A hidden gem in Dublin! I was craving some authentic Chinese food and it was definitely satisfied here. The inside has nice decor, so don't be scared away by the appearance on the outside! I mostly came to try the zha jiang main. On the menu, it says noodles with brown sauce. It was really good and a big portion! I tried the non-spicy one and there was enough flavor, needed a little more sauce though! I also tried the dan dan mian - spicy, and it wasn't too spicy. There was also peanut sauce and meat on top, which mixed really well! The cold steamed chicken with chili sauce (spicy) was delicious! The chicken was tender and it even though it says cold, it was more like room temperature. The xiao long bao and pan fried pork buns were good, not a lot of soup in either, but still flavorful! The wonton soup with chili oil was yummy, it also has some peanut sauce in it, which made it less spicy! The place is smaller with two larger tables in the middle for bigger groups and a bunch of smaller tables around the edges. The food was alright. I found it a little pricey for the quality. Plus they charge $2 per bowl for rice. We paid $14 for rice! Had somewhat of a strong cleaning fluid/bleach smell when walking in as well. read more

We ordered take out for the first time from Lulu's Kitchen. Nothing fancy, just a combination chow mein and sweet and sour soup for 2. The price was good, around $25. I really enjoyed their spin on hot and sour soup. Lulu's sweet and sour soup is not as thick( viscous) as a hot and sour soup. It's definitely more soupy but still has the same crunchy and slightly spicy texture. Both dishes were enough for dinner and a lunch for both of us. Their portions are great. Chow mein was especially tasty. The appearance of it as if it just came off a wok. Golden brown and full of chicken, beef and shrimp. 75% authentic Chinese food in Livermore. We came for dinner on Friday and it was more than half full. We came for the spicy food and left satisfied. If you don't know already, Chinese love internal organs. We tried pork liver in a special spicy sauce (3 stars, the liver was cut pretty thick, there were also mushroom, cucumber in the mix), spicy chicken with black bean side that came in a basket, and my favorite, the dry-pot lotus root (great flavor, nice crunch). This is an update. We went here last weekend. It didn't seem very crowded this time around. Same great tea, good customer service (pretty incredible for an Asian restaurant, right?!), pickled cabbage appetizer. We tried some new dishes. Some hits, some misses. DH really wanted the Tea Smoked Duck and we got half a duck at just under $20. This dish was quite a surprise. The duck truly was "smoked", with a dense, salty texture and taste that reminded us of ham shanks! The skin is not crispy. Neither one of us had ever experienced duck like this before. We enjoyed it, but we didn't like it as much as our familiar Chinese roast duck. This stuff is potent. I'd advise ordering plain rice or neutral noodle dish to eat with it. The Xiao Long Bao were really super awesome! Dare I say, comparable to Din Tai Fung's. They must have stepped up their game. The wrapper was super thin. DH broke one. It's best to wait a minute for them to firm up before moving them. The inside had a rich, fatty broth. Mmmmm...pork. The other new dish we tried was the Yang Chow fried rice. It was okay and had a ton of "stuff" in it, relative to the rice. Peas, ham (spam?) bits, scrambled eggs. The bok choy and mushroom dish was a little salty, but just as good as we remembered. We had lots of leftovers. This place isn't cheap, but their ingredients are higher in quality. You really do get what you pay for. read more

More and more good restaurants are opening in Tri-valley, Lulu's spicy fish pot is quite comparable to the signature dish in China Lounge, but half the price. The fish fillet is not as smooth and delicate in texture, but thickness is a lot better, and even more given than China Lounge. I didn't particularly like the preserved pork fried rice, glad that at least they can separate the fat, however it is another dish with big portions. read more

I would have given this place 5 stars in the past but the quality of the food has since gone down pretty significantly. In general the flavor is still good, but some things have gotten bad. For examples: the spicy beef stew noodle soup used to be great with thick egg noodles and very tasty broth, but it is now very bland and the noodles are thin and low quality. Another thing that went bad is the twice cooked pork; they now serve it with a much higher ratio of cabbage to the pork meat. Not only the quality of food has gone down, they also increased the price of every food by $2, bringing the average price per dish to now around $15. And price isn't a big deal if it means you get quality food. But honestly, I found a strand of hair in one of my dishes today. That was super disappointing. read more

This place is wonderful. I am so glad we came here today for our Friday night family dinner. We got the XiaoLongBao, which was our toddlers' all time favorite. It was one of the dishes that we know we would not have a hard time. Since the self-feed with XLB. The XLB were tasty. It had the flavorful juice that oozes out of the bun. But you have to eat them fast because the juice dries up, because the juice partly evaporates and is partly absorbed by the XLB skin. We also had their cumin and lamb. It was a delight. It was full of flavour minus the strong lamb smell. This place is a must visit. It's great food, superior service, and great value for the price and serving. read more

My husband and I (both with European descent aka, white) went last week to try this restaurant for lunch, glad it survived Covid lockdowns. We were seated and given menus. My husband noted the prices seem high at $20+ for most items. Then I noticed an Asian man seated after us was also given a paper menu and a menu like ours and then an Asian couple already seated were given the same two menus. I got up to ask another worker there if they have a lunch menu and she said, yes. I said we were not given lunch menus and walked out. It seems they only have fair lunch prices for Asians. YES! Finally found some good Szechuan food in the Dublin / Pleasanton area. This restaurant is a really cute (pretty small) place located in the same plaza as iTea. There are a lot of places to eat here so parking can be pretty difficult / packed. I walked in and it instantly felt like I was in a more authentic Chinese restaurant. They have the large circle tables for big parties to sit at and you can instantly smell the flavors when you walk in. Szechuan food is known for being spicy, so don't be alarmed when a lot of the foods have the spicy icon next to them. The menu is pretty big and the dishes we got were enough to feed three of us and we had leftovers for the next day. I would highly recommend the string beans! They had so much flavor and they weren't that spicy (this is coming from a person who can't handle spice at all haha). My roommates and I knew we'd come back once we tasted their food. The prices were pretty reasonable and the wait staff is super quick. Just a note : Since it isn't just a fast food Chinese place, they serve you tea when you sit down. Had hot spicy soup and spicy tripe for take out. Found the tripe was not the stomach but a cut that was solid like ear. Found the meat tough and has too many chilis and jalapeños for my taste and I like hot food. But I like the idea that this place makes unusual dishes like pig feet, tripe with blood and kidneys. Our hot spicy soup was good but it was mostly broth and I thought it could use more meat. Here are some of my favorites: * hot & sour soup - it has the right amount of sour & spiciness. Normally, this soup at other places aren't spicy at all, but at Lulu's, you can def taste the spiciness. It's the type of spicy that creeps up on you! A small size can probably be shared with 4 people! * hot & sour shredded potato - love love love this dish!! The potato are still crunchy even though they've been cooked, it's not overly oily either like other shredded potato that I've had. * hot & sour chicken gizzard - get this if you like chicken gizzards! It's pretty spicy but the sourness from the beans makes this dish very well balanced! * vermicelli with minced pork - this is cooked with some ma la oil/sauce! So happy to finally have a decently priced delicious Sichuan food in dublin!! My friends and i came in at 645 pm on a weekday and shortly after we arrived, the restaurant filled up. They only have about 20 tables so come early if you can. We ordered the dan dan mian, Sichuan style spicy chicken, garlic pork belly, shui dzui yui, and two lamb skewers. The lamb skewers were 3.50 each and came out first. These were super delicious, the meat was super tender and yummy and not too salty at all. It was also a pretty good size for the price. The shui dzui yui here is not very spicy, but the soup itself has alot of flavor. It also has alot of the ma la numbing peppercorns so after eating this my mouth was pretty numb. The dan dan mian here is SO GOOD. It had SO much flavor, probably the most amazing dan dan mian I have ever had. The garlic pork belly here was pretty lightly flavored, and not as salty as a restaurant I have had it at before. I followed George F's review to the soft opening of Lulu's Kitchen for lunch - and it turned out to be great! Its a tiny place like the previous restaurant it took over, but had a pretty sizable menu. Many spicy, Szechuan-style dishes with all sorts of proteins and organ meats. Near the back of the menu, they had dim sum (some spicy variants), noodle soups (also spicy) and desserts and drinks. Not everything we wanted was available (XLB, Sour Plum Iced Tea), but what we did order was pretty good. 4 stars overall - we will try to come back for dinner. Our lunch consisted of: Barley Milk Tea - Wow, very sweet and milky! Almost like a Horchata (Mexican rice drink), but better. This was perfect for a hot day and great balancer of spicy food. 5 stars! Beef Noodle Soup - Noodles soft, beef mostly tender, and that broth was spicy and in a good way. I could taste some tea tree mushrooms in the broth, which is very bold in flavor. Your lips and tongue will have a minor numbing sensation. 4 stars. Won Tons in Chili Oil - I like the smooth skins and the pork filling. You get a small doses of sesame oil and then bam! The spicy chili oil takes effect. 5 stars. Pot Stickers - These were not spicy, but came really hot and crispy. Vinegar dipping sauce was great. Turns out the filling is very juicy, so juicy when my wife bit in, there was a stream of pork broth that went flying toward me. It missed, but these pot stickers are a hit! 4 stars. Sesame Cakes - I expected these to be dessert-like, but it turned out to be like green onion pancakes, only a lot puffier and with less oil. The outer layer was crispy and loaded with sesame seeds, while the interior was pillowy with layers of soft dough and green onion. Not bad - perhaps a good breakfast item. 3 stars. read more

On June 24, we only ordered two dishes, sweet and sour pork rib and eggplant with green beans. This was one of those rare moments when Yelp lead me wrong. Was in the neighborhood and looking for a place during dinner time. Came across Lulu with excellent reviews saying authentic Szechuan restaurant. So my spicy-loving nature had to give the place a try. Ordered: Szechuan Style Braised Pork 巴蜀红烧肉 (spice level 2 indicated on the menu) Sauteed Pork Tripe with spicy sauce 辣炒脆肚 (spice level 3 indicated on the menu) Eggplant with spicy garlic sauce 鱼香茄子 (spice level 2 indicated on the menu) The restaurant was very busy so food took a while to arrive. I noticed some tables had a small plate of kimchi and our table didn't, so I asked the server for some, and he brought a plate out. What I assumed was kimchi, (because it was cabbage in some red sauce and I overheard another table asking for kimchi) actually tasted nothing like kimchi. The cabbage had a slightly fermented sour taste and was marinated in tomato sauce and sugar. My mind kept telling assuming it was kimchi and was shocked when it tasted both sweet and sour at the same time. Some people might enjoy it, but not me. When the food arrived, nothing was as described! The eggplant with spicy garlic sauce was NOT spicy at all, and instead of tasting like garlic, it tasted like sweet and sour sauce, the kind you get if you ordered orange chicken. The Szechuan Style braised pork came on a burning stove, and the only close resemblance to "Szechuan style" was the green jalapenos. The pork itself is just soy sauce braised pork, and was clearly pre-cooked because it was just luke-warm when served. If you are calling it "Szechuan style", the least you can do is have some garlic, peppercorn, or red chili in the dish. The sauteed pork tripe with spicy sauce had no sauce, and even though it was a spicy level 3 on the menu, the pork tripe was not that spicy at all. The only spiciness came from the jalapenos, which I guess because it was fresh, was actually spicier than the pickled red chili in the dish. But hey, at least this dish had some red chili. All in all, everything tasted OK, but I wouldn't call this place authentic Szechuan restaurant. To me, Szechuan cuisine not only has to be spicy (by using red chili or chili paste) but also flavorful with peppercorn and garlic and other combination of spices. None of the three dishes I ordered achieved that effect. Spice level 2 was so mild and spice level 3 was only spicy because of the jalapeno does not make it authentic Szechuan. Perhaps the popular griddle cooked dishes, or the Chongqing spicy dish would taste more Szechuan, but there are so many better and more authentic Szechuan restaurants out there, I won't be returning for another try. read more
