I really wish I didn't have to write this review. I've used this company multiple times with no complaints but the last time was HORRIBLE. Not only did the movers reek of pot upon arriving, they stole some of my prescription medication and a very expensive $400+ camera. When moving an Ikea couch down one flight of stairs they jammed the wall and created 2 large gashes. Then they jammed the other end into the window and cracked it. They also attempted to move the couch in a manner that created the legs to scratch the ceiling. Upon all of this happening, I called the company 2 times and no one would help me but instead said they took a message and would have the owner call me back. HE NEVER CALLED. As a last resort I sent certified mail to the company with a detailed letter explaining the situation. The owner called and offered me $300 for the stolen camera and sent a repairman out to fix the wall. His repair job was so poor and low quality I didn't bother having him come back and finish the job. It should also be noted that when I asked the repairman what happened to the employees who moved me, he laughed and stated they were fired. Seriously, I yelp all the time and I RARELY give bad reviews but this was by far the worst customer service experience of my life. We used Affordable Moving for a big move from LA to OC. We had a 2 bedroom condo and a small storage unit on site that were packed and ready to go and hired 3 guys to speed up the job. They showed up at 10am (the guy on the phone said they'd show up between 9-10) but I do wish/recommend starting earlier since moving always seems to drag on. I know we had an elevator they had to use in the condo but it took them 3 hours to load the truck and another hour to load the storage unit. So then it was 2pm when we started the drive down to the OC and dropped off half the load at the storage unit, then moved the rest into our new apt. They finally finished with it all at 7pm. It really dragged on and took forever, they were not fast. They did take pretty good care of our stuff, except for kicking the dolly into boxes and sometimes putting heavy boxes on top of fragile boxes. $1300 for moving an 1100 square foot place was not at all affordable. For paying for 3 guys I don't feel like they got the move done very quickly and probably would not use them again. read more

I have been using this place for my last 3 or 4 moves. On the last one the driver Eloy and helper Ryan were VERY slow compared to past movers that helped me out. They kept constantly going into the bathroom, broke some furniture, and seemed very lazy. My past movers moved more furniture in under 3 hrs. These guys took 5 1/2 hrs with a shorter drive time and had less than the previous guys. I'm giving 2 stars for the past movers but Eloy and Ryan were LAZY and SLOW! read more

I don't doubt that this could be a good moving company but my experience was less than stellar. I hired Affordable Movers to help me move my 2 bedroom apartment 5.5 miles down the road and they suggested 2 guys after I had given them the estimate of what needed to be moved. On the day of the move, the guys did show up earlier than I had asked so I wasn't home but was still charged for it. They were the friendliest guys you could work with but their work ethic left much to be desired. The process was slow and it took over 6 hours to finally complete a move that has taken previous movers 3 hours...and this was even after they brought in a 3rd guy where I was charged extra. What was also frustrating was on the way to the new place, they had taken a detour to get refreshment for about 20 min but didn't take that out of the final time. I was sympathetic to the guys due to the heat but 6 hours for a 2 bedroom apartment using 3 guys is just not acceptable. I feel sad that I have to disagree with my fellow yelpers. I chose this company because of the positive reviews here, and because it was local. I have given it two stars (as opposed to one) because my experience with booking was fine, the guys showed up on time, and all my stuff made it through the move. That pretty much sums up anything positive I have to say about my moving experience with this company. As I mentioned, the movers (two guys) showed up at a reasonable time and did an assessment of my move. I was basically moving from a one bedroom to another one bedroom, and everything was packed. The guy asks, "this is it?" I'm like, yeah. So I'm thinking this will be relatively quick and painless. Once they start moving my stuff, I notice they're downstairs for longer and longer stretches of time. At one point, they were downstairs for 25 minutes (we timed it). My friend went down there to check out what was going on and he said he caught them just chatting down there by their truck. Uhhh, really?? That really pissed me off, however, after that, they seemed to move slightly faster (meaning 10 minutes downstairs max). Another thing that made me irritated is that the mover kept asking me questions about moving my furniture. I'm like...umm, don't you do this for a living? One example: he asked me if my bed was one piece which I thought was a ridiculous question. I told him when I moved last time, the movers took the bed apart, moved it, and put it back together (on a side note, they did that all without asking since the answer is obvious!). He said, oh yeah I can do that it just takes more time. I ended up doing it myself (both taking it apart and putting it back together) since I wanted to end this horrendous experience. All in all, being that I paid for a moving company to alleviate some of the pain of moving, I was pretty disappointed. I highly doubt I would use this company for my next move, nor would I recommend it. I know it sucks because I might have just had the worst batch of movers at the company, and the rest of the company is awesome, but I think that there should be equal training and communication to all staff at a company. read more

Buyer beware! This moving company, which was priced competitively, sent only two movers even after I challenged their judgment on this point. The move, which the owner estimated would take 4 - 5 hours, actually took 10 - 11 hours costing me twice the estimated price. Anyone can make a mistake, so I contacted the owner about the error in judgment and he offered no assistance with the grossly under estimated moving cost. I was very skeptical about hiring movers after reading a bunch of crazy yelp reviews. I hired these guys to move my one bedroom apartment and garage yesterday. They showed up about half an hour late and didn't call to let me know that they were running late but I can overlook that. My movers were Richard and Randall (I think - I'm horrible with names). They came in and got right to work. It took them about an hour and half to get all my stuff wrapped and into the truck. The wardrobe boxes were definitely super helpful to have! These guys didn't waste any time or complain and they moved my furniture in the new place twice..they even gave decorating tips which was pretty funny but appreciated! These guys really worked their butts off and earned every penny of the nice tip I gave them! I definitely appreciated their hard work and hustle. Tips for moving: 1. Have your stuff organized and packed when they arrive. It cuts down on the time; 2. Offer them water; 3. Be nice to them; and 4. Tip them for a job well done because let's face it ...moving is a hassle and we hire movers because moving sucks and we don't want to do it ourselves. read more

I paid for two movers and basically got one. One of the movers was in the truck doing nothing. I have used several other moving companies when living in San Diego who were so much faster. I booked them for a Saturday afternoon. They had already done one move for the day and mine was the second. Since my afternoon move time was flexible they were supposed to call me before they arrived. They did not call. On the way to my new place they stopped for food and did not tell me. I did not know were my stuff was and I had to call the office. It might be hit or miss with which movers you get since this is a larger company. read more

UPDATE: I just got off the phone with Daniel from Affordable Moving and Storage. Throughout the conversation he specifically used words to avoid taking responsibility for the damage that was done to our property. He informed me that because we've already posted this yelp review that was unfavorable (though he did not disagree with its accuracy) they would only offer the insurance policy minimum ($200) for $2200 of damage. He said, they would have "gone above and beyond to resolve this issue" but they now will not "because you have already posted your review." Most companies would strive for an updated positive review on how a company resolved the mistake. Not every business is going to be able to do everything right every time BUT it is how you correct your mistakes and how you choose to do the right thing even if it costs your company money that shows if you are a reputable business. You can decide if you think Affordable Moving and Storage is a reputable business. If you move with Affordable Moving and Storage and anything goes wrong or as Daniel said, "things happen", the cost will not be worth the "affordable" savings. Think twice about a company that penalizes those for making honest yelp reviews. INITIAL REVIEW: We used Affordable Moving and Storage to move from one home to another that were about a mile away from each other. Although the men who did the moving were very amicable, our California King footboard was damaged to the point that it requires complete resanding in order to fix. This bed was less than a year old. It took more than 5 weeks to get someone to come out here and look at the damage that was done. Now at 12:30 AM our bed has just collapsed while we were sound asleep because the movers did not reassemble it properly and did not put back on one of the metal brackets that is needed to hold it together. The wood on the side panel has been damaged where the single bracket buckled and now replacing the bracket won't work. We have been told that the only way to receive any kind of compensation for the damages is that we will get .60 cents per pound. This will be less then $30 for the footboard and less then $200 total for our entire bed that was well over $2000. It is going to cost us more to replace our bed than it cost to hire Affordable Moving and Storage. You have to trust your movers that they know how to disassemble and reassemble your furniture and that they have the experience to do this. My suggestion is that you be very wary before choosing this company. Find out about the insurance policy on damages before hiring any company. In the past we have moved and when a piece of furniture was damaged it was replaced at no cost to us. With Affordable Moving & Storage, If anything goes wrong it will come out of your pocket. In our case it looks like it will cost us double. This was definitely NOT affordable for us. read more

Matt and Orlando showed up around 8:15 this morning and packed my entire two bedroom apartment into their truck, drove it 15 minutes, and unloaded it to my new 3rd floor apartment in LESS THAN 2.5 HOURS!! He verified the order and I was sent email copies of everything we discussed. The day before my move I was sent updates to ensure all went smoothly. We used Affordable Moving for a prolonged move. It was a great experience from beginning to end. Daniel, Ada and Cecelia were great. Providing updates, being patient with our questionable move in date that changed 3 times. Even with all the delays and storage fees, we felt we were charged more than fairly for the storage and the move. All of our furniture was wrapped, padded and taken care of. From 12/13 to 12/26 nothing was damaged, it was all reassembled and put where we needed it. The movers that helped us on both ends were courteous, clean and efficient. Took 4 hours to pack up and 2 hours to unpack. I couldn't think of one thing they could have done better! Thanks to everyone over there for helping us and being so nice at the same time. read more

These guys are great. Found them here and called about the mid-week special. They were on time, worked fast, and provide free wardrobe boxes to hang your clothes. They charge double for drive-time, which is standard. But don't drive 45mph down the freeway like other companies I've used. We had thrown out most of our old furniture, so mostly had boxes and appliances. We got from Orange to south Santa Ana, completely finished, in under 4 hours. Less than $350, not including generous tip for great work. Worth every penny! read more

We are a small law firm (4 attorneys, 1 paralegal, 1 secretary). We moved our office from Newport Beach to Aliso Viejo (roughly 10 miles). We received a pre-move "estimate" of $1600, which included removing bracing on book cases then reinstalling them at the new place, and disassembling and reassembling desks. In advance of the move I actually paid someone else to move the book cases (over a dozen of them). And I decided to donate a substantial amount of furniture to charity. Despite the move involving FAR LESS FURNITURE AND WORK, at the end of the day these guys demanded $2400. (This does NOT include the $400 minimum they charged the following Sunday for 15 minutes spent delivering a few additional items.) Our move was on June 6. On June 9 I emailed Daniel Berrie (owner? manager?) explaining my dissatisfaction, and asked for an explanation. As of today, a week later, he hasn't responded. PS -- Daniel called me to discuss on Tuesday afternoon. He insisted we hadn't received a $1600 "quote," rather an "8-12 hour estimate." He made a modest adjustment to our bill. Terrible experience, handled poorly, and unprofessional! Hired the company to move some furniture from LA to OC. Movers were polite and helpful. When it came to transport, the moving truck broke down on the freeway. I understand that things happen. Engines fail. But, the way the situation was handled by management was very unprofessional. A job that should have taken 5 hours max ended up taking all weekend! The company was very unresponsive. The delivery was delayed many times, finally being pushed until the following evening. They didn't offload the truck and deliver same-day as agreed, but had the truck towed and delivered the next day... 30 hours later! Again, I understand that things happen, but it was terribly handled. The company gave me a four hour window for delivery next day, which they missed and were 2 hours late. After several phone calls, I finally coordinated the delivery. I was incredibly disappointed having wasted my entire weekend... Waiting. I was not offered any kind of discount for my inconvenience. I had a father and son team they were very good they checked each box and pointed out any flaws before loading to the truck they also packed and wrapped anything that needed it.They moved us in to our 3 floor apartment (elevator & stairs) and placed any furniture where I wanted it. If you have the means to use a moving company this is the one. I was lucky enough today to have two of the friendliest and most efficient movers take care of my job today. Francisco and Christian quickly moved my goods from storage unit to apartment without scratching or damaging anything at all. I had several wardrobe sized boxes that contained all of my loose items that these men carefully boxed up for me, in their own boxes. I have worked in the service industry for decades and if I always had employees like these two men my days would always be easy and happy. I would recommend this moving company to anyone as I'm sure I didnt just get extremely lucky by having these two gentlemen show up at my storage unit (early by 20 minutes as well). Loved working with these guys---Jr and Richard really hustled for my 1 bedroom apartment at the top of 3 flights of stairs. They didn't go ballistic with the tape and plastic wrap, which I appreciate because some places wrap stuff as though they were babies being carried to Antarctica. (Hello! Meet Overkill!) These guys were normal guys who are making a living and realize it's not good business to gouge people when they're at the mercy of the movers. Great service and apparently in very high demand, because they were all booked up for my second move (husband's old condo) 2 weeks later. We moved on 2/1/2013 and I hired Affordable Moving and Storage. I have never hired professional movers for residential move before. I could not believe how professional and courteous the three movers were. They met us at our storage facility at 9 am and within 35 minutes everything was loaded from our 10x15 unit and we were cleaning up and driving to next location. The crew was headed up by Richard (foreman) and he was assisted by Lucas and Cris. They were friendly and absolutely hustled the entire time. The only time I saw them sit down was driving from locations. They wrapped up our mattress and shrink wrapped dressers and wrapped all fragile items. They filled up the truck at our second location and drove to our new 3 story townhome in MIssion Viejo. At our new home they brought all items in our home without damaging anything. I was extremely satisfied with my experience with this company. I would recommend to anyone who is looking for professional movers. This is my fourth move with Affordable Moving and Storage. I've had two local, household moves, one office move, and now, my fourth move, which was a move from Irvine, CA to Pleasanton, CA. I have had outstanding experiences with Scott Maison, who was my estimator and planned my moves. He visited my home for this fourth move, as well as my storage space, and estimated the weight of all of my belongings perfectly and gave us a very fair and competitive price for our interstate move. I've been especially impressed by his accessibility; every call I've made to him has been answered promptly - no problems ever reaching him with a question in preparation of the move, or even after the move to follow up and finalize details. There were no surprises, the team was on time, delivery was on time, there was no breakage or damage to any of my items, and the men that moved me have all been great. Specifically, I've got to say that Hugh, Victor and Mario have been outstanding employees and I really appreciate their hard work and attention to detail. The worst part about moving is just that: MOVING! I can handle packing, and I can handle unpacking, but when it comes to hauling large pieces of furniture in the heat of summer, it becomes a larger task than you anticipated. We got the lowest rate for a local move: $89/hour for a minimum of 3 hours. This included 2 people, a huge truck with a bobtail, and unlimited use of clothing/wardrobe boxes (this is EXTREMELY handy when you have clothes on the hanger). Our two helpers (I only remember Chris) were very professional, polite, and fast! They did a quick survey of what they were going to move, organized the move, and moved everything into the truck in 1 hour and 30 minutes (This is a load of a 2 bedrm apt), and unloaded everything in the same amount of time. Note that they charge double during transportation. So if they drive for 30 minutes, they will charge you for 1 hour. I appreciate that they told me this upfront. There were NO HIDDEN fees whatsoever. They made moving a breeze! I'm extremely happy with their service, and I would absolutely enlist their services the next time I move. On their website they boast having been in business since the 1980s, and all their movers are licensed. I only have great things to say about Affordable Moving! read more

I've used this company twice in the last year and a half. The first time around the movers were great very professional and didn't required guidance on how to wrap my furniture. All my items were delivered intact. The second time around the movers were lazy, didn't wrap my furniture appropriately my king size bed had little scratches, they broke my patio table worth $150 company only reimbursed me $60. The movers kept asking "is that it" when loading the truck when it was obvious that we still have many more things left to load, and to top it all the lost the screws for my baby crib, now I'm left with having to buy new screws and hope they work or perhaps a new crib. My word of advice take a chance if you want with this company you might get lucky and get the awesome crew I got the first time I used them. read more

This review is a little late. I used their services on July 26, 2012. Nonetheless, here it is. I found this company on yelp and was really pleased and definitely recommend them. Especially considering their competitive rates. It should be noted though, that after reading other reviews regarding the $75/hour rate during Mon-Wed, this apparently does not apply during high peak periods of moves, which is during the summer. So when I moved, the rate was $85/hour, which was still extremely reasonable and competitive with other companies. Also, I seen the reviews regarding the wardrobe boxes that they provide, which is extremely convenient. However, they are not yours to keep. They are $15-20 (I can't remember exactly) each if you choose to keep them. If you choose not to keep them and plan on unpacking them at the location you're moving to, this will factor into the time that you're taking (aka that they're charging you for). So just keep that in mind. My movers were Ryan and Chris. They got to my place on time (although they do give you an hour window of waiting, but they still got to my place within the window they said that they would). They started immediately and were extremely efficient. I didn't feel at any point that they were wasting and/or trying to kill time to get more money. They wrapped the things that I needed and the charge for supplies was very minimal. The guys themselves were easy going and made small chit chat with me, but it definitely didn't interfere with their work progress. I definitely recommend them and liked them so much that I have chosen to use them again for the move from my storage to my new apartment. I made an appointment for 08/30/12. Something to also note, when I called in this time to make the appointment, the person on the phone advised me that they would need a $50 deposit to hold the spot due to it being a peak time for moving. I did not have to pay this deposit when I moved the first time, which based on the rate increase was also during a peak period. So I advised the person on the phone of this and he actually waived it for me due to the fact that I was a repeat customer and did that as a favor to me, which I appreciated. I will update my rating after my second usage of their service. But as of now, I would definitely recommend them. read more
