Came during lunch on Monday. There were plenty of empty tables but was told there was a 10 min wait. Decided to sit at the bar. Ordered a margarita on the rocks, no salt. It came out with salt. I told the bartender that I didn't want salt and he picked up my glass, used his hand to brush the salt off and put the glass in front of me. I was speechless. When I asked for a new glass, he acted as if I completely inconvenienced him. I mean, he already told us that he was tired. Ugh! We were told that they ran out of salsa. Huh? Should have left at that point...as everything after that wad just shame on me The lunch menu is small. Has only 6 of 7 options...mostly chicken. One meal included a tamale, but no description. I asked what meat was inside and was told pork by two different bartenders. It's ground beef FYI. read more

I'm not sure what new spice they added to the Charro beans, but they have completely ruined them--definitely not up to Tex-Mex standards. $20 is not justifiable for what I received. As of February 22, they haven't gotten their rhythm down yet. When we arrived, at 7:45 p.m., we were told it would be a 35-40 minute wait. There were numerous tables without anyone sitting in them, but those ahead of us, nor we were not offered these tables. I decided to get a couple of cocktails at the bar while we waited. Those took 20 minutes to serve and lacked the fruit garnish depicted on the menu, and one of the drinks didn't come close to filling the glass. We were finally seated after waiting an hour for a table. That's when things improved tremendously. The chips and salsa and pinto beans served when the waitress finally arrived were excellent, especially the pintos which had a nice kick and would have made a great meal itself if served in a bowl like chili. We ordered the Grandioso (fajitas for three). The bacon wrapped shrimp were delicious. The beef and chicken were excellent and it all came out on a sizzling platter. The food here was excellent. My wife and I came here a few times years ago when they first opened. At that time it was decent and the ribs were good. After years of not going we tried it again on a Friday at 1:30 for lunch. The place wasn't very full. Our server, Leah, was very nice (but a little too chatty). We ordered the 5-piece ribs for an appetizer When they arrived 3 of them were burnt beyond recognition. The other two were basically edible. My wife ordered the cheese enchiladas with chili con carne sauce. When they arrived, the enchiladas were fine but there was hardly any chili con carne on them. I order the fish tacos - two for $19.00!!! They are "puff tacos shells" with small pieces of fish on the bottom and a HUGE mound of lettuce....very little sauce. With my first bite they tasted very "fishy" (no pun intended) like the fish was undercooked / almost raw! I opened up the taco and it's just some unevenly cut small fish pieces. My initial thought was they just cut up some leftover fish from another patron's plate. I truly hope that wasn't the case! 99.9% of the fish tacos I've eated had a nice large filet / solid piece of fish in them.....NOT small cutup pieces. I ate some of my wife's lunch, asked for the check and left the "fish taco" meal behind. With so many choices in the area for Tex-Mex I doubt we'll ever return to Lupe's. read more

We came here as a group of 8 adults and ordered a lot of food and drinks. We also ordered the quail but they only had one portion left and the manager was kind enough to let us know and we were fine with that. We were served with jasmine and she was great till the check came! My dad paid for everyone and noticed a 20% gratuity already added but when we checked the fine print of the menu it says "gratuity of 15% may be added for groups of 8 and above". We went to our server and questioned her about it and she played dumb and like a victim turned to my dad and with a stinking attitude said "so you do not want to add the 20%?" It was such a guilt trip and we just wanted it to be lowered to the amount it was supposed to be and let us decide how much more to add! She stormed off to get the manager and returned and very rudely placed the new check and said she removed all the gratuity and walked off again! Despite that we left her a decent tip because her service was good up until then. We then asked for the manager and spoke to her and explained what happened to which she responded "the server should not have done that and even to add the gratuity needs to get my approval first" my dad told her to just train the server better and that one shouldn't be stealing a tip instead earn it. During this time, the 7 of us who were waiting for my dad to finish talking, notice jasmine gossiping about my dad in the kitchen with her colleagues. It's a see through kitchen and we could hear everything and see her dirty looks that she gave towards my dad. She went on talking the entire time my dad was speaking to the manager. The manager told my dad they want to make it up to us and took his information and it has been more than 2 weeks but sadly no one has reached back out and we feel so terrible that we brought our extended family from out of town here to celebrate a fun evening which ended on such a bad note! We have never been treated like this or been guilt tripped into leaving a tip! Sadly the lupe team had disappointed us that evening and even now by not reaching out and checking again. We tried three menu items, all of them home runs. Texas Benedict Biscuits were gravy goodness. The chilequilas were (while not the best I ever had) really good. The eggs and enchiladas were fab. Wonderful place to sit, relax and get ready for friendly service, delicious entrees and great selection of drinks. Whether you visit for brunch, lunch or dinner (check info on their website) you will not be disappointed. They listen to substitutions and if you want anything additional like a serving of jalapenos on the side. Been there several times and amazed how quick, thorough and attentive toward detail they are. Menu is quite extensive and I had a hard time deciding between and our server suggested an entree close to both. It was exactly what I wanted. Another time it was a specific drink and they nailed it! Last visit I requested a certain table and wouldn't mind waiting for it. They immediately cleaned it and escorted there handing us menus and bringing water as it was a hot day out. Management must be wonderful because everyone smiles, takes time to talk with you for details when ordering and I've been told "I got you. I will take care of you." And yes, all times my server did earn their tip. Always appreciated their hard work. We came hungry to this place and unfortunately were disappointed. We were able to beat the rush and got seated promptly. It was relayed that we were first timers so we were brought a sample of their beef fajitas. However, my angst with this, as they raves about both their beef and chicken fajitas is why didn't they offer a sample of both, especially since there are some that don't eat beef (like myself). It's odd to answer somethings good when you don't get to try. We ordered the tortilla soup, eggs and enchiladas, and the cilantro lime chicken. The chips and salsa are flavorful but sadly not spicy, nor do they have a spicy salsa. The tortilla soup had soggy Tortilla chips which was disappointing. My friend did enjoy her eggs and enchiladas. The cilantro lime chicken started off promising but the second piece was undercooked. Disappointing and disgusting. We also got churros which seemed like they were weeks old and reheated. Not soft at all, crunchy to be exact and the chocolate sauce wasn't even warm. Not worth the money if this is what you get. I'm quite mad I spent so much. I disregarded this place because it had a 3 star review for a long time. Assumed it was just another terrible tex mex restaurant. I messed up. This is my favorite tex mex restaurant!! The tortillas are actually fresh, unlike everywhere else, the chips and salsa are great, it's a smoked salsa instead of stuff that tastes like pace, and I've enjoyed everything I've tried. Easily my favorite salsa around. For reference, it's a lot like Hacienda Ranch salsa. (My other favorite salsa is Chuy's, which is very different, but might give you an idea of if we are on similar salsa pages or not! I know everyone has their own preference!) FRESH TORTILLAS folks. This is a big one. I'm amazed how most local places aren't doing this but Lupe is doing both corn and flour fresh and they're amazing. You definitely want to order some if your meal doesn't come with any. During hatch Chile season they have an EXCELLENT queso. Unfortunately I'm not a huge fan of their regular queso so I only order queso during hatch season. My husband likes the regular queso, which is that bright yellow standard variety that most tex mex places offer. Lupe is officially MY FAVORITE place for fajitas. I've tried every single tex mex place in the area and the beef fajitas here are absolutely everything I could want. They come with all the fixings (cheese pico guac, ask for sour cream) and those amazing fresh tortillas which you can absolutely stuff full. Add some of their smoked salsa to them and you'll be in fajita heaven. They have a lot of options for fajitas but I must admit, I haven't been able to move past the beef ones yet because they're just that good. I always substitute their rice and beans for some elote corn which is char grilled and delicious! The hardest part about going to Lupe is deciding if I want corn or flour tortillas because they're both great. Fair warning, the service is often very slow here. In fact it's the only big problem we have really had. They seem perpetually understaffed...no matter if they're busy or empty. But as long as you have the time to spare, it's worth the wait. Lupe is my new favorite restaurant! Boyfriend and I dropped in for fun and was pleasantly surprised. The chips and salsa were great. They also brought charro beans with the salsa, really good. I had the salmon with peppers, rice, and charro beans with the corn. The sauce for the corn is so good that I had extra with my salmon. My boyfriend had the quesadillas with the same sides. He thought they could be filled with more meat. The libations were also great! We both had flights, and the barrel margarita was included. We have been coming here since the restaurant opened and for the most part we like it. The food is good, the service is great, and it is a very relaxed environment to enjoy a meal after a day's work. The last 2 time we were greeted by a receptionist that gives you the feeling that she does not want to be there. She does not look us in the eye, says very few words, almost mumbling, and takes her sweet time to select a table and seat us. Very slow, looking like she is bored out of her brains. This was our first time going to Lupe Tortilla. Our server was Al and he was great! Super friendly, attentive, funny and very, very nice! The house margaritas are weird. They are VERY tangy and unlike any margarita we e had before. Their margarita mix is odd tasting - like there is too much lime or citruses plus something else added in. We tried several tacos. The pork tacos are cubed overcooked meat, and is not shredded pork. The beef taco was not very good. The puffy taco was the best of the 3, but super greasy. It was sitting in a lot of grease and also was dripping grease when held. The tortilla chips had no flavor and needed salt. The only reason we would return to this restaurant is if we were guaranteed Al would be our waiter!! read more

Did a Togo order of queso, guacamole,salsa and tortillas in bulk to supplement a taco bar for a party. Tortillas were 12imch tortillas which doesn't make tacos so we had to deal with that. They gave us 2 small brown bags of chips not nearly enough for all the dip we purchased. Called the manager because we spent 140$ on the Order it is was a problem we were also having to go get more chips. It's was great to hear from the manager that we should have asked for more chips when we picked up the order and this was my fault. I had a friend pick it up and I didn't know they were going to have to tell the people working the Togo orders to give us the correct amount of chips for the amount of dip I ordered. This is the "soft opening" for this latest addition to TexMex restaurants in Allen. The formal opening is hoped to be February 12. For that reason, reservations are recommended. As we did not have a reservation, we were given a card, provided our cell and waited to be seated. When we asked how long as the place was pretty much empty when we went, the host said they were staggering in people so as not to overwhelm the kitchen. May I suggest that a 'soft opening' be held only for a specific focus group. First impressions can never be withdrawn. For that reason, I won't be as harsh in the review if they had been up and running for months, but will post this in hopes that I can update this review in the future. FOOD: No problem here. Everyone at the table loved their food. It did take 40 minutes to get it, but it waS hot and very good. Only one suggestion: people in this area are used to having their own salsa container, the one little one was not adequate for a table of 4. Pintos were fabulous and no one else is doing that. ATMOSPHERE: This is a brand new place and it is functional and beautiful. They have a private party room and tables are well placed. SERVICE: This is where they have a LOT of training to do. First off, NO introduction from the waitstaff. The drink order submitted and another 10 minutes to get water. No lemons offered at the table. The waitress seemed to be constantly in the weeds and we had to ask for everything. When she brought the checks and comment cards, every single comment cards had been filled out to be 5 stars and mine was dated 1/5/2020 by "Billy". I showed it to the managers as we left & he looked surprised but never apologized or asked us to fill out another card. TIPS: The biggest complaint I had is with the bar. The drinks were really watered down and we each ordered a shot of tequila so we could see the correct pour and added it to our original drink. One of us ordered a Don Julio Repasado and ginger ale. NO ginger ale, and no Don Julio. Hopefully, they can come back up to speed on my next, and maybe last visit. read more

I really wanted to try this place. But I'm hugely disappointed by how the bar staff acted towards me-I'm disgusted. The host and hostess greeted me with a friendly smile and had graciously directed me to the bar, explaining it was open seating at the bar like all other restaurants. I sit down in an empty spot (with 3 open spots) letting the bar staff take their time to address the bar (I was a bartender for 10 years so I am well versed on how bar service works.) The two ladies working the bar go to the diners to my right and left and address them and fill their already full drinks. I cannot even receive a "hi be right with you". I'm thinking okay I may be too harsh but they're closing out tabs and talking to other diners. A group of women approach one of the bartenders and she immediately greets them and engages. So I'm thinking okay, guess I'm not welcome to have a drink here. I get it. There are two sides to every story. But all I'm saying I literally did not get a chance to even try it out here, so can't review on food or drinks. Of course I left, why would I spend money or time in a place that didn't make me feel welcome? read more

My first test of a New Mexican restaurant in town are the chips and salsa. Salsa was ok, but chips were cold- fresh from a bag. Bummer. Ordered queso with jalapeño sausage for an app. Arrived in a little skillet. Cheese was not fully melted so I couldn't eat with chips. Server did not bring utensils or napkin. I went looking for utensils after about 10 minutes trying to flag down a server. Finally got a fork, but the queso was now turned into a small frisbee with hot dog chunks on top. Yikes. There are 50 Mexican restaurants within 10 miles of this place. Time to find some better queso elsewhere. read more
