I was looking for somewhere in the area to go to lunch with my mom that had fried fish and a friend of mine recommended Madroño. There was a 45 minute wait when I arrived but they do have little shops around to kill time. The restaurant is nicely decorated with outdoor and indoor seating. The food was PHENOMENAL. I had the churrasco and it was so soft and tasty. We also had the queso frito (not pictured because we devoured it) with tortilla for appetizer. My mom loved the fried fish and the sides. It's way better than what you'll find at the typical fritangas. This visit marked my fifth time dining here, and it never disappoints. One thing to note when planning a visit: they don't take reservations, so expect a significant wait time on weekends. We started off with the queso frito, because who doesn't love fried cheese?! It was absolutely delicious--crispy on the outside and perfectly melty on the inside. For the main course, I had the carne asada with gallo pinto and maduros. I'm not sure what cut of steak they use, but it's incredibly tender with a wonderful char. Top it off with their chimichurri and IT'S OVER!!! While there aren't too many great places to eat in the Sweetwater area, Madroño is a standout. If you're in the area, make sure to stop by. You'll love it! read more

This is probably one of the few restaurants that I could eat at multiple times per week and be ecstatic about it each and every time. They sometimes have a long wait but it's very much worth it. They provide outstanding customer service and excellent food. Their staff is so attentive and polite. You really get the white glove treatment here. My go to- Churrasco Nicaragüense - Center cut tenderloin steak, it's served with a creamy jalapeño sauce but I always use their chimichurri instead. This steak is always juicy and so flavorful. My mouth waters just thinking of it. I get this with a side of gallo pinto and their sweet plantains which are both excellent. 5/5 ($21.99) I don't usually care for Sangria but their's is exceptionally good. I love their Queso Frito (fried cheese) and their repocheta's are great for appetizers. Their food is so good that it even tastes amazing if you take it go. So many Nicaraguan spots have cut corners and cheapened their product in recent years, I love that Madroño has not succumbed to this. My friend who is a local from Miami brought me to Madrono. This place did not disappoint. We ordered their big platter of appetizers which came with rice and beans, steak, chicken, plantains done in chip form as well as fried form, pork grind, refried beans and a chicken dip. My friend mentioned this is as authentic as it gets. The restaurant had great service and the we clean and welcoming. The prices were decent too! It was my friends birthday so we told our server and helped us celebrate by bringing out tres leches cake, and streamers and even sang him a song. All in all this place did it for me! The food and service are fantastic! The prices fr for lunch entrees are up but still reasonable. However, after many years of being a frequent customer, I will not be going back. Due to matters beyond my control, I was unable to go till recently! The lunch entrees were up in price but still reasonable. However, ordered the usual dessert without checking menu only to find on final bill that it has gone up 200%+... Then an automatic service charge (tip) of 20% and $2.95 for credit card payment. A tip is based on satisfaction determined by customer. The server loss in this case because normally I would have left more since her service was excellent but the fact that the establishment decided for me what tip should be, I felt insulted. A charge for credit card payment is another insult. As a business person the fee for credit card is an expense to the business and it should be taken into account when pricing the product. To add injury to insult, $11.75 for a dessert that normally is charged at $5 to $6 is outrageous. Madroño is a restaurant with delicious food and good service but it's not a high end Michelin restaurant for these upcharges. It's my loss because their food is delicious but as a matter of principal, I will not be going back. I've also alerted all that I have promoted this place to. Located in a strip mall, this place seems totally out of place here because of its upscale feel to it. But don't let that fool you! Food is Nicaraguan comfort food: gallo pinto (rice and beans(, tostones, churrasco, yuca, repollo, etc. The service was very friendly, unassuming and our server was helpful in describing some of the dishes. If you go with someone who has never had food from Nicaragua, you have to order the antojitos appetizer dish. It comes with a little bit of everything: yuca, tostones, beans, chips, and the list goes on. For entree, they have an extensive menu but I normally get the churrasco which is always tender. The table is set with 3 different salsas: chimichurri being the most common one. The red/orange one is the best one since it is spicy: try mixing it with the chimichurri for a different take. The table also had a dressing that was similar to the Olive Garden salad dressing that was yummy. For dessert we got a flan and a Nicaraguan tres leches. The tres leches portion was on the slightly bigger than one size and it was really good: the cake wasn't dry or mushy from all the liquid and the frosting was on point. We started with a repocheta, which is like a Nicaragua quesadilla with cream and salad on top. Then ordered the grilled fish with gallo pinto (rice and beans), sweet plantains, tortilla and fried cheese. The portion was generous and the flavor was great. The fried cheese was so good. A hidden gem in the Miami area! As a south Florida native, we already know Cuban spots are a staple but as much as I love Cuban food I have to say I'm glad this local Nicaraguan spot is officially on my radar. The food is fantastic (I've been twice in the last two weeks and that's only because I'm trying to show restraint) and the prices are unbeatable! They start you off with a basket of toasted bread and a platter of sauces to accompany your entree (a spicy red one, pickled onions and jalapeños, and chimichurri sauce). My table shared an appetizer of taquitos and they were so crunchy and delicious, especially with the beans and crema. I loved it so much I could honestly order a plate of it for myself next time. The carne asada was also perfectly cooked and incredibly juicy. They offer indoor and outdoor seating and the decor is nice enough that it could easily be mistaken for a restaurant in the Gables or downtown Miami.
