Today,was feeling lazy to cook, so we decided to try out Mabuhay. We've come here every now & then to buy halo halo or some filipino chips. Today we ordered from their cooked meals: bistig, kaldereta, pinakbet & sinigang, and all i can say was everything was floating in oil. Just see pics. I also read a comment regarding food not being kept within a safe temperature and i TOTALLY agree with him! Food wasnt warm, even the sinigang soup which is suppose to be hot isnt even lukewarm. So disappointing that some people dont give pride in what they serve and cook. read more

My wife and I dropped in on this place a few months back to hopefully pick up some lumpia to bring to a party and fry up. Instead, the staff asked if we had an extra 15 minutes and they would take care of a tray of them for us on the cheap! We waited and got our lumpias then headed to our friends... Everyone was raving over the freshness and flavor - plus, they were still hot and delicious! Omg some of the best Filipino food ever !!! Chicken Adobo and lemon steak and spicy steak was some of the best items I've ever had, a little taste of heaven. No stars now as you actually lost us as customers. We just moved to Brentwood this last few months and were excited to have this small store around.I have only ordered to-go catering for my work (example 300pcs of lumpia) on a handful of occasions. 2 older ladies in the store today (SUNDAY afternoon) Nonetheless, my mom (who just moved in with us 2 weeks ago and was totally excited about having this store close to us) was shopping with us and she accidentally dropped a small bottle of shrimp fry. We totally understand that we need to pay for it... some businesses make ppl pay or some do not. In the end, it is the matter of how you treat customers. Not rudely saying to your other lady cashier "PABAYAD MO" 3 times.. passing by us with a rude look on her face... JUST TO MAKE SURE the other lady charges us. We understand.. and my mom actually said to the nicer lady cashier "para walang problema babayaran namin" (So we have no problems, we will pay for it).However this older lady rudely disregards our existence and passes by the counter and says PABAYAD MO (make her pay). In the end, basic respect and common courtesy on how you treat customers is what matters. The concept of payment is understood... but how you speak and treat people is what matters. I've traveled through Northern & Southern California, including Hawaii, several times and I've dined at many, many Filipino restaurants. However I find Mabuhay Restaurant's cuisine very, very expensive. Consequently their prices seems to vary, depending on the weather or who is walking through their door, which is an old "Filipino" custom that is commonly practice in the entire Philippine region. An example of a costly product...a full sheet of "leche flan" cost me almost $9.00, whereas; in other Bay Area outlets, the cost is only $6.75. Now...if they used some type of extraordinary ingredients for the leche flan, then I wouldn't mind paying for the over-price product. read more

Stopped in for a combo lunch plate. I had Rice with Chicken Adobo and Beef steak with onions. It was all very tasty. I also picked up some pan de sal (Sweet rolls) and Mama-sitas lechon sauce for fried pork. I'm so glad we have this option in Brentwood. read more

If u look a pangat food this place is good fit for you! Pangat means pangatong ulit pang apat na uli niluto. They recooked their food. Thats why u can see all the oil is floated! No good! Hope 1 day licensing see these food and u get fined for that! Thats for your pangat food! The oil so yummy and 3x recooked. Good job! read more

I just found the best place for Lumpia. Fresh, and crispy, and not too greasy at all! Called ahead to order, and picked up 2 hours later. They were warm from just being cooked. The people working there were very nice. The sauce they give you is ok, but if you want a sauce with a lot more kick you can buy it there, it's called Mae Ploy Sweet Chilli Sauce. I love love love Mabuhay! The closest to home cooked meals. I love their pancit, menudo, beef steak, curry chicken, etc. I do like their tapsilog as well! I never mind driving to Brentwood to get some Filipino food. They have home-made frozen lumpias which are delicious as well, great for parties or you can opt for cooked ones. I changed my review after ordering food and I was so rudely told that I had enough soup in my cup. I replied that was fine because I came for the soup and didn't really want the meat in the soup. Rude lady. They lost my business for sure, so now I travel to Pittsburgh if I'm craving sinigang it any other Filipino foods. read more

The food here is good and tasty. We've also ordered trays in the past even during really busy holidays and have had no issues. Service has always been very friendly to us. Store is a little small, so the grocery selection is limited because of that, however we mainly go there for the food. It's nice to have a place like this so close to us. read more

Thank goodness Mabuhay Philippines Foods (and Services) came on to the Brentwood scene. Prior to this blessing, a yummy Filipino lunch was at least 30 minutes away. The lady who owns the star is quite a darling, she has the most welcoming Filipina smile. Plus, the lumpia platter is such a big hit at our work potlucks, they are requested every time. This is a GREAT little shop! Their hot food is delicious, fresh and homemade. The employees are all incredibly kind and friendly. I usually feel out of place in little markets like this because I am only half Filipino, but this place has a total welcoming vibe. I usually get the perfect lunch combo of pancit and lumpia, and oftentimes I cannot resist throwing an extra baked good in as well. Their hopia and flan are to die for! Best anywhere! Thick, creamy custard-y, and no air bubbles. Basically heaven. Also, since they are a market as well, as an added bonus, you can buy their own frozen lumpia and cook them at home. I've been in this store twice. The first time I was helped by a younger female, no older them 18. She was a sweetheart. That trip was a really good first impression and convenient for my grandpa since we live down a few blocks. I took my grandfather in there so he can look around to see what they have. He asked some woman if they carried and San Miguel beer. A simple "no sir, he don't sell beer here." (Not as nice as I put it) was said and we were in our way out. I was walking a bit slower to check some things out as I hear 3 women in the back not speaking English but talking about my grandfather and his simple question for beer. How do I know? Because they were hysterically laughing and had mentioned the beer he was looking for. So all in all, these women are rude an talk about their customers once they are too far to hear. Neat little place. I don't have to drive all the way to Pittsburg or Concord for some PI food. They have a good selection of food to choose from at decent prices. Ordered catering: beef kaldereta, chicken adobo, Sisig, lumpish shanghai. Ladies are super sweet and very helpful. She asked how many people and knew the right size we needed to feed our guests. 30-40 guests, size small pans. The small pans are deep, not like the shallow small pans other caterers have. Usually go in the mornings before 9:30am so not a lot of selections of already cooked food. The food is mediocre but what's disappointing is the small servings. But then again that's somewhat typical with a number of filipino eateries. When traffic isn't bad I go to Island Pacific which often has a lot more and much bigger servings. read more

The true Filipino spirit is present at Mabuhay. I was greeted by the owners as I walk towards the turo-turo steam table. Rows of lechon pork belly lining the dining tables looking crispy red. Mouth watering, I browsed through the menu board and proceeded to order my 3 item combo plate. Wife ordered the tinola pompano, followed by Laing, cardereta, a side of lumpia's and a styrofoam platter full of cuchenta and pitsi-pitsi. Everyone was so hospitable, kuya cleared up a space for us to eat in and even offered me a bowl of sinigang soup. Everything was good just like home. Thank you mga ates and kuya for your hospitality. Lumpia shanghai: perfectly crispy and meaty. Misses: beefsteak with onions. Probably the toughest and greasiest I've ever had. Stay away. Veggie lumpia: veggies mushy and over cooked.
