When your Monday morning goal of eating something healthy abruptly ends.

We haven't had donuts since this zombie apocalypse pandemic began. Our regular place has been closed for months so I left it up to my guy to find an alternative. Mackay's has been around for a while but this is my first time I've had their donuts. Can't say they're better than my fav place but they aren't awful either. I could tell they were freshly made, but something about the taste wasn't optimal. My guy forgot to get my favorite donut (da plain!), that's the donut by which I judge every other donut so I'll admit I should try these again so I can be sure of my opinion. In any case, the chocolate was delish, the airy raised donuts were pillowy light and I'd likely rate these higher if I hadn't had anything better. Swift and friendly service, definitely worth a try...especially if you're on a quest to support local, family owned donut shops.

I'm in here 4 times a week and despite three donuts running you 8 bucks and the donuts I want are 1/2 the time not available, but today way the last straw. Rode my bike there, ordered , and was turned away because my 20 dollar bill has a damaged corner. Apparently even though I touched the food it was still fit to go back in the display case. I'm beyond surprised that even when I presented the law regarding damaged money and under the threat of never returning I was still denied DONUTS, are you serious?!? Other than that they do t even make very good donuts anymore and only make enough to guarantee they sell out of them all. What horseshit. Goodbye McKay donuts, you will not be missed.

This place looks like your average local donut shop. They have breakfast burritos and bagel sandies as well. Bagel Bacon Egg and Cheese was good. Nothing special but the bagel was soft and tasted good. The one that surprised me is the Raisin Bread. It was excellent. Not flaky but fantastic flavor.

[Review #68] Due to horrific traffic conditions, I got off the freeway & took the side streets home. Mackay's was en route so I thought I drop in to see if they had any cronuts left (even though she warned me during my last visit that they're usually available in the morning & sells out just after lunch). They didn't have any. That's ok... Mackay's makes a really tender yet crunchy apple fritter, a delectable cinnamon roll & cinnamon twist of cinnamony goodness, & a custard filled donut frosted in chocolate (H loves their standard fare, especially the apple fritter... did I mentioned yummy & tender apples inside the fritter? Hehehe...), classics that are well-made. Mmm... Mmm... Mmmmm!

This place sucks. You have to show up before 9 a.m or there won't be anything to pick from. The donuts that are available taste stale.

I pulled an all nighter and watched as they opened up shop, so I knew I was going to get FRESH of the FRESH bagels. I ended up trying their chocolate chip bagel with blueberry cream cheese. Maaaaaaaaaaan. This was some next level bagel stuff. It was chewy, doughy, had a good bite to it, with the smack of chocolate chips. It was spectacular. Finger looking GOOD. The cream cheese.?.?? I never steer away from plain cream cheese. But I took my chances. I put my big girl pants on and tried a new flavor. And woOoOoOowwwwyyyyy it was good. And it paired with the chocolate chip bagel so weelllllll. I've also had their tuna bagel beforehand and that one is just as good. A little different but definitely a good tuna salad bagel. 10/10 I love this location and their bagels. Location is small with very limited seating inside and outside. They have self serve coffee as well inside. Parking in the plaza.

Parking is easy. Bagels are not really proper bagels which have a chewy exterior and are boiled. These bagels are more like bread.. soft, nice bit not chewy like a NY bagel would be. They have those soft croissants that taste like there's butter in every bite (not how other places sell crusty crunchy croissants). This place is a good little spot to stop by before/after grocery shopping at the Vons next door. Or to hangout and enjoy the music while waiting on the nearby laundry mat machines to finish. Convenient location. Chai tea here is also great! Creamy and soothing. I've never had a bad item off the menu here, love this local little bakery cafe! [Parking]: The cafe is located in the same parking lot as Vons and I haven't had any issues finding available parking spots during my visits. [Atmosphere]: Nothing to write home about and the interior decor was meh. I initially thought it was a donut shop, but they mostly sell breakfast sandwiches, croissants, and cookies now. There are few tables both indoors and outdoors. [Ordering]: Order at the counter, receive a buzzer, grab a table, and pick up your order at the counter when the buzzer rings. [Menu]: They sell breakfast sandwiches, deli items, cookies (e.g. ube) and coffee drinks. Yelp's top recommendation is breakfast sandwiches. Customers need to choose a style (e.g. Original Breakfast), bread (e.g. croissant), and meat (e.g. bacon). The staff recommended the bacon breakfast croissant. For drinks, the store has a sign stating Caramel Ice Coffee, Vanilla Latte, Matcha Latte, Fruit Tea, Cream Foam Thai Tea, and Vietnamese Iced Coffee. *** Original Breakfast (meat, egg, Swiss cheese, tomato, avocado - bread = croissant + meat = bacon - $13.65): Soft croissant and I was a fan of the fillings - two thumbs up. Almond Croissant ($5.35): Interesting croissant and not what I was expecting as it had almond paste filling rather than almond slices. The bread was fluffy but a bit cold. *** Overall this is a solid café for locals to stop by. P.S. - Redondo Beach Dog Park is just around the corner.

Parking is a bit challenging as there are only 4-5 spots in the lot, but plenty of street parking both on Aviation and in the residential neighborhood. Ill start with service, the staff were was friendly but unfortunately very uncoordinated. Food would come out of the kitchen and onto the counter in different orders so within the same party, someone's sandwich would be made before another person's lettuce. This means the food got mixed up on the counter and while I was waiting, witnessed three people's orders get mixed up. Again they were nice about it but not a good system. We ordered a turkey salad and a Parisian baguette, first off my salad had a lot of old lettuce in it. The fresh ingredients tasted just ok, like low tier super market brand food. From a culinary standpoint, the salad could've benefited from sliced almonds or something crunchy. The Parisian baguette bread was very hard tough, with a decent amount of ham, but not enough spread or cheese.. The cashier did admit that they don't bake their own items instead a "fresh "delivery shows up every morning. I will not be coming back, but I wish them the best.

One of the things I haven't mentioned was that the restaurant was very crowded during my first visit. I also don't have as much experiance writing reviews at around the time when I gave the rating. But I firmly believe that the reasoning for the three star was because of my conflicted thoughts with the tasting aspect of the food, I felt that the green garden avacado toast egg sandwich which lacked in flavor along with the cinnamon muffin. So in short, I didn't really enjoy the food personally. But objectively, the experiance was very well--Which is why I am changing my rating. As I have previously mentioned on the last review--I did, however, enjoy the ambiance of the place. The decor and overall concept is quite amazing. The cafe had a contemporary vibe and the patterns were unique in a way that made it stand out. The service was also good, had no concerns regarding the staff. But to sum everything up, I do believe that a four would be a more reasonable rating than the previous. But I did decide to give the place another try and did end up enjoying it, along with understanding more about writing reviews. So I sincerely apologize for giving the place a low rating without explaining specifics.
