My very first impression of this place (even though I had been wanting to try it) was not so great. I arrived 10 to 3:00PM and was turned away. That is enough time for me to get just one little dish. This is when they close for lunch, I think? The second time I tried, I was getting here late after work. It was almost closing time. I asked if I could still order to go and the waiter obliged. Really appreciated that because I really had been wanting to try this place. The restaurant is small and clean. The menu is massive and messy. It isn't dirty or anything, just so many items. It's intimidating. My go to dish is ma po tofu. Szechuan style has a mouth numbing effect. I don't know why I would even enjoy that but I do. The one made here is quite good. I love that you can actually taste the black bean flavor but isn't extremely salty like a lot of restaurants. I didn't get rolled eyes or the feeling of annoyance when I asked to have it without meat. It was quite a large serving which is awesome. The prices here aren't cheap so I still felt like I got my money's worth. The customer service, at least at night is very good. The host/waiter was very courteous and updated me on when my food would be ready. Although I would have loves a tea while waiting but maybe this isn't the type of place that does that. Getting here is a little annoying because people in Dublin don't seem to know how to drive. The parking lot isn't the biggest but I haven't had an issue finding a spot. We love this restaurant. Their authentic Chinese food taste almost the same as what I got in my hometown Shanghai, China. The servants know us as a family because we always go there. My 2-year-old daughter just loves their shrimp dish, fish soup and the potato dish. And recently they started providing a chicken dish which is common and very famous in my hometown. This place is actually super good. I absolutely love their beef in spicy oil sauce. Idk what thats called but its a perfect dish that has a great Mala flavor and a ton of veggies and meat. Beef is a little chewy but that is okay because it tastes so good. Their tofu with pork shreds is also pretty good and I love how they give me extra garlic. Love the new decor and menu (big a.. pictures!), service was great (2pm, not busy). 3 DELIGHT NOODLE SOUP (bit of seafood and rice noodles in chicken? broth) - shared this BIG bowl for under $10, savory and flavorful, but had a fly in it (we ate it anyways, we're not picky). On the salty side. This was the best thing we got, relatively. XIAO LONG BAO (takes 15 minutes to cook) were a bit doughy and dry (so I dipped it in my soup, yum). Not the best I've ever had, but the filling was tasty! The soy sauce that came with it was bland, but bitter? so I didn't use it. ROAST DUCK (takes 15-20 minutes) was honestly a waste of a duck... dry, tough, too salty :'( this made us sad because my bf loves loves loves duck. My girlfriend and I were frequent visitors at the restaurant that had been here prior to Lulu's, Yuyu's Restaurant, so decided to check out the new restaurant on the block that had replaced it -- This was about a month ago. In the 30 days, I've seriously been here 10-12 times with my girlfriend for their dinner, lunch specials, and takeout. I've been to a LOT of Chinese restaurants in the East Bay, and I can safely say that this is one of the best (if not THE best) Chinese restaurants around. I'd give it 5 stars, but some of the dishes are a little pricey compared to other authentic Chinese restaurants. Most dishes are in the $11-15 dollar prices range. I'd HIGHLY recommend coming here for the lunch specials. You'll get the most for your money: Rice + Entree + Soup for less than $12, which I'd say is a pretty good value. read more

Cons: The beef stew noodle soup had a decent flavor - not bad and not great. Passable broth and meat. But the real star of the show was the noodles, which looked, felt and tasted suspiciously like instant ramen noodles. I tried to convince myself that it wasn't; surely an established restaurant wouldn't serve noodles from a fifteen cent package. But I really think they did. What's up with that? My first impression was the flavors are spot on. I had some spicy pork number with sauteed peppers. Delicious. The pork was a little fatty, and that usually turns me off but this wasn't bad texture wise. I would love to try their soups and fried rices, as I think they have an amazing flavor profile. I also had the pot stickers. The pork and cabbage filling was flavorful but the pot sticker was a little bready for my taste. Again, flavors are great just slightly off on texture. Service was fast and pleasant, and the place is clean and actually rather slick inside considering it looks like a hole in the wall. It is a little pricey, more in line with what I expect in Oakland or SF, except in Chinatown where they don't charge you and arm and a leg. Also... the house red wine... is refrigerated? That was odd. I know this sounds like 3 stars but the place truly had delicious and unique food. Would love to try the frog. I went to Lulu's Kitchen for the first time to try their lunch specials. I ordered the Mongolian Beef and it was ok, but it only came with soup and no rice. I paid $2 for brown rice which I thought was too much money. I'm ok with paying a $1 up charge for brown versus white rice, but I think that rice should be included with entrees at a Chinese restaurant. I'll return to the China Village Restaurant in Dublin which has better food that is reasonably priced and includes soup, rice, and fried wontons with the meal. read more

Been here twice, the food is excellent, very authentic Szechuan dishes. But be forewarned, most of the dishes are spicy and some will literally numb you entire mouth. Szechuan done right! I love the spicy level of everything (friends and I had dined in family style). The pork ears and feet are amazing and the spice level is just right. Do not be intimidated by the type of cooking (Szechuan) the use peppers, they will cook dishes to your spicyness level so no worries there :) The ambiance is great, it also can get a bit crowded but it's still worth to dine in. The food here is quite good, but the poor quality of customer service/communication is what brings my rating down to 3 stars. I came here once before and during that encounter their servers failed to mention that one of our orders was not available so they never served anything and left us waiting. After asking, they finally told us what happened and as frustrated but hungry customers we had to order another dish and wait another 20 or so minutes. I came back today with my family because even though the service was lacking, the food was tasty and we thought it deserved a second chance. Once again, our dinner was ruined by a lack of communication from the servers. After waiting 20 minutes without even getting our appetizer that we ordered, we asked for the status of our meal. A frantic woman came in asking if we even ordered, and if that wasn't bad enough we heard her whisper "forgot" in Chinese (which is one of the few words I do know), and then rush off without even apologizing. Despite the multiple bad experiences I've had with their staff, I'd still say that the food is pretty tasty and worth a try. We ordered cold steamed chicken chili sauce, sautéed pork tripe spicy sauce, szechuan spicy fried chicken, and fish fillet dual flavor, all of which were great except for the pork tripe (very bland and it was really hard to chew)! Overall, I am not expecting to come back anytime soon due to the service, but maybe if the servers learn to communicate better if there are any problems with meals or just give a simple apology, I'd be inclined to give a higher review. read more
