a bed of sautéed spinach and garlic, topped with divine mushrooms in what I would describe as a ginger miso sauce. I was visiting from Arizona for my Birthday week and decided to give Lucky's a try for my birthday lunch and the whole experience was great, I'm only 20 and sometimes with high end places the staff treats younger individuals as lesser than the typical clientele, however that was not the case with Lucky's, from the host to the manager to the server everybody treated us with the utmost respect and the service was great overall. The food was even better, I ordered the steak frites with half fries and half onion strings and everything came out perfectly, the steak was cooked perfectly and was so tender. The fries and onion rings were also great, super crispy and fresh but not too oily like most onion strings, the free birthday dessert was also great and the pricing was honestly reasonable. Great experience at Luckys! We went for my husband's birthday and everything was perfect. The service was amazing, Kalyn was very attentive and pleasant! The food was excellent, everything we had was so delicious. We had shrimp cocktail, fried calamari and split a wedge salad for our starters. For the main courses, salmon and NY Steak, which was so good! Also noteworthy was the sautéed spinach and the espresso martinis. The General Manager made his rounds to ensure customers were having a good experience which we always appreciate and think is a sign of a well ran restaurant. The only concern I have for this place is the parking, it's not a big parking lot and the spaces are tight. I hope it doesn't impact their business and they stay open.
