Traveling for work and I LOVE finding what the locals find...and love! Having not eaten all day, I wanted something tasty AND filling. Well, I found my heaven for the evening. A. Mad Pecker is fun to say. Period. B. It's such a groovy place. It's torn between dive bar and gastropub. I could definitely get down here as a regular. I started off with an Alamo Beer Co Coffee Milk Stout. It's a meal in itself and delicious. Delicious, I say! Had some fried mushrooms which came midway through my beer and honestly, weird to say, but the fried mushrooms are amazing! My next beer was another stout and I forgot the name but, it was equally sweet, rich, creamy...just bangin. During that, my bacon Mac n cheese came. Bartender asked if I wanted pulled pork on it. Seriously? Of course! Mac n cheese was ridiculous! Like, cheesy, gooey, creamy, delicious! After that, on Thursday's apparently they have a local brewery swing by with a few beers, order it, keep the glass. Sweet! Souvenirs. So why not get a Viva! American Ale?! We had the pleasure of going to Mad Pecker Brewing for an early dinner. The ambiance was great. Very chill and comfortable with good music. The service was very friendly, enthusiastic, and fast. We shared a half order of Madchos with pulled pork and jalapeños and an order of fried pickles. Then we ordered Jalapeño Bacon Jammin burgers. For drinks I got the Vanilla Bean Hard Cider and my husband got the Breakfast Stout. The Madchos were good. Pretty standard nachos with light and crispy restaurant style chips. The jalapeños were fresh and not pickled. The pickles with spicy ranch were fantastic. The burgers were epic! They were nice and crispy without being thin or dry. A nice balance of what I like between smash burgers and traditional burgers. They are the burgers I've been searching for since I moved to San Antonio years ago. The Vanilla Bean cider was so good. Soft and sweet, it smelled like a cream soda. It's definitely a good gateway drink for those who don't drink often. The Breakfast Ale was pretty strong and tasted like coffee and chocolate. We came for dinner on a Monday and were greeted right away. They put some tables together for us since we had a large party and it's a pretty small place. They have a good beer selection and it was $2 off appetizers. We ordered fried mushrooms, a pretzel and fried cheese sticks. They all were good and the pizza looked good too. Good selection, nice staff and the place was clean. They didn't bring us silverware with the food and our waters kept running out but other than that, great place to watch a game and hang out with friends. read more

Our favorite local brewery: We have passed the place a few times and finally decided to have a lunch date there. Beer selection was great! A good amount of house brews and other local brews. We had some wings, the mad pecker Mac and Cheese and their new Hawaiian Burger. Delicious . Never got to try out the drinks or the food, if I was the business owner I would have fired the waitress on the spot if I had overheard how she treated and spoke to a brand new customer. Me and my wife walked in about 20-30 minutes after they had "opened". To our surprise there was nobody inside so we patiently stood there a moment to make sure they were open. The waitress saw us come in but did not acknowledge or greet us. She stood around behind the bar as we continued to stand at the front very confused. I politely asked "Do we seat ourselves? We weren't sure if you are open yet this is our first time." In which the server replied "Yeah unless you want me to pick one out for you to sit at if you can't figure it out" and then walked back into the back room. That one comment of disrespect was enough to lose my business and earn this review. That was no way to speak to anybody let alone brand new customers. We ordered the following: Fried pickles- nice thick deli pickles with a batter. These are probably one of the best that I have tried. Make sure to order Pizza- full of toppings and thin/crispy crust. It is a decent looking place in a bad part of town. It looks like a dive bar. When we went it was seat yourself but in a very empty restaurant. A lot of tables were reserved. Never did get to try the food. Husband and I left due to them having no menus and still relying on outdated QR codes for menus. It's amazing a place like this cannot even have a paper menu. This is a great place to hang out on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Not too busy, but not dead either. It's actually very spacious. In addition to the seven Mad Pecker brews they have on tap, they have about 10 other craft brews on tap, and more than 50 different canned or bottled beer choices. Typical bar food choices, but they have plenty to choose from. Most of the appetizers hover around the $5 price point. They also have burgers, sammiches, and pizza. Most of the burgers and sammiches are around $10 but come with fries. On Sunday afternoons, they only have one bartender who also doubles taking food orders and serving the tables. They offer flights of four, but the price varies depending on which brews you select. The highest you would pay would be around $12 - just depends on what you choose. Pro Tip: The building faces Timber Path, not Tezel Rd. where Google Maps takes you. I parked and wandered around looking for it and ALMOST left until I realized there was another side to the strip center. :) As much as I enjoy the cool vibe and atmosphere of this hangout, I have to remove a star because their draft beers just aren't cold enough (and that's VERY important). This place was just okay. We won't return.... our server Marlyna didn't seem very interested in being our server. We had to get the attention of another server twice just to request our food order be taken. By the end we were ready to leave, and we had to get up to get our check and boxes due to the server being at the bar talking for more then 15 before even looking over towards us. The wings were okay- Gold Feather was better. the fried pickles were interesting- Pluckers is way better. the best part was the poutine fries- but it was my first time ever having them so. The biggest shout out to our server Mike W. Mike was incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and friendly. My friend Jenn and I decided to come to Mad Pecker for a much needed Ladies' Night Out and it was our first time there. She's more of a craft beer fan than I am, and she was incredibly impressed by the house beer, food, and atmosphere. (I was, too!) Mike let us have a 6-beer flight of the house beer (5 oz each) and explained each one in great detail. We knew right off the bat which ones we'd end up preferring. I'm a malty gal who likes stouts, porters, and english ales. Jenn's the IPA queen. The hoppier, the better. We each found our perfect beer, mine being Mad Pecker - A Stout Called Quest and Jenn favoring the Great Northwest IPA. Bitter Soul - tasted like your average Bud or Miller Lite. A decent gateway beer, one everyone would probably enjoy, from Grandma to your kid sister. Emerald Valley Pale Ale - a little more hoppy but still light and refreshing. The Commons - Mmmm malty and British. It was my second favorite of the flight. Great Northwest IPA - Not my cuppa, but if you like IPAs it's a solid choice. Lechuza Negra - A dark ale lovechild with the hoppiness of IPA and maltiness of a stout. It was very smokey, walked the line between roasty and liquid smoke. A Stout Called Quest - Perfection. Malty, creamy, oatmealy, chocolately. For dinner I had the mac & cheese with bacon, and shelled out the extra $2 for pulled pork and . . . that was completely and utterly divine. As I type this I have the leftovers sitting in front of me tempting me with that cheesy, porky scent. It will likely be gone before bed. Aside from the great food and eclectic beer, I have to bring it back home to our server Mike. No stars if I could. Really cool concept on this side of town but this place is lacking SO MUCH. you walk in and have no idea if you're supposed to seat yourself. Don't bother asking questions about the menu when one of the waitstaff finally approaches, she'll just tell you to scan the menu & she'll be back. After you've navigated their 19th century wordpad menu you still need to flag her back down anyway. We ordered 2 beers and asked if their fried mushrooms were fresh or frozen. Her response was "Fresh" in the most unappetizing way to speak to another human that I've ever encountered in my life. We would probably give this place another chance for eat in or pickup, but probably not again through delivery. They were out of the pretzel which I was looking forward to :( so we replaced it with fish and chips. They also didn't include our drinks (but you never know if that's the restaurant or delivery person, so may not be their fault.) The fish and chips came with what looked like someone forgot to put fries on and hastily added like 7-10 fries... what was there was okay though, a little greasy for me. They forgot to include the tartar sauce so I didn't eat much of the fish and chips. The battered fish was tasty but again a bit greasy... (but it's bar food so you can't be too picky.) The meat pizza was pretty good, it was crispy and had good flavor, but we've had better for sure. I will say the Mac and cheese was fabulous, but is a small size which I was expecting as it's more of an appetizer. Overall there were some high points, but too many low points to try delivery again (at least of the same dishes). Maybe if there's a next time we will eat in or pickup. read more

I like this place fir any dish they make with pulled pork. I usually get the nachos with it. The beer is good and a decent selection but what they have is quality and usually higher in abv. Tenet rotate constantly. This is the place where I had my first peanut butter beer, an inertial stout at 9%. Yum! It's rarely crowded unless you go at a peak hour. And it's easy to go to. Shame on the legacy soccer group for taking over a BREWERY with all the kids. The staff was very patient in light of the situation. Most of us adults were in a rush to get out of here due to the large amount of children in a BREWERY. I am a HUGE fan of anything that involves liquor being 18+ but that is not the case here in Texas. I love Mad Pecker and their staff is always awesome but it's unfortunate that this soccer group chose a bar (as stated by one of their coaches) instead of a Chuck E. It was an excellent experience. Initially I found out about mad pecker at a beer festival with my boyfriend and thought to try it out. Entering the place was great, the music isn't blaring, it's relaxing and nice. Our server Tabitha was amazing, she was kind and attentive. I've been enjoying Mad Pecker since way before Covid. Living in the neighborhood make it my go-to for a pint of excellent house-made beer and a tasty bite from the back. While the bar always has a wide variety of craft beers, I stick to the house mostly - Cosmic Rye, Cool Pool, Bitter Soul, and the Ripper are some of my favorites.
