Yes, met expectations. The beef was outstanding. They had a great mix of Giardineri and the atmosphere was friendly. I would go back there in a heartbeat but it would be nice if they actually had napkins and ketchup on the table. Been here twice the past two weeks. I'm sorry but their pizza is awful. The sauce is horrific tasting and they are pricey for crappy food. The fries are a replica of McDonald's fries except McDonald's fries are tasty and salted. This place doesn't salt their fries which sucks. I haven't lived in the city for many years, but I get back sporadically, and last saturday I was driving around in the slush looking for a hot dog and fries (I used to go to Wally's on Central and Diversey till they knocked it down a few years back), and I see Lukes! Not only Lukes but the Original Lukes. The dog was excellent, just what i was looking for, nice sport peppers, pickle slice, glow-in-the-dark relish, and a very good dog. Fries wrapped up with the hot dog, just the way it should be. the dressing on the dog was just what it should be - onions, relish, mustard,slice of tomato (anemic tomato, but its February after all), sport peppers, and the generous pickle slice. I used to work at the Lukes at Harlem and Addison when I was a kid, and I just wonder if this is owned by the same people. Not sure if Luke and Fritzie are still around (bless their souls for running what was the best beef stand in the city), but maybe their daughters own this place. I didn't see pepper and egg on the menu, nor the bowls of giardinara set out on the counter like we used to do it, but things do change after all. Next time I go back for the beef! read more

5-stars for five impeccable reasons: Star 1: Location At the heart of Belmont and Harlem, (next to a run-down White Castle), sits a well-advertised, well-lit building of which auromatic scents of delicious Chicago goodness is emulated. The location earns a star because there is not a single food stop like this near-by. Luke's in not hard to find, nor is it hard to miss; the, "Luke's" sign can be seen down Harlem any which way. Star 2: Maintenance The cleanliness, (inside and out), is superb! The new drive-thru and extended parking lot has been freshly mounted; the builings exterior is freshly painted in neon yellow, with orange trims. Once I transitioned in from the sticky humidity outside, the cold air, along with the smell of delicious, fresh homemade beef hit me. The tables were emaculate and an employee greeted me with a hospitable smile at the front counter, which leads to my next star. Star 3: Management and Staff The Staff at Luke's on Harlem are more than friendly, they are genuine. Observing them in their work place, I noticed a natural connection amongst them. They worked as a team and communicated effectively to one another, knocking off orders like Champs! I also noticed something very rare; the owner. Not often do I see the owner of a food stop like Luke's constantly working to provide better customer service for his business. He was very friendly and had no problem getting dirty to ensure the best quality for his customers. Star 4: The Hours Luke's runs later than most CTA buses! I absolutely love the hours because of my late-night cravings. There are many ways to obtain food from Luke's, one being the traditional walk-in, (which is my favorite), a phone call for delivery, or the new grub hub order, (in which orders can be made via internet). The delivery drivers are flawless and very quick. Not once have I had a complaint due to a misassembled order; they even throw in liters of pepsi and italian ices on the house! In accordance to that, time for star number five. Star 5: The Grub Even when I was a picky tot, I still adored Luke's food. Homemade beef sandwhiches topped with hot and sweet peppers, fresh, homemade italian ices with chunks of juicy watermelon or citrusy lemon, char-broiled burgers fresh off of the grill, traditional Vienna Chicago-styled hotdogs. All of it has me drooling. But amongst Luke's amazing food selection lies a goldmine; the pizza. The pizza at Luke's is by far my favorite. From the mozzarrella cheese to the pizza sauce, down to the cornmeal on the bottom of the pie, I always grab a fresh slice everytime I visit, (which is often!) Overall, Luke's on Harlem is an all-around great place to eat at in Chicago. Five well-earned stars from me. read more

This place is a great greasy spoon, and it's open late. The best thing on the menu is the italian beef. It doesn't compare to Mr. Beef's Italian Beef, but it's still up there. They've finally added a big parking lot a couple years ago, as they took it from the jewerly store that was right by it. I've been here only once and I'm done. I ordered a Maxwell-style Polish and the guy had no idea what that was. In case you're not from around here, it means a Polish with grilled onions and mustard on it. living in elmwood park as a kid and going to grade school down the street from here I got my fair share of lukes summer months riding bikes we would always come here for their strawberry shakes and pizza puffs....plus to scream out false orders in the parking lot while people were waiting at the drive thru order box of white castle which is just next door screwing up their order (id apologize to the people whos white castle orders we screwed up but we were kids and it was pretty damn funny). Luke's is a good place to have on the NW side since late night options are few and far between. The main thing I like here is their sausage pizza. I'm not really a sausage pizza guy but I wouldn't be surprised if it's homemade as its tasty and really good. I recommend extra sauce on the pizza to ensure it isn't too dry for your taste. And the appetizers from the Wing Zings to the Pizza Munchies and also the Mozzerella Sticks are pretty tasty. We ordered a pizza and when the delivery guy showed up with it he noticed the pizza was ruined, I called lukes and asked if the driver had called them yet to let them know what happened and the girl went on to say yes we can make you a new one mind you it's 8:30pm we've already waited 1hr, I said no and can I please speak to a manager, wow was I blown by Paul (manager) customer service. I asked for a refund because I didn't want to wait anymore than I needed to for a new pizza, even though it was 15-20 mins, so I said no I'd like a refund, he said no I can't that's not our policy, excuse me I don't have a pizza, so yes I'd like a refund! He said he could not give me a refund and then proceeded to laugh at me , when I asked for his name he said I was getting loud!! In no way shape or format was I being loud, and told him I was not trying to argue, all I wanted was a refund, I had to tell him that I know how cc machines work and that he could reverse my payment, (why am I telling you how to do YOUR job) I kept asking for his name and he was like your screaming which again I wasn't and I totally should have been the way he was speaking to me. He said ooh I suggested to you to reverse your payment!! I don't understand where Paul (finally gave me him name after asking more times than I needed to )gets his customer service from and I know I'm only one customer, but I was a loyal customer for 10yrs, and this means nothing to them.
