We ordered several dishes from Lulu's Kitchen for takeout this evening. Overall, we were extremely disappointed with the quality and taste of every dish, and the prices. The meat was chewy and tasted off, the potstickers were soggy and moist, and the noodles were incredibly salty. We were looking forward to lots of leftovers, but sadly we won't be saving any of this food. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant - we will not be ordering from Lulu's again. read more

Came to Lulu's on New Years Day. Pleasantly surprised at the clean and modern decor when I came in as the restaurant is located in an older strip mall. The food was fantastic, we got the cold noodles, cold chicken (super good/no bones with refreshing cucumber at he bottom), xiao long bao (soup dumpling), sen jian bao (meat bun?), and ja jian mien (excellent chew and sauce!). I've come here several times, and while there are a few misses, there are also some really great selections here. Most of the food is authentic, but I can't quite say that it distinctly reminds me of my days back in China. I did, however, really love the sticky rice with steamed ribs. The portion size was perfect, and the ratio between meat and rice wasn't overwhelming. The soup dumplings were a little dry and firm but nonetheless, tasty. The steamed fish with tofu was beautifully done; there was the distinct flavor of asian spices, and the fish was cooked perfectly. The intestines too are what you would expect from an asian restaurant but nothing special. I recognize that the workers in most asian restaurants aren't as attentive as those in western society, but it's something I've come to accept. It was a little annoying, however, to have to ask for water three times before it came. The place also appears to be too small considering the amount of people that come. Still, my family gobbled down all the food that we ordered in one sitting, which is extremely rare for us, so we will be back. read more

Underrated! This little restaurant hiding under the freeway is home to some delicious and creative Chinese dishes. The style is Szechuan so it is more on the spicy side, but Mild people can handle it. We had the vegetable soup, the eggplant w/ spicy and garlic sauce, saliva chicken***, sticky rice, and the beef rolls. Very good. I was not disappointed at all. I say it is underrated because there were still empty tables when there should be a full house. I am Chinese and I am impressed by how much favor is put into the dishes. Thank you, Lulu's Kitchen. Fried spicy chicken basically just fried chicken wing add some spicy pepper for decor the dish. It is not spicy at all.... if you like spicy food do not order this dish however the worst part is I found some RAW undercook chicken wings. Shanghai noodle are using the wrong noodle, it should use thick noodle not thin. Third dish we order stir fry potato, I don't like the taste it have some sour taste. Amazing Chinese food! Definitely the best in the Tri-Valley area. Must try: * Steamed Pork Ribs in Sweet Rice - this is basically sticky rice with fall off the bone pork ribs and some sweet squash. It's our favorite dish from Lulu's and we always order it. :) * Dan dan mian - slightly spicy peanut sauce noodles. I wish it came with a little more meat but the sauce is worth it! * Beef pancake roll - onion pancake w/ beef, hoisin sauce, cucumber, and cilantro. Comes in 4 sections so it's perfect to share. We've also tried the XLB, sesame cake (personally meh), and a variety of tofu and veggie dishes. The fried tofu was also pretty good but you can get something similar at a bunch of other restaurants. If you pay a visit to Lulu's definitely give the three dishes I listed above a try! I've only been here for dinner but am curious to see what lunch is like. read more

The food here is amazing, I love their mapo tofu; there was another place that claims to be szechuan and looks extremely fancy but their food can't even compare and they didn't put in the pepper corn like this one. We ordered mapo tofu, dan dan noodles, and kungpao chicken(my friend wanted something she's familiar with). I have to say everything was amazing, their kungpao tasted different from what I'm usually use to, but in a good way. The only thing that sucks about this place is, they don't open monday. I've been here for lunch a few times and it is pretty good. You get decently fast service (even when I came in my group of 11). And the food is very good, not overly saucey. I typically will get an order of the green beans or any type of stir fried vegetables. I always ask them to be a little extra spicy. Most of my large party also love their food. My only complaint is that there is not very many vegetarian options on the lunch menu and they brought our food out very staggered, to the point that the last person received their food after the first person had already finished their meal. read more

First time to eat here at Lulu's. Tried to order their beef stew, sizzling squid and prawns with walnut. The taste are okay but I cannot recommend them. We still have a lot of leftovers and it was not eaten at all. The squid & the prawns smells like there's more vinegar in them. Also in their menu, they don't lists all the ingredients specially the sizzling squid. There's black beans & this stalk not celery that we cannot identify -- it taste like mushroom with a crunch. First time here and I ordered the braised pork shank, sesame chicken, and Shanghai style dumplings. I thought it was just Sichuan cuisine, but I was pleasantly surprised when the lady owner (I think) said they serve both. I thought the pork could've been a little more tender, but the flavor was very good. It reminds me of a dish we used to eat as kids in the Philippines, "pata Tim." For you Filipinos, it's like pata tim. Order it and you won't be disappointed, but perhaps tell them to braise it a little longer. The sesame chicken was delicious, but a tad chewy and hard. I came close to five thirty on a Saturday night, but I could tell it was going to get busy. I'll be back with my sister next time, so she can enjoy the pork shank, too. read more

First off, we got the hot and sour soup ... they might as well have called it soy sauce soup. It was so ridiculously salty. For our entrees, we ordered a xiao long bao ... legit barely any soup inside. The braised pork was decent, except the fact that it was 90% potatoes, 10% meat ... I definently think it was intentional of them to use potatoes as on first glance it looks similar to the meat. Out of the whole meal, the fried pork buns was the best part. Coming from the 626 area(San Gabriel Valley, Arcadia, etc.), the food at Lulu's Kitchen was a big miss for me! The food was a bit bland and not memorable. It didn't have the typical tastes that I usually associate with Szechuan/Chinese food. However, they do have excellent service compared to other Chinese restaurants. The servers were very attentive and always made sure to refill my water (much props!). They were very sweet! The restaurant is also very clean as well (something that you don't always see in Chinese restaurants). read more

Maybe this was not their day but our experience with this place was pretty bad. We spent a 100 for 6 meals and soup. The only thing that tasted correctly was the hot and sour soup. The orange chicken tasted like buffalo sauce. The mango Kian beef tasted of chemicals or chalk. Like someone touched it with a glove they use for cleaning. The eggplant tasted of vinegar and the friend rice was pretty bad too. We were excited about this place but will never go back as the food did not taste correct. Wonderful. I'm not a big fan of Chinese food. Most Chinese restaurants pour lots of grease in their dishes making the food less than tasty. But the food at Lulu's is fresh and delicious. They make each dish taste both authentic and clean. This is the best tasting Chinese restaurant in the East Bay. Prices are reasonable. The ambience is basic. No frills in the decor. A Covid Friday night dinner plans had us try Lulus in dublin. I would give Lulu's at an average of 3-1/2 stars. I ordered pan fried pork buns, Szechuan style braised pork, sweet-and-sour spareribs, walnut shrimp, eggplant with spicy garlic sauce, and sautéed green beans. Prices per entree dish are on the high side and you see that for the taste and quantity it's overpriced IMO. Four star items were the pan fried pork buns, Szechuan style braised pork, and sizzling garlic eggplant with spicy sauce. Three stars goes to the sweet-and-sour spareribs. Flavor was good and not too sweet but it just had too many excess scrappy empty bones in addition with ribbed meat. It would have been a finer dish head day filtered out the excess shards of bones in the dish. And the one star item ($18.95) to the walnut shrimp. For this price, you better show your A-game. Eh... no. What disappointment. The batter was worse than any Panda Express dish on a bad day, and had horrible mouth texture. The batter to shrimp ratio was 5:1, so you're not getting any shrimp. The glazed walnuts were plastic-like. This dish needs major rehab or take it off the menu. It tarnished the rest of our meal. At some point I would consider giving LuLu a second try after taking a break. read more

With the surge in more diverse restaurants appearing in the Tri-Valley area, I was not surprised to find Lulu's Kitchen! What's more unique is how hard it is to find good Szechuan restaurants in the Bay Area! We ordered: - Barley milk tea which was large enough for 2 people to share... the flavor and texture were great! I would opt to ask for less sugar, it was a bit sweet. - Beef noodle soup was really flavorful! Meat was nice and tender and the broth wasn't too spicy! I'm sure you can ask for it to be extra spicy... but I'm a spice noob! - Braised pork (but got braised beef stew, I think- the beef was good but it wasn't the flavor we were searching for as it tasted exactly like the beef in our noodle soup): seemed a bit rushed... it was good but it was just poor compared to the beef dish which had some veggies, peppers, potatoes, and etc... I was hoping that we ordered the sweet braised pork like many Chinese places make. - Xiao Long Bao... The flavors were really good but..... most of the flavors from the soup part of the dumpling fell out! We received our order with holes all over it was so sad :( Why don't restaurants use cabbage to steam anymore? It's so cheap!!! Overall, I am a happy returning customer of Lulu's kitchen. I did have some bad days where we were being rushed... (but cmon, we came 1.5 hours before closing!) Maybe it was because the lunch rush all left and it was just two girls there? After a temporary closure, Lulu's Kitchen is back open for take out (and maybe delivery, but I don't use delivery services). Tragically, I am not able to eat spicy food anymore (probably a side-effect of radiation therapy 30 years ago), but fortunately, my family is not so afflicted. They feel that Lulu's has the BEST mapo tofu in the East Bay; their Boiled Spicy Fish Filet is also extremely good. We also usually get the Pan Fried String Beans, which are good but not best-in-class. For non-spicy dishes, I really like Tea Smoked Duck and the Steamed Pork Ribs with Sweet (sticky) Rice. For lunch, my favorite is the Shepherd's Purse Rice Cake (also non-spicy). There is a private parking lot shared with several other businesses that can get full when everyone is open, but it's pretty empty these days. This is definitely our "go to" Szechuan restaurant in the Tri-Valley area. Highly recommended. read more

One of our go-tos for work lunches for years, a huge amount of great food for a great price. I'm partial to their malatang, my coworker can and does eat an entire tray of their steamed egg in a sitting. Baked rice with salted pork and veggies, griddle cooked EVERYTHING is great, we've loved everything we've ordered. Lots of repeat business!
