The most notable thing about Pho Flavor is that they serve both Northern and Southern styles of pho and the special stacked servingware for the pho. Quite honestly, we cannot differentiate between the two styles at all. They taste identical. The restaurant is extremely generous with the beef in the pho, to the point where we leave some behind because it is too much. The egg rolls are very good as well, with a pork and shrimp mixture. Didn't think it was a full service sit down restaurant but here we are. The plating style is also "extravagant" with the tripe stack of sauces, herbs, and soup. Interesting and unique. Ordered pho #4 Northern style. Broth was richer and almost creamier than the clear Southern style. Noodles are definitely thicker but dare I say mushier than Southern style; not mushy but much softer. Lastly, the green onions are shredded long and also chopped up. The broth had a more pronounced seasoning; cardamom, coriander, star anise, and others you typically associate with pho. The meatballs were a little dense but they were smaller so easy to eat. The brisket was sliced thin and tender. These flavors were enhanced by the addition of liquid aminos, sriracha, hoisin, mint, jalapeno, and Vietnamese basil in particular. The banh quay was fried dough so I dunked them in the broth. They were tender and airy. Didn't really have flavor except for when I dunked them. I ended up going with the North style pho but with the thinner noodles. The vietnamese coffee was perfect! It was strong but creamy - very well balanced. The pho broth had a good flavor that wasn't too sweet or too savory. I really like how they serve the pho! The eggrolls came out hot and very crunchy - the way God intended. I want to start off this review by saying I am a huge fan of Pho Flavor, I go to the Garden Grove location all the time. It is my favorite Pho restaurant. I will say however that I was extremely disappointed by my experience today at this location. First, I ordered the Southern Style dac biet. I wanted to substitute the round beef for filet mignon, but the server said this was not possible to do. This is really strange because I usually do that at the GG location. She said I had to order the Northern style pho, or purchase an extra side of filet mignon if I wanted the filet mignon. I just ended up going with the round since I wanted the southern style broth. So I asked if I can get the round on the side (which is how I usually order my meat since I don't like it over cooked), the server also said this wasn't possible? I just thought this was overall super strange. She was not very polite about it either. Second, when the pho came, the noodles were hard and clumped at the bottom of the bowl. When I mixed it up, the noodles broke apart... The meat portion while somewhat generous, was dry and not at all juicy and high quality like the GG location. The gau had too much fat. The pickled onions was also not great, very soggy. The positives about this restaurant was how clean the interior was, and how nice the bathroom was. I think service can use improvement. I just don't understand how you can't switch out what meat you want in your pho bowl... it's broth... with toppings.... read more

Such a solid, well-done bowl of pho. I loved the options available to choose between north and south style of pho along with thin or flat noodles. The presentation from the garnishes to the three-tier bowl was so cool and innovative. Price is also pretty good for the amount and quality you get. Flavor of the broth were flavorful and satisfying. Each southern vs northern style broth had its slight differences but both are still delicious. I recommend trying both so you can taste the quality and differences in flavor. I bought the big container of broth only $5 and an order of meat balls $5, $11 n we shared it, it was so delicious. So the last time we got there late near closing time apparently they were low in broth n probably just added a gallon of water, the broth was thin n tasteless, today it was very flavorful hearty soup. Substantial n oh so good meat balls, only 1 suggestion, pl scoop out fatty layer on top, it was too oily, not a good idea for cardiac patients to feast on. This place is terrible. I'm shocked that they have such high ratings. The northern pho tasted exactly like southern pho. So there was def no difference. The broth was super bland, the brisket and tendon was so tough you couldn't even chew through it, the meatball was the size of a nickel. Do they even call that a meatball? The egg rolls are so small and didn't come with the usual herbs and lettuce to wrap it in. It didn't even come with fish sauce. I understand cutting costs, but this was a joke. Its simple, its unique for a run of the mill pho place. I drove from 1 hour away to try it and I'm glad I made it here to try it. I had the northern pho, for the first time in my life, and it was pretty good. Its a subtle difference but you can tell if you are use to the southern style. The wide noodles are so silky soft. The soup is more complex but less savory. Still, it does make you want more soup though. The eggrolls were unlike other eggrolls I've had.
