Hidden gem, try this place! My husband had the quesadilla with red and green mole sauces over refried beans. I had the tiradito, a perfect traditional tuna dish served in a tangy lime-yellow pepper sauce, with a lingering heat. We were too full for dessert or purple horchata but they looked great and we will be back! The food was so delicious and like nothing we'd tasted before. So glad we tried Macizo after reading about it in the Indy Star. The food was delicious and we thought we don't live in that particular part of Indy we've added it to our "well worth the drive" establishments. The food was delicious and plentiful. The restaurant's backstory and future vision is engaging. The ambiance is coming along as they grow but the taverna style seating is charming and comfortable. The staff was knowledgeable and could easily point out such things as gluten free options. This is a husband and wife establishment both bringing the best of their Peruvian and Mexican culture. We visited for dinner this evening. We were informed we came in just in time for happy hour. I encourage you to try their Sangria! It was juicy and delightful. They had a chicken stew on special that seemed too good to pass up. Boy was I right to order it!! I ate the whole thing!! It's served with rice and a gorgeous slice of sourdough bread. It also had like 4 chicken thighs in it... it was definitely a dinner!! I dipped my bread in the broth, which was savory and comforting. The chunks of carrots, potatoes, and peas were perfection! They also sell loaves of their bread to take home. My partner got their spaghetti dish (I'm sorry I don't remember the names!), which had a nice kick to it! I have been wanting to try this place for a while.....and it did not disappoint. My wife, daughter and I shared two starters - meatballs and a chorizo and bean focaccia - meatballs were amazing with an even better sauce. Daughters had tamales verde, wife had a carnita dish with a smoked bean sauce and I had the mole enchiladas. A lot of food and it was all so good, probably the best mole I have had. Highly recommend the rose sangira. The staff was amazing, don't be embarrassed if you don't understand the dish, the waitress was happy to answer our many questions and with a great vibe and always smiling. We will definitely go back - btw, they bake their own sourdough and focaccia as well. And try the salsa matcha if you like some heat. I can't say enough about the food and the experience. This is not good food. It's incredible food. Original, unique, fusion. My partner and I have only been once but we will be back to try every item on this menu. It's fantastic. The drinks were phenomenal and the food was as well. This is clearly an inspired and well-applied concept. The sides and garnishes for each dish were in-house made and tasted incredible. I've never had proper aji Amarillo or salsa matcha before and this experience has made me want to steal their recipes. The burrito was very unique and interesting flavors with its Peruvian fusion Lomo saltado sauce. The tamales were faithful and classic, perfectly executed. Sangria was fabulous, both varieties. Had an amazing meal at Macizo. The Peruvian/Mexican influenced dishes were delicious and packed with flavor. They even make their own breads. We started with the Tiradito (tuna with a leche de Tigre sauce). This dish was a home run with power lime flavors and the crunch of the toasted corn. Then we shared the Molletes and the Pasta Huancaina. Each dish was very different from the other, but I recommend them all. Service was friendly and helpful. Discovering Macizo demonstrates why I read restaurant reviews. Since It's a bit out of my territory, I wouldn't have discovered it except for Yelp. A friend and I ate lunch their last week and were well and truly pleased. The restaurant is plain but spotless--the owners put all their creativity into the wonderful food. My friend had the enchilades verdes and I pasta huancaina. Both dishes were exquisitely plated; their flavors were subtle and complex. But my slice of sour dough bread (to sop up that delicious sauce) were the surprising star of the show. I bake good bread myself but Macizo's is a quantum leap beyond. We happened to be in town for a soccer tournament and found this gem. Small, family owned restaurant that cooks from scratch in house. The Peruvian dishes were simply amazing. The umami flavors to the burrito and ribeye steak in the tacos were just amazing. Don't forget the dessert either, their ala mode pound cake with pistachios is worth the extra calories. Luz was our server - super helpful and courteous. We also appreciated the chef coming to check on how we liked our meals. And the meals - wow - so fresh and flavorful! We stopped in after searching for a restaurant doing happy hour --a reviewer recommend their sangria happy hour (3-6pm on weekdays?)-- and were not at all disappointed. Sangria was made with fresh squeezed juices we were told and was really tart and well balanced. So good! Ordered chicken mole enchiladas and mole verde tamales to-go, both of which we loved. Salsa macha is spicy and smoky and pickled red onions and moles were both delicious. Very friendly/kind owners and staff also. We need more great restaurants like this to stay in business.
