To end the night before we headed off to dinner, we stopped by The Semi- Tropic bar for drinks. The parking situation was difficult to say the least-- there is no street parking or parking lot. And the neighborhood behind the bar is filled with park cars. We were lucky and parked at a parking lot that was for the surrounding business (so sorry to the pizza/ weed shop!). We arrived at around 6:30 PM so it wasn't too busy. We were greeted by one of the servers and she gave us options to either sit at a lounge table area or hightop tables. We opted for the hightop tables because we knew we weren't staying there for long. The server was friendly and patient as we looked over the menu for drinks. I've been sober for about a year so I only had water, my boyfriend ordered a Naoshima Dream, his cousin ordered a Mango Cart, and his cousin's girlfriend ordered a Lemon Drop Martini. The bar was super cute and hipster! I honestly would have loved going to this bar back when I used to drink. It's dimly lit, had a vintage 20's speakeasy feel to it and the music was a vibe. I'd recommend coming here for a little date with your partner or even coming with a group of friends. My boyfriend had been here once before and he said the food was really good and affordable. He had a panini and said for bar food it was a 10/10. We waited maybe like 10 minutes for our drinks to come, we were having such a fun time chatting and enjoying the environment that it didn't feel long at all. My boyfriend, his cousin, and his cousin's girlfriend really enjoyed their drinks. They said the drinks tasted "light" insinuating that there was barely any alcohol in it. Don't let the taste fool you, after finishing half of their drink there were full of smiles, giggles, and had a great buzz going. The prices here were all pretty fair for the cost and quality of the drinks. Would defintely recommend coming here for drinks and dinner for a date night or a night out with friends!

This place has been on my list for a while, and I finally got a chance to visit…read more At first glance, you can't really tell they serve food. It looks like a typical trendy coffee shop, which I'm not mad about, but I feel like you'd only know to come here for lunch if someone told you about it beforehand. I ordered the turkey avocado sandwich. Pro tip: the lunch menu starts at 10:30 a.m. The sandwich didn't look like much at first, but one bite in and I was sold. It has all the basics you'd want in a turkey avocado sandwich, but what really stood out were the generous portions. They definitely don't skimp on the ingredients. The real star, though, was the aged balsamic glaze. Whatever magical concoction they're using, it adds the perfect amount of sweetness and ties everything together. I know some people don't like sweet elements in their sandwiches, but that's their loss and more for me. It was absolutely delicious. The space itself has plenty of seating and is great whether you're looking to get some work done, catch up with a friend, or just enjoy your meal and coffee. My only heads-up is parking. It was a bit of a struggle. I had to circle the block a few times because most of the available spots were 15-minute parking, and the street is busy enough that turning around isn't always easy. Overall, this is definitely a spot I'll be bringing friends to for a casual lunch date. The sandwich alone is worth the visit.

She raved about them having so many wonderful options so I was very curious to try. DRINK There were so many great options I was overwhelmed, but luckily their workers were so happy to help in my selection. I chatted with Bree about my fitness goals and how I was toning/ cutting weight and she made some suggestions. When I asked her what her favorite was she said she liked the Sensual Vibes smoothie. I like the sound of it from the ingredients, and she suggested adding ginger. It was SOOOOOOOO delicious. I will DEFINITELY be going back to try out another smoothie. SERVICE Bree was so very helpful. I told her my goals and that I'd just done a workout and she gave me her recommendations...she also told me her favorite a suggest I add ginger to what I was thinking about. AMBIANCE It was a chill environment but also family friendly. There were some people there with their kids enjoying the place. Also this place is dog friendly. Everyone is always so friendly here. They always seem to be upgrading the interior as well, and it's small but they do have some window seating along with a few outdoor tables. On this visit, I got the OG Avocado Toast. The avocado was perfectly ripe and fresh, and a heaping portion was served over their toasted olive bread. It's a pretty simple preparation. I probably would have preferred the Mediterranean version, as the tomatoes on this weren't my fave and there was raw red onion mixed into the avo so I wasn't able to pick it out. Next time, I'll have to request it without the onion. I'll definitely be back to try more of their menu items.

The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside while staying moist and tender inside. Even the rice and salad that came with the bowl were flavorful and clearly made with care. My boyfriend ordered the pastrami burrito, which he loved, along with a vanilla cold brew. Both were gone in no time. Great food, great flavors, and plenty of menu items I'd come back to try. We'll definitely be back.

We arrived midday on a Sunday and we're promptly sat, having been given the option for patio or indoor. We chose the patio, and between the clematis, lantana, and olive trees it is a very lovely setting in which to enjoy a meal. We were promptly brought a bottle of cold water and glasses, and our beverage orders were taken. I had a honey lavender latte with oat milk, and my husband had Lebanese coffee (no milk no sugar.) my latte was fragrant, the perfect temperature, and just the right amount of sweet. The Lebanese coffee was smooth, floral without being perfume, and excellent. We started with the falafel and the batata harra. Both absolutely excellent. For our entrees we selected the shakshuka and the Lebanese egg pie. Both were also excellent. Everything was well cooked, well presented, flavorful without being overwhelmed by any component. We took home a baklava tart, because we simply did not have the ability to eat more at the table. It was tender, moist, not too sweet, the pistachio flavor coming through as nutty and grassy, seriously so good! And it's worth noting, this whole restaurant is gluten free. I would not have realised if I had not known ahead of time. The texture of the pita with the shakshuka was exactly what one would expect, as was the bread of the egg pie. The pastry of the tart was flakey and delicious. And having said all of that, the service is what puts it above and beyond. Everyone was warm and pleasant, and seemed to genuinely appreciate the compliments. Staff seemed like they liked their jobs, which for me is always a good sign.

It had that rare neighborhood-restaurant vibe where you're made to feel comfortable, never rushed, and like they're actually happy you're there. The patio is another reason to come back. It's cozy, charming, and tucked away enough to feel like a little escape from Sunset. Perfect for a slow brunch and a couple of good coffees without feeling like you're sitting on the sidewalk. Everything we ordered was outstanding. The Lebanese egg pie was packed with flavor. The shakshuka was rich, bright, and perfectly balanced, and the falafel was some of the best I've had. We had a Lebanese coffee and a honey lavender latte, and both were excellent. The coffee had that deep, traditional richness, while the latte was floral without crossing into overly sweet territory. One thing that's genuinely impressive is that the entire restaurant and bakery is dedicated gluten-free. We don't eat gluten-free ourselves, and if nobody had mentioned it, I never would have guessed. Nothing felt like a compromise, everything was just delicious. It's also pretty cool that people with celiac disease or gluten sensitivities have a place where they can order anything on the menu without having to think twice, while everyone else still gets an exceptional meal. That's a win for everyone.
