Never drank straight rum until I visited the M.Bird. I had the Diplomatico Reserva (Venezuelan Rum) and the rocks, and it tasted like a smooth bourbon! We took the chance of walking in on a Saturday night and were able to get a table right away. This is a gorgeous rooftop venue with beautiful views of the city, and a fantastic EDM DJ on the weekend. However, the venue is so loud it is impossible to have conversation with anyone in your party. The drinks to me were also VRRY overpriced and barely contained alcohol. It's hard to justify paying $15 for a margarita in a rocks glass so we opted to just have one drink and leave. read more

Ambiance what's fantastic! It was such a beautiful view to be able to see downtown Tampa and also the Riverwalk. I would definitely suggest you go right before the sunset so you can get a little bit of sunlight and then also experience it at night time. The food was pretty good I loved my salad and sandwich. I do think that the salad portion was pretty small. So I wouldn't recommend getting it. I would've liked to have more of it! The drinks were amazing I enjoyed my Mojito and ordered more than one. Why 5 stars? Because Armature Works continues to hit home runs. --- --- --- I visited Armature Works on the first day that it opened to the public and I knew within five minutes that it was the biggest thing to happen to our city since I moved here in 2007 and 14 months later, I think that's turned out to be true. Every time there's a new addition to this masterpiece of as project, I try to check it out as soon as I can - and the latest new thing is M Bird. Probably the last piece of the puzzle for what was needed here, M Bird is a roof top bar that sits atop the building. Despite coming on a Wednesday, it was still quite busy here. As a matter of fact, there was a line to get inside - they were only letting people in once a certain number of folks headed out, in order to keep the capacity at a manageable number. This was still going on when I headed out. Once I got inside, I was lucky enough to score a seat at the corner of the bar (I was solo.) I quickly ordered the cocktail called "I left my wallet at La Segunda" and it was a solid little concoction: black seal rum, guava-coconut cream, pineapple, lemon and orgeat (whatever that is.) Would order again - 4-stars. I wanted to grab something to eat as well, so I went with the Pork Burger, which had carmelized plantains, guava, rum glazed onion and fontina (again... what?) Despite not knowing what the last ingredient is, this was a damn delicious burger. Would marry - 5-stars. Because I have a painful sugar addiction, I had to finish with a sweet. I couldn't resist the forbidden black rice pudding. It came with fried bananas and sweet caramel sauce (I know what those things are.) The plating of this dish was very unique - it looked like brown rice with truffles on top and some churros on the side. But it turned out to be just what the menu described it as - black rice and fried bananas. The only misleading thing is that it wasn't very pudding-y... it was actually quite dry. Unique factor = 5-stars, but I'd say that it's best shared with a friend, as it's quite intense. 4.5 stars overall. The atmosphere is a no-doubt 5-star. The views of Tampa are amazing and the scene is very lively. Like everything else at Armature Works, it's exquisitely designed and beautiful from every angle. There's seating and menu items for just about any occasion - from a fun night out with friends, to a high-roller celebration with bottle service. The only bottle service I'm involved in these days is formula for my baby - I was just happy with the cocktail and burger. read more

This is a really hard place to review. And your enjoyment of it will depend a lot of what you like to do on a Friday or Saturday night. First, the really good. The view is spectacular. We went at sunset and it was a wonderful place to see it. Tampa is a beautiful city and you can see it perfectly here. At 5 pm it took 30 minutes to get a table, so you know this place is extremely popular. We stayed at Armature works for coffee and dessert downstairs, and the line was at least 40-50 to get in until we left around 11. So they are doing something right. Other good things, the tater tots may have been the best I have ever had. They nailed it. Could use an aioli or something other than just plain ketchup to take it to an even higher level, but they were 5 star for sure. The jerk chicken egg rolls were quite good. Our initial server was great, friendly, attentive despite the crowd. Our second server was attentive but not really very friendly. What I didn't like was the noice level. We left with sore throats. This is not a place to go for a casual evening to talk to friends. It may be one of the best parties in Tampa, but to eat and chat, not so much. The prices are not great. They aren't horrible, but seemed a bit overpriced for the drinks and especially the steak. Got the flank steak. Flavor was good but there was no sauce. The side that I thought looked great, honey fried croquettes, were out so I got more tots. They were great, but I already had them as an app. The portion was sooooo small. I have had much larger portions of steak on a steak salad costing 8-10 less. I would never get it again. Overall, it was a nice evening but I don't like leaving a place feeling like I paid too much for what we got, and having a sore throat. We had never been there before, so now we know. If you like a lively party atmosphere with good if expensive drinks and a great view, this might be the best place in Tampa. If you are looking for a nice place to eat and visit with friends, there are a lot better options in Tampa. Depending on what you want, M.Bird is either 5+ stars, or 3. The same company owns Ciro's, I believe. We loved Ciro's and that is more our speed. read more

We sat under the covered patio on high bar stools closest to the open air portion of the patio and the cool breeze, energetic vibe, and loud enough music made for a vibrant scene on a Tuesday evening. M.Bird has very few choices of small plates that they describe as tapas. I would describe the bites as large size tapas whereas traditional tapas are small bites that allow you to order several plates before you are full. We had our eyes on the jerk chicken egg rolls, tuna nachos, and shrimp skewers. Thank goodness we only placed an order for the egg rolls because they were huge! So huge that we ended up too full to order anything else. If you have a group of at least 4 people this would not have been an issue, but for a party of 2, it was just too much food.
