I went with Magic Movers as it was the only one recommended which could move at short notice. I was very disappointed. Communication was a problem and unfortunately I don't speak Spanish! They were very slow and ended up bringing things I didn't want in my new place and leaving lots of things I did. Now I must hire someone to correct that. I noticed when they were bringing things in that they had other boxes on top of ones marked 'fragile'. I have "Sleep Number" beds. I asked if they were familiar with setting those back up, I was told 'yes'. Obviously they didn't - they don't work. My lateral file cabinet also seems to be broken. It took them 9 hours to complete the move at a cost of almost $2500. I haven't unpacked everything but hope nothing is broken. I do not recommend this company. read more

Horrible moving company! I was so upset that I went with them. I actually wish I would have written this sooner but life happens. I hired Magic Moving to move into a short-term rental in November 2014. The people in the office seemed on top of things and the reviews were good so I thought things would be great. My husband was in a new job and wasn't able to be home so it was me and the movers. Let me preface this by saying that I had lost my job and was going through a very difficult time already. We had packed up pretty much everything except some of the kitchen so my plan was for me to pack up the remainder of the kitchen while the movers packed the boxes and furniture into the truck. We had a 2500 square foot home however, we sold most of our furniture, so there was no couch to move, no master bedroom set, only a king mattress, and my kid's bedroom sets, which consisted of a twin bed and a dresser. We also had no washer and dryer and a freezer that we had kept in the garage. The biggest items were a work bench in the garage and a two piece desk. It took them FOREVER to pack things up. I ended up putting things into the truck as well because they were taking so long. At one point I was walking boxes out and smelled weed. Now I could care less if someone smokes weed, but don't smoke it while you are packing my crap. Shortly after that, one if the guys came into the house and asked for water and guzzled it down. His cotton mouth was pretty apparent. Whatever. I'm in no mood and I'm by myself with two big guys and I just want this done already. Another hour later things are finally packed. So they tell me that they want to follow me on the freeway. Keep in mind that the time they are on the road is charged at DOUBLE time. They tell me they need to go about 50 mph. That's cool, I can handle that. We get to the two turn lanes to turn onto the freeway and naturally I get into the right turn lane. They get into the left. I thought they were following me? They are behind a bunch of cars so I go slow and maneuver so they can get behind me. They are going so slow there is no way. I was going 40 mph and they were not catching up to me. It got to the point where I was concerned for my safety and sped up. They were going 20 mph on the FREEWAY! They were clearly trying to go as slow as possible to get to the point where they would get overtime. It took them almost an hour to get from the Pittsburg/Concord border to Lafayette which should take 20 minutes going 50. Of course the offloading was horribly slow as well and I had to offload as well. We had a storage room and they just threw stuff in it. They broke and scratched several items. They went over the 8 hours so overtime was added on. I ended up owing $1500!!!!!!! I was so pissed but how am I to argue being alone with these two guys and no one else around? Usually I would be irate and go off but I was alone and just in a really bad place already and didn't have the energy. I will never ever use them again and would never recommend them to anyone EVER. $1500 for moving boxes, a freezer, 2 dressers, 2 twin beds, a desk and a workbench. I didn't pay even close to that when I moved a full 3 bedroom house with 3 bedroom sets, washer, dryer, fridge, etc. Please don't get ripped off by these people and make the same mistake I did!!!! Unfortunately I feel a need to write this review to warn anyone thinking of hiring this company to move them, go elsewhere. This was my third move with this company in 3 1/2 years. I went back with them because the first 2 moves were the best, I even requested the same men to move me the 2nd time. Since then, these movers left the company & I know why. Anyway, these were the worst men. The head mover was arrogant & a thief. He stole from me, nothing of value, & when I confronted him, he didn't even apologize and offer to reimburse me. They were also completely UNPROFESSIONAL. They moved at a snails pace so they could charge me overtime, and the 1st two moves didn't even come close to 8 hours. They did some packing for me, but WASTED materials that I paid over $160.00 for, that all ended up being recycled. When I finally reported this to the company 3 weeks after the move, it took me that long because I didn't want any trouble, NEVER got an apology, to this day. Called back twice because their supervisor never called me, and the last time while in the middle of a sentence, I was hung up on. They don't care about their clients, just the almighty dollar. Awful experience. Would give no stars if possible. 1/3 of the boxes ended up in the wrong room. 1/4 of the boxes ended up upside down or side-ways (boxes were clearly marked this side up). Moved only 5 miles from 7AM to (what was supposed to be 8PM or earlier); they finally left at 10:30PM and still failed to reassemble half of the few pieces of furniture they took apart... (including but not limited to 1/2 of our garage storage shelves they took the time to disassemble and then loaded the other half in full - huh?). Can you tell these guys were hourly? 1/2 the crew didn't understand English. The other half kept asking how much we paid for some of our stuff, which honestly made us nervous. Run away as fast as you can. Boxes marked fragile we're packed into the truck on the very bottom, and unpacked into a pile with boxes marked "heavy" on top. To note, our previous movers completed moving our items in 10 hours (vs. 15) with the same number of men and charged half as much and did not leave us with any of the problems we experienced with this company. I hired Magic Moving for a local move to storage and a long distance move from storage to Oregon. The local move went fine. The long distance move, however, was an absolute nightmare. I called the office several weeks in advance of my close of escrow to book a delivery date. Despite multiple phone calls and emails, I did not receive a 100% confirmed move date until almost TWO months after my initial request and just five days before the actual delivery! During my initial conversations with the scheduler, I explained that my house was on a very narrow street and expressed my concern that there wasn't enough room for a large truck. The scheduler told me "not to worry about it" and that "the guys would figure it out." On the day of delivery, I reminded the scheduler of my narrow street and, to my dismay, she suggested that I meet their driver at the local U-Haul location to help him choose an appropriate delivery truck. Sure enough, an hour after their scheduled arrival time, I received a call from the driver asking me to do just that. I drove over and provided the best advice I could despite the fact that they had several weeks to figure out the best sized truck on their own. The driver and his crew arrived at my home around 3:30 in the afternoon - already half a day late. As I walked over to introduce myself to the crew, one of the guys got out of his truck, extinguished his cigarette on the ground, threw the butt into my neighbor's recycling can, and then announced he would not be staying for the entire move because he had already been waiting for the driver for five hours. That's when I learned that Magic Moving does not provide their own employees for long distance moves, but instead hires subcontractors whom they do not personally vet. The subs stayed true to their word...they walked off the job halfway through, but not before damaging several of my belongings as a result of their carelessness. (I realized later that I was even "given" two additional items from someone else's delivery.) After another couple hours' delay, the driver returned with a new crew who did not finish unloading until 11:00 PM that evening. My heart went out to the driver...he did the best he could despite his office's poor planning and scheduling and the crew walk-off. After such a long and frustrating day, he had the good sense not to ask me to fill out a customer satisfaction form or do a walk-through. (Yes, I signed the 10+ page inventory checklist based on his assurance that everything had been delivered. After a 15+ hour day, I was not up to counting boxes or verifying that all my items had been delivered undamaged.) I filed a claim with Magic Moving for my damaged and missing items along with a request to provide coverage on top of their basic insurance (just 60 cents per pound of damaged goods) given the horrible experience. It has been over a month since filing my claim and, once again after reaching out multiple times, I have received no word regarding status other than my claim is under review and they will "try to expedite." I'm also quite surprised they have made no effort to pick-up and return the items that do not belong to me. Given I paid over $15k for the two moves, over $1k in extra temporary housing while waiting for a delivery date, and ended up with approximately $2k in damaged and missing items that were packed by Magic Moving, not only was this experience an absolute nightmare, it's been an incredibly expensive nightmare. I was willing to pay a premium for quality service. What I got was not worth the price. It remains to be seen whether or not Magic Moving honors my claim. Update: After posting my review on Yelp, I finally received a response from Magic Moving regarding my claim. They paid for just one third of the damages caused by their subcontractors. I think it is very telling that instead of accepting responsibility for their customers' poor experiences, they choose to personally attack and insult the integrity of those who share negative reviews on Yelp. I think their false and misleading response to my negative review perfectly illustrates their true underlying values and the type of treatment customers can expect to receive when things don't go well. I know and they know that everything I stated in my review is accurate. Shame on them for their lack of integrity and honesty. read more

DO NOT TRUST NANCY! Nancy called me back many times for an estimate and then: 1. She did not want to answer to my question by e-mail but wanted to talk on phone only. 2. She told me on phone that it was not necessary that some one from Magic Moving & Storage come to my place for an estimate ! 3. She sent me by email an agreement that just noticed a minimum of 4 hours at $159. 4. I have not received the information booklet that supposed to protect customer of people like like Nancy, she told me that I would received it the day of the moving ! 5. The day-D, the team-leader told me that I would be charged for 2 hours driving whereas their office is 7 minute away from my place. They claim it was in Vacaville (40 minutes away)... why not? Or in NYC if they want! But why should I be charged and informed about it just when they start packing ? 6. They charged me for 7 hours of packing and loading (it was fair and the movers did a good job, nonetheless) but... 7. They charged me for 5 hours for unloading at their storage place (in Vacaville) but when I moved-in it took less than 3 hours whereas movers had one floor to walk-up. So, unloading sounds really less efficient that packing with Magic Moving & Storage (I do not trust that they really needed 5 hours to do so... or they may have a problem!) 8. I have received the "Information booklet" at the same time I signed the contract which means the morning of the moving day... The booklet cleary mentioned that 2. and 3. are an inappropriate procedure (so they do not respect what the Movers Association they belong to claims) 9. The grand total was: $2890. I been noticed the moving-day that they won't charge more than $2900... but they did not mentioned unloading time only after loading the truck. So, the bill goes up from minimum 4h hours at $159 the week before the moving when Nancy send me an agreement to 14 hours about which I have been informed when the truck was loaded! I have send a e-mail requiring some clear explanations from a manager... ten days later I did received any email or call. So be aware of their unclear billing process because you won't have any control on the way they add hidden expenses. Their first agreement draft let think that it will cost the average price you can found on the internet $1200-1400 but it costed me $2900 ! read more

I was searching for a BBB Accredited moving company, and found "Movers "N" Shakers Moving & Storage" in Walnut Creek. I went to its website and requested a contact to set up an estimate for my long distance move. Since my move is 250 miles, though in state, it is classified as long distance by California PUC. I receive a call from Nancy from "Magic Movers" and learn from her that this is an affiliated company. This is a red flag for me immediately. Nancy then asks me questions I expected : the size of my home, number of rooms, etc., that will be moved. She then quotes me "minimum 8,000 pounds at 39 cents a pound, which is discount from 44 cents a pound; and an 8% fuel charge which she says is 1/2 off their regular fuel surcharge." I asked about scheduling dates (I was calling 5 weeks in advance of my move dates) and she said they were already booking 5 weeks out so I needed to hurry with my decision. I asked if they would confirm date of packing and date of delivery, since the drive to the delivery property would be at least 5 hours and she said "no problem." I asked when they wanted to come out to look over the items I wanted to move so I could obtain a written estimate and written contract re: moving and delivery dates, and she said "WE DON"T DO THAT." All she would commit to was a MINIMUM weight of 8000 at 39cents per pound. I declined, advising her that the weight of my move would be somewhere around 5000 to 5500 so I would not pay for a minimum weight I would never reach. She called me back within minutes representing that they would provide a minimum of 5000 pounds at the same cents per pound, but again, would not come out I;ve moved with professional movers, but it has been awhile so I reviewed the California PUC materials on line and have contacted 4 other moving companies that are also BBB Accredited with A and A+ ratings. All 4 have come to my home to walk through and write up a contract. Per California PUC regulations and laws: A telephone estimate or internet estimate is not valid. In fact, the California PUC, to my understanding prohibits them. Estimates may be in writing ONLY after inspection of goods to be moved. EACH estimate I received from the 4 companies HAS A NOT TO EXCEED weight and cents per pound. The truck will be weighed before arriving at my house; it will be loaded; it will then be weighed to come up with the weight. If the weight is more than the NOT TO EXCEED, the moving company will not get paid for that weight. I only have to pay up to that amount. There is NO MINIMUM. I only have to pay what the weight actually is under that NOT TO EXCEED WEIGHT. Nancy sent me emails after the telephone calls telling me that dates were being booked so I needed to make a decision. Pressure tactics was another reason I refused to do business with them. Though I did not use the services of Movers N Shakers Moving & Storage also doing business as Magic Movers, bot located in Walnut Creek at the same address, I am writing this review because both businesses refuse to comply with the California PUC laws and regulations. Both refused to come to inspect the goods to be moved or provide to me an estimate in writing and required a MINIMUM weight. All of this is in violation of the California PUC. I don't know how this company gets to be BBB Accredited or obtain a rating of A or A+. read more

The Gold Standard of professionalism, courtesy, and care! I recently used Magic moving as part of a military PCS to California. When they arrived at my old location, it was pouring down rain so the transportation manager took extra care to add several layers of wrap and packing around my objects. Dealing with their customer service agent Nancy was always a pleasure and she answered any questions i had throughout the move. Upon my shipment arriving in California, the staff unloaded all boxes in their correct respective rooms and assembled anything that needed it. The movers were hard-working, careful, spoke English, listened to directions and finally very professional, unlike many movers I've had in the past that take ten-minute smoke breaks and bang your stuff around. The CEO Dave was present at both pickup and delivery and goes the extra mile to ensure you are comfortable and satisfied with his company's service. I hired this company to move me based on a friends recommendation. The new house was an hour and a half away from the old house. My friend moved the same distance so I went with her referral. My house was 2100 sq feet and they quoted me $2200 for a 10 hour day. When the team showed up to move me, we could tell right away they were incompetent. The truck looked very small. I asked if they'd be able to fit everything and they repeatedly told me yes. I had about 10 items on hangers I was told by the Office car they'd put in a wardrobe box, but instead they left the items on the floor at the old house. One said he didn't realize they were moving me 1 1/2 hours away and thought they were kidding (really?). The other didn't speak a word on English so communication got lost as the day progressed. The head guy said the maximum I'd pay for the day is $3500. I agreed. Long story short, they ended up tossing boxes that I wrote "fragile" on and broke 2 irreplaceable pieces. Not everything fit and they left many items behind. They showed up to the new place 4 1/2 hours after they left, so by the time they finished unloading it was 1am. One of them in the end just was dumping things and damaging them. He simply didn't care. They didn't tell me they left stuff behind. I had to discover that when I went back to the house to clean 2 days later. I found stuff they left including empty Gatorade bottles on the floor and grass along with my wedding gown (luckily it was bagged) heaped on the floor. I was appalled. In the end they charged me $3800. It was a terrible experience that cost me more than they quoted and more than the "maximum price I'd pay" with damage to some furniture/baseboards. I don't understand the pricing policy. After a couple of phone calls to complain, they credited me $275. You should definitely shop around and should not use Magic Moving. read more

I was very happy with Magic Moving. The 3 guys were very polite, and worked very quickly. Everything was wrapped in blankets and very well protected. Even the staircase was wrapped in blankets to prevent any 'ding's' to anything, and a runner was put on the carpet to keep things clean. They were organized, hard working, professional, fast, careful, and polite. They packed my kitchen items and nothing broke or was lost. The WORST MOVING COMPANY! BEWARE! They are the cheapest around, at $60/hour, but oh how you pay in other ways... (The following is a BRIEF description of the worst moving experience of my life) The two movers were constantly bickering with each other, wasting time by arguing how best to arrange things in the truck. One of them was constantly swearing, and was obese -- huffing and puffing with every box. The other guy was just lazy, standing around half the time. They were dangerous, too: The lead guy, Joe, knew how heavy this one piece was (mini dishwasher), yet insisted on moving it up the steps by himself and without a dolly strap. I just happened to be standing at the foot of the stairs, and when it started to fall down, I was lucky to break its fall, at the expense of my left wrist and finger. During the move I called the main office to tell them what was going on and they never called me back, even though my message told them that one of their movers had dropped a piece of furniture on me and I was injured! My furniture arrived with scratches and gouges that cannot be repaired. To sum it all up, let me just say this: DO NOT USE MAGIC MOVING. They are unsafe, negligent, unprofessional, sloppy and dangerous. I cannot be more emphatic in my recommendation to stay away from this moving service. read more

When I think of my experience with this company, one word comes to mind. Extortion. They gave me a good faith estimate and did not follow that estimate. I even sent them a previous bill of lading from when we moved our goods from TX to CA six months prior so that they could give me a proper estimate. When we moved from Alamo to Walnut Creek, the driver presented me with a "Change Order" at 10:30pm to pay for their overtime to the tune of $1,600 extra!! All they had left on the truck was our piano, which they held while I argued with the driver and the office manager for 45 minutes. We were so exhausted that I finally signed the form, with a written statement on the form saying that I did not agree with these charges. I then wrote them a check so that they would give me back our piano and leave the premises. The next day when I went to cancel the check, I found that they had ALREADY CHARGED MY CREDIT CARD! I cancelled the check and tried to dispute the charge with my credit card company. The office manager lied to the credit card company during their investigation stating that, "The customer had signed the form. Why would the customer lie about the charge?" Later I even tried filing a complaint with the parent company, with no response. This company is managed by unethical individuals and I cannot warn you enough to stay away from them. read more

Would not recommend this company under any circumstances. I should have know from the initial contact. Not only did they arrive without a truck large enough to move my home, when I had clearly advised them of the need for a very large truck, they had to make 2 trips ( which cost me time and money) but did not finish until after midnight. When damage was noted to many items, their comment was it should have been noted THAT NIGHT! While the men who did the work were very nice and, one seemed to be very experienced, it was clear the others were less than experienced. Furniture was damaged, a large piece was left in the middle of a room, put back together wrong, and more! Also, was not notified prior that if using credit card to pay at the end of the move, they charge you more. At 12:30AM the last thing you want to be doing is dealing with this type of issue! It was NEVER disclosed to me prior I disputed this to their office and did get the additional 300.00 they charged me back, but when trying to put in a claim for the damage they caused to my furniture, they come up with nothing but excuses and basically just ignore you. I had always used Tri Valley Bekin but went with Magic upon referral from a fellow real estate agent. Sadly, I should have stayed with a reputable company. My mistake here! read more

Three times in the past I used this company, and I suggested it to several friends and coworkers for local moves with no hesitation. Everyone I know has been very pleased with them when they used them, too. Even the real estate company recommends them, too. I highly recommend these people. I have used at least four other firms in this region in the past--none of the others come close to the GREAT PERFORMANCE and great service of Magic Moving ! Magic Moving was on time--on budget--the personnel were very neat, clean, careful, and wore uniform shirts--a minor impression but a big deal to me. They protected the floors, carpets, hand rails, and protected all furniture. We all know, this can be hard work for the workers in this occupation--to be clean and wearing clean shirts and driving clean trucks means they take pride in their work. It showed, really showed, EVERY time I used them. A relative who is a single mom used them for her move in a condo which had two stories and a stairway to climb to get access...she was impressed, and not a single item was scratched or broken in ANY of our FIVE moves. I paid a fair price, got an accurate price quote and have been extremely happy with Magic Moving. All calls and communications were fast, simple and easy both with the office and on-site personnel. These guys use their company fleet of trucks and vehicles--not some shabby old equipment---across the state, across three or four states, across the county or across the county--they are very very good. They have the right licenses and the right insurance coverage. ( Oh, by the way, they would not be certified for use by government and military families if they did not perform on time and in a professional manner. ) I am very happy now..and very happy in my past usage ! AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME! We hired Magic Moving for a local move we did recently. They were very friendly and professional during the scheduling, packing and the move. Their movers were great, very careful and neat. We had a lot of big furniture and tight hallways but the movers wrapped everything so well and moved it all out with expertise. It was impressive to watch, especially as they loaded the truck so that nothing would shift or get damaged. They were also so helpful in organizing our fragile glass, kitchen and office items. They labeled what was in each box and put each box in the appropriate room, and assembled all of our mirrors, beds, tables, and hutches. All we had to do was a little unpacking and the move was done. We've hired movers in the past but never one that cared as much or was as thorough as Magic. We will always use and recommend Magic Moving! Thank you again, you guys are the BEST! read more
