Yummy, authentic, better than your chain restaurant italian food! Of course it was featured on the Food Network's Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives making it a must go to place. Made a reservations to come here with about 10 of my closest friend and when we arrived they had the table all ready for us! Yay no wait! Anyways we ordered and ordered and ordered so many dishes I cannot quite remember what they were. An overflow of tomato sauce, pasta, and mozzarella cheese can be a bit overwhelming. hehe Since one of my friends hate tomato sauce (gasp, I know) he ended up ordering the chicken alfredo with angel hair pasta (I think) and we all got to take a bit and omgosh it was heaven! Thick creamy white sauce with slices of grilled chicken breast. Wow it was the sauce that really got me. Out of all the dishes we ordered, this was the only one I remember! The portions are enough for one person with a big appetite, otherwise in my case I would have shared. Family style is possible if you order a bunch of dishes like we did. They gave you these veggie plate appetizer thing. There was one thing that confused me though, I was not sure if they were for decoration or for eating but on the table they had breadsticks in cups and they looked really cute but I wasn't sure if they had been sitting out long? We didn't ask the waitress, but some of my friends ate them so I'm guessing it was okay. hehe Price was decent. Ambiance is homey. But since it was lunchtime they closed half of the restaurant so it looked pretty small. I'm guessing during dinner is when they will open up the whole place. A bit dim inside. There was a keyboard in the room, so live music at night I'm thinking, which can be pretty entertaining. Our waitress was really nice though, she even recommended some of her favorite dishes. 1st time visit...saw it on Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives. But having lived in the OC my whole life I've heard about it but had just never gone. Went on a Saturday just before 1pm & it was pretty empty. Service was very slow. Was sitting at the table for quite some time before the server came to take our drink order. Once drinks were brought, we immediately placed our order. Had the linguini with white clam sauce, salad & minestrone. The minestrone was great..rich broth, pasta cooked perfectly, veggies in the soup were perfect...tender yet not soggy at all. Not much to say about the salad..it was fine. Entree came...large portion, lots of clams, however, it appeared that the clams were canned, not fresh. if you are hungry for tasty Italian food do not go to Mama Cozzas . The spaghetti is missing sauce, the Eggplant Parmesan is unrecognizable and bland. I could have gone to a local supermarket ; bought frozen food and it would have tasted the same. The service was perfect, the Friday night musicians are delightful.\ There is a lunch coupon in the Register every week. The prime rib beef dip is a excellent choice in my book. Has great amount of toppings and a gererous portion of cheese to go on a finely cooked thin/crispy crust. Because of the amount of cheese that tops this pizza (and depending on what toppings you get) it tends to be a little greasy. This becomes evident once you start to see it drip down your chin. We love Italian food, we love Anaheim and we love Mama Cozza's. It is the kind of dank whole in the wall that just oozes "comfort food". This is a great place to come for dinner when you are hungry! For a starter, they serve an antipasto plate of celery, carrots, peppers and pickles. The main dishes come with soup or salad, bread (garlic bread or sourdough rolls), and pasta on the side. I like to get the build-your-own pasta while my husband gets gnocchi. After dinner, they bring you Anisette (a shot of licorice liqueur) and oranges. The pizza is delicious too with a nice thin crust. I usually opt for the sourdough rolls,which are tastier than the garlic bread and soup which is always delicious. I've been coming to Mama Cozzas since I was 8 years old. I'm now 48! and I've never lived in Anaheim. so I travel for their pizza. They have the best pizza I've ever had. My fave is the traditional pepperoni, The crust is perfect, not too thin not too thick. the sauce is also perfect. Not too acidic, not too sweet. The cheese is the best, and they blanket the pepperoni with it. Meaning the pepperoni is beneath the cheese. I've had other items, pasta , salads, appetizers. But for me its the pizza. Ate here for the first time last night...now one of my favorite places! Can't wait to go back & try more! I am SHOCKED at all these bad reviews, it seems like a lot of people either don't know what good quality food tastes like (this isn't Olive Garden crap) or just have super high standards & thought this place was like a "fancy" Italian restaurant? It's not fancy, but has an a really nice old-school / homey feel to it, which I loved! Our waitress was very friendly & had a good sense of humor. I went there with my boyfriend & his parents, we all ordered different pasta meals (which came with soup AND salad..woot woot), & we decided to all split a small pizza as an "appetizer" (clearly we came with a big appetite). The food all came out in perfect timing! First the soup: I had the Minestrone Soup (which I've never had before), SUPER good & very hot. Then she brought out our small pizza to share: we got the Mama's Special which pretty much has everything on it, again...SUPER good, very hot haha. [And our waitress was nice enough to cut the pizza for us & serve out each slice to us.] Then right when we finished the pizza, she brought out our salads: I just had a house salad with ranch, good & tasted fresh (I didn't finish it all because I wanted to save room for my pasta). Finally our main courses came out, along with garlic bread (again, RIGHT after we finished our salads...we never sat around waiting for our food, they were on top of it!): I got the Mostaccioli with Vodka Sauce....OMG, exactly what I was craving all day! SO good & creamy! And of course like all our other items, piping hot! (I love my food spicy to I added a TON of red pepper flakes...made it even better). The portions were huge, none of us could finish our meals...so we're all having left overs for lunch today :) Between the four of us, we each had: 2 glasses of wine, soup, salad, a slice of pizza (we had extra, again took it home for lunch today), pasta, & bread/bread sticks. And our bill was only $100. So $25 a person is pretty damn good for all the food we got!! So again...I have NO idea why there are so many bad reviews on here...instead of trying to figure out why, I'm just gunna come to the conclusion that people are really dumb, don't listen to them haha. I've been wanting to go to Mama Cozza's for a very long time. Then I saw the it on Triple D and it confirmed my decision to try it out. I decided to go there for lunch with my fiance. I enjoyed the ambiance, very Italian. We were greeted with a friendly and welcoming smile. We were seated and right away were given vegetables and water, breadsticks were already on the tabel. We ordered the calimari for an appetizer, which was excellent. It is in my tope 5 of calimari and I've tried alot. My fiance ordered the Veal Sinatra. He loved it. I'm not a veal person so I tried the brown sauce, it was really good, but I could taste the veal so it was ok. He thought it was excellent. I ordered spinach fettucini with Mama sauce with a side of meatballs. It was excellent, the spices blended very well and I could tast the garlic which I love. Both our meals came with a choice of soup or salad and garlic bread. My fiance got the vegetable soup which he like becasue it had a "hint of curry". I got the salad with honey mustard. Just a basic green salad with garbonzo and kidney beans. The portions were very big for lunch and we had left overs that we took home. I highly recommend Mama Cozzas. I went here last night with the family for dinner. We were excited to try this place from all the reviews it got on the Food Network's "Diner Drive-Ins & Dives". Our take on this restaurant... I would not have paid $85 + tip = $95 for the 3 entrees we had. What a disappointment in taste. I ordered a classic Veal Marsala... the flavoring was there but just not enough to "wow" me. I had better. My husband ordered the Osso Bucco. We were just salivating waiting for this dish to come out. That was the climax. It ended once he had his first bite. It was so bland, nothing stood out. No impact. My daughter had a simple Angel Hair Pasta with Pesta Sauce... this was good. The aroma and flavoring from the fresh basil was impressive. I've driven past this place for years. I should have just kept it up. Our waitress was slow and kept disappearing although other groups, especially ones with older folks seemed to be getting ok service. The food wasn't that great. I didn't care for the overpowering green pepper flavor in the marinara in the chicken parm I ordered. The prices weren't great but the portion sizes were very large. Normally I would try a place a second time before writing it off when there is such a huge disconnect between reputation and reality, but I felt so unwelcome that I am not going to bother. This was a solid Italian food spot. The meat sauce was amazing and my kids raved about the pizza. I did feel the portion was a bit small for the price. I ordered the combo plate, which consisted of lasagna that was about a 2 inch x 2 inch size, ravioli that had 5 pieces, and a bunch of penne pasta with sauce. Very disappointing. They don't know the difference between Angle Hair pasta and spaghetti . Used to eat there many years ago, loved it. Now they are cutting corners. Frank Jr. is a good guy who makes pretty good food..and I will always remember doing Cozy Cozza's for him during two a days back in high school. Having said that, Mama Cozza's is not the greatest Italian restaurant around. Cortina's is just a few minutes away and although they're menu isn't as diverse as Mama Cozza's it is the superior place to eat. Especially the pizza. Mama Cozza's pizza tastes good right up until the end and you get to the crust. The aftertaste the pizza leaves isn't enjoyable either. But the service is good..and there are a lot of worse places to eat. read more

The Oso Bucco was hands down the best I have ever had . It was delicious and the pasta and vegetables had the home made taste. It is like eating your moms cooking if she's a great cook of course . Eh, I saw this on triple D and seemed okay. Since it is down the street from my house we decided to give it a try, but the reviews on here got me a little worried. Dimly lit, homey atmosphere. Pickled appetizers eh. The prices EH. Brother got minestrone, he said he liked it. Mom got the egg drop soup and she said she liked the spinach flavor. Garlic Bread, EH unfortunately not freshly baked. Just regular toast... I had the Spinach triple cheese and chicken ravioli with Alfredo sauce. DEELISH! Pizza- sausage/pepperoni, it was great and crunchy. Mom- shrimp fresco, had huge tomato chunks bro- loved his chicken and gnocci with alfredo sauce. I heard about this place through a friend who had been coming here for years, but also because I saw it on the Food Network a week after her recommendation. Came here on a weekend night and the place was PACKED. The building is located in its own lot and is in an older area. We had to wait roughly an hour, which was ridiculous to me. The restaurant is small, although there is a banquet hall attached. They do have events where you pay to get in -- something like concerts? Not quite sure. When we were finally seated, I noticed how dated the decor was. I was hoping more for the food so I ordered right away. I ordered the combo plate, which included a bit of lasagna, mostaccioli and ravioli with the mama sauce. I figured since it was my first time, I might as well taste several items to get me a better feel for the place! The mama sauce seems really plain to me. It has a good flavor but I felt like it was too liquidy for me -- I prefer a thicker sauce. The spaghetti wasn't worth talking about at all, but the rest of it was delicious. It tastes really fresh and I just wished there was more! My boyfriend also ordered the Fettuccine, which he enjoyed -- although it looked plain to me. This review would have gotten 3.5 stars, except I also came back a second time to try their pizza. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Screw the pasta -- get the damn pizza! You can buy a pizza with pre-set toppings or just pick and choose - which is what I did. I got sausage + pepperoni + canadian bacon and it was delicious. I basically inhaled it. Spaghetti only ok but sauce clearly homemade. I found the meatballs overly dense, like the real chef was out when they were made or they were made a different day or something. Maybe if you grew up eating them that way, it's the only kind you liked. I wouldn't get them again. I found the service friendly and speedy. The kitchen a little slow, but ok. She said: I was pleased with all of our food. We received a starter dish with a few pickles, two pickled peppers, and crudité of carrots and celery. I opted for the soup and salad along with my meal. The meatball soup was absolutely delicious. Even my husband liked it and he isn't much of a soup person. The salad was okay, but a bit under-dressed (not much to it). I LOVED Mama Cozza's!!! We were leaving Disneyland after a long day, and decided to get Italian food. My boyfriend thought of this place! I had spaghetti with momma sauce and he had a combo plate of some kind with like ravioli and lasagna. I also started with a salad. Everything was super fresh (they also make their own pasta he said! BONUS) Salad and my main meal was DELISH. Service was also amazing! It's a little hole-in-the-wall-ish but I think that adds to the charm! It's been here 50 years! I've gone back and forth about my rating for this restaurant, but there are a few things that lead me to land on 3 stars. First of all, I came here with my family over this past weekend (we were visiting from out of town). We decided on Mama Cozza's because we love going to foodnetwork spots. This is clearly a family owned place with a lot of character, which is why I think so many people keep coming back. The food itself was just ok, but there were a few things I really liked. I personally loved the minestrone soup and the sausage on my pasta. I wasn't really impressed with the pasta, or the sauce, which was very tomato based with little garlic and a lot of pepper flavor. Most everyone else in our party had the eggplant parmesan or the chicken parmesan, which they all seemed to really like. I found the service to be slow for our party of 7. We waited awhile for refills on water, the check, and to order. We all had a good time though and enjoyed the overall experience, but I don't think we will make a return trip. Still undecided if this was a diner or dive... I think we landed on dive. read more

Pizza. Yes, pizza. Best pizza around. I am not a pizza freak, but their crust is just right. We always order the Mama Cozza special. Great balance and blend of many ingredients. My dad swears it's the best pizza he has ever had. On another note, I love their canolis here. They tell me they make them fresh.... and they have to. I tried saving one for the following day and my canoli went limp! (No, this is not a metaphor for anything else). Dining in is a whole other beast for me. I think it's a little pricey for the food you get, and I just feel a little off when we eat there. Staff is great and all, but I just rather get the pizza to go. Tried this place out after I found it on DDD. I'm on a mission to try every restaurant thats on the show. The service was fine and the food was good. I would like to give this place 5 stars but I'll save that for my next visit. I though the food was good but nothing that would have me say WOW! Next time I'm going to try what Guy Fieri ate. I don't know what all the bad reviews are about. The place is a bit old looking but its clean. I grew up in that neighbor hood and let me tell you, there's really no need to spend a fortune remodeling this restaurant. It would be a fish out of water. That area isn't the nicest looking area. Otherwise, its a decent neighborhood. But then again, I'm spoiled ever since I moved to Thousand Oaks (top 10 city in the US in every survey). Anyways, i'm definitely going back. read more

We have a group home and we took our 4 guys to Disneyland. My sister recommended this restaurant as the guys all wanted pizza. The pizza we ordered was half pepperoni and half combo. The guys (and us) really enjoyed the food. If I have any complaint, it's the ice tea was not very good. It tasted like bad instant tea. I admit I'm kind of a tea snob, but it always amazes me whenever any place doesn't have brewed tea, as it's so cheap and easy to make. I saw this restaurant on an episode of Diners, Drive-ins & Dives and decided to give it a try. I was so glad that I did. It opened in 1965 and is still doing a great business. Once you eat there you can see why. It is a family run restaurant with an outstanding staff. They actually care about the customers. They have a nice sized menu with something for everybody. They offer good food and excellent prices. The portions are huge. The atmosphere is fun. The décor is interesting with old pictures and things on the wall to look at. The staff is very friendly and efficient. Chris was our server and took good care of us. I will be sure to stop by every time I am in Anaheim. read more

I came to an event here which had a buffet setup in a big room. The pizza could not compare to most frozen pizza's. The salad was mediocre and the pasta was so-so. I left wondering how they stayed in business or did someone die and take their secrets and recipes with them. The bar seemed full of regular patrons and must be the reason they stay in business. The waitress was a bit pushy for me to order as soon as I arrived, then non-existent after that My drink tasted like tap water (old filters or no filter), I ordered ginger ale, which I was given sprite with a shot of coke. Parmesan chicken was overcooked, despite all the marinara and cheese it was tough and chewy I waited about 30mins for my food (maybe because they were busy overcooking it) The room wasn't too full either. The only redeeming thing about the visit was the bus boy (an older Mexican gentleman) unfortunately, I never got his name; attended me better than my absentee server, even made my soda to go and wrapped my food up before the server could bring me a box to go. My favorite pizza. My family and I have been coming to Mama Cazza's since I was a baby, and they never disappoint. We all live in outside of Orange County now, but we always come back for a family dinner before our Angel's game or whenever we want some pizza, salad, pasta, and a good time. This restaurant was a total disappointment to me and my husband. We have been told how amazing this restaurant was. We ordered the fried cheese and fried ravioli for an appetizer. Both were just meh. The jalapeño raviolis were just pillows of fried pasta. There was nothing inside. The inside must've come out while frying? As for our food. The food was tasteless. It was lacking flavor and salt. The way we were seated the servers kept bumping into our chairs. And i felt like we were in the way. The service was good, and our waitress was nice and brought everything out timely. Pizza is pretty good. I went there recently for lunch, and had a very buttery but tasty rueben sandwich. No complaints other than the abundance of grease. Two coworkers had the clam chowder, which they did not eat, due to the extreme blandness. One had the fettucini alfredo, also tasteless and uneaten. The other had an equally unpleasant marinara pasta dish. Order a sandwich, or get a pizza, but steer clear of the past sauces and soups. read more

Comfortably casual, quaint, and cozy. There was, indeed, plenty of food. Thank goodness, I agreed to share my entree. Served with a tasty minestrone soup AND crisp salad, AND warm bread, AND (a generous bowl of) pasta; the server was correct in saying we wouldn't go home hungry. My Chicken Pisano had a nice mixture of flavors (I liked the hint of jalapenos throughout); however, I think I would order one of their pastas with a cream sauce next time. I like that one can bring their own bottle of wine to accompany the meal. Our server was very friendly and pleasant -- impressively unrushed, allowing us to take our time. The only occurence that bothered me was when serving the cake we brought (which was so nice that they allowed us to do that), upon slicing the dessert, our server used her bare hands (the entire palm side) to transfer the slices onto our dessert plates!
