The food here is authentic and absolutely delicious. I do not go anywhere else for latin american food. Their chicken is delicious alone or dipped in the lime sauce that it comes with. As well as the roast pork with garlic sauce. Great prices and fast service. Our local friends recommended this place and the food is really good! After traveling for the last 8 days it was nice to eat some food that tastes like home cooking. Yum yum yum! The best rotisserie chicken ... Ever! You can literally go to hundreds of restaurants in NYC but won't find anything this good. This place is always completely packed and it's for a reason. Though the service is not good & it's always super loud here, it's worth tolerating for this amazing food. Went here today for my lunch hour because I work in the Bronx sometimes. I got the mofongo with cheese and ate a little bit of the bread they serve, which was really good. Warm and toasty with butter on it. I've never had mofongo before, but I thought it was pretty good. However, what really stood out for me, and the reason I'm writing this review, is that when I ordered the mofongo, I asked the waitress if there was any meat in it (I'm pescatarian, only eat fish). Usually, when I go to a Dominican restaurant and tell the servers I don't eat meat they look at me like I'm an alien/give me a very dirty look, and then proceed to tell me there is nothing on the menu for me. I get it; Dominican food is very meat-heavy, but I'm always treated like a pariah in this situation, and I know that they could at least offer me the tostones or maduros, but they don't. However, when the server at El Malecon bought out my meal, she also bought out beef gravy, then paused and asked me if I wanted something else, since she had inferred I didn't eat meat from before. She then offered me seafood gravy, which I accepted, and she bought it out for me quickly. I really appreciated this gesture and the fact that she was respectful of my dietary needs. read more

The food is very good and it's fresh most of the time. The waiters have great customer service skills. The only problem this restaurant has is the Mexicans in the morning that are there taking orders by the register. There's some of them that are rude and don't know how to deal with the public properly. The night crew at the front are a better representation for the business. read more

The food is amazing!!!! The service subpar. The bathrooms are horrendous!!! One stall in the women's bathroom has been out of order for two months. Today the bathroom looks like disgusting, a toilet overflowed and it stinks like sewage. And to make matters worse, our waitress lied to us and told us the restaurant ran out of bread!!! Didn't let me explain what I wanted and then just told me to go there and place the order. I just hanged up because that would defeat the purpose. I rated MALECÖN based solely on their service. I have catered many family gatherings with MALECÖN throughout the years. The service has declined considerably. Specifically the manager who always seems to be at the cash register every time I stop in. He is extremely condescending to his customers. While waiting for my food I notice how he brushes off his customers, rolls his eyes. I now fully expect to be treated harshly when I pick up my take out. As I was walking out today I asked myself, is the chicken that good? Why do I continue to support a vendor that doesn't appreciate my $? Dropped in for lunch. I didn't order anything out the blue and an didn't get anything unexpected. Ordered Rice & Red Beans with Half a Chicken. I received your typical huge plate of rice with a coffee sized cup of Red Beans alongside a neatly cut half of Rotisserie Chicken. The Rice and Beans were rice and beans. The Rotisserie Chicken was cooked well, but nothing to run home and brag about. Decor consist of a counter where you can eat and plenty of tables where you'll be served by a waitress. Been coming to this Malecon for many years. Quality of the basics is always consistent. They are famous for their rotisserie chicken (pollo al horno). I usually order half a chicken, rice, beans, and mas-duros plantains and feed two kids and myself under $22. Also, they have the most amazing tres leche cake there. If you take it to go, it's a dollar cheaper. Worth every buck. Just thinking about it now makes me salivate. read more

This is one of my favorite places. Ok, lets start with breakfast....their coffee and their avena....(our version of Farina) it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Nice little Dominican joint in Kingsbridge. Apparently the rotisserie chicken is the main draw here; I can understand that, you can smell it as you walk in the door. For eats, we shared the tostones, which were hot and tasty, but a bit dry, so we needed a lot more of the garlicky vinegar sauce than they gave us. We also shared the half carafe of sangria, which was flavorful, but at $15, it was ALL fruit and not much beverage for two people. I had the mofongo with fried pork chunks (yum), and my fiance had the pork chops with rice and beans. When I got in the place this place was not very crowded & a little quiet but they had not too long a wait to get a menu & also a waitress/waiter to get the ball rolling. I ordered a Dominican Republic style pork with black beans & yellow rice & also one coffee to boot which I didn't need too much anyhow & also the food had a extra touch because the pork not just had the Dominican spicing on her but also green pepper & onion on the top to bring into the mix & though the beans were in a bowl to the side I did put the beans onto my yellow rice & eventually I put the rest or dumped the extra bit including the sauce onto the rice & made this the bomb. They got breakfast/lunch/dinner/specials so if you don't need to worry your mind much on pricing & portions because they deliver man & to boot the restrooms are also clean & modern to boot as well so if you need a bite before the road well here you go or if you want Dominican well there's your verdict and also why. read more

All I have to say is... Pollo Salteado con arroz blanco y habichuelas! So good - a staple of my life. I have, however, had some not so great fare here...the platanos taste like they are fried in oil that has already been used to fry, probably chicharron the pollo. The place is open super late - which is great! The rotisserie chicken is yummy but try to eat right away (this pertains to take-out) - it may dry out if you wait too long. read more

I had a late lunch with a friend here due to reviews I read in Yelp. Yelpers praised their grilled chicken. In reviewing the menu, we noticed that prices were high for the simplest of dishes. I can't believe the paella pricing--sky high. We decided to split one entree and add another side dish. We ordered chunks of pork with plantains and a side of mixed rice and black beans When the order came it was NOT chunks of pork. Instead there were strands of pork over-fried till they had the consistency of beef jerky. Plantains and rice were justOK. Usually in these type of latino restaurants they give you a few leaves of lettuce with a slice of tomato as a pretend salad. NADA. Zilch! We ate the food b/c we were hungry and enjoying each other's company. I don't know how this place survives with over priced entrees and poorly prepared food. Its a nice place to visit, the food is usually delicious, they are known for their chicken. the prices are moderate and the wait is minimal.

Place is really good, what I suggest is the shrimp mofongo and the steak with smothered onions. the 3 leche is also good.

I've know the place since forever. Their pollo al horno is my favorite. I don't know what they put in that pollo but it is very good tasting. I usually have the food to go and know to expect decent Dominican food. I can't really comment about the experience at the restaurant as I have not done it in a while. read more

Reasonably priced, DELICIOUS and prompt! Rotisserie chicken is juicy and delicious- I have never been disappointed. I can get dinner for 2 from Malecon for about 12 bucks and it is usually delivered within 20 minutes. Wonderful, I love this place! read more

I got the steak combo for delivery. (I went inside to get the menu and saw the chicken YUM!) the steak was a little tough but it was delicious. The beans maybe needed a little more seasoning but they were good. Overall for the price it was good. They only issue I had was that when I called to create the order, the guy put me on hold very abruptly and I waited for about 10 minutes which is a lot. When he came back, he took my order and said have a good day and hung up. I was in the middle of asking him the price to see if there was tax included or not. The guy came and delivered the food in about a half hour to 45 minutes which is decent and the food burned me when I took it out of the bag which is a good thing. :-) Aside form the slight rudeness, it was good. Also, I ordered in English so if Spanish isn't your forte you should be ok. read more

Pretty good food, plenty of flavor, and an attentive staff

The Riverdale, Bronx Malecon is no comparison to the Manhattan location. The pernil $11 lunch special was dry like carving wood, $14 rotisserie chicken shouldn't even called Malecon as this was also dry. I was going to order the combo, but then realized it was $35 - i am glad that i didn't order it as the chicken was horrible and we would have all been hungry, at least the dog ate well read more

The food is delicious and customer service is pretty good too. It is worth trying out if you're nearby.

It doesn't get much better than a really good whole chicken, rice and beans, and plantains for around 12 dollars.
