I came to this Macyaos for the first time. I usually go to the one in Tempe. I sat down in the bar area and was greeted by my server, I don't remember her name, but she had dark long hair and glasses. She got my order right, I was worried bc i know I'm picky and like my food a certain. When it came out it was exactly as I wanted. Not once did I have to request for more beverage. She always had one for me by the time I was finishing my glass. She was also knowledgeable about the menu, I forgot what was the name of what I ordered and as soon as I described it She pointed it out right away. Wonderful authentic Mexican food and Great Happy Hour Margaritas too. Our group of 25 ladies especially enjoyed the outdoor patio. Service was great and they even accepted advanced reservations & separate checks for each of us, making it easy to set up a visit for our larger group. What a nice bonus surprise when we all had when all items ordered off of dinner menu included a 10% senior discount! Also, I noticed that the indoor dining area is setup nicely for laidback family dining for those with children. read more

THEY'RE BACK!!!! I actually worked for Woody in the 80s when I was in college. My husband and I used to go to the Macayo's on Scottsdale road and Shea once a month for probably 10 years. We loved it. Best salsa ever! Excellent green chili Burros enchiladas style. But then... God love her... Woody's daughter took over and changed things up! Clearly she graduated culinary school which is awesome. But she kind of threw out the baby with the bathwater. She changed so many things that all of the classics were gone. So we stopped going. Someone recently gave me a gift card because they remembered that it was one of my favorite Mexican restaurants and so we kind of went grudgingly. I could not have been happier that they brought back all of the original recipes. Even the margarita was back to the original flavor that we remembered! We are so happy and will be going back! Oh golly I don't want to leave here I wish I could sleep in the booth until dinner time. This was the best food I have had in a long at a Mexican restaurant. We had Tessa for our food server and she is a living doll. So attentive, friendly and I could go on and on. The manager came around several times and so nice as well Honestly the food was fabulous. Not one thing on our table we had to complain about if we did it would have been a big fat lie. Don't miss out on this gem of a restaurant. Heavily advertised .77 taco event, total bait & switch. Just went into the superstition location and they're not honoring the deal at all. We showed them the fb posts and the manager was firm in denying us the price and said they "ran out" for take out even after we showed the post from 30 mins ago saying they had plenty of tacos ready. Been there three times now. Will not go back. All three times we've been there, we've had to wait for water. When I say wait, two of the three times, our dinner made it before our waters. Last night, I asked the server 3 times for water, on the third ask, she said they didn't have enough glasses, and they would be coming out of the washer soon. We were a table of 5, they brought us 2 waters to share. Then they brought our order, no napkins or silverware. Food is good, I could tell the server was doing the best she could. But it's been like this every time. To anyone that goes, if you don't get your water within 5 minutes, just walk out. read more

I grew up eating Macayo's in central Phoenix so was looking forward to trying out Macayo's in the East valley. Unfortunately, it disappointed. Parking was plentiful and the service was good, but everything else was lackluster. The chips given out with salsa to start were soggy with grease and the rice that came with the entrees was so flavorless. Both the enchilada burrito I ordered and the chimichanga that my husband had were just bland and meh. The cheese crisp we ordered was delicious, however. Went there for my birthday. Waited 2.5 hours with one tray of ships for food and an appetizer that never came. 2.5 hours. Not one sorry, not a discount for the 3 drinks ordered while waiting. My wife and I just left starving. Kuddos to the people next to us that apologized on their behalf. Now to Bebos tacos for a faster food... Quite disappointed. read more

This is for the Superstition Springs Macayo's. This is for their delivery of their food. They have almost *NEVER* gotten the order right!!! Only a couple of times (when we could actually put a comment to double-check the order bc it keeps getting screwed up, which you can no longer do) has it happened. Far more orders have gotten screwed up. I'm soooooooooo *DONE* with delivery. Disgusted. It's not that flippin' hard to get an order correct. They literally have ~ 95% failure rate. *DO NOT ORDER DELIVERY FROM THIS RESTAURANT* unless you're prepared in advance for a huge disappointment. read more

Very average Mexican food. Salsa tastes store bought, chicken enchilada small and not that flavorful. Server Gavin charging twice for one soda and giving a lame reason for doing so and tells us usually takes it off before giving you the bill but forgot....hmm??? Pretty costly (over $7) for 1 soda! We come here almost weekly, and we love it, we've raved about servers who rocked to the managers, filled out surveys when they asked, but unfortunately tonight we sat in the bar and had the worst time, my burro was gushing out water and oil making my whole plate soggy, and the server/bartender only asked if she could get us more napkins, all the workers were huddled at a booth being obnoxiously loud. To top it off their parking lot was littered with water bottles. Saturday night crew just didn't wanna work tonight I guess..which is a shame especially because I'm also a bartender and always tip big, they just didn't care. The other locations are awesome! My husband and I decided about 6 months ago to have dinner at Macayo's. We have been to the one in Tempe and I just loved the food, so awhile ago we decided to try the one in Mesa. I didn't like it at all! Everything we ordered was flat, no flavor at all. My husband had tacos, I had enchiladas. It tasted nothing like the Tempe site at all. Very disappointed. So, we gave it a few months and decided to give it another try. 9/21 2024 we went for dinner. First I ordered a margarita. It was so sour it burned my throat. My hubby ordered tacos, I ordered chicken enchiladas with green sauce. We got our food, it was horrible. The wrap on my enchilada was so tough I couldn't cut it with a fork! I picked it up and the whole wrap opened in one piece! It was like chewing cardboard, so I thought I will just eat the filling. It was so spicy it had no flavor just heat. My hubby said his tacos had no flavor at all. I could not eat my dinner, wasted my money. I gave this place two tries, we are now done. Awful mexican food. read more

We stopped by this Macayos location for an early evening dinner before my daughters soccer game. We were concerned that they would be super busy as we approached the busy parking lot. We were surprised to have been seated right away. My daughter had the kids taco plate, and my husband and I shared the enchilada trio. Not sure if my daughter was being picky but she said the meat for her tacos were too spicy, so they were a bit over seasoned after trying it myself. Otherwise our food was good and they even gave my daughter an adult size lemonade. We sat in the booths along the wall as you enter the restaurant on the bar side. The atmosphere was loud and busy. I'm laughing right now. They are running a "special" for their anniversary, 78 cent cheese crisps. The catch is you have to bake them at home as they won't bake them for to-go orders; this little caveat is not mentioned anywhere in their advertising for the event. The amount of cheese they give isn't enough to cover the raw tortilla. I feel this was a bait and switch, and they knew they were going to be doing this as they had little instruction postcards printed and taped to the box, so not as unexpected as they claimed. If your kitchen isn't capable of supporting your specials, simply don't run them. This is definitely not a Macayo's cheese crisp. read more

We had the most amazing appetizers. Tamale bites were my favorite along with the Mexican corn dip and cheese crisp . I will definitely be going back for the Red Sangria absolutely amazing . I also tried the Gauva Coloda it was so good ! Stevie Nicks canceled her concert so we had a party at Macayos. I will definitely be going back . The staff was so friendly and accommodating . I was torn between 2 or 3 but their portions were good so I bumped it up. The food was pretty good, my rice was OK compared to other rice I've had. Service was the main disappointment. It was a Saturday night so I get they're busy, but my husband has been during slower times and said the service was still not great. Employees and management just felt rushed and sort of pushed you to the table, being blunt and not friendly. Just felt like people were in a bad mood. Was in at 8 pm on 6/30. Had the tortilla soup. Usually love it. This time it was mushy and they put guacamole in the soup, Usually a sliced avocado. Mentioned to the server and he thought it looked good. I did not eat it. Everything else was pretty good. Only three tables so very quiet. I may wait till the busy season to come back. read more

Last week I got salsa with my hot sauce (and again today) and I was very happy to see/taste it. You changed back to your delicious salsa you had for years. You change it to picante sauce for several years and I do not like picante sauce. The good stuff is back (minus the chunky tomatoes) But it is good. Would be great with a bit of chunky tomatoes. Not good. Service was slow food was so so. I may try this again but the night went stopped by the service was not up to my expectations.

I have celiacs and so I requested and ordered from the gluten free menu, and specifically let the waitress know I was celiac and so I have a gluten allergy. She proceeded to bring me flour tortillas. Upon inquiry she said she did bring flour and I said I can't have flour-- I have a gluten allergy which is why I ordered off the gluten free menu. She said she doesn't know what that means and she "doesn't know what's in tortillas". She then came back to the table and proceeded to tell me that I must have made the mistake of ordering my CHICKEN FAJITAS off the VEGETARIAN side of the menu, which is why she brought flour. I let her know that it was in fact from the gluten free side and even specifically said "gluten free fajitas" when I ordered, and proceeded to deny that they were available as gluten free. As if would make sense to order chicken fajitas off the vegetarian menu anyway. read more
