Everything was just excellent. Menu is small which is probably why everything was perfection. The fries are hand cut, perfectly seasoned, and delicious. My mushroom burger was outstanding. The meat was fresh, not a frozen patty, and spot on. The pretzel bun made the perfect complement. Best burger I have had in a while. My husband enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich which, again, seemed hand prepared. The atmosphere is typical bar, but a little more family friendly. The acoustics were good so that we good enjoy our conversation without straining to hear. Super friendly and attentive servers made this a top notch dinner. Go and get Mike as a server. He hasn't been wrong at all on beer recommendations or the food. The mad pecker fries and the breadsticks with a side of the beer cheese fondue are killing it as appetizers. Waiting for the main course orders meow but I am certain that they will knock it out of the park as well. I always try to find new beers to try and the Mad Pecker brews are amaze balls as well as the other drafts they have on tap are great choices. You can't go wrong at this place and Mike is greatly knowledgeable and affable. Kudos to the cook for the French fries with Mac and cheese/bacon and chives(holy hell its good). I've lived in the area all my life and was one of the first to try this place out when it first opened. Beer and food here was amazing. Servers not so much. Usually you see them taking breaks on patio or only serving people they know and avoiding new comers. Also my absolute favorite was their wings. They were so amazing and the best around. However over the past year the wings have shrunk down to half the original size yet the prices have stayed the same. They went from the best wings around town to the tiniest wings around town. Visiting San Antonio for the first time and searched for a place to get a good hamburger. Found this place, the mushroom burger was delicious. But what sealed the deal was the appetizers. I'm a huge fan of any local businesses that are making craft beer more available to folks, especially in the Northwest side of town where options for craft beer were lacking extensively! We went on opening day and operations seemed to be running pretty smoothly for being the first day open to the public. I'm sure some of the operational things will smooth out as time goes on. Everyone was really nice though and kept checking in on us to make sure we were ok. The bartender noticed us when we first got there so he was acting double duty as waiter and bartender but, he was great. They had some pretty decent beers on tap, and more than I expected. Nothing was completely new and standout interesting to me but they had at least one beer from every local brewery here in SA, and a few of the staples from surrounding cities: Guadalupe Honey Ale, Power and Light from Independence, a few from Real Ale, and various others; as well as a few good staples: Brooklyn Brown, Dogfish Head Sixty one minute, Stone IPA, Left hand milk stout...you get my drift. I didn't see any of their beers on tap but, I know they are coming and am looking forward to trying them. I know it's summer but, I really would have liked to see stouts and porters get a little more love on the menu of what was offered. Overall, I was able to find something good to drink and I think they are on the right track and that their selection will grow as time goes on. One thing I do think they should reconsider however is the price of their beer. My boyfriend had a green flash IPA and it was priced at $6.50. I had the Brooklyn brown that seemed a little high at around $5.50-$6, and the Ranger Creek redheaded stranger was priced about $6.50 range. We are regulars at Big Hops and other craft brewpubs, and in comparison the prices seemed a little high. For food we ordered a 12" veggie pizza and the homemade hummus. The pizza was really tasty; you could tell the crust was homemade and the veggies were really fresh. My hopes are that they offer other sizes in the future because if you wanted to order 2 @ $16 I do not think the value would be there. Come down on the small pizza price and offer larger sizes, and it's a homerun. My boyfriend enjoyed the sriracha and red pepper hummus but I wasn't the biggest fan and would probably not order it again unless the recipe changed a little, and the pita bread that accompanied it. I am really happy that we have a neighborhood craft beer joint in the area now. I'm excited for Mad Pecker and hope it does really well and brings some other local "cool" businesses to the area. I think with a few small changes, this place could become one of our go-to favorites. And if they added a happy hour...now we're talking. read more

I'm so glad that the far west side has a spot like this. MP has about 18-20 beers on draft, and they are always changing. No domestics on draft here, just delicious craft beers. The bartenders are awesome. Very informative, encouraging their guests to "try!" new beers. They also have dozens of beers in bottle. Their menu consists of bar food, pizzas, sandwiches and snacks. We've tried the pizzas and they are pretty good. The outside patio only has a few picnic tables and it's pretty much right in front of the parking lot. That's pretty much the only thing I don't love about this place. AND..... it's kid and family friendly!!! Craft beer and sense of community in my 'hood, makes me a very happy beer drinker. read more

Mad Pecker's has a down to earth vibe and lacks the pretensions other places have. The decorations are sparse, but they have multiple TVs set up around inside. I went at around 4:30 PM and parking wasn't an issue. There weren't very many people in there at that time, but there seemed to be more than enough seating to accommodate a large number of people. The staff was friendly and attentive; within moments of sitting down at the bar, someone came over. I'm not from San Antonio and am unfamiliar with the brews in the area, but he was able to help me pick one easily. I told him I normally drank Dos Equis and he recommended the Bombshell Blonde. His recommendation was spot on. As for food, he recommended their burger, which I also found to my liking. It was served medium-rare, so if you like a well done burger you should probably make that clear. The food took a bit to get to me, but the wait wasn't intolerable. It was an above average bar burger, and the fries were great, too. The only thing I'd say to watch out for is the construction traffic that can sometimes make it difficult to get into their parking lot. The head guy is pretty active and affable without being in your face. If you have a problem or concern, I'd say to bring it up to him because he's a rather agreeable guy. If you come in there, count on talking to him at least once; you can tell he values delivering good service, and that quality definitely rubs off on his employees. Overall, I think Mad Pecker's earned a solid 4. I think they have a solid foundation to build on for the future, and should definitely begin to look at improving the look of the place. If you're looking for a variety of local beers and great bar food, Mad Pecker's has it and the staff will ensure you have a good experience. read more

A local restaurant with great food and incredible booze. I had the pizza and while it was fine fresh, it was just good (from Chicago, don't take this personally). I probably should have went with one of the burgers. Now, let me redeem the pizza. I took half of it back to my hotel for later. Reheated the pizza was better than it was fresh, I cannot explain why. I think it was due to the pizza still cooling on the table and the dough/crust not being very Girl to support the pizza, it was a goopy, but tasty, mess at the table. I also had one of their local beers, a blonde I recall, it was divine. If they could figure out that pizza conundrum then they can have that last star for a five star review. read more

A coworker told me about this place and I decided to try it after recently relocating here from Maryland. I made it for happy hour and the waitress was perfect in offering her selection of beer. I asked about happy hour specials and was pleased when two generously filled tacos came out. Great service and a great beer. Could not have asked for more during a happy hour. 4 solid stars mostly because the burger and fries I ordered were piping hot when served. Kudos to the kitchen staff and the server who must have been on the ball to get that food to me quick. Freshly cooked food that is served hot will always propel average food to above average status.
