I had kalbi burrito and its not worth paying over $11!!! There were really small portion of meat in the burrito that I had 3-4 bites of meat total out of this big burrito. I asked for light beans but there was still big portion of beans. Burrito is pretty heavy so I was excited about having it but it turned out to be a lot of beans and rice.. Not even close to having enough meat. Meat was really small pieces and chewy at the same time. Also, it didn't taste like korean bbq. I'm a korean from korea so I know how food should taste like when it comes to korean bbq. If this burrito is sold in korea nobody would buy them.. I'm just disappointed the fact that they are selling this food saying its korean food... They should do better than this for sure. read more

They lost me as a customer when they stopped selling the wings by itself. I used to go at least once per week. Prices are already high and now if you want the wings, you have to get the rice with it also, which makes it more expensive. So let me get this right, Mama Cho's is willing to lose out on about $23 per week just to try and make an extra few bucks by forcing you to eat their rice. Not a smart business move at all. My husband and I were so surprised to see that the store is located inside the Public Market. The place is huge and clean with just about 5 eateries in the building. As you enter, there's a sink and soap to wash your hands. As for the food that Mama Cho's serves, it's amazing! My husband ordered Spicy Pork Burrito while I ordered their Bulgogi lunch. It was amazing. They even have a mini grocery for Korean food. It's a place to check out and experience. To top it all, they can do catering for parties. We love Mama Cho's!! We were so excited t see this place when we first moved into the neighborhood. The food reminded us of the awesome food spots we left behind in SF. The people who work here are so friendly and the food is consistently great! Our 2 year old eats everything from here! Even the bean sprouts, which are his favorite. Can't go wrong with the rice plates and the mama cho nachos are so tasty. You would be surprised that the kimchi just works. They also have a little shop area with lots of goodies like Asian candies, and other specialty market foods. Checked out the Mama Cho's Hot Kitchen soft launch on Monday. I went with a few friends around 1:30pm, and the marketplace was pretty busy (to be expected at lunch hour on a holiday) First, the service was great; I asked for a recommendation, and the gentleman behind the counter suggested the spicy pork and kalbi. Ordered the spicy pork, chicken and kalbi tacos; amazing!! All were delicious, but the spicy pork and kalbi were the stand outs. Even with the crowd, the staff managed to stay friendly and organized. I checked out the meat counter while I was waiting, and the selection and quality is amazing! Definitely will coming back for all of my bbq needs; lots of un-marinated and marinated options! Good value! Had a meeting nearby and a friend told me about the public market so I stopped in. To my surprise I find a Korean BBQ place?! Really nice guys and it's their mom's picture on the T shirt. Had the spicey pork and Kal bi tacos. Pork was good but Kal bi was better tasting, but $5.50 for the Kal bi taco seemed a bit much. Also had the sweet potato tots for $3 and super tasty. I finished my ramen at Shumi on the other side of the market and thought I'd try out Mama Cho's to take home some food for an early dinner later on. I figured I'd be better off getting the burrito (just in case the tacos weren't that filling) and I ordered it with the kalbi for $2 extra. After I ordered the cashier said it'd take 10-15 minutes but looking around, there wasn't much of anyone in front of me waiting. Luckily I was right and it only took a couple of minutes (it's just strange that he said it'd take that long). When I finally got to eat the burrito later it was pretty good. All the ingredients seemed to work out well with the white rice, cheese and avocado too. I was a bit worried about the kimchi (I like it but not too much) and it had the perfect amount to accent and not overpower. The kalbi was good but I think I should've stuck with the spicy pork at no extra cost. My problem, then? The burrito came out to more than $13! It was good-sized but still, that's a lot of money for a burrito to go even with today's inflation. As good as it was, it was hard to justify that price. I'd like to out the meat from the butcher next time though. All the different meats looked fresh and the prices were very reasonable. read more

I love mama Cho's. We used to buy marinated korean meats here and grill them at home. Its only been recent that they incorporated cooked food in their menu. I only tried the jalapeño poppers and its sooo good! I will try their korean burritos and tacos next. We got the kalbi burrito and the bulgogi cheese steak, with a side of sweet potato tater tots. The cheese steak looked impressively big, but once folded in 1/2 was a better-than-average cheese steak (slightly pricer). The burrito was not what I would call a korean burrito. It tasted more mexican, but with the addition of barely noticeable kimchi and kalbi. I wish it tasted more Korean and had less "filler" rice/beans. It definitely could have used more meat. Stopped by today and ordered a spicy pork taco, chicken burrito, and sweet potato tots. The best thing I ate were the sweet potato tots. The taco was ok. I really would have like either more kim chi in it or some pickled daikon. While the overall taste was good, the daikon or kim chi would have made the taco much better. There was plenty of meat in it, that's for sure. I didn't think that the pork was that spicy. My husband had the chicken burrito. It was ok. He said the taste was more mexican than korean. It was a good sized burrito. Needed crunch from daikon or something. The sweet potato tots were delicious. They are served with a garlic aoli. The aoli would have been better on the taco and burrito. I liked the taste of the sweet potato plain. The combination of aoli and sweet potato was better than I thought. If we didn't get enough kim chi because we are older white people, don't judge on appearance. We love Korean food, and we especially like kim chi, daikon, and all those other spicy delights that are served with bulgogi, etc. read more

I was really excited to try this place but unfortunately it was very disappointing due to very small portions. We ordered the rice plate with spicy pork and we paid the extra $2 to get the LA style short ribs. When we got our order, they only gave us 3 pieces of about 2inches of LA short ribs. Why did we have to pay an extra $2 if that's all they are going to give us? There was also barely any spicy pork and they were even stingy with the rice!. The only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 is because the short ribs were tasty. I wouldn't recommend this place, we paid $14 for our small portion of rice plate, not worth it! This place is great. They don't have a big amount of variety but sometimes that works well. When I go, I know for sure I am not going to take a long time making my lunch choice LOL... I have had their Korean beef rib burrito twice, and their cheesesteak sandwich... Both were super delicious... Oh and a can't miss is their sweet potato tots.... Nom Nom Nom... They are working out some of the details of their business and are happy to take new ideas and food options. I had some of their garlic onion rice on the side and it was amazing... After much digging and poking, I was able to dissect maybe 5 to 6 minuscule bits of grey, gristly, bulgogi. They also shorted me on the kimchi. Much sadness. Fantastic service deserves 5 stars, friendly explanation of the different items and patient while we ordered. Food highlight was the cheese steak style sandwich. Tons of chicken and cheese, fresh veggies, tasty marinade. Don't take it home - the bread was soaked through and the paper wrapping stuck to the sides. Garlic fries were fresh made and crispy, but I think they use pre-chopped in-a-jar garlic, which tasted a bit funky. No parsley or herbs, just fries and garlic. However, the super disappointment was that the burger we got was significantly smaller than the bun. Probably an inch gap all around. For the price that was not expected. Also don't recommend taking this home, bun got soaked and most was inedible with the burger itself. So much potential! Would love to try other things, just not as satisfied with the garlic fries or the burger. read more
