Having recently moved to Virginia for an extended period of time it is so great to find places that remind me of south Florida night life. Lunasea is fun party venue. Went for Santacon 2017 and had an amazing time. The bouncers are nice and the bar tenders are lots of fun. Go see Connor behind the bar, he's entertaining and memorable. Watched a great band last night and the management cut them short for no reason. Absolutely disgusted at how they were treated. Management obviously has some issues there as they are always short staffed and closed the kitchen early because of people quitting. Now they can add that they treat the bands badly to their list of problems. We wont be returning. read more

So look through the bad reviews before going here. You will see a theme, and that theme is: decent upfront service but extremely overpriced everything and over charging your bank account/ stealing money from you. So my wife and I went here after a nice dinner at soya sushi ( absolutely wonderful and I suggest going there as it's much much cheaper and better vibes, better food and better drinks, just no outdoor section), Because my wife just moved back to the area with me and I used to some here all the time in my mid 20s. So we go in, the bartender was very nice and respectful, we order 2 Draft domestic beers ( supposed to be the cheapest right?) And go out back to play Cornhole, we play a few games and decide to get 2 more of the exact same thing and hang out for a little. When it's time to go after 4 drinks total for the two of us, domestic draft beers I might add, I go to the bathroom and my wife takes care of the bill. She noticed they charged us a total of $41 for 4 domestic draft beers so waits for me to get out of the bathroom because she didn't think a tip would be appropriate seeing as how much we were just charged for 4 beers. I did leave a tip of $2.70, yes that's low, but my thought was if I'm already paying $41 for 4 beers, there's not much room left for tips.....who would be cool with paying a 20% tip on the most expensive domestic beers, literally in the world? If you want us to tip your bartenders, maybe make the drinks affordable to do so! I wanted to leave him a nice tip, but I didn't have more than $44 to spend that night, I gave them all my money. Draft beers are usually $4-6 dollars, domestic usually $4. So here I was thinking the bill would be around $26 after tax, and that left room for a nice tip.....well after the $41 charge, all my tip money was gone, so who's fault is it really. That's all...right? Nope!! Went home to see they charged the $44 and then another $16.29 on top that was totally unauthorized. So I call them up, a woman answered the phone, I am being nice and explain the situation, she says she will call me back with a solution...well she never called back, and I angrily called back and left a voicemail because I felt robbed and taken advantage of. Still no call back the next day. So I leave a Google review explaining our experience and the owner completely denied everything both my wife and I were saying. Even though we have screenshots of our bank statement showing the charges we are speaking of. Then she begins to gaslight me and tell me none of that happened and claimed I was attacking the bartender, which I never did, I never blamed him, he was wonderful! It's the drink price and the unauthorized charge that I was giving a bad review. Please think twice and read the bad reviews before you go here, you will see a trend, we are not the first to be overcharged or have unauthorized money taken out of our account. I wish I would have read these reviews before we went, it would have saved me from paying$60 for 4 draft domestic beers. Not to mention, if you get robbed or have bad service and say anything about it, the owner will deny and gaslight you to make herself look better. This place is pretty freakin cool. They have inside bars, outside bars, a dance floor, a giant sand pit for corn hole & some swings you can sit and relax. Great drinks here! Bartenders are always so friendly. Great drink prices. This place is a super good time with friends. There's plenty of space to just hang out and have a drink. The inside turns into a club type at night on the weekends. I haven't had any food here yet but I plan on coming back. But if you're looking for a little drink spot with your friends to do some day drinking this is the place or if you're looking for a great night out this is the place too. read more

This spot is a hidden gem. Someone (possibly the owner or badass GM) is very intuitive to the seasonal appeal that makes this place feel homey and fun. You can easily feel like you're at a club but there are so many elements create a homey atmosphere and set it apart from anywhere else. You wouldn't even know how amazing this venue is unless you happen to just check it out and step in. A lot of places around the corner will charge you a cover and the place is dead and the size of a storage unit. This place is gynormous and its always packed with beautiful people and good music. The bartenders are all very cool, especially Dan and Marina. Security is very vigilant and friendly. I think my only complaint is that.... Once you walk out you have to pay $10 to get back in. I'm not against this rule except when security wouldn't let a perfectly cordial patron get back in to close his tab and get his card. That's a bit unfair. It wasn't until I offered to close his tab for him and ask how much he wanted to tip that the door guy finally allowed him to come in and do it himself. But they are strict about that rule. So make sure you close out. I will also say if you act like a drunken asshole you will find yourself outside on the street faster than you can say "I'm cool bro" while your friends are inside having a blast and don't even know your home and your phone is dead. The venue is amazing and the live bands are way better than the DJ/s on Friday Saturday which are also very good. I actually like the place better before it gets crazy busy. Google says they open at 2:30 I believe but I don't think they actually open until 5:30 except for Sundays. Don't trust google just call and ask if they're open. Either way you'll be blown away by the venue, the decorations and the down to earth staff. You will not find this at any of the other spots in a 300 mile radius. Have fun and be responsible. Horrible. I was one of 5 patrons in the whole bar on a Thursday night in the summer and yet they call last call at 1am when the place closes at 1:30am according to the website. The security guard was harassing us to drink it and kicked us out by 1:08am. He literally stood by us and made us drink our drinks and kicked us out. The place was completely empty. The security was extremely rude. The bartender on the first floor was nice and welcoming. But I would never return and I would not recommend anyone to go there. I can see why the place was empty on a busy night. Please do not go there. also the double is serve on the same size cup as a regular. I have it a 1 star cause is 0 is not acceptable. read more

I would never go to this place if I were you...unless you like your belongings stolen and have the staff do nothing about it. As soon as I noticed my purse was missing and that it was stolen, I informed a security member, who told me "sorry, I'll keep an eye out for it." The staff did nothing to prevent people from leaving or even question people. As soon as security was being useless, I tried to get the bartender, Chase or Jace (the only one who has a microphone, don't remember the spelling of his name) to make an announcement about my stolen purse so the staff could be on the same page. He rolled his eyes and made an offhand announcement saying "someone stole a purse" and put the microphone down and literally put in zero effort to assist me. Additionally, the police have contacted Lunasea to provide video surveillance of the evening I was there and between what times, and they have yet to respond to the Virginia Beach police department. I contacted Lunasea a few days after the incident to see if someone turned in a purse matching the description I provided. Daniel, an employee with Lunasea informed me he would check the manager's office and call me back in 30 minutes. That was 7 days ago. Needless to say, stay far away from this place as possible. Completely useless staff, security, and overall incompetent personnel working here. Luckily for Lunasea, a zero star isn't an option. read more

This is one of the more unique spots at the Oceanfront that is a must for anyone that wants to hang out at the beach but avoid the touristy traffic that tends to accumulate in this area. The bar is two stories, indoors and out. The indoor first floor is more of a restaurant-type area with a small bar and an outdoor patio. When you walk through to the back (which seems to open later in the evening), you're met with a huge sand pit right in the center, surrounded by upper-level decks that look down into the pit. In this pit you'll find people playing cornhole, and/or dancing when there's a DJ stationed there. Inside and upstairs there is a club with another DJ and a couple "dancing poles". Sometimes when it's crowded it gets reallllly hot up there so it's probably best to just get your drink and go back outside. There is seating all around in the form of cushioned patio-type chairs and and wooden benches located on all the decks. There are full-service bars scattered all around (I believe a staff member told me there were 7 total) so you should have no problem getting a drink. Overall the atmosphere feels sort of like a party at a beach house, and if the weather is right, it's very relaxing. I've eaten here a few times, both during the evening and during brunch. The food has always been amazing. The staff, from my experience, has been very friendly and inviting. There are a lot of stairs involved, which was an issue for one of my friends that is in a wheelchair, but is fine if you stick to the first level and stay out of the sand. Saw the patio from our hotel and decided to check out Lunasea. The menu wasn't overwhelming to decipher after a long day at the beach. Everything looked delicious and from what we tried the descriptions were very accurate. They had a variety of light dinner options, low carb and heavier options. Food was good potion for beach prices. Mixed Drinks on the other hand were weak and not as flavorful as I hoped. Still, our server Connor was on point with keeping our glasses full and hosting us. So lucky we were walking by during Sunday brunch! It can be discouraging walking by nice restaurants with a tot & baby but the customers on the patio were the best promo for this place (and the mimosas)! They all made us feel welcome with our wagon full of kiddos and they even have a kid menu! Mark & Dee took great care of us! I could have stayed there all day but-kids! Haha just a block from the beach, strawberry stuffed French toast and hubs' sandwich were delish! We are only here for vacay a few more days but def plan to come back for the Cubanos! After years and years of hearing about this bar I finally had to check it out (again, I think...continue to read). I rolled in here with a buddy, a few of his friends and my lady to kick it for the night and gosh did we see some ish we wish we didn't see. As a venue this place is probably closer to four stars but given the type of people I was surrounded by it sort of turned me off a bit although somewhat expected of such Ocean Front type bars. First walking in I vividly recall the lounge area in the back of the bar area. Have I been here before? Perhaps it was on the list of bar stops in a crawl I did in 2008 and I had a little too much to drink that night. Something just seemed like I've been there before but I cannot recall specific details... Anyway, it was an inviting type atmosphere when walking in to the place. There's a bar, outdoor seating, tables and chairs and the cool lounge area that I mentioned. Walk beyond the lounge area and the place becomes an even cooler spot. I found a restaurant area that had absolutely nobody inside of. Perhaps because the evening was close to midnight and the party people were partying. Walk upstairs and you'll find yourself in the nightclub area with another bar, a dance floor with two stripper poles, a DJ mixing it up and a bunch of douche bag dudes dancing like clowns in their own dance battle. I was in the presence of a bachelorette party and these girls were getting so wild (all clothed) I had to watch. I suppose when you're rolling with your six best girlfriends you're allowed to do whatever you want to the stripper pole because it's a bachelorette party and the douche bag dudes who are trying to get laid for the night keep cheering you on... I was quite pleased with their performance until a few women who should not even be close to a stripper pole tried to show off their skills. (Do your thing girl, I'm just going to look the other way.) I really do think the person who invented the pole that goes from the floor to the ceiling meant for dancing and acrobatic moves flipped over in his or her grave. After I had enough of the Girls Gone Wild prelude I made my way outside (while still upstairs) and found an awesome patio area. Below was additional space to mix and mingle where people were sipping on their drinks and carrying on in conversation. There was a huge blocked off sand area with a volleyball net set up but some six or seven games of corn hole were going and people were having a great time. It's a good place for groups or for you you and your wing (wo)man. This place offers the nightclub scene and the relaxing mingle environment. Oh and to the fellas under 30...the cougars were out and they were hunting! Just don't be a douche bag in your quest. Lots of people, lots of space, great music and enough wild crap going on that I'll be sure to come back. read more

My boyfriend and another one of our friends also had the extra $10 charge (this is on top of the charge that we signed our receipt for). I've been trying to contact them to rectify the situation for a few days and they've not answered their phones nor do they have a website that gives any indication of a way to contact them. The fish tacos were probably some of the best I've ever had, very light and crispy and whatever sauce they use on top is delicious! The crab dip was good but the pita chips were a bit stale. The blackened shrimp lettuce wraps were good but for ease of eating, I would probably sub the lettuce wraps for an actual tortilla next time. The Duvall steak sandwich tasted good but the bigger strips of steak made it hard to chew. We loved the drinks here, especially the painkiller and margaritas. I would not advise sitting outside, our table was swarmed with flies. Another table was offered a citronella candle but we were not. We also didn't realize there was more space in the back, we will have to check that out next visit. Also a minor point, our server was very sweet. However, as our service went on, I noticed she would only make eye contact with my significant other, asked if she could get him anything else, and refilled his water but not mine. I've been saying it for years: there needs to be more activities for people to do when they are drunk. Sweating out the liquor and getting a little exercise (aside from grinding on strangers and dancing on the bar) can only be a positive thing: cuts down on DUI's and incidences of one night stand regret. Alas Luna Sea has answered my call. With a sandy volleyball pit, cornhole boards and more, Luna Sea is for the active and tipsy set. I love this place--it's spacious, there's a huge outdoor deck, the clientele is nice and nice looking and the music is decent. A great beach spot, Luna Sea can be a little hard to get in on a good summer night, but worth the wait in line. read more

We finally got in after vigorous ID checks. I'm talking double, triple checks. When we finally sat, we wanted to play the corn hole they offered but just as you guessed it... that was closed too. Ever get the sudden urge while your out to want to be involved in a game of dodgeball while heavly intoxicated?!? i know i have. First off let me set the scene. Rounding a corner coming off a strip of restaurants, bars, hotels, entertainers on the street, and no cursing signs (yah), i start to approach what looks like I'm entering into a frat house at Buffalo University. But no, this is no frat house. You enter into what feels like a beach house with different rooms all connected in a house-like fashion. There are two bars in the downstairs and if you venture upstairs u`ll be able to dance your booty off with a mix of locals, navy folk (yes girls if your into sailors this is the place for you), and of course tourists. All between the ages of 19-24. The upstairs bar is alot bigger then the rest and gives you a breather from the crowd. One of the many reasons i love this place! But wait ..you think that this place is fully reviewed?... Oh think again... we haven't even moved outside yet! Walking down a flight of stairs that could probably kill someone after a few too many Stella's... i arrive outside with a bar to my left and smack in the middle is a huge sand pit the size of a volleyball court. Once a week they hold dodgeball and even volleyball games right in the middle of the party. When games weren't going on people hang out in the sand pit like its not even there. Went to this place for drinks after a day at the beach. The atmosphere is perfect for college kids. Relaxed and a little kitschy with a sand area for volleyball, corn hole or other sport-ish pursuits, and indoor bar with a tropical feel, some patio areas and a club-ish area upstairs. As my friend and I went in we were repeatedly asked where we went to college. We are both no longer in college, so we felt a bit on the old side. We ended up hanging out at the inside bar, chatting up some patrons and drinking some delicious creamsicle blended beverages (a steal at $7 each). I might stop by again for another frosty beverage, but would probably head somewhere either more relaxed or upscale to spend more of my evening. read more

Came here for brunch with sis and Ryan, her bf. They said that this place did brunch right and that their mimosas were good. So we went, sat outside, had a great time conversing, drinking and eating. They picked up the tab, which annoyed me because they're little kids, and little kids should never pay for grown-ups. But Ryan is like 6'3" or 6'4" so I let it slide. Plus my sister is a bit of a hard head and she gets what she wants. I would definitely go back here for brunch to return the favor. I had a ball at this beach bar. I am interested to see it during the summer, as it was still packed during the winter. We accidentally discovered the upstairs part as we were downstairs drinking Caribou Lous and decided to get some air and walked outside, saw the stairs and came up. Spotted the sand pit, but I didn't dare try to climb in as I was trying to be cute, and the outside seating, given the right temp, would make this a definite stop on a summer trip here. I can't really comment too much on Luna Sea the bar, but it was the best choice we found for brunch along the beach. There's an indoor bar which seems fairly small and pretty dark; even in broad sunlight it was like peering into a cave. However, there was also a nice patio out in front which is shady, but still possible to catch some vitamin D. The tables are fairly close together which made for easy chatting between customers; I'd like to thank the people next to us who spent the early afternoon entertaining us. I'm not sure if it's all the time, but they had a great special: two breakfast entrees for the price of one and $2 mimosas and bloody marys (there was a do-it-yourself bloody mary bar with five different mixtures). Needless to say, the meal was astoundingly cheap (even after several mimosas) and my omelet was actually really well done; equal to or better than the typical serving from a breakfast place. read more

The staff was really friendly and the drinks came out quickly. I had a big margarita (awesome!) and my boyfriend got a speciality mix drink which he loved. We ordered nachos and the fajitas - both were just okay. I wouldn't go back for just the food. After we ate we went and checked out the outside bar. It was really clean and huge! They had 4 separate areas - dance area, inside bar, outside bars that over looked the club, plus a baggo area. The drinks were a little expensive, but overall I loved it. Drove in to town from Florida and after checking in to our hotel room we decided to walk around and check out the area. We received two recommendations for Luna Sea - the first from the hotel clerk and the second from a cab driver who we happened to meet. There were four in our party - 2 adults and 2 children under 12. We arrived within the first hour after the place opened and was greeted immediately by Kayte who then led us to a table inside near the fireplace. We were the only party in the restaurant and after reading other reviews I am glad we arrived and left before it got packed. We ordered some drinks - water x4, sweetened iced tea, Coke x2, and a Sam Adams Cold Snap on tap. After drinks were brought to the table we ordered our meal. The kids both ordered Lunasea Burgers - one cooked medium well with bacon, cheese, and grilled onions for an additional $3; the other cooked medium rare with cheese and bacon for an additional $2. Both burgers came with a side of fries. My spouse ordered the shrimp burrito which came with yellow rice and black beans. I ordered the Scallop BLT which also came with fries. While waiting on our food, we were greeted by a male employee who appeared to be the bartender. He inquired if the music they were playing was too loud since we were seated directly beneath a speaker. It wasn't but we appreciated the inquiry, nonetheless. Our food arrived within a reasonable amout of time after placing our order, all meals arrived at the same time, and nothing was cold or soggy. The kids raved about their burgers. I thought the Scallop BLT was amazing. French fries were perfectly seasoned. I have to admit, I've been craving that meal all day. My spouse was happy with his burrito but had commented on the black beans tasted "a little off" and explained to me that it tasted like plastic.
