We came across this bakery a couple months ago. We've been visiting Madison Park for years and surprisingly never tried this place. Our first impressions were strong. The place was packed (a line out the door) but they were very quick in getting orders placed and fulfilled. It reminded me of a family bakery I used to go to when I was little. The doughnuts were very good. There were a number of savory looking treats in the cases that we had to exercise restraint not to order. We will most likely come back here next time we are over by the lake. read more

Some friends and I were in search of bottled water before hitting the grassy "beach" at Madison Park, so we stopped by this place. I figured, since we're in a bakery, I'll get a cookie for a snack. And I ended up with a very small, very dry, very flavourless chocolate chip cookie. Seriously, expired bricks of Tollhouse cookie dough made out of desperation at 3am produced better cookies than this. The two staffers gave me the impression of someone who was rejected from a sweet summer gig at a country club. Neither of them made pretenses about how much they hated a group of twentysomethings from the other side of the University Bridge trespassing on their pristine Madison grounds. Sorry, you sell subpar cookies for a living, so take your frosty-tipped fake-tanned attitude elsewhere. I'll buy my bottle of Safeway water at Safeway next time. read more

Two weeks ago, I ordered two cakes. One for noon, one for 3p. I got the noon cake around 12:30 today. When I picked it up the baker acknowledged I had two and that the other would be ready at 3p. It was just ok, but did the trick. I returned at 3:30. First, I waited for 15 minutes before anyone even said hello. This was with me holding my cc by the register. Second, the baker came out from back and asked what I wanted. I said I was here for a cake pick up and gave her my name. She went in back. Several minutes later she came forward and this is, verbatim, what she said "I don't have your cake. [glacing at my 7yo, who is instantly in tears as it's her birthday] I was thinking it was a Sunday. I can have it ready in 20 minutes." Aside from none of that making sense, where was the "I'm so sorry." She just stood there frowning. I continued to talk to her, and she continued to mouth back. Finally I said, "your attitude SUCKS!" And yes, I yelled that last word. What did she say? "Look who sucks now." And started laughing. Shame on you Madison park bakery. I think here on out, we will find another shop to patron. read more

Everything behind the glass counters looks amazing. The iced cinnamon rolls and pecan and raspberry mini rolls are musts for treating yourself and/or others. Go early though or you'll miss out. 10:30 AM on a Saturday and I got the last 2 iced cinnamon rolls. They are now open on Sundays too! read more

This place is unfortunately right next to a running course my friend and I like - so often we end up with a cupcake after running. The cupcakes are good - I can't get myself to try anything but the chocolate because it is THAT good. And the donuts...oh the donuts...quite possibly the best I've ever had. The donuts itself are fantastic. It's not very sweet, and their plain old fashioned is custard-y and rich. The plain ol' glazed is vun-da-ful. Simplicity at it's finest. The cupcakes are delightful. Vanilla coconut is my go-to. Prices are reasonable and match the quality. read more

We have been to this bakery many times...mind you, we drive very far to go. I love bakeries, grew up in them - my dad was one of the best bakers around. So they're nostalgic for me. We had family in from out of town and made the drive to my "favorite" bakery. What a disappointment. I'm not sure I've ever received such poor service. Not only from the owner/manager, but the dark headed (curly hair) woman. I'm not sure which one was ruder. It's a bakery for sh*tsakes. I worked at my dads bakery every summer and absolutely loved watching pure joy shine across everyone's face the moment they walked through the front door. Sadly to say, we will never return again, nor speak highly of this bakery again. It's time for the owner to sell bc it's incredibly obvious she hates her job. Her employee as well. For many years now I have been going periodically to this gem of a bakery in Seattle's Madison Park neighborhood. My favorite are their jelly donuts: well-filled, just the right amount of stickness, nice heft, and not too sweet. Perfection in a donut! Other things are good too. The taste alone is cardiac causing sweetness in your mouth! There is no artificial flavoring or unnatural ingredients here, which is why it tastes so sinfully good. Many people who have savored this bakery choose it for their wedding cake, as will I. My family finds obscure mediocre holidays as an excuse to get a cake from here. They can dozens of designs. However, this flavor comes at a cost. A single doughnut can be over 2 dollars, so be advised. Personally, I'm not a fan of their cookies, I find them hard and the flavor is not my cup of tea, but my family loves them, and everyone loves the cakes/doughnuts. read more

So fresh and sweet! The Madison Park Bakery is a small gem in MadPark! Every morning pastries/sweets (cupcakes, donuts, cookies, rolls, breads, cakes, brownies,etc) are made from scratch with no preservatives. My faves are their gooey maple bars, old fashioned donuts, pecan cinnamon rolls and loafs of cinnamon bread. Not to mention, their oh-so- addicting Tillamook cheese rolls! It's always a treat to walk in and see the new seasonal items too and take it all in. As a small family owned/runned business, the owners and staff are so warm and friendly. Always greet newbies (I'm very much one) and regulars with a smile and plenty of patience when it comes to undecided or curious folks---like myself. Oh, and since moving here I've made sure to order bday cakes from them. They are always so fresh- though they always have daily made ones, i tend to order ahead of time so I can be more specific about which filling or frosting to have :) oooh the possibilities. The location is such a treat too. Right across from a beautiful park and next to a few small stores and restaurants. Major plus: Free Street Parking (though in the summer its practically impossible to park in MadPark). The place itself has a couple of small tables and chairs inside and outside. read more

Love it! The croissants / ham-and-cheese croissants are so delicious and buttery and so well-made. The cake and cupcake were yummy, too!

I work in the neighborhood, and have been by a couple of times. Their danishes, pan au raisin (like a cinnamon roll but with raisins), cookies, and ham and cheese croissants are all good! All have satisfied my cravings. I have bought the cupcakes for people's birthdays and they all love their softness and rich icing. The owner and employee of the bakery are all pretty sweet people. My gf and I walked into the bakery. No other customers. Two employees. Neither employee made eye contact, greeted us, or even acknowledged we were in the store. Stopped in for a doughnut and had a hunch that the Pumpkin Bread would be good and I was more than right....it's amazing!!! My favorite place to buy a cake to celebrate (or not) is from this bakery. The cakes are delicious. The chocolate chocolate with raspberry filling is my favorite. This bakery takes me back to the bakeries in my small town in the Midwest. It's just like my childhood bakery where my dad would pick up chocolate eclairs on his way home from work. The quality of their donuts and custard filled eclairs is right up there with the best bakeries in Green Bay, WI (where those Germans have been perfecting their baked goods for generations.) They also have a wonderful selection of cookies and bars - I love the thumbprint cookies and lemon bars. Order their cakes for birthday parties! This is a review of the service, not the products. The service tainted the taste of our yummy pastries. My sister came up from Portland, OR to visit. Mom used to take us to the Madison Park Bakery as kids so this has been a special destination to us for years. With many kids in tow and happy sisters, we picked whatever looked good - pastries, espresso, donuts. The bill was around $30.00. As we began to leave, I asked for ice for my drink. They said that they had to charge $0.75. I only had a credit card and didn't want to charge it. Instead of just smiling and giving me a cup of ice, they spent a couple minutes explaining their policy of charging for it. So they are not really customer-oriented, they are a more bottom line shop. This is *not* the bakery we grew up visiting. Disappointed. read more

I came to this bakery on a whim today with a friend. Arrived at 3:30 and found the stores as fresh as if they'd just been made. The glazed old fashioned donuts? Seriously, never had any as good as these. I chatted up the waitress (?? what are they called in a bakery??) and she said they had been using the same recipe for over 70 years. She may have even said 80, but all I could think about was the donut in hand. Very friendly. Very yummy. And she even said I could use their personal bathroom - which was very clean. We bought a loaf of bread and it was inedible. It smelled and tasted undercooked - doughy in taste and texture.

Have always had a good experience here but today was an exception. I'd guess a big part of their business involves kids, and so I was surprised when I asked them to make a lower sugar cake that they refused. I'll go to PCC instead. Missed opportunity for them since it's for a 14 (local) family party. I guess they are busy enough to not do custom work. read more

We ordered our wedding cake from Madison Park Bakery. They were wonderful at our test tastings, and the final cake we chose, white cake with salted caramel buttercream and espresso filling, was their suggestion and our delight! They were also very flexible about our payment when the due date fell on a very traffic-heavy day and were nice enough to spare us the hassle of fighting the crowds on that particular day. Additionally, they gladly sold us a sheet cake of the same flavor as our display cake so we could feed all of our hungry guests on a budget. We would like to end this review though, by stating the most important thing, the cake was delicious. It is always a little disappointing when you see a beautiful cake and the flavor doesn't match - no worries here! We both went back for another slice after we ate the one we had cut because one simply wasn't enough! read more

I just had to come here and right a RAVE review after the amazing experience I had with Madison Park Bakery. My husband and I planned a gender reveal party, to announce our unborn baby's gender to family and friends by cutting a cake that would be make pink or blue inside. Even we didn't know the gender. We went to another well known bakery in Seattle (Larsens Bakery in Greenwood) 2 months in advance. Everything seemed perfect. Long story short, 2 days before our party of 25 people, that bakery screwed up and didn't even offer to make us a cake or suggested any way of helping us. We were left stranded with no cake last minute thanks to their poor customer service... After calling seattle bakeries for 4 hours, I called Madison Park Bakery at closing time. I spoke to a very cheereful and sweet woman, Kristen whom I believe is the manager. She listened to my sob story and immediately let me know that she would help and that my cake would be made on time! I was soooo excited! Sure enough, the day of the party we picked up a BEAUTIFUL cake, made exactly to the image we had provided!!! Not only was the cake absolutely gorgeous, but every single guest at our party raved about how delicious it was! Even our guests who don't eat sweets and aren't "cake people" ate seconds and thirds! Kristen was able to save our party and the cake was the center piece of our magical day. Great food, nice, clean and quiet, chatty workers, happy, nice space.

The baked goods are fine, but this place is mighty disorganized. My husband ordered three pies for Thanksgiving. When he went to pick them up the day before Thanksgiving, they told him that the pumpkin pie had not been fully cooked. "Just pop it in the oven at 300 degrees for 20 minutes or so," they said. Certainly this was doable for us, but rather strange. At least they gave us the pie at half price. Several years ago, we had a more serious problem with them. Early in the week, I ordered a lemon meringue pie for a birthday event on the upcoming Sunday. On Saturday night, I arrived home to a phone message saying they had run out of lemon meringue and could not make the pie. This left me seriously in the lurch, as we were scheduled to leave early the next morning on the birthday outing (skiing). They need to get their act together. read more

This bakery has a wonderful history. Great baked goods, even if it is terribly overpriced. My biggest complaint is the staff are not very nice to the customers. May be that they are overworked. I've been getting cakes here for years, and my kids are always amazed and impressed. The more details you provide, the better they do -- but they always come up with something that makes the kids happy, and made me a great yarn ball cake for myself. We often pick up a pull-apart or cookies while we are in, and my favorite thing here is probably the apple fritter; I always swear I will only eat half, which never happens. When the shop is busy, it is chaotic, but, otherwise, I really love the baked goods and the really nice people who work here. read more
