3.5... I've tried the Ahi sandwich and the Mahi Mahi sandwich. Both sandwiches tasted delicious; but were on the small side relative to the price. The Ahi tuna was a bit over-cooked; I like my Ahi on the rare side. The wheat buns used had a very fresh taste. The overall meal felt very light and refreshing. The service was not that great. We went on a weekend night and there were THREE girls at the front cash register area. Two of the girls were just loudly gossiping away like their lives depended on it. The poor remaining girl was left to do all of the actual work. The food took a very long time to come out; weird since you'd think fish cooks faster than most dishes. Parking: their lot was so tiny! We had a hard time navigating...I'd recommend parking in the next plaza over where the parking is more open. Overall, the concept of serving casual, relatively healthy seafood dishes is nice, but in this case, it could definitely be better executed. read more

I ordered the Halibut plate with grilled vegetables and salad. The entire dish was tasteless. The salad was made from old, brown lettuce. The grilled vegetables tasted burned on the outside and nearly raw on the inside. The pita also had a slight burned taste to it. I definitely will not be going back. read more

The food is pretty good and the portions are generous, but I feel like this place is way too expensive. Maybe next time I'll just go with their taco specials (Tuesdays they have specials on tacos and other items). The reason that I'm only giving two stars though has nothing to do with the food or even the pitifully small parking lot- it's due to the lack of service I've received both times I've been here. The cashiers don't say hello and seem to want to be anywhere else than at work. Checked out this place for the 1st time and it's just ok. We ordered steak, chicken & shrimp skewers, tomato soup and it wasn't very flavorful. Someone else had the Tilapia and supposedly that was pretty good. I would maybe go back to try something else, maybe. read more

First visit to MFG. we had the salmon and Mahi Mahi plates. Fish was cooked perfectly. Not particularly fond of the "seasoning" which is just applied after grilling. I will probably order it without next time. The fresh veggies and rice complimented the fish. Got the free Crab cake with Yelp and it was tasty with a bit more filler than I use in my cc. Overall experience was pleasant. The staff is friendly and attentive to serving and follow up with our satisfaction. We will definite return for Taco Tuesday and another fresh fish dinner. read more

I've actually ordered a decent amount of food from Malibu Fish Grill as my office is relatively close by. I normally order the salad that comes with grapes, kale, and almonds with a slab of protein. The food has normally been decent. Unfortunately, the prices have remained the same and now the quality and portion size is deteriorating. The last couple of times I've tried the ahi tuna on my kale salad and the tuna has not been fresh. The last time I ordered the kale salad, which includes grapes, I got one grape. They put just enough kale in the bottom of the to-go container to cover the bottom of the container - that was it. I think they sliced a single almond and scattered that in to my salad. The salad by the way, costs about $15. The portions before use to be decent. Now they're getting out of control by cutting back on their portions, without dropping the prices. The portions are an absolute JOKE. When I order a fifteen dollar salad from Cafe Vida, the container is bursting with salad, toppings and comes with an awesome sized portion of protein. It probably takes me 30 minutes to eat. The last and final time I ordered a salad from Malibu Fish Grill, I had to spend another $12 dollars immediately afterwards to get a burrito. They charge adult size prices and dish out kid size portions. I can't stand it when a business tries to take advantage of a paying customer. read more

I've hit this place after work, once a week, for the past year. It's kinda sad that I haven't ventured past the the mahi mahi bowl or plate but its so goood! I've been going here for years and it seems like they completely changed the menu from best to worst. Their servings are absolutely smaller than once before. The prices are outrageous. I've eaten here at least 3-4 dozen times because the food's well prepared, the staff is friendly and professional, and the prices are fair--particularly when they have discounts on Tuesdays. Their skewers are exceptional--even the steak and chicken--which for a place that was just recently "Malibu Fish Grill" really says something. Their "crispy fish" is basically fish and chips, much cheaper than other fish places, with thick pieces of fish battered and fried to perfection. The salmon and other entrees are worth relaxing and eating as a dine-in experience, though their take is also quite popular.The coconut crusted shrimp is simply amazing! The decor has also been recently upgraded. It's worth going to if you've never been, particularly if you like seafood that won't break your bank. read more

It's really sad I must score this restaurant with low a rating. This was my first time and last time I will patronize Malibu fish grill. I orderd the "special" Ahi Tuna and my husband had the salmon. We received our plates and to my surprise the food was cold and we asked for fresh cooked food and all we got was a microwave zapped plate back. The fish now was a rubber texture and it tasted a tad bit spoiled like that 3rd day need to get this food out otherwise it will mess up food cost kind of way. I ordered their lobster roll because I haven't found a good place for one yet... And I still haven't! Can't believe they charged me $13 for that dried out, chewy, thing they called a lobster roll. I had to attend an evening meeting in Redondo Beach and wanted a quick meal. The external appearance of the Malibu Fish Grill was pleasing (I wasn't familiar with the chain) and the interior was very clean and modern with lots of light. I wish I could say I was as pleased with the food. I had tilapia with brown rice and a salad and I can honestly say I don't remember ever having been served up with such a tasteless meal. It was truly dreadful. The fish was lukewarm, tasteless, and had a disturbing glacial sheen to it. The brown rice was cold and tasted like cardboard. There was a strong, viscous garlic sauce dumped on the modest salad which, had it been warm and redirected to the fish, might have given some reprieve to that awful dish. I was running late and didn't want to complain and face having to wait for a replacement. So, having picked at the food, I quickly left to look for a McDonald's. read more

So yummy. I live in W. LA, but I'm in Hermosa Beach all the time and whenever I come down to the South Bay I have to get MFG. The chicken bowl is fabulous! It's huge and will definitely fill you up. I recommended going there for taco Tuesdays, since there tacos are insanely good! The staff is friendly and quick and it's nice that you pay before you eat, so when you are done you can just get up and leave. The grilled vegetables were just okay, with it mainly consisting of chunks of zucchini, We also got the tilapia over the spinach salad which was really good. Plenty of parking -- if your a local you know that the "strip mall" at the next PCH driveway is actually one of the largest shopping centers in town. The parking goes on for blocks-- but the immediate entrance is tight, no worries just mosey down 25 yards on PCH and you are home free. We ordered the shrimp dishes-- jeez louise- the food was was served with the water (with a touch of lemon) when we sat down. Came here today for the 1st time with the family. Had the Salmon & Mahi-Mahi (raw) w/ Rice Pilaf & Vegetable sides. The Pilaf rocked, the veggies were a tad bit undercooked which i was ok with as I like the crinch, wife wasn't so into that. The Salmon was real good and my Mahi-Mahi w/ the Miso Glaze was good and pink inside, which I like, but super chewy. Next time i will get the Salmon. Noticed that the people who ordered for take-out, seemed to be waiting a real long time. So you might be better off eating it there. Or calling to place your order before you leave to pick it up. I gave it 4 stars because the Salmon and Pilaf rocked and to get what we did + 2 beers for under $30 if not to be overlooked. Will definitely be going back. read more

I'm not quite sure how anyone could say the quality of food here is good, it is mediocre at best. I ordered the the Wahoo fish plate and when I received my meal the fish was terribly overcooked. Understandably, this fish does tend to be a bit more firm than other varieties, but it was hard as a rock around the edges and very tough in the middle. I could not even cut it with a knife! The "fruit salad" was also disappointing. The strawberries surely must have come from a frozen fruit bag. The best item on my plate was the lettuce salad! On a positive note, the server did ask how my meal was and to this I gave her my response regarding the fish. She offered to get me a new piece of Wahoo and I accepted. The second time around the fish was actually cooked correctly, however the lemon oregano seasoning was a minus! Lastly, the decor in this establishment needs work. Very plain, as if the owners went to a restaurant supply store and bought whatever was on sale! The wall behind the salsa bar is an eye sore.
