We're always trying different burger places when they pop up around town, and this one was on our list; we wanted to go when the building was an American cafe, but it closed down before we had the chance. I found Mack's looking for burgers on Yelp and realized it was in the same building! I love supporting local family-owned establishments on the south side, because we need more awesome places in the neighborhood! If you want to make something great, you do it from within right? So we try to spend our money right here at home. I am very pleased to say that this spot is a welcome addition to the area, and that every other side of town should be jealous. The burgers are big and juicy, generously topped, and not greasy. They actually taste healthy. (My father-in-law didn't like them for that reason, but I think he's insane! He's looking for big and sloppy, but I love this less guilty pleasure.) I ordered the blue cheese burger that was on special, and it was the best hamburger I have ever had in my life! I hope they would be able to whip it up on a different day, since my mouth waters just thinking about it. Everyone in our party liked their burger, or I would assume by the lack of leftovers. The fries and onion rings were both great too! The onion ring batter tastes handmade and even though it's fried food, they aren't too greasy either. For me it was the perfect balance between grabbing a burger and gleefully wrestling with my daily calorie limit. I rarely write negative reviews. I try to find the good even in the bad. But this is my family's worst experience. One word: sweat. No this is not a typo and I don't mean sweet. Sweat as in sweaty. One of my pet peeves and hopefully yours is sanitation. When cooking, restaurants need to be diligent in their cleanliness. We all have seen those reviews with hair or bugs in the food but this one is even more disgusting. To begin, we found this restaurant on Yelp as I believe in Yelp. The food was good tasting, not the best but more than average. Very unique burger creations. But our meal was ruined by a sweaty cook. This cook had a towel that he used to basically bathe in with his sweat. First he wiped his arms, then his forehead, back of his neck, his hands and then proceeded to grabbing raw meat, that sat out for over an hour (yes the meat is fresh never frozen, but at the same time dangerously unsanitary) to form and weigh patties. Then he repeated his bathing cycle of transferring all types of bacteria from his face (our faces have tons of bacteria FYI) Back to the rag then back to his hands and then touching the raw meat again! No gloves and no hand washing involved. When we realized he was doing this we were almost done with our meal, which cost almost $100. We told our waitress about what we saw and she ensured us that he was constantly washing his hands to his elbows to the point of blistering conditions (she obviously knows the health code but not the cook). We all saw what he was doing and he was not washing his hands in the sink unless you call wiping raw meat onto a rag that's also doubled up as a bathing towel "washing hands". The cook came out and was extremely sweaty to the point where his clothes were drenched. He was really defensive and said "would you rather me sweat in the food?" And "any bacteria is killed in the cooking process". Both were unacceptable comments and health practices. To top the cake he told the other cook to make sure we never come back. I never asked for my money back and did not make a scene. They were unapologetic and you don't have to ask us twice. We will never return. For you health's sake I highly DO NOT recommend this restaurant. For your family's safety and quality of life. read more

For a mom and pop restaurant it was awesome. The burgers were really flavorful. However my daughter ordered the chili cheese dog but couldn't finish it because the hot dog tasted nasty to her and when I tried it I realized it wasn't all beef like she is used to so I wasn't too upset. However I was disappointed that there was so much pride put into the burger and they used canned mushrooms so it wasn't as good as it could be. read more

Pretty good little place and hamburger. Will be back with friends. Order at desk and they told me to sit at table 7. Will be back to table 7. Ordered chili cheeseburger single. Asked to have lettuce and pickles. Combo with fries and tea. Chili was ok. Burger with American cheese was good by itself. Fries were good. I don't know about the double burger just a couple dollars more but may be too much for lunch. Single homemade burger was pretty good size for me. Bun was very good. Kinda looked like a Kaiser roll but very good. Ok place is small but enough seating. Table 7 was by the restroom area entrance. And you could smell it. It smelled like a urinal even though the fans were going. I would have moved but that's the table they were taking my burger to and it was my first time so next time, No Table 7. Maybe need better circulation around that area. Had to keep the napkin up to my nose to eat. Lol. No really. Didn't say anything , this time. I think i will choose to eat in the front of the restaurant. Staff was friendly. Lady taking order was nice and cook or man who brought out burger was nice as well. I was one of the first people to post about this place. Started off great when they had another cashier who wasn't awful and they cared about customers. Burgers are still the same and good, but the lady who runs the place is just rude. She shakes her head, makes rude comments, has no customer service. I have sat there and watched how she is nice to certain people and rude to others. And definitely don't bring your kids; it isn't a family restaurant if she is in charge(or there) because she will make her faces and roll her eyes. It's not worth it. This is a terrific restaurant to have a great hamburger. I had the Mad Mack Burger and it was delicious from the first to the last bite. The double patties were perfectly cooked and seasoned and absolutely juicy in a good way. I can honestly say this is one of the best hamburgers I've had in years. And I've eaten hundreds, if not thousands over the years. The buns are Texas toast grilled cheese sandwiches. Yes, grilled cheese sandwiches as the buns. It was awesome. And if that wasn't enough, Bacon and two giant onion rings. Stop reading and get to the front of the line and order a burger and prepare to fall in love. I'll admit, I was a bit turned off by the outside look of the establishment. However, upon entering we were greeted by such friendly staff. We were a big group (9 total) and they were very patient with our order. We trusted the Yelp reviews and they held true. Great burgers at a great price! Just down the street from the Mission Drive-in movie theater on Roosevelt, sandwiched between a tattoo parlor and a TV repair shop, this little hole in the wall burger joint is a real gem on the South Side. I had seen them on S.A. Live some time back, and made a mental note to try them out. You know how it goes, you have the best of intentions, but something always comes up, so it took us a minute to get there. Hubby and I finally got a chance to head over this afternoon, eager to see what all the hype was about. Lots of choices on the menu, from the Mad Mack (see other posts and pics for reference) to the All American (the name says it all). Hubby ordered the All American combo, and I opted for the Mushroom Swiss combo. With tax, the total was around $16.00 (holla for the cheap date!) The burgers were soooo good...big and juicy and everything you want in a melty cheesy burger. There was no conversation during the meal (save a couple satisfied grunts from hubby and a moan or two from me)...we were too busy scarfing down the deliciousness before us. Honestly, the fries were...fries. Not bad, but not outstanding. In retrospect, we agreed we should have ordered the onion rings, which looked homemade and amazing. Next time, for sure. I recommend that you grab your bestie, your kids, hell, the whole dang village, and head over here to check out this burger nirvana as soon as is humanly possible! read more

Gave this place a try with my fiancé. There's a lot of good burger joints especially on the south side of town. I had never heard of this place & we decided to give it a try. The inside of the place has a kind of throw back feel the burgers were delicious I got the double and couldn't finish it all because the patties were pretty hefty.
