My wife and I dine at Malones Saturday, April 29th at around 9:00 pm. We were seated at Harrys since there was a thirty minute wait to be seated in the dining area of Malones. Our waitress MacKenzie was awful!!! After placing our order, we received our steak and potato soup which was superb. We waited patiently for our salad next, but after about twenty five minutes, we had to ask another server where our server MacKenzie was, and to inform her we have been waiting awhile for our salad. Mackenzie brought our salads, and refilled my ice tea, and we never saw her again!!! Another server brought our entrees, and our beef fillet medallions were very dry, and our asparagus was burnt. It was suppose to be blackened, but it was burnt.The manager came by our table and asked how our food was. I ask him what happened to Mackenzie, but he kind of blew us off, and informed us he would be taking care of us. My wife complained about the beef medallions being dry, and he did bring her a new order. I had already eaten mine, and washed them down with ice tea. read more

We were going to go to Harry's but the only table left was a high top and one member of our could not sit in the tall chair due to disability. We did not have a reservation at Malones but they fixed a table up for us and seated us promptly. Food was great and when they made mistakes in what not to include in my nieces salad they comped it for her. Wonderful service. read more

I've never had a mediocre meal here! Malone's is a must visit restaurant if you're in Lexington. Their steaks are high quality and extremely tender. They are so worth the price. The seafood is out of this world too! Definitely order their fresh salads and their steak and potato soup is my favorite! I also love the fact that they serve Drake's and Aqua's dishes as well. Malone's is (for now) certainly the best steakhouse in town. Plus when you consider the pork chops, chicken, seafood and sushi, there is certainly something for everyone. With that being said, you know you still came for the bone-in Ribeye! Even though the salad looks like something you wouldn't want to serve at home, it is deliciously the best basic salad. I think the hiding bacon takes it over the top. The only real drawback is the Rewards program. I am not sure how many times or how much we have spent there, I would have thought that we are overdue for some kind of kick back by now. Hopefully it isn't 30k points for a free porterhouse. Oh, and I almost forgot, be sure to save space in the car to take home a serving of the World's Greatest Dessert. I know you won't have any room for it right after dinner, but you still want it brought to the table in it's original form, so you can loose sight of the person across from you. Hands down one of the best places I have ever ate. It's a salad, but it is the best salad you will ever eat. The house dressing is amazing. My wife had the filet which was phenomenal, she was extremely impressed. Tender and bursting with flavor. I had lobster tail Oscar style and it was fabulous. I also ordered a Evan Williams single barrel w/Pepsi it was also on point. Great experience glad I finally got to go. It's a little pricey but I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for so price did not bother me. Waiter was great also. The atmosphere is perfect. Business lunch here today with 20 people. We had our own long table in a semi private area of the restaurant. The place is known for steaks and they had an snacking variety of beef options that made you salivate just reading the descriptions. The service was very good and they didn't ever fill your beverage including coffee but brought you a fresh cup or glass every time. Each meal comes with an endless house salad and one side. The house salad is delicious and cones out in a chilled bowl yo share with 1 other person. Your salad bowl is also ice cold. The bread and seasoned butter was delicious as well. Okay so all of this and we haven't even gotten to our meal yet. I had the twin filets Rockefeller medium rare. It came out perfectly cooked sitting on a bed of Au jus. Yummy. The filets could be cut with a fork. I got the loaded baked potato as my side and split that with a coworker who got the grilled asparagus. I've been to Malone's over a hundred times now, and I can honestly say that it is one of my all-time favorite restaurants to go to. I will admit that the source of my adoration is heavily influenced by a large dose of nostalgia, but I truly believe Malone's quality is unrivaled in Lexington. In fact, I've craved Malone's no matter where I've lived and no matter how many good steak houses I've been surrounded by - and that's been plenty places since I've left Lexington, KY after graduation. It's probably easier to talk about the things I don't like about Malone's than the things I do - the "likes" list is too long. My primary gripe (if you can call it that) is they sometimes remove things from the menu that I love. I understand they need to keep the menus fresh, and they obviously know what is moving in the restaurant far better than I do, but it's a real bummer to go in for your favorite appetizer or sides only to be let down. I never deviate from the steak on the menu... I'm one of those folks that believe it's silly to go to a steak house and not order their specialty unless you have a strong reason not to. To me, going to Malone's and not ordering a steak is like going to Italy and seeking a Taco Bell - granted, Malone's does have some pretty amazing other entrees that I have tried (seafood, sushi, etc.). As with any restaurant that you go to enough (as I have with Malone's), you are bound to encounter n an evening or afternoon where they aren't on their game - I certainly have. That being said, I'm a huge fan of judging a place by how they handle situations that need a remedy, and every time I've had either bad service or something was wrong with an item I was served, it has always been promptly rectified. In my opinion, Lexington is extremely fortunate to have this gem of a place. For the price, you can't beat the quality and the ambiance is perfect for just about any occasion. read more

This location has really gone down. I frequent this restaurant and use take out often. Last sit down, club sandwich was greasy, took over 20 min to get food, manager came by and gave a weak apology as he was walking away. Today, I ordered sushi and a salad. I was give the wrong dressing for salad, and the nY roll was skimpy with the tuna on top. Such a shame. read more

So I came here for the first time ever, I've heard such good things about this steakhouse that I knew that I would have a good time. We were greeted at the door by the lovely staff and I let them know my reservation and was promptly seated. The waiter that was assigned to us was very cordial and let us know of his waiter assistant that would also be helping us. The walls are filled with autographs of different celebrities and the bar area is so beautiful with light shelves shining trough the bottle of bourbon and whiskeys. Appetizer: King Crab Cocktail: large chunks of King Crab, served with cocktail sauce and a mustard sauce. This was really good the crab pieces were large and very succulent and the two dipping sauce both gave two different distinct and unique experiences Cocktail: Clean snap: Effen Vodka, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, cranberry juice This was a very crisp and clean tasting the lemon juice paired with cranberry to honestly make it taste like grapefruit it was very good! Salad: The Lexingtonian is so over rated, it's a simple salad with iceberg lettuce, romaine, tomatoes and bacon With ranch I don't know why they hyped the salad so much it's ok. Dinner: Filet Mignon with Grilled Shrimp- cooked to Medium Rare This was a soft and delicate texture of beef it was seasoned really well and was a good portion of 6oz. It came with one side the Broccoli Florets, which were hearty and season with pepper and salt. Slow roasted Prime Rib- cooked to Medium Rare. Side of herby au Jus, horse radish cream & sautéed mushrooms. First the mushrooms were delicious, probably the best part of the entire meal. Secondly I asked for them to not give me the horseradish cream twice and was given it to me twice, I wanted raw horseradish. The steak was extremely disappointing, not only did it taste as it were originally frozen but it was definitely not slow roasted. There was this grey layer of skin on the outside ring of the steak that was so tough. The fat was not rendered at all and you couldn't taste anytype of seasoning. I've had some amazing slow roasted Prime Rib before and this was sinewy and very tough to eat. Do not get this, it's not worth the disappointment and the 45$ price tag. I was expecting a high quality piece of meat expertly crafted into an amazing meal but this center piece to my meal left me wanting so much more. We chose not to do desserts after trying to enjoy the Prime rib, I didn't want anything else from this place. I will come back and just order the filet next time. I have one other complaint so I asked the waiter if they had a bottle of port and they did have one in the cellar which was a 10 year Taylor Fladgate. They were asking 80$ for the entire bottle! There is another restaurant in town that carries a 30 year for the same price, it's over priced! I'm actually very surprised that people have never complained about it before. If you're going to come here only order the Filet Mignon, the fish I've heard is really good too! Our overall experience was about 3 to 4 stars. But I was expecting a better experience with the slow roasted Prime rib. Just do yourself the favor and don't get that. I will return in the future and hope to have my experience turned around, and I'll be sure to only order the filet next time. read more

I was t actually planning on eating at Malone's, but The universe apparently had plans for me. OBC was packed and I thought I was walking into Drakes (the doors are right next to each other). I was dining alone so I just grabbed a bar seat. I was promptly greeted and ordered a glass of wine. Hot fresh Bread was brought to me right away. I ordered the filet (medium) with blackened shrimp, whipped potatoes and a side of mushrooms. The lexingtonian salad came out right after I ordered and it was amazing. A huge bowl and lots of crispy bacon!! Then my steak came. It was so absolutely perfect. The perfect amount of char to season to juiciness. Unreal. I have had steak at many places across the country and Malone's is definitely at the top of the list. I will dream about this steak and will absolutely be returning! Made reservations for our Anniversary and they did NOT disappoint! I hadn't been there in years & my husband had never been, so it was quite the treat. My husband had the Prime Ribeye, cooked "medium-well plus", and it was cooked to perfection. I had Coach Cal's Chicken and it was amazing. The bottomless salad was simple but delicious..included fresh crumbled bacon. For dessert, we had Creme Brûlée & Coconut Cream Pie - both were perfect. My ONLY complaint is that in our Open Door reservation we had made far in advance, we had asked for a quieter area of the restaurant.. we did arrive early but the restaurant was not busy at all. The person seating us seemed annoyed with our request and proceeded to seat us by the bar & entrance to Drake's even though there were a ton of other tables open that would've been MUCH quieter. Our table was probably in the busiest/noisiest area in the place. lol He was incredibly rude, but we laughed it off.. maybe he was having a bad day? Why is it so hard for a server to bring an order correctly. I ordered swordfish plain, just broiled. Well out came my fish covered in "stuff". The server took it back. By the time the correct order came out I was no longer hungry. One of the people I was dining with shared his fried shrimp with me. The manager or some one, asked me if I wanted to take it with me. We came back. It was a gift from a family member, so I didn't raise a fuss. Lexingtonian salad was fine, as expected. The bread was again quite good. The service was across the board solid and very attentive. I didn't get a drink (see above). I got a medium filet and king crab. The filet was a tiny thing, but it was pink in the middle as ordered. A sizable portion of the outside of it was charred black. The char taste stuck with you. Not good. It was also oversalted. The side item I got the first time we came here was mac and cheese. It was dismal, so this time I ordered broccoli, which was overcooked and way oversalted. The king crab was fine. For dessert, I got the apple pecan crisp, which was pretty good. The ice cream that came with it was fine. Coffee was average. Now I can say with almost total confidence that I'll never come back here, even if you're buying. read more

I visited Malone's for the first time at the suggestion of a co-worker to celebrate my dad's birthday while my parents were in town for a visit. He's a very meat and potatoes kind of guy, so I figured I couldn't go wrong. We made a reservation, and arrived on time, so was a little disappointed that - even though there were plenty of tables open - they made us wait about 15 minutes to be seated. It just seemed a little strange. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable, and made sure that we got water and bread right away. He answered all of our questions, and got our order taken right away. I appreciated that they had people bringing food/drinks out when they were ready, rather than needing to wait for our server to be available to run it out to us when he was done checking on his other tables. My mom and dad both ordered the filet mignon, and I ordered the prime rib. The Lexingtonian salad that comes with everything is AMAZING and it was so hard not to fill up on it before getting our meals! Let me tell you, our steaks were cooked to perfection. My dad said it was probably one of the top five steaks he's ever had in his life, and that's saying something! The ambiance left something to be desired - it was INCREDIBLY dark. It was so dark that we could hardly see our menus, which was unfortunate. We mentioned this to our server, but I'm not sure there was anything he could do. When our reservations for our wedding anniversary at the establishment half a mile down the road got cancelled due to rain, we picked up take out from Malone's and enjoyed a delightful candlelight dinner on our porch. From the delicious crab Rangoon roll to our salmon and twin filets entrees, everything was perfect. They remembered all special instructions and sauces. First visit. In town for a show at Kentucky Horse Park. Service was good but food was sub par. Ordered a medium rare ribeye that needed be cooked a lot more to be considered rare (it was raw and chewy plus good steaks shouldn't be covered in tenderizing salt... nasty) Creamed spinach side was indescribably bad. Looked more like a soup. Taste was worse than the appearance. I can only hope I can find a better $50 steak in town. Maybe just a bad night but I won't be going back. This is a few weeks overdue, but still. My mother and I went in 2 Friday's ago, she had driven down from Milford, Oh, and I had just ended my shift across town. It was a bit slower for a Friday then I remember. But the college semester hadn't began yet, so it was understandable. Anyway, the food was good as always. But our waiter, Daniel Shirley, was well above "top shelf". Any issue we may have had (example, my mother asked for her asparagus grilled, and it came out steamed. A simple mistake, no biggie), BOOM! He jumped in without missing a beat, and corrected it. She has never really tried sushi before, at least the raw kind (the only REAL kind). But she was feeling adventurous, and loved the roll he recommended (the Kentucky roll, by the way). And throughout the night, checked up on us just enough to where we didnt feel overwhelmed, nor did we feel ignored. And at one point, he even came over and entertained us with little stories of his time in the Marines. We all know what to expect from Malone's, the food never really changes. It's the atmosphere that brings me and my little group of people back. And you can bet, we'll be asking to sit in his section next time. Went with some friends for some prime rib, we ordered 3 appetizers. Fried calamari, buffalo shrimp and the beef carpaccio. The appetizers were outstanding! Ordered a couple of old fashions, they were not very good. Weak tasting mixed with water or something. When it came time for entrees, we tried to order prime rib, but they were out, understanding we came pretty late. Then we tried to order the prime rib eye, and shockingly they were out. So we ended up with the bone in ribeye, $30 more dollars than what we originally intended on ordering. Oh well good steaks are worth the price, right? It would of been worth the price had the steaks been good, there was no char or crust on the outside, steaks were too salty. But it was cooked right temp. This is definitely my favorite steakhouse in Lexington. From the fried lobster tail to an impressive sushi list (for a steakhouse) there is no shortage of appetizers to choose from. The salads we ordered were all exceptional: Thai Chicken; Quinoa and Kale; and the Blue Cheese With Apple. I think the quinoa kale is the same as offered at OBC Kitchen located in the same strip mall. As for sides, this place has some of the best whipped mashed potatoes we've ever tasted. We joked that when we come back, we'll just order the whipped mashed, they're that good. Oh, and the steak selection is one of the best around. Highly recommended! read more
