This bún bò huế restaurant is terrible. I dined here last week... very first time. I rate this restaurant 1 out of 10. The WORST restaurant in town. 1) Their beef is very thinly sliced and crumbled pieces. NOT much meat. The pork chunk is also thin... only 1 inch thin; they are supposed to be a thick chunk like a size of an orange. 2) The blood curds tasted old... there are holes every where on the cubes that's how you know they are old. 3) They gave very tiny amount of noodles in the bún bò huế. They filled the bowl with Only half a bowl of broth. The broth was supposed to be full to the rims of the bowl. 4) They did NOT check back to see if I needed anything. After watching Ben Ngu's video on YouTube, I'm going to check out this location with my family because I'm visiting Garden Grove. We arrived on Saturday afternoon and were the first customers there. After we arrived, people began to arrive, and the various tables quickly filled up. I believe that everywhere we go, we bring customers to the store, therefore if you want to be busy with customers, contact me. Anyway, we ordered a lot of food, and the one my family and I enjoyed the most was number 13 on the menu, which is named Banh It Kep Banh Nam. It consists of steam mochi dumplings filled with pork and shrimp, topped with ground shrimp and scallion, served over fried mochi dumplings with fish sauce. We enjoy this dish a lot. The portion was generous and the inside actually had a good amount of filling (pork slices and small whole shrimp), compared to other places! It was made fresh, so the bottom was also well crisped. Ordered the Banh Ram It because we were in Orange county on our way to San Diego and were craving it. Saw an Instagram social media influencer talking about it and decided to check it out. So glad we did! Called ahead and guy said it would be ready to pick up in 30 minutes. We also ordered the Banh Beo and decided to try it too, because my son loves those from Banh Beo Tolan in San Jose. Oh my goodness, the Banh Ram It were HUGE! The only ones we've ever had were from Hue Restaurant in San Jose, and these were like twice that size. The only thing was, they were just a little too crunchy/hard on the bottom. Had they been cooked/fried a little less, it would've been 5 stars. But the inside was chewy and filled with savory shrimp and pork belly. Each was served with fish sauce and chili. Wow, Delicious though!! The banh beo was really good too, and I thought that because they didn't scatter dried shrimp between each layer, that there would be banh beo without any shrimp on it, but that was not the case. If you are wondering the difference between the 10 piece banh beo chenand the banh beo in the number 8 combo. There is a big difference. The Chen option is much thicker and can tell is freshly made. The combo banh beo you get 3x the amount but they are thinner and not as satisfying. You might not think 10 thicker ones will get you full but I promise it was a satisfying amount. Our family has been going to Bên Ngu for Bun Bo Hue so many years as it's been consistently good. But in the last few months, we couldn't help but noticed something has changed with their recipe. It is now overly sweet and lacks lemongrass fragrance and flavor which is a defining characteristic of BBH. After watching all the YouTubers dining here and reading reviews about Ben Ngu, I decided to try it out today. :) Had the Mi Quang. It was actually very good. Generous portion of protein, which included pork, 3 large shrimps, and fish cake. The bowl was filled with a good amount of braised pork, chopped up into small pieces, perfectly seasoned and very tender and delicious. The shrimp and fish cake were also very tasty. I ordered the small size bowl and couldn't even finish it! I love it that they served it with a large plate of veggies and herbs on the side. Restaurant was clean and since it is far away from the hustle bustle of the Little Saigon, you can enjoy your meal quietly if that's what you'd prefer. Service was good. We love their Banh It Ram (fried mochi with shrimp and pork). We got their sampler plate which comes with clear tapioca dumpling and two types of steamed dumplings. Their Bun Bo Hue is good: broth is mild. Half their staff only speaks viet: so be prepared to point at the menu. They have clean crispy chili jars which is a good sign of attentiveness. Disappointed to write this, but when service is that off-putting, i wanted to share my experience. My friends planned a little surprise dinner with the 7 of us for my birthday; it wasn't crowded when we were there, so we immediately got a table. However, the service was a bit off putting overall. I say this as a Vietnamese person who can speak the language and understands the culture, so I didn't expect or need over-the-top service in the way other restaurants provide. We were there to eat and to spend time together for my birthday. When my friends got there earlier they had asked if the restaurant could hold the cake in the back or put it in the fridge, to which, they said no. And even that was fine because who knows how much space was back there. Where it got weirder was with the waitress throughout the night because when basic things feel like a chore, it's where I draw the line. Unfortunately, the waitress with glasses was getting ruder as the night went on as we asked for basic things like water refills and to go containers. She spoke English and would be dismissive by making it seem like she understood the requests by cutting off our questions and but then would get it wrong (like not bringing out the right number of to go containers even when we kindly asked multiple times) and had a really annoyed looked with any request made. She also just seemed irritated that we were there even as we ordered a lot of food and left a generous tip. It was just an unpleasant vibe that I would not repeat again as she went out of her way to express her annoyances, which was felt by my entire group. I'd rather go to Hue Kitchen as it's similar, regional food, but the service was really welcoming and great with the delicious food and better prices to match. read more

I've finally found my 2nd fave BBH place in OC. When Vua Bo isn't open, this place almost does the job. The broth is super flavorful with just enough spice, the meat is soft and tender.
