Nathan at the front wonderful. We were very confused on how to get into the restaurant because the sign says to wait for the host, the host never came. So we walked back up front and asked Nathan. He told us just to walk in and sit down. So we did. Didn't get noticed until we asked a server if we could put food in. Which was after like 10+ minutes of sitting there. The waitress that we asked said "What do you want" with an attitude, we ordered and she asked what we wanted to drink we said waters and then just walked away and didn't say anything. She then came back 8 minutes later with waters. And two dirty plates. 28 mins after ordering a table sat 15 minutes after us got their food before us. We got our food after 30 minutes I had just ordered the fried pickles, and my partner orders a flat bread. The table next to us had ordered 4 burgers of which they received before us. We spoke to the manager he said they were understaffed. But I work in a restaurant no matter if they're understaffed or not it was not busy in here and I would never walk up to a table and ask "what do you want". read more

Came here to bowl at around 2 pm. Got a lane for 3 with no wait. This bowling alley is beautiful and brand new. The only problem is we requested a server and they never showed up. Went to the girl who set the lane up for us and she told me I should go grab the the server to get my order while I'm at the lane. Probably won't be coming back again because of that. I could see the servers on the other side without any tables which is funny to me. I visited Main Event tonight with my four children to have dinner, bowl, and play games. Unfortunately, the experience was incredibly frustrating from start to finish. We were seated and waited almost 35 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. Eventually, someone came by, apologized for the delay, said our server would be with us shortly, and asked if they could get us started on anything. At that point, I ordered mozzarella sticks and two drinks for my kids. We went bowling, played games, and even took the kids to the restroom. When we returned to our table, there was a tap-to-pay device placed on the table, yet we still had not received our food -- nor had our actual server ever come to greet us. By this point, over an hour had passed. I noticed someone who appeared to be a manager and asked if she was one. Her response was, "I'm one of them," which was confusing and unhelpful. She did not attempt to resolve the issue and instead went to get another manager. I had already paid online for bowling and fun cards, so I stayed only because I didn't want to disappoint my kids. At that point, a manager offered food and brought out two orders of fries and mozzarella sticks in an attempt to fix the situation. While I appreciate the gesture, it did not come close to compensating for the lack of service and the time we had wasted. To make matters worse, our server finally came over -- with an attitude. There was no apology, no acknowledgment of the delay, and zero remorse for the poor service we experienced. This was one of the worst dining and service experiences I've had, especially with children involved. I would never recommend this location to anyone I know. read more

Wow. Such a great venue! I had no idea this place existed. My son wanted to celebrate his 17th birthday at a bowling alley with games. I found this place online and I'm so glad we did. The staff was incredible. Abdel and Brandon helped out during every moment of our trip. Brandon hosted my party of 35 people and Abdel made laser tag a breeze for my family. The atmosphere here is great for teen and young adult parties. The food is great, nothing extraordinary but better than many bowling alleys or or venues I have been too. Save your money. If you want to shoot pool I suggest you find someplace else. Tables are too close together. There's tables that are reserved they're not used. And you have to stop every so often about 5 or 10 minutes while the kids decide to walk past this is a thorough through way. The setup is the worst. It doesn't matter which tables you choose because one end is for certain restaurant service and the other end is the exit or entrance. Ask for the service and the restaurant is rude. I am here now. I waited over 20 minutes to have someone take my order. I watched others receive service after I was seated. I flagged down a hostess to ask if anyone will be coming to take our order. Once ordered took another 30 minutes to have pizza brought out. I am glad I ordered my Kiddos chicken strips and fries. They brought it out before the pizza, and it was cold. Four and 20 month old were really hungry. They ate it, but I was so disappointed. I am not sure what is worse, the service wait or their kitchen wait. Worst experience. Great experience took a nosedive and ruined by a manager towards the end. Bad customer service I attended a birthday party at Main Event Montclair for one of my son's classmates who just turned 11. It was my first time visiting, and I was immediately impressed. The place is huge, clean, and packed with entertainment options--bowling, laser tag, an arcade, and great food. It's an ideal venue for all types of gatherings, from kids' parties to corporate events, and I even considered hosting a company party here. The party itself was fantastic. The kids had a blast, the parents were enjoying themselves, and our staff/host, was exceptional--patient, helpful, and engaging with the children. The pepperoni pizza was a standout, and the birthday package seemed to include everything, making the experience seamless and fun. However, the experience took a complete nosedive towards the end. After spending hours having fun, we returned to our table only to find that it had been cleared, and all the give away were removed including my son's giveaway bag was missing. I approached a manger/supervisor, easily identifiable by his different-colored jacket, and politely explained the situation, requesting the possibility of replacement. His cold, dismissive attitude immediately rubbed me the wrong way. Instead of showing concern, he asked who our host was (which I didn't immediately know) and then walked away without any reassurance or solution. I saw him pretending to call someone on his radio but taking no real action. Frustrated, I finally saw our host and flagged him down by the way his name is Isaac, who immediately recognized my son and was happy to replace the bag. He even asked if there was anything special in it. That's great customer service! He went to the back and on his way back to me the same supervisor stopped him and reprimanded him--I could see the embarrassment on Isaac's face as he reluctantly put the bag down. Then, heis supervisor walked away, smirking at me like he had won some kind of power trip. At this point, I was furious. Another female supervisor came by and I saw Isaac talking to her. So I went to Isaac and asked him if his "douchebag"manager is stopping him to give me the bag. He apologized and the female supervisor intervened, and immediately apologized, giving my son the bag without hesitation. This single incident completely changed my perception of Main Event Montclair. A place that seemed perfect for families and parties was ruined by one manager/supervisor's unprofessional and hostile attitude. If it weren't for Isaac and the female supervisor, my review would be a complete one-star. Because of this incident, I won't be returning anytime soon, and I've already shared my experience with the other parents who attended and won't be returning either. It's a shame because the venue itself is fantastic, but one bad employee can destroy an entire experience. To Main Event Owner: I can't tell you how to handle your staff. However, customer service matters--a giveaway bag costs your business nothing, but your supervisor's behavior cost you multiple returning customers. That supervisor/manager should not be in a leadership role. His behavior was not only rude but also unnecessarily confrontational and demeaning to both customers and staff. Just reading from the previous reviews, it appears other customers have the same experience from your management team. You just opened in January. Perhaps, you should evaluate your leaders before you lose more customers and your staff filing a lawsuit for hostile workplace & bullying. I highly recommend to review your surveillance. I visited March 9, party took place on the bowling area between 2:30pm- 6pm. Isaac and female supervisor should be able to recall the incident. By the way, this is what your douchebag manager is depriving my son of..(see photos). It's less than $5 worth of candies. Female service attendant at the entrance was very friendly and helped us with checkout by answering our questions at the kiosk. I felt we got a good deal worth of games for our money. We stacked up enough tickets to get some pretty cool prizes. The attendant there was attentive and chill. We played a game each of gel blasters and laser tag. ABDUL, the attendant at this department, was extremely cool and friendly. He definitely made an impression of the great service you guys have to offer at this location. I gave this Main Event location two chances -- once with my family and once at the bar -- and both visits were disappointing due to consistently poor customer service. Staff seemed more focused on chatting among themselves (especially in the kitchen area, which is visible through the large glass wall) than helping guests. When I asked to speak with a manager to address the lack of service, I got the same indifferent attitude. There was also zero staff presence on the game floor. We experienced issues with multiple machines and couldn't find anyone to help. Overall, the employees came off as disinterested and unprofessional. We bowled for about an hour and a half, played arcade games for another hour, and then finished with a round of laser tag as a family. We ordered a bunch of different things--pizza, wings, queso dip, salads, even a bucket of beers--and nothing hit the mark. Not even by bar food standards. Henry was absolutely amazing!! He was incredibly helpful at the screens up front and very informative about wait times for lanes. Once we got our bowling lane he remained attentive and helped us clean up our spilled drink. What a great family fun center! As soon as we walked in staff was there to help us plan our visit at the kiosks. We had a blast at the arcade and bowling. They have different bowling games and challenges which was so fun! Full bar for the grown ups is a great touch. DISCLAIMER: I KNOW THIS PLACE IS NEW. With that said, my experience today was very discouraging. I came at 11:30am when the day was early. The drinks were pretty good however when we ordered our appetizers my wife ordered hers before I ordered mines however I received mines before she received hers. That should NEVER happen. Second, I had to ask for napkins. That's when the waitress finally left to give us napkins and bring us silverware. That's rather backwards with how service should be rendered. So then I ordered my food (double cheeseburger and salad), which seems to have taken more than an act of congress to make because it never came. My wife got her salad she ordered but because they were taking so long I decided to leave and wanted the food boxed up to go. So I asked how long it would take for the burger to be done and if it would take longer than another 5 minutes then I would like to cancel my order for that item. She explain to me it would take more than 10 minutes more after waiting more than 15 minutes when there were less than 15 people in there dining room. Off to the side of us in another booth was two gentlemen with laptops (ON A SATURDAY MORNING) probably evaluating service as well to determine the service quality of this particular work team.
