Good free parking and unique outdoor seating area with carved wood bar and stools. Big tree growing in the middle of the patio provides ample shade. Slow service when they get a big group. The lady did not greet me with a smile & it's been over 18 minutes (hot sandwich), and they have not brought the food out- I would not come here if you are working and on limited time for lunch. I would not come back either; standing in 'no line' & waiting for the young woman to get done chatting with her friend outside. We came around 1 on a Saturday afternoon and there were 3 other people in the place. They have pre-planned sandwiches, that run from approximately $5-7, and "double meat" sandwiches for around $10. They also have a build your own option. Sandwiches do not come with any sides - sides are extra. They have normal deli options like chips and potato salad. We settled on their Mac n cheese grilled cheese, because well, it sounded amazing. It wasn't amazing, but it was pretty good. They used a deli-roll instead of bread, so the grilled cheese aspect was missing and the crispy texture you get from like grilled sourdough or something would have really made the sandwich awesome. As it was, it was perfectly good. I didn't care for the potato salad - very mustardy - but my husband liked it. They only have two tables inside, but they have a large patio for seating out front. It was extremely smokey from the fires when we went, and the inside tables were full, so we glumly sat out in the smoke. When one of the groups inside left, the server came out to tell us that a table inside was available if we wanted to move, which I thought was very nice of her. This is everything you want in a local joint: super friendly owners/staff, high quality food, fair prices, generous portions, and charming, low-key environment. I was excited but nervous to see the new deli that opened in town. Excited because we could use a good deli, nervous because the last couple places had closed down after only a short while. After ordering here today for my first time, I'm still excited, but no longer nervous. These people clearly know what they're doing, are passionate about this endeavor, and have put together a really great little place. They have a straightforward menu (everything is the same price, custom-made) with really good quality meats and very fresh ingredients. I took the owner's recommendation to add his homemade pepper sauce to my pastrami and swiss sandwich, and it turned an already delicious sandwich into a WOW sandwich. Good call, Igor! Today I ordered to go, but I look forward to eating in the outdoor seating area next time, which has beautiful custom-made woodwork, and is a great shady spot for summer people-watching. This place is super convenient for parking, and is also centrally located for those walking or using other forms of transportation. Oh, and for the person who mentioned credit cards, that will happen in the next week or two, according to the owner. My suggestions for improvement over time? 1) Add an interesting vegetarian option such as grilled vegetable (eggplant, zucchini, squash, etc.) sandwich, and 2) add something simple for those with a sweet tooth, like homemade cookies or brownies. read more

I am very happy that there someone making a go at a good deli in downtown Placerville. Looks like they have the real deal in terms of deli meat. Two complaints: 1) I am from New York originally so I can be a bit arrogant about The Deli.... Please change the bread! Bread is as important as the meat. And Sysco industrial bread will simply not do! How about some serious sliced rye? 2) credit cards would be helpful. Though the cash only status may just be because they are new. On the positive.... Great space, great location. -------- I just got a reasonable reply from someone from the deli. Thanks. Yup..... Could very well be that the Sysco truck I saw was delivering to sweetie pies. When I went to the deli there was only one bread type available and the way it was bagged in the back made it look pretty industrial. In any event, there was no other bread to choose from. I absolutely loved my sandwich. I got the turkey on wheat with a variety of toppings. The only thing that kept me from giving this deli five stars is that they didn't have some toppings that I would have liked to have, such as jalapenos, or low fat condiment options. Other than the quality of food was delicious. The meat portions were great, especially compared to Subway and Togo's where they limit the number of slices you get. The bread was fresh, fluffy and delicious. There is plenty of parking nearby, whether it be a lot or on the street. There is no inside seating but there is plenty outside. The prices are more than fair and they even deliver with orders of $15 or more. I am so glad my friend brought me here for lunch. read more

They explained how the ordering system worked since I've never been there before. I came in slightly before the lunch hour rush so I got the three sandwiches I ordered fairly quick. As far as the sandwiches themselves are concerned, they were just OK, and I have no complaints with the quality of meats they use. However, a sandwich pack full of vegetable condiments, with only a few slices of meat, on a thick bread does not constitute for a true deli sandwich. Flavor wise, they could also use more of it that when I bite into the sandwich I'm tasting everything and beyond. Overall, it just wasn't as satisfying as I desired it to be. I haven't even eaten here yet but I absolutely love this home-town deli. They seem very focused on providing excellent sandwiches every time. The owner lady is soo sweet and they take pride in their Yelp fans! My husband got a roast beef sandwich on Dutch crunch bread and we were blown away with the cost. $6.50 for a soda, the sandwich, and a bag of chips with the $1 off Yelp check-in coupon. It was a far superior sandwich than one you would find at subway at a much better cost! As far as the quality, he was in sandwich heaven! They put a spicy spread on which he fell in love with and the amount of ingredients they put on is perfectly portioned. I've eaten here twice - so far. Right off the bat I'll tell you these guys have the best outdoor seating in Placerville... even in the rain. Several decent beers on tap hits another checkbox for me! Not much indoor seating... but you don't want to sit inside! It's a sandwich shop and both times I enjoyed my food. On my second visit I had a sandwich on a sourdough roll and the bread was pretty unimpressive... let's hope that was just a fluke. I am a terribly picky eater but my tastes are pretty basic. I love fresh food, lean proteins, plenty of veggies, and whole grains. My lunch at Main Street Melters met all my requirements and then some. I ordered a veggie salad with double chipotle chicken and I loved it. The artichoke hearts were a very nice touch. Not only did I love the food, but the patio seating was fantastic. A huge deck covered by a huge tree and a great view of downtown. Another big plus is they have ajus, but it's not listed on their menu (pair with the big philly and you got yourself a sweet french dip). Bread is always fresh and perfect consistency. Just got done eating my maple ham sand on wheat with all veggies. Beats the hell out of subway! Their bread is nice and fresh and fluffy, they have a generous helping of meat on their sands and their veggies are crisp and fresh. Also, its really nice that they dont pour on the condiments (like mustard and mayo) so much that it drowns out the rest of the sandwich. Very nice portioning. They are well priced, only five bucks for a six inch, and I was getting full after only three inches of food! The staff is very nice and personable. And the outdoor eating area is simply BEAUTIFUL!! I went to the opening last Saturday, when brew fest was going on. The deli offers delicious sandwiches with top quality meats. The staff are super - friendly and the atmosphere of the place is warm and welcoming. I love the front patio, which makes for a great spot to have a bite, chill out, chat, and people watch! The location cannot be beat either. I also envision music and open mic nights. All in all, Old Towne Deli is a fabulous addition to Main Street. Great place for lunch in historic downtown Placerville. A remodeled deck outside under the shade of a tree is the perfect place to enjoy a meal. Great to see a deli right on Main. Lots of close parking. Take out or seating on the deck. I ordered roast beef Swiss on sourdough. Everything was very fresh. When asked what I wanted, I replied the same as always, "everything no pickles." To my surprise, cucumbers and spinach were part of that veggie line up and made my amazing sandwich even better.
