We did carry out at Malone's to celebrate our anniversary. They did a great job. They were very well organized to handle carry out with their usual excellent food. Driving in they had a special pickup areas. People greeted you and confirmed your order. You could also text them your name and parking spot as well. Probably 10-12 cars taking advantage of this. Everything was great! Steak cooked perfectly, fresh shrimp appetizers. Salad was excellent. We have used 5 restaurants for carry out this month. I have eaten lunch at Malone's twice this week. In one meal I had the Lexingtonian salad with broiled chicken breast. Today, I had Coach Cal's lemon chicken. In both instances the chicken was so salty I could barely eat it. One of my lunch companions at the first meal, ordered the Steak and Potato soup. It was even more briny and totally inedible. Today my family of eight had reservations for lunch at Malone's for Father's Day. (Landsdowne Drive) After two hours we had not received our dinners .When the dinners arrived , one dinner came without the sides and the Calipari steak was so undercooked it was inedible . Our waiter ignored us for 45 minutes and I had to go to the hostess stand for assistance . The very nice manager heard me explain the situation to the hostess. I was impressed with the steps she took to rectify this situation . The manager's customer recovery skills were incredible. I will give Malone's another try only because of the actions of the manager. read more

I don't know if it's surprising or not that this is the best place to get sushi in Lexington. On one hand, it's a steakhouse but on the other hand, it's very $$$. I've found the sushi here to always be fresh, delicious, well-made, and not needing any extras like soy sauce or ginger or wasabi. Most recently I had the Chicago roll, which has cooked filet inside rolled up, and the Philly roll with salmon. I've also had the dragon roll and rainbow rolls as well. Even when you get it to go, you still get a whole loaf of bread with butter and even more recently, a bottle of water! The rolls are a typical size where 1 roll isn't enough for a meal and 2 rolls are then a little too much. Very delicious and about $20 for two rolls. Reliably great sushi you can trust! read more

I've always been a fan of Malones. I think some of the attention to detail has slipped as they've opened more locations. We generally come to Tates creek as it is the original. I love the Lexingtonian salad. It has to be the best homemade ranch hands down. The steak prices have definitely increased a lot in the past couple years as the 8 oz filet is now around 35.00. We use to splurge on our anniversary each year for this but now I just do the twin filets as those are just as delicious. The Mac n Cheese is so cheesy and scrumptious! They have a great salmon dish That I enjoy as well. A little tip is you can ask for a Lexintonian salad to go after your dinner and they will pack it up nice and put the bacon, tomatoes and ranch in separate containers and boom! This was a great place ten years ago--really good food at a reasonable price. Well, the food is still pretty good, but nothing exceptional. And the prices have gone way up. Another local restaurant that had great food and ambience, degraded into just another expense-account steakhouse. The only thing that's missing is the cigar room, and for all I know, they've got one of those in back. Malone's is one of those restaurants that displays autographs from all the famous people who have ever eaten there, including a number of people you've never heard of. This practice has always struck me as pretentious and self-congratulatory. I don't care if Joe Schmoe ate there fifteen years ago--all I want is good food, good service, and a reasonable price. I ate here tonight alone as I am in town for business and I love this place! I came last time I was in Lexington and it never disappoints. I made a reservation for one, because you never know, and was seated in a nice booth. To start they bring you warm bread with this AMAZING butter. I don't know what's in that stuff but it's so good. Then they bring out their signature salad which I love, I'm a simple salad girl so this is a great option for those who don't like anything too crazy. A great dressing, bacon, and tomatoes. They even bring it on a chilled plate! I ordered the 6oz sirloin and the baked potato as my side. The potato is perfect served loaded and my steak was cooked great. Overall, this place has been fabulous each time I've come. Amazing food, good service, and great steak! I'll always come back whenever I'm in Lexington. Malones is a stable of Lexington restaurants, it consistently has above average food and short lines. Nothing about the restaurant would stand out to a visitor to Lexington, the food is not exquisite the service is average, but it is a safe choice every time. Ordering a meal to go, however, is an entirely different experience. If you don't know what you want right away, or have questions, just don't bother. The workers that pick up the phone expect to be done with you as soon as possible. They rarely even say the typical "thank you for dining at Malones" or a thank you at all really. And then when you get the food, half the time they've messed at least a part of your order up. Overall, if visiting Lexington and looking for a steakhouse with manageable prices, Malones is the way to go. However, if you are looking for a fancy night out, it's better to look downtown for the restaurants that don't have people in sweatpants eating at them. read more

Tonight I decided I like J Alexander's better than Malones,not vice versa as I'd previously felt. Malone's is good but the menu is lifeless. My shrimp pasta was too salty maybe because they didnt wash the kalamata olives before adding so many of them to the sauce garnish. The crab dip entree was delicious,but the bread was so chewy you couldnt enjoy the taste of the crab,trying not to choke on ungnawed bread. My wife loved the halibut. The Old Fashioned with Malone's private cask Maker's Mark was $17,the most I've ever paid anywhere for a call drink anywhere. It was $6 more than the Old Fashioned with Maker's 46. We had an event to attend in Lexington and needed to fit in a birthday lunch so we did a little research online and picked Malone's. We arrived right at their opening time of 11:15 am. We immediately sensed that they were ready to go....none of that rushing at the last minute scuttle. The place had a lot of patrons within the hour, obviously a local favorite. The four of us were sat at a booth and we kept having to consolidate food in order to get rid of plates in order to have enough room. I really liked that water automatically came to the table. We started out with the baked potato fondue. Very yummy and enough to dip the excellent bread into as well. The Lexingtonian salad is worth getting. Tasted fresh, was good and cold and it is bottomless. Steaks were cooked perfectly to order. The baked potato... Huge! One of our party got a club and said it was one of the best clubs they had ever had. Service was professional, efficient and accurate. We NEVER had to ask for drink refills. The menu has a good selection of pricey high end steaks if you want to splurge and yet more modestly priced fare if you don't want to spent that much money. Awesome! Malone's was great. I had heard lots of good things about it and decided to give it a try. I wish I hadn't waited so long to try it! I had the Kobe burger. It was cooked a perfect medium rare, and came with some pretty good fries (the usual crinkle cuts). However, to start the meal off, we had their spinach and artichoke dip with ravioli chips. This was probably one of the greatest things I've ever ate anywhere!!!! I don't really have any negatives about it. The servers were very nice, and were very willing to help in any way. Every so often, Malone's falls into the restarant rotation. My boyfriend loves their bottomless chopped salad. Usually, it's way too over-dressed for me. This time, it was perfect which made it much lighter and more crisp than. The mashed potatoes are always good and creamy, although there's never enough for me. (How about bottomless mashed potatoes!) The steak was a strange triangular piece of meat that was supposed to be the sirloin. It was dry and rather tasteless. This is the second time the steak, which should have been the star, was disappointingly less than stellar. I think Malone's is resting on its laurels and, for me, is no longer Lexington's place for steak. read more

Anywhere you sit you can order from all three restaurants. Most people recognize Malone's for their steak. A friend and I ordered Sushi from the Aqua bar from sitting in the bar area near the big tv screens airing the football games. Nice little place. My wife and I came in after doing some of the KY Bourbon Trail, and heard good things about Malone's. Our server was nice, and explained anything we had questions about. The garlic butter was fantastic on the bread, and the steak and potato soup was KILLER. We both had a Filet Mignon, and it was prepared and cooked perfectly. Our company had a private dinning event here and it exceeded my expectations! It was very nice and very impressive! There was a set menu for private dinning, which usually don't like, but it went over very well! So a friend took me to Lexington and told me this was a must go to! It's at the top of the list for native Lexingtonians (I made that up. But with all the Southern hospitality, I don't think they'll mind!) So here's my tip, it's a steak place, of course it can get pricey and in the evenings you'll need to dress up a bit. So, if you want the experience, in a more relaxed atmosphere, go for lunch! We went for lunch and chose to sit in their outdoor patio bar, called Drake's. They'll even bring you the same menu from inside if you'd like. But trust me, you won't need it. Their bar bites aren't typical bar bites, they're entire meals, freshly made with fresh meat and veggies and everything else. The menu has salads, soups and plenty of sliders. You get three sliders and fries as a typical portion. The cool thing is these aren't your typical sliders. My friend ordered buffalo chicken sliders. The heat level was just perfect! The chicken was fresh and the seasoning was honestly great; probably my favorite buffalo chicken I've ever had! I ordered beer battered fish. Again it was great! The tartar sauce is on the side which was a nice touch. The fish didn't get soggy. The patio outside is covered and there's plenty of tvs The tables are very ample and the chairs are sturdy constructed such that your legs don't just dangle at the high tops. There's a little fire circle too, I'm sure it's a blast in the fall. If I were to identify a weakness, I would say it's the service. Our server wasn't overly attentive and it wasn't very full. But my friend who spent years in college working there assured me inside, the service is top notch. We may have just caught the server on an off day. read more

The service was absolutely horrendous. Stephanie took forever to bring drinks out, we had to ask for our bread and it was served the same time as our meals. Our salads were brought 5 minutes after our meal arrived. She barely checked on us and we constantly were asking for refills, had to ask for our steak knives, etc. We ordered a medium rare ribeye and it was extremely rare. Ordered an old fashioned and was just a straight glass of bourbon with a large cube. When we questioned if this was an old fashioned she said she couldn't put orange or cherry bc of COVID but there were lemons in our water? On top of that I still believe an old fashioned has bitters and simple syrup shaken on multiple ice cubes... Food was decent but my last experience was way better. This location was the first established Malone's. It's smaller than the other newer locations, but the food is just as good. I prefer the other locations because you can order from the Harry's menu, but not at this location. So, if I'm feeling like a sandwich and fries which my dinner party is eating on their cow, my options are few on the Malone's menu... not to worry though because they do allow you order from the Drake's menu which is another Blue Grass Hospitality restaurant that is attached to Malone's. We were there for dinner when just before we arrived our van broke down. We had it on loan from a friend and we were now stranded. The manager here was so kind. Their courtesy shuttle took our son back to campus for a final exam, and then took us to our hotel. We were so grateful!!
