Came back to them LOYAL to this guys. They are the best! Needed a brake flush. As it was due and they had me in and out! Guys you have to come early to get out early. They work efficient and they tell you exactly what you need. No bs here they don't try to do over what's needed and they do body work too as well as lights. My car wouldn't start and because I had previously taken it to another place (and because I was out of town for work) I asked my dad to take it there. We paid for a tow and a diagnostic service and they said nothing was wrong. My dad went to go pick it up and drive it home. When I returned, my car wouldn't start, again. I went back to the previous place, assuming they would credit me for the diagnostic service but they told me that they can't work on what they think it might be. I decided to take it to Main and Crawford Auto Repair. Everyone was so helpful and they found the issue. The parts that needed replacing were not made anymore but they were able to track down the parts needed. And, it ended up being less than what was initially quoted to me. I wanted to like these guys BUT the following occurred. Took my car in because the a/c was not working. I told Mike that I already got an ac recharge done from Jiffy Lube about a year and half ago and that I strongly felt that I had a leak. He told me that it was their policy to still do the recharge to just make sure that it was a leak, If it was a leak then that would fix it. So, in my head, I thought that was fine as long as I didn't get charged for the recharge...and they would just be charging me for the leak. I pick my car up 48 hours later, and notice it's still blowing out hot air. They told me they did the recharge and it was blowing out cold air. BULL CRAP! No one checked my car after they did this service to see if it was functioning properly! So I spent $187.00 dollars on absolutely nothing! I was so furious that I sent Mike a text message to let him know how pissed I was and I was instructed to come in the next day to speak with the owner. I told the owner everything that happened is his name, and he instructed I leave my car for further inspection. The check for the obvious and called me to tell me I have a leak. NO SH*& Sherlock...what do you think I have been saying this entire time?! And the kicker is that it would cost $610.00 to fix! so in all I would be out of close to 1000 dollars. I picked my car up and told them I AM NOT interested. It's a shame how they think they can just take advantage of people. NOT a good business at all! I was even willing to get my breaks done there! I will never go back. I actually found a mechanic that would charge me half of their prices. STAY AWAY!!!!! read more

A few weeks ago, I took the wife's car in for her emissions test and literally, while I was waiting for the test, the check engine light went on. D'oh! So, obviously, it failed. My next few weeks were going to be really busy so I looked through the booklet of shame they give you and found Main & Crawford. Now, I have a trusted place in the city but figured since it had a "B" in the EPA booklet they could do an okay job. The quoted me $99 for the diagnostic but said that it would count towards whatever repairs they had to make if I chose to get them done there. And that they would take it to the emissions test after the repairs to make sure it passed. That was what clinched it for me. Well, a few hours later, they called and said that the car needed several hundred dollars worth of repairs. I'm not a car guy, but they had seemed like honest people so I gave them the go ahead. And a few hours later the car had passed emissions. Great, right? Why only two stars? A few weeks later, my own car's A/C stopped working! I took it back to Main & Crawford and lo and behold, it ALSO needed several hundred dollars worth of work. This time, I didn't have time constraints, so I told them I would bring it back. I took it to my trusted mechanic and while some of the services that M&C had recommended did need to be done, many others did not. I don't think they are committing fraud. They're just recommending services that aren't strictly necessary. If you have a 10 year old car, you're not going to service it like it's going to run in the Indy 500. I would suggest going to Main Auto (on Main and Skokie Blvd) or Wizard Werks (if you're by the West Loop) for reasonable service. read more

So I walked out to my car this SUNDAY morning and the battery was dead, and this was one of the only places that was open. For me it is conveniently located in Skokie, and easy to get to, and they were very up-front with me, contacted me before doing anything, and completed the job quickly and for less than I had expected!! Granted it was just a battery change and an oil and wiper change, the service was fast and convenient, and they even put an air freshener and a logo'd ice scraper in the car for me. I would definitely recommend them for at least basic service. I will be getting my struts replaced with them before summer, and I'll update with my thoughts. Highly recommended. read more

If you are afraid about going to an auto repair shop or garage when your car breaks down, well have I news for you - this is going to be your new car doctor. The guy's name is Avner, the owner, and he is really friendly and not agressive at all. He listened to my car troubles, and then together we inspected what I claimed was wrong. He gave me options, and allowed me to make the choices, not the other way around. He did not tell me what I had to do. Well, talk about service. Not only did he tell me to leave my car, but he has a service that drove me home so that I would not be stuck waiting there while my car was fixed. To put the icing on the cake, after the car was done, he even drove the car to my house!!! I think this business is outstanding and should be supported. That is why I took the time to write this review. In a world where fairness and customer service have been forgotten, especially in the automobile repair industry, this place shines in my book as #1. I brought my car there for a tire repair and they declared the brake pads "gone" and the rotors needing replacement. Good thing my brother is skilled in car repair because he checked the brakes, said the pads had a couple months of wear in them, and the rotors were fine. I saw the brake pads after he changed them and indeed there were 3-4 mm left in them. The guy said they urgently needed repair. I'm glad I didn't listen to them, it saved me over $400. They were fishing for work, and they were not honest with me. read more

The first time I took my car to Main and Crawford was on a Sunday when no one else was open. Now, I take my cars there because I trust them to take care of me quickly and at a competitive market price. I have a 2003 VW Beetle and most mechanics don't know how to work on a VW but Main and Crawford does. They have come in well under the price of other mechanics to repair my bug on many occasions and as a woman, I do not feel like I am ever being talked down to or taken advantage of. In 2015, my old Honda Accord started making awful noises around the front tires. I brought the car into the Main & Crawford shop in Evanston to look at it. They tried to convince me I needed new tires to the tune of $600 and that the car was very dangerous to drive with the old tires, being fully aware that I was trading the car in and didn't want to put a dime into it. I drove the car into Warren's Shell in Evanston to have a look at it and they immediately sourced the trouble - my heat shields needed adjustment ($40). Fixed a short time later and confirmed that the tires were still okay. I also highly suspect the Main & Crawford shop installed a used part in my car a year earlier and charged me for a new part.
