We have been buying Carne Asada Tacos a La Carte, with a side of refried beans, chopped onions and an extra salsa for many years on Taco Tuesday (or Wednesday). Very good food, adequate proportions, and friendly service (especially the kitchen staff?). Very disappointed in tonight's meal. Wasn't that warm, and Carne Asada Taco contents were so minimal in contents it was pathetic. Prices have increased, and understandably. Don't reduce the quality of you offering to the point that the meal is so disappointing. I'll pay more if that's necessary - just don't disappoint me with what has been very good before. read more

Been coming here for years, normally on Tuesdays. Came Friday the last couple of weeks at around 7:39 pm, different staff. Food was overcooked, and all of it was warm to cold, and very disappointing. It's a shame. Need to pay more attention to quality and not cook ingredients up front and then serve inferior quality food. read more

My family and I really enjoy this place! The service is always top tier (Jenny is the nicest person ever) and the salsa is bomb. I wouldn't say it's the most authentic Mexican food out there, but it hits the spot and the portions are incredibly generous. I always get some form of the house burrito with green sauce... I'm partial to the carne asada but the shrimp and carnitas are also quite good. The fajitas are really good as well, as is the Mexican Pizza. Definitely check this place out! It's a neighborhood-feel and a lot of people seem to get takeout (the few times we've been, we were the only ones dining in... don't take this as a bad sign though!) read more

Said I can order and eat it here. I ordered two tacos wit shredded beef and salad. The tacos came with tasteless ground need. I ate half of one taco and left. No sense complaining. Salsa was way too spicy. Probably good for other people but killed my taste buds. Plenty of other Mexican restaurants in the area and just my luck I decided to go someplace different tonight. We always love coming to El Gringo. It's the ultimate neighborhood restaurant. Casual, inviting and yummy. Food comes out quickly and they've moved to all disposable utensils and serving plates/bowls so we can take everything home if we don't finish. El Diablo bowl is my favorite! Their guac is the best! Even though the food is good, sometimes the service is lacking. There's a sense of indifference at times as well as a lack of getting to know the customer with any type of small talk. The staff would rather speak to one another by the kitchen than check on the tables and the customers. If I wanted this type of environment, Taco Bell would've been the go to at a lower cost. read more

Insane prices and food that does not match. This is a simple to-go spot with optional dine in seating, and yet they are charging restaurant prices and then some. $22 burrito? You're out of your mind. I remember this place opening up around 2009, quite a few years ago now. At the time, it was a go to for family and friends, I remember the food being good. The menu has stayed the same, yet the prices have doubled, and it seems that the quality has declined. Maybe that's all down to a matter of perspective, being a teen in 2009 vs now, but in any case it's quite disappointing. Also, online orders won't let you add any comments to request changes. Im in the restaurant business and I go to El Gringo Redondo Beach once or twice a week! Im a salsa snob and if your salsa is just okay Im not coming back! Let me say they have the best salsa of any mexican restaurant in the South Bay and Ive been to them all, but If you know one better please let me know! The salsa is thick, chunky, bold, spicy and refreshing. Its so good I have ordered it in quarts size to bring to parties and everyone loves it! That said the chips are hit and miss but lately they have been great. Hot tip here are the mahi mahi grilled tacos, these not lame talapia fish tacos at the other Mexican places! Generous piece of fresh, high quality fish too. Try these two things and see if Im not spot on. Great parking, nice staff, clean relaxed vibe here. I love it and just got back from there but Im going back to buy some salsa to take home!!! read more

Holy cow has this place gotten expensive! Came by today because I didn't feel like driving to my usual place. Have been here many times for the xcholti (soup). Today I paid the same as always but got 1/2 the usual quantity. It was delicious though. Next up: carnitas taco $10.80 - terrible. Meat was dry, chewy & had a big blob of fat in it. Ate maybe a third of it. Most surprising though was the guac. $7.20 - check out my photo of it. Good thing I didn't need to share! Also, guac had no zing -missing lime, jalapeños or something. I came in here after finding out the Manhattan location is order only.. To find that this spot is order only. You can order and eat down at a table but it's more of an expensive chipotle feeling. Service is awesome and thankful for her, we actually ordered. Otherwise, I was able to hit up my usual Mexican local spot. The food is good but expensive when considering an evening for dinner. I was in the area and came in for a late lunch. We took one step inside and was abruptly told they are to go orders only. Despite a room full of empty tables. I have no clue as to why...Did they get rid of the dishwasher? Or run out of silverware? The tables are there empty. It as if they are going the "cloud kitchen" route but half their space is tables. Had a craving for tacos for lunch so ordered takeout and it was ready very quickly. I had taken out here before in the past was satisfactory. Got the ground beef hard shell tacos and was sadly disappointed. The ground beef was partially pink and the shells were so wet from meat juice they fell apart. Threw out all of it! read more

The name of the restaurant says it all. The tacos were good but the shells were basically like eating the ones premade you buy at a supermarket. While I can affirm that everything is homemade, I would rather have crunchier tacos. The beans and rice were delicious with my plate. They do bring you plenty of chips and salsa and they have two TVs (that I could see) so watching a ball game was a nice touch to dinner. It seems that getting good guacamole was another underwhelming moment im afraid. We smartly ordered a small bowl, and while it came with everything guacamole should contain, the avocados didn't taste like they were ripe. I tried adding salt and lemon to the mixture but there was no getting away from the taste. BUMMER. My girlfriend had the shrimp burrito which she claims was delicious and a perfect addition to her lunch the next day. They have outside seating and the service was clutch so i'd give it a try if you havent been there before. read more

I have been coming to El Gringo for years. I have taken my kids here and always would get the kids meal which comes with a side and a drink. Today I ordered this Togo. The cashier said you can only have the drink if you eat there. I have never heard this plus just 2 days ago my daughter order 2 kids meals Togo and received a side and a drink. When I got my order it was just 2 kids bean and cheese burritos no side included no drink but I paid the full price? Why didn't she just charge me for 2 kids bean and cheese burritos separately? I really love the food here. The soup is amazing. But I'm not happy with how my order went. I would like to speak to a manager about this since I feel like I was over charged. read more

We have lived just down the street from this place for many years. We used to get take out pretty often but I guess we forgot it was there. We just went back and really liked the food. I got the soup which was some of the best I've had which was loaded with chicken and avocado. My husband got a burrito which was huge. He said it was really flavorful and he would definitely get it again. I feel like in our area there is such a limited choice of good Mexican food places. El Gringo is a little bit pricier than nearby Mexican food places like El Burrito Jr. But if you can afford it, it's definitely worth it! I enjoy their combination plates where you can order two different things in one plate. I had a delightful enchilada with rice and beans and a shredded beef taco (both pictured). It's worth noting that the taco is not a typical street taco (which I usually prefer), but it was still good and a fairly large and meaty taco. To compare it simply to El Burrito Jr, El Gringo cares more about seasoning and flavor. During quarantine we were able to walk in order, sit in the car, and then pick up our food. It's worth noting we tried to call-in our order, but we suspect they were too busy to pick up the phone, so we had to order in person. They have a couple of tables outside for dining that are safely spaced apart. They have several locations throughout the South Bay Area, and it speaks to how much people enjoy their food--a local favorite for sure if you can afford to spend a little bit more on your Mexican takeout. Will be looking forward to dining in here once it's safe to do so! read more

El Gringo seems to be a Hermosa/Manhattan/Redondo staple and I've always enjoyed going over the years as I've been in town visiting my sister and family. I have many memories of family meals at the Hermosa Beach location, but this was my first visit to the Redondo Beach location as it was closer to the park where my nephews' baseball games were being held that day. While I was less impressed with this location's ambiance as it is a small, simple restaurant located in an equally small strip mall, the food was as good as always and that's of course, the most important part. I ordered the burrito bowl this time around and even though it came out looking a little small, it was incredibly filling and I actually wasn't able to finish the entire thing. Especially having begun my lunch with the delectable salsa and chips. Overall, I recommend El Gringo for a casual lunch or dinner spot. Redondo location for convenience and ease of parking and Hermosa for ambiance and beach-y atmosphere! read more

Good Food, huge servings. I heard rave reviews about here and picked up the mahi mahi dinner to go. HUGE serving, could've easily been a dinner for 2. Three mahi mahi filets, huge bag of tortilla chips, 3 corn tortillas to eat the mahi mahi on. 2 sides (staying close to my TX roots, I chose refried beans and Mexican rice). The mahi mahi was slightly overcooked for my taste, but still super good (ie it didn't stop me from eating all of it.... and promptly skipping into a food coma after). I would go again but maybe try a different protein next time. I also love that they have impossible meat and vegetarian options. read more

Delicious wet taco! Had the bean and cheese burrito. I always appreciate gooey cheese on a set burrito. Gracias El Gringo! The sweetie went with the black bean enchiladas with beans and rice on the side. He approved! For starters we had the chips and guacamole and the guac was nice and fresh. It was quite a hot and muggy day in Redondo and this little eatery does not have any air conditioning and only ceiling fans so, it not a very comfortable place to dine in on such days. For the servers, those are challenging conditions to work in. The servers are efficient and friendly enough. With so many competing eateries in the area for burritos or enchiladas, we will likely not return for just a 3 star experience. read more

I ordered takeout last night from this Mexican Restaurant and was very disappointed. The service was great, they answered the phone quickly and my food was ready on time. I ordered two tacos with rice and beans. Pretty simple, nothing special right? Unfortunately the food was just ok but what made me give this place 2 stars was the price and value. My total bill at $18.67. The "combination" was $13, but I was also charged Shredded Beef $2 for each taco (2 tacos $4!) Now, typically shredded beef is a usual meat selection for a Mexican restaurant but seems like this is now a premium add? If so, I wasn't told this over the phone. I feel like that charge might be a mistake but if not that's just ridiculous. Also, no chips!! What Mexican restaurant doesn't give chips to take out orders? Well not this one.. Overall I don't think the value is here, the food was just ok but also just too expensive. I will not be back. The ambiance is basic, you can sit inside or outside, decent amount of parking spots. read more
