The smell and taste of the food and cakes are very close to what I used to have in Malaysia. The owners even used some ingredients from Malaysia! Owners and chefs are very friendly and humble. They asked for reviews and are willing to improve. Authentic Malaysian food is not easy to prepare, let alone to taste good. We popped in for a quick lunch while in the area. It has a great ambiance. The service was decent. Food was just ok for the price. The mango delight was saucy but the pieces were too big. The mango slices were too big for one bite and difficult to cut because we just had chopsticks. It was labeled as spicy but could have used more flavor. The Hokkien Mee was also saucy but also difficult to eat. The veggies were way too big to enjoy. The noodles were cooked well but it was overshadowed by how difficult it was to eat. I LOVED it when she said "Welcome home" the moment I walked into the cafe. It was heartwarming. We took some of her suggestions and sampled wanton mee, nasi lemak, char kueh teow, chicken satay, and chendol. Food Ratings - Wanton mee: 11/10 - Nasi lemak: 11/10 - Char kueh teow: 10/10 (it had a good "wok hey") - Chicken satay (the peanut sauce was not as authentic but still had a very yummy lemon grassy-peanuty flavor:11/10 - Chendol: 10/10 (a thick deep brown palm sugar syrup and natural pandan jelly noodles would have put it over the top "kau") - The thick spicy belacan served on the side for my nasi lemak kicked the heat two or three notches up. It was out of this world delish! Oh, the ikan bilis or "anchovies" in the sambal were super light, super crispy, and super tasty as well. I just couldn't get enough of them. Trying out a new place, had their Singapore noodle (asked for more Asian flavor) and okra balaccan. The food was good, highly recommended. A hidden gem in Southlake for sure! Located in a small corner of a shopping center with Kroger. It was so nice to hear some of the patrons and wait staff speaking Cantonese. Made me feel at home. The interior is decorated beautifully simple with minimal art work but it does boast a full wall that has a moving video of fish. The screens in the restaurant are showing videos of Asian street markets and food stalls. Service is fast and the servers are attentive. We were looking for some home cooked meals so we ordered the porridge, Bak Ku Teh, and curry. All were so good! Prices were good for Southlake food. read more

Tasty Eggroll at Plano has much better Malaysian food. Most disappointing was the chicken rice and chendol. Chicken rice was dry, both the meat and rice. Chendol used brown sugar instead of gula melaka so it lacked depth. All the noodles didn't have wok hei. Nasi lemak didn't have sweet sambal which is very crucial. Malacca Tofu was pretty good. That's about it. Flavors overall were about 30-40% of what you'd get in Malaysia. Wouldn't return unless friends wanted to meet up here. There isn't a lot of Malaysian restaurants in DFW after the closure of Secret Recipe and I'm glad that one more opened up and gladly came to try it out. The place was well decorated and clean, and the waitress was responsive and attentive. The Roti Canai was the thick kind, which I liked and came with a nice chicken curry for dipping. The Malacca Satay was nice with very enjoyable sauce for dipping. The Char Kuey Teow has a lot of Wok Hei and tasted great. The Roti Bakar was extremely tasty with Kaya and thick slices of butter. The Nasi Lemak was also very well done and the Malacca Tofu was the star of the show, with a layer of egg at the bottom that was hidden in the photo. I was searching for a great Thai place I had eaten at a few months ago. I couldn't remember the name of it, so when the Malacca Cafe came up on Yelp, I stopped by. It was late afternoon between lunch and dinner time so there were not many diners there. The restaurant was very clean and nicely decorated. I ordered the Singapore Mee Fun, a noodle dish with chicken and shrimp. There were plenty of big shrimp and the portions were generous. I took half of it home. The two young people who waited on me were very informative and shared their knowledge of Malaysia. It was a pleasant experience and I plan to go back there. read more

Finally found a great Malaysian food in DFW area. We tried nasi lemak, Malacca tofu and char kuey teow. All are fantastic. For dessert, we tried Malacca cendol. It was amazing and the highlight for our dinner. This pandan flavored jelly was perfectly made, combined with palm sugar syrup and coconut milk, it surely offers a comforting taste that's both refreshing and indulgent.
