I represent a swim team in the East Bay and have managed our team's bulk swimwear orders for the past three years. This year, Sean Ryan,the CEO, personally reached out to us and made several commitments regarding pricing, service, and delivery. Unfortunately, he FAILED to deliver on ALL of those commitments, resulting in significant financial and operational issues for our team and families. The following concerns summarize our experience: 1. Pricing Discrepancies:The pricing we agreed upon was changed multiple times on the team ordering website. When these discrepancies were brought to Sean's attention, some prices were adjusted, but they still did not fully reflect our original agreement. 2. Unauthorized Shipping Charges: Shipping fees were added to our families orders despite our explicit agreement that shipping would be free for our team. In fact, the primary reasons we switched vendors was the promise of free direct shipping to families. Several families are still owed shipping reimbursements, and our club is now considering covering those costs on behalf of the vendor. 3. Unfulfilled Promotional Commitment: Sean committed to providing 100 free swim caps at no charge. To date, this commitment has not been honored. 4. Outstanding Team Rebate: Our team has not received the 10% rebate that was promised as part of our agreement. 5. Failure to Meet Delivery Deadlines:We placed two separate order batches to ensure timely delivery. The first batch was scheduled to arrive in late April; however, orders did not begin arriving until mid-to-late May. 6. Missing Orders and Financial Impact on the Club: More than 15 families never received their orders. As a result, our club had to work directly with the manufacturer to replace those items. The club incurred the cost of the replacement orders as well as approximately $400+ in expedited shipping charges. Sean had committed to providing us with an update by Friday, 5/29 after multiple conversation with me and our coach, but instead he became unreachable (he turned off his phone) and did not respond until Monday, 6/1. By that point, we had already been forced to make alternative arrangements with the manufacturer. 7. Poor Communication and Lack of Professionalism:Communication throughout this process was inconsistent and unprofessional. Calls and messages often went unanswered, making it extremely difficult to resolve urgent issues in a timely manner. 8. Pattern of Similar Complaints: After discussing our experience with other swim teams throughout the East Bay, I learned that several teams have encountered similar issues with Sean and his company. read more

have been trying to get a refund for a missing item from my April 2023 order for years. I paid for two swimsuits and only received one. The missing suit was approximately $85 with tax. Initially, Sean promised to send a replacement, but it was never sent. After the season ended, I requested a refund instead, which Sean agreed to--but it was never processed. Since then, Sean has made multiple assurances that payment would be sent, including promises of a check and, more recently, Venmo. Each time, I am told "tomorrow" or "this week," but the payment is never sent. I have provided my Venmo multiple times and still have not received reimbursement. Even our swim team president attempted to help resolve this with no success. This has been an extremely frustrating experience with a complete lack of follow-through. As a vendor who went out of my way to get them a time sensitive order for their customer for Junior Olympics, they continually lied at every turn about why they couldn't pay their deposit. I continued to get their order to them as I didn't want to let down their client and assumed, in good faith, that they would be grateful and pay their bill. This morning, January 13, 2023, when I realized I still have not heard from the company, I called and discovered that the phone number is a non-working number and the company is temporarily closed per Google search. If I could give zero stars, I would. I ordered suits for my swim team, and it was a farce from the start. From mixed messaging on pricing, what we could order, when we would get them, all the way to where we are now; unable to get all the suits for my athletes. We have paid for these suits, and don't have the correct number, sizes, and we received them almost 3 weeks after the requested date. The briefs are different material compared to the jammers, and these were custom made for us. We can't get anyone to respond, and now we have kids without. DO NOT order from these people. read more

The owner Sean has most likely left the country because so many people are mad at him. We bought a backpack from a different company and made the mistake of asking Sean to embroider on it and we never got it back. He kept the backpack and it has been nearly a year now & we are still trying to contact him for money or the bag and nothing. He scammed our entire swim team and other teams in our area and from other reviews it sounds like people nation wide have been scammed. Then they had the nerve to email our team with a swim jacket "offer" at Christmas time. Guess he ran out of all the money he kept from the summer orders he never fulfilled. I do not know how Sean sleeps at night. Shame on you! Close your doors and make things right with the hard working families you have stolen from. In addition, all the lettering on the swim jacket we got from him fell off in the first wearing. They were pretty much vinyl stickers, not heat set, complete waste of money. I contacted the owner when I had a question about when it would ship and he was able to give me information and it did ship quickly. I completely recommend this company. Think twice before using this company!! I ordered a jogger (pants and jacket) for my daughter for the school swim team at the end of October. I paid extra to have her name monogrammed on it. Not only did it take over a month to receive it, but it came without the monogram. I kept emailing the address from which I ordered it and got no response. I finally got a contact number from the coach. The woman I emailed was very prompt and forwarded my email to her boss, the CEO of sales. He said he would send me an address label so I could return it and then they would monogram it. I politely declined and said it is swim season and she needs her jogger so she can match everyone. He said they would send me another one. That was mid December. December 30th he said he would mail it to me on the 2nd of January. I still have not received it. I called and Mr. Ryan said he mailed it to me two weeks prior. He said he would investigate and call me back in about 45 minutes. It is now four days later, and I still have not heard from him. This company has VERY POOR customer service. Needless to say, swim season is over and my daughter still does not have what I paid for. BEWARE of this company! read more

No one should do any business with this company. Sean has scammed so many swim families that you might as well kiss your money goodbye if you want to hand it over to him. My daughter swam all season without her suit because Sean never fulfilled my paid order despite numerous follow ups with him. When I would catch him on the phone (because their physical store in WC abruptly closed - red flag) he would promise it was being sent out immediately only to never arrive. I would text to follow up on several occasions giving him an opportunity to make it right. Finally when I requested a refund he had the audacity to say he would process (LIE - no money ever returned) and offered me a discount for next year. As if I would EVER place another order and made sure we brought this up to our swim board who then realized he never fulfilled several other orders ... just took the money and ran. My daughter's water polo suit was not the correct size and there aren't any stores in our area that carry water polo swimsuits. I placed a call yesterday to their store to see if they carried the swimsuit needed. The help was attentive and on point. The lady on the phone placed three swimsuits on hold. If i could rate this company a negative star, it would still be giving them too much credit. Anyone rating this company over one star, probably works for the company and is trying to lift their rating. I ordered one jammer, one brief and two sweatshirts from this company November 29, 2023 to be delivered to my house. The beginning of January 2024 the over priced low quality sweatshirts arrived to the coach - not to our home and the suits were not with the order. The coach stated some other kids didn't their stuff as well and the owner assured him it would be taken care of asap. Three weeks later nothing happened, I emailed the company and was told they would be sent to me w/in 2 weeks. Two weeks later nothing arrived after three unanswered emails, I spoke with Sean the owner who stated he would personally oversee that the order was sent to me by w/in the next 4 business days priority mail. A week after the 4 business days lapsed still no suits and I had to demand a refund for the suits. Don't waste your time, I can't figure how this company can stay in business if he is consistently refunding people for bad service read more

This place is awful, waited over 3 months for swim gear for rec season and all we got was the run around about when it was coming or shipping. The season is all but over and the owner agreed it was unacceptable and would issue a refund but then went dark and now won't respond to email or calls. If you have any other option you should use it because this place won't provide the services you pay for and if they tell you they care about the customer they are simply not telling the truth. I am starting the process of contacting every swim board in the County to warn them so they don't have to go through what we have. read more

Terrible Customer service. My team ordered arrived with 3 missing suits. Apparently these were on back-order, however I was not notified as such. I emailed the VP of the company, Sean Ryan, and I received a 1 line response that he "is trying to figure this out now." His definition of "now" is a little different than mine though and after not hearing back within 24 hours, I needed to reach out to him again. After ANOTHER 24 hours passed, Sean told me he was still searching for 3 suits. Since that time, I have attempted to call Making Waves 3 times and all 3 times I was told Sean was not available and only he could fix the situation. No one at Making Waves made any attempt to contact me regarding any search for the suits and would only do so after I emailed or called. In the most recent call, the retail representative made it his mission to lecture me about the tone of voice I was using with him. Apparently I am suppose to be ok with pre-paying for a suit order, not having those suits arrive, and then just put a smile on my face even though our season ends in February? Goggles won't grip when wet; can't be returned. I used to buy from this shop under the previous management. The goggles I've long-used have been discontinued. A store employee recommended the Aqua Sphere Kaiman goggles, at three times the price of what I had been paying. They seemed to seal when I was in the store and both they and I were dry. Once in the water, they would not seal. The store will not take them back. Very disappointed. read more

Is it possible to have zero stars? I ordered and paid for swim parkas ($1400!) in mid-November. It is now mid-January and I haven't received the parkas yet, and they have given me NO idea when I can expect them. The original shipping date came and went with no communication from our rep, so I emailed, and then again a few days later, then called with no response, and called again a few days later. Finally got a call back from Sean, who sounded very apologetic and went on and on about how he doesn't make excuses, they're having problems with the embroiderer, he'd have the parkas to me in seven days and give me a big discount. Needless to say, I have only heard from Sean once in the past week. I got a text message that said: "I am at the mercy of my embroiderer. I just" and that's it. He hasn't returned phone calls, emails, texts since then. I left a voicemail and sent an email today alerting him and his team that we were officially cancelling our order and expected a refund after waiting for 2 months. No response. This place is a nightmare! NOTE: If at the start of your order process they seem responsive and customer service oriented, believe me they did to me too. I ordered 2 team suits March 3 with plans it would take awhile to get in. In May the suits had still not shipped and I had no updates from the company. I requested info thru their info email to no response, called the Walnut Creek store and their voicemail is full and doesn't accept messages. The Campbell store manager was helpful but the CEO told me someone would call a few days later. I had to keep calling to find out my daughters suit had no expected ship date but my sons suit had been sitting there for weeks. When asked why they didn't ship my sons suit they replied with well you didn't pay two separate shipping fees- mind you it was over 2 months since I ordered suits. After much debate they finally agreed to ship the 1 suit but still no estimated date for shipping. Now fast forward to June and the other suit is still on back order and our team approved a different suit so we could at least have something some kids have gotten there's (in same size) but ours is still no where to be found. No one replies to emails, phone calls aren't answered and still go to a voicemail that is full, and we are out $75 for a team suit that may never get here or by the time it does won't fit. The Campbell store has tried to be helpful but the company management is not responsive or truthful. Super disappointed by this company. Ordered an Arena tech suit a couple of days ago and was under the impression that the item would be shipped out within 24 hours. Tried reaching headquarters and calling all of the numbers on the customer service page only to hear "I don't know" or a voicemail option. I am absolutely appalled with this company. I ordered my kids' suits in April and am posting in July, near the close of swim team season, and still missing 2 of our 3 suits! I called the store this morning and spoke to the OWNER of the company who said he couldn't help me!?! I need to call back in an hour and talk to someone else. Apparently they were out of stock in our teams' suits and have 'just received the in'. Wouldn't ordering stock be something that you do before or at the start of swim season id this is your business? A friend went into the store and said that it was a totally zoo and customer service is severely lacking. Avoid this place if you can! My family and I had a wonderful experience at Making Waves. We came in for some practice suits and a racing suit. The staff was very knowledgeable on fit and brands that they carried. This place has great customer service. You can tell they care about the customer and I would love to see them do our swim team suits. I will be coming back to Making Waves in the future! read more

My 9 yo daughter needed a racing suit and another swim team mom recommended getting it from Making Waves. We went by on a Saturday afternoon and the women who helped us was very helpful, knowledgeable, and patient w/my daughter. She first checked the sale rack for her size range and discovered that she didn't have anything on sale in her size and told me the cost of a full price suit. All of which I really appreciated. She then had my daughter try on two different sizes and explained how that type of suit fits and what she recommended. I really appreciated her great customer service, advice, and no pressure sales approach. Highly recommend and will be back when my daughter grows out of this suit. read more

Absolutely phenomenal! My daughter wanted a bright, graphic fast suit for a meet this weekend. They did not have her size but found one in Michigan. Violet arranged for 1 day shipping.
