There are two things about this place: 1) They are not technically a "brewing co" as they did not have any beers on the menu that they themselves make. 2) I'm not sure what they think poutine is, but their "Texas Poutine", while delicious, was not in any way, shape, or form a take on actual poutine. That being said, this place is more of a sports bar as there were games on each of the screens and they seemed to have their regular crowd. They had a decent selection of local beers on tap from the $5 and up per pint range. Their menu was basically pizzas, which looked good, but I wasn't sure I could eat an entire 10" pie, so I went for their posted special of "Texas Poutine". What this turned out to be was a sort of amalgamation of sausage bits, sliced potatoes in gravy that had a chili kick to it. It was tasty, but was definitely not poutine as there were no cheese curds that I could see, the potatoes were more of the sliced baby red variety rather than fries, and the gravy was more light than the dark that is usually found on poutine. The staff was nice, offered to make beer suggestions based on my preferences and I was attended to quickly sitting by myself at the bar. I don't know that I would be back as there is so much to explore in the SA brewery scene, but I could appreciate this place for what it was and what it wasn't. read more

Mad Pecker Brewery has been my go too for a quick bite to eat with a few beers for a few months now. From Kayla, Calyn, Dakota, Rebecca, Jason. They are all extremely knowledgeable in the different types and different kinds of beers they offer. From flights to burgers and pizza. It's definitely become a household name, when trying to decide if/what we would like for dinner. Beers are well poured and never disappoint. Our regular Kayla, is super friendly, she remembers her customers. She remembers what they like and is always super friendly. So I'm typically a very healthy eater and that includes when I eat out. Recently, I found myself spending a few days in San Antonio and though there were plenty of healthy options , I decided to try the Mad Pecker- half because the pics of food on yelp were intriguing and looked delicious and the other half I wanted something local that I couldn't eat at in Austin - and let's all admit - the name Mad Pecker totally worked. Maybe it's psychological projection - maybe it's overcompensation - but most likely it was pure intrigue and interest that brought me to the Mad Pecker. And I am soooooo glad I did. The atmosphere is simple and unassuming. It's dark and a bar. That's simply what it is with a few remnants of 90s arcade video games and a plethora of regulars attending the bar. My groups ordered burgers , pretzels, and the fries with macaroni and more on it. Everything was honestly so dang good. Maybe it's because of the beer cheese - the chefs definitely include this deliciousness on almost every recipe but they do it in interesting ways. And it works. Over the past week or two since I was there - it's the meal I craved the most. What's interesting , is where I usually eat healthy so a meal of high carbs and dairy can make me sick- this didn't at all. Maybe the quality of ingredients , maybe just sheer will power internally because the food was that amazing.... I don't know. So what do I know - the food is awesome , unique, and definitely will be back whenever in San Antonio. Second , the people and service is superb and friendly. Not the typical bar feel... much friendlier than I expected and they really care about the place. They also take a lot of pride in their work. Yes! Yes! Yes! And yeeeesssss! Went Saturday night. Promptly greeted as we walked in the door. Found a spot to squat in front of the big tv and waited to see what the place was about. I got up to go see what was on draft and the beer-tender was very knowledgeable. He gave me a quick run down of what they had and what each would taste like. Gave me some samples and I was able to decide. The server was pretty cool. She had just started but has a fabulous personality and seemed like she belonged. Definitely. She was friendly and funny. The perfect fit. Then we got to the menu. So they have these French fries that they put shells and cheese on. Omgosh. Those things were amazing!!! Who thought of that??? Oh yeah! The Mad Pecker!!! Good job Pecker guy. They were definitely tasty. Also tried the wings and they were good as well. The bathrooms were very very clean. I was actually quite surprised. Nice brewery with decent food. The service was outstanding as I never had to ask for anything. We came in on a very slow night so the vibe was super chill. The beers were hit or miss. I had three and one was really bad. The burger was solid and we upgraded the fries to have the cheese and macaroni. I probably would just stick to the regular fries. Are you frapping kidding me? I've never reviewed Mad Pecker? That is nutz! I LOVE this place. I have been going there since it first opened its doors. This is what I love about Mad Pecker: 1) Best changing collection of craft beers on this side of town. I could go there every day and still find a beer on tap that I have never had. I try to only drink "new to me" beers. Since I started using the Untapped app, I have logged 572 unique beers. Mad Pecker accommodates my OCD behavior quite nicely. 2) Mad Pecker brews some pretty damned good beer. My favorite is La Lechuza. I also liked Kawhi-et Night (probably botched that spelling). I asked if they were going to rename it. A server recently told me it was the La Lechuza. I keep forgetting to ask the owner. I thought La Lechuza was already on the boards before it. 3) The owner is a great guy. My wife was his daughter's fourth grade teacher. Teachers know good families. This is one. The owner's son is one of my favorite servers. 4) The servers are fantastic friendly people who can help you pick a beer, but will leave you to pick your own if that's your style. No judgement. My favorite server has always been Reynaldo. Why? I don't know. He's been there from the start. He is always really nice. He even shakes my hand when I come in. But, they are all great. 5) I like pint night. I used to go faithfully. Then the glasses started to accumulate. I simply don't need anymore. (Any rumors about my wife saying I can't bring any more beer glasses home are... Okay, it's true. But, I would bring more home if I really wanted to... and hide them somewhere so she doesn't see them.) 6) The food? People I am a FAT MAN! When I tell you that Mad Pecker Fries are a fat man's dream, I know what I am talking about. I don't know who came up with them. I don't see any truly fat folks working there. Regardless, the person who developed Mad Pecker Fries is definitely in tune with his or her inner fat man. Then I found out I could have them in place of regular fries with my burgers- OMG! The angels in heaven broke out in a holy chorus. Unfortunately, I am eating differently these days. Getting to order food at Mad Pecker is now a rare treat. I usually only drink beer. 7) Grandma. I don't know her name, but the owners mother comes in a lot. Why do I care? There is something about the demeanor of a proud momma that makes all of us who no longer have a momma feel good just by being in her presence. I have never spoken to her. She wouldn't know me if she saw me, but I always enjoy seeing her there, beaming that "proud mommaness" at everyone. 8) Geeks Who Drink Trivia on Wednesday Nights. It was me, who recommended it to the owner. He said he would look into it. He did! I am ashamed to say that I have only gone twice since they started it up. None of my working friends want to go on a work night. I am an old geezer who is in his jammies by then. Plus, I am almost always out of town camping somewhere. 9) Last one- location, location, location. I haven't, but I could walk home if I ever had to. Mad Pecker is exactly 2.3 miles from my house. However, I usually adhere to a 2 beer limit, so driving is not an issue. If you like beer, come give the place a try. My only two complaints: 1) They really need to improve on the "non beer" options for my "non beer drinking" wife. and 2) I wish I could go for a beer at about 1:00 PM during the week when everyone else is working. Let's be clear - I was already several drinks in by the time we made it here. The main goal - my friend knew the guys behind the bar, and wanted to continue to show off the awesome local craft beer scene. And wings. There was another wing place that one of the guys brought wings in from - so we could compare Mad Pecker's wings with the other wings. Now - I've read the other reviews about the food - from good burgers to standard pub far - but we had beer cheese and chips and wings and it was all just so damn delicious. We were looking for something different tonight and found it. The food was delicious! We went for the Messy Pecker Fries as an appetizer. Who knew mac n cheese on fries??!! Hubby had the Madchos and couldn't finish them all. I had the pork and pineapple tacos. The flavor was amazing and hit the spot. And our picky 14 yr old daughter got the beer cheese fondue bacon burger and polished it off. She NEVER finishes off anything!! (She didn't touch her fries though). I would give no stars... Not the best! I was invited by some friends to go try the beer, grab a bite but I highly do NOT recommend dining here. The server who helped our table was so FCKN rude!!!!! She had such a horrible attitude, VERY slow and it was not busy AT ALL!!! She was taking her time, I think she even forgot to put in our order due to her talking too damn much to the other girls. Food was decent, beer was pretty tasty, but the girl who helped me, I think her name was Jordan, was just downright rude. So apathetic and inattentive, i felt like i was being pranked or something. I tried to work with her and cut her some slack, but i wouldve had to get some service to work with. If you don't wanna do your job, why not give up your shift to someone who does, because this was a really bad look for an otherwise decent brewery. Probably wont be back. read more

Looking for a local dive with a real kitchen (not that frozen Sysco stuff)???? Look no further. The fresh cut fries are delicious!!!!! The burgers are hand made... my advice - ask them to go easy on the salt. The chef had a real real heavy hand. You can always add more if you need it, but if there is too much there isn't much you can do. They have a great selection of craft beers and are happy to let you sample them so you can find something you like. Ray was our bartender and he was friendly and attentive. This is a pretty cool, laid back spot to grab some brews and food. The staff here are really friendly and helpful. All the taps are rotating, but there is a very good selection of beers to fit anyone's taste. They have a menu of all the available beers on draft on a TV screen above the bar. They also have specials throughout the week. Happy M-F. 4-7. We came on Friday night and they had a special for $6 pick your own flight of 4 beers. This was a good deal, especially for being our first visit here. As for food we ordered pizza and it was very tasty! I'm curious to try their other food offerings. For being a bar, they have a pretty decent food menu. There's plenty of big screens around so this would be an ideal place if you want to get out to watch the Spurs game. Mad Pecker is a great addition to the neighborhood. We will definitely be back. read more
