Terrible service! We've have dined here many times and enjoyed ourselves! After this last time we will not be going back. We had lipstick on our cup the waitress didn't stick around long enough to hear us. It took them an hour and half to plate our meals at our table. The food we were served was cold with frozen sausage and burnt toast. The cook mocked us the entire time, before and after receiving our food. The waitress never acknowledged the time it took for us to not get our food or even ask how our meals were. We were utterly disappointed and will not go back not even for a beer! read more

Tried their pork chop dinner. They came very thin, breaded and tasteless. I ate one because I was so hungry, but couldn't finish the rest. The rice and vegetables had no flavor either. People I was with said their food was good, but none had what I ordered. Don't bother with this choice. My wife and i came here expecting an old timey steak house. What it ended up being was a roadside diner. The side salad was the best part of an overpriced meal. The prime rib was cold and half of it was fat. The vegetables were luke warm, mushy and seasoned with something that made them inedible. The fried prawns were handmade but with too much breading and were cold oily and mushy. The baked potato came with no fixins, not even butter. I would not go back to this place for the prime rib. I can only assume that the same gross vegetables and plain potato come with all their dinners. The service was good. I think it was the cook that made this dinner unpleasant. read more

Had to try LuLus. Parking here is insane-Thank God I have a Handicap parking placard. It's adjacent to a motel and one ways etc so beware. We ate in the bar. Seat yourself. But a server greeted us right away. The music was loud and every seat was taken at the bar. It was rowdy-but in a good way! Our server took our drink order right away. Bloody Mary's are strong and good here. Then we ordered breakfast. Irish Benedict and a standard Bene. They were both delicious. Too many hash browns but that's not a bad thing right? I can always count on this place to be full of fun, lively people and mediocre service. I have to tell you though the more often you return - the more likely they are to care about you. The bigger tips you leave - naturally they love you even more! The eggs benedict where okay, to be honest it had way too much hollandaise sauce. The food was alright, but overpriced. The big deal breaker was the service. My brother and I went in for breakfast, and felt ignored the entire time. It also took us 40 minutes to get our food. Certain people who were seated after us were served before us, and when the food was finally served they didn't even apologize or anything, in face; it felt like they were avoiding us. We drove to Redding for the eclipse and checked Yelp for a place to get brunch. Usually Yelp reviews can be trusted, but not this time. We're not necessarily opposed to greasy spoon diners, but this was NOT good. Despite drowning in grease, the food (we both had scrambles) was bland and flavorless. I would complain that the portions were small, which they were, especially considering that the prices are quite high compared to chains such as Denny's, but the small portions might have mitigated the inevitable intestinal distress that followed. The service was indifferent and we were never offered refills on our beverages. Half of the utensils were dirty. Overall, it was a fairly disgusting experience. Drove in circles around downtown Redding to find this place for lunch, based on Yelp reviews. What are y'all talking about?! The bar maybe OK, but the coffee shop is definitely reflective of the peeling paint and general decay evident in the restaurant's exterior. The food wasn't bad, but could've been almost anywhere -- the service was OK, but the waitress had disappeared when it was time to pay -- the prices were reasonable, but nothing to go out of our way for. Frankly, a quick stop at McDonalds would have been just as satisfying and cheap, better maintained, and much faster, given Redding's one-way system. read more

Went to lulus to check out their breakfast. My son and I were very satisfied. I was happy to hear they hand cut and pound the chicken friend steak daily, many places just drop a frozen one in the frier. Cook made my sons pancake into a Mickey Mouse without us asking and that made his day. Prices were good. Service was super comfortable and friendly, reminded me of what I would imagine an old diner to be like. Deseray knew all her regulars and made us feel like we should be one too. Great job read more

This is a place that has always been known by most locals to be bad. I have been here several times over the span of 15 yrs and have gotten sick every time. The building is really old and not maintained properly and the food is usually old looking and tasting. Haven't been there recently, but this place never seems to change. When I would try to ask the waitress about the food, she would always act like she doesn't know what I'm talking about. Stay Away. read more

This is my favorite place to eat in Redding. I like the friendly people and all the locals who frequent often. It's a little piece of Americana in my opinion. We were in town for the annual archery Western Classic Trail Shoot tournament at Straight Arrow Bowhunters and we were looking for a good place to have breakfast. Saw some great reviews on Yelp for Lulu's and tried it. Really great breakfast and we even tried the creamed beef which was great! Darnit! I hate to leave negative reviews, especially since our first visit to Lulu's was so great. We came in a couple months ago on a Sunday night when neither of us felt like cooking cause we heard good things. It was busy for a Sunday night, and there appeared to only be one waitress and one cook in the whole place. The waitress was great, fast, friendly, funny, fiery red head gave us some of the best service we have had in Redding. She is the one who recommended we try out the bar there, she said it had a really cool and fun atmosphere. The next time we came to Lulu's on a Friday night to throw back a couple cocktails, and maybe grab an appetizer. The bartender was THE WORST. She was rude and disinterested in helping anyone but here regulars at the other end of the bar. In fact, she was sitting on a stool for a good portion of our time there, my husbands drink was empty for 15 minutes before she decided to stop talking to her friends and apologetically offer a refill.... uh, no thanks, check please. A bar regular we were chatting with told us she is just always like that, and that the Saturday/Sunday girl is much better. A couple weeks went by and we decided to give it another go on a Saturday night this time, cause it really is a neat place with good food, sat at the bar again, then from around the corner walk that same awful bartender! Noooo!! No smile or anything, just "what can i get for ya" then poured our drinks and walked back to talk with her friends, and we proceeded to be ignored and given shoddy service through 2 more rounds while she took shots with her regular patrons. We are new in town, and very possibly could have turned into regulars. It seems like such a cool place, I just don't understand why management would allow this. Being so rude is unacceptable in customer service, and I have NEVER seen a bartender sit at the bar rail on the job in all my life. Review would be one star if it weren't for the awesome first experience. We may be back to the diner someday, but we will never return to the bar. read more

If your pregnant or hungover (and if you live in Redding you're at least one of those), Lulu's is a delicious take on the American Diner. The Monte Cristo is incredible every single time. Lulu's has proven to be a solid breakfast spot in the past, if a bit pricey for what it is. Definitely better food than the Black Bear. The one thing that stood out most about my last visit was the hostile attitude from the server. She pretty much ignored us, I had to ask her for refills on coffee and water, and brought the check when we had just started eating. The restaurant wasn't even that crowded. I'm not sure what her problem was but I'm not a difficult customer. I usually tip at minimum, 20%. If I'm going to eat at a restaurant I expect at least some baseline level of service and not to be treated with rudeness and hostility by the server. read more

A fantastic greasy spoon type restaurant. Clean, "vintage" decor, and friendly. We enjoyed breakfast enough that we came back the second day as well. The bloody Mary was pretty good, and hit the spot. My screwdriver was good as well (didn't care for their oj, but the pour is strong enough to make up for it). The biscuits and gravy were damn good. The hash browns were perfectly cooked and fresh. PERFECT bacon, just like I like it. Coffee is fresh and good. The second day we were just a tad off pace to make it to our meeting on time and called ahead to order. Our order was ready in less than 5 minutes of our arrival (they may not appreciate me sharing that, but super handy to know if you're in a bit of a rush and still want a hardy breakfast -and Bloody Mary!). The servers were all very friendly and attentive. They knew the locals (and even a few hotels guests from next door) by name. read more

Yes, the sign outside is old and crappy, but everything inside is great! All the benches and stools look like they just got new vinyl. Artwork from local artists is on the walls, for sale. Clean dining room. Tabletop condiment set clean, had all the extras there for me. Waitress was prompt and friendly. I was offered coffee while I was taking a seat. That's good service. It's classic Diner food, and it's very good. Eggs and hash browns done expertly, with care, turned out just the way they are supposed to. Toast made with special bread. I eat at a lot of greasy-spoon diner places in my quest for good breakfast food. I can confidently recommend this as a very good diner. read more

So we went to Lulu's to check out their prime rib. We went to sit in the lounge and waited for someone to seat us. Ten minutes later after a search for a wait person we went into the coffee shop area and sat down. No one cane to help us and the lights were way too bright for our comfort so we went back into the lounge and after another 5 minutes we acquired a seat. The lighting was better, but the noise level was roaring to belligerent. Okay, so we decide to stay and continue our task of prime rib scrutiny. Long story short, the large cut came to me which was 50% fat and I complained. My wife's smaller cut was nice but rare instead of medium. To their credit they brought me a new piece of meat which was okay, let me keep the fatty cut and they reheated my wife's cut. Irregardless, the flavor was minimal. Bottom line, don't sit in the lounge on a weekend unless you have ear plugs, don't expect fast service and do yourself a favor and just go to the French Gulch Hotel for prime rib which is the best in Northern California. read more

My husband and I love to meet with friends on Sundays for Joe Scrabbles and Jame's fabulous ( not as good as mine...teehee) Bloody's. But if you don't have the pleasure of having Tim, Ann or Kristy as your sever your experience won't as much fun......they make you feel like family. LuLu's looks like you may not want to trust it , but the food speaks for itself. i was very intrigued by the lounge, but I had french toast on the brain. kooky art on the walls, interesting clientele, a fun atmosphere, no nonsense- friendly service....I highly endorse Lulu's. WOW! Where else can you get a Prime Rib sandwich that is a full cut of Prime Rib just like is served as a dinner? It is to die for and I highly recommend it to any carnivore to try and enjoy. The atmosphere-decor could be updated but has nothing to do with the food they serve. I have had numerous menu items and have yet to find fault with anything, it's that good.
