Absolutely no heart and soul to it, taste wise it was just okay. I had the smaller pastrami sandwich, it was tasty but too chewy for me, the bread was good but somewhat excessive (proportionally) for the smaller sandwich. My friend had the LEO egg sandwich, he said it was fine, maybe he was being nice. I have ordered lox platters to take home from there, I am a fan of that. But going there? This was my first time getting Mamaleh's. In the time of covid they are only doing takeout/curbside pickup. You have to place your order online. I got there at 8am and 2 people greeted me. They were madddd friendly. It was cute. After placing my order there are some tables and shares for the business in the area to have customers sit on. The good stuff: Latkes which came with 3, sour cream and apple sauce. These were pretty good. It wasn't dry on the inside, and was deliciously crunchy on the outside. They give you pretty decent sized ones. Would definitely get again. LEO Breakfast Sandwich was bomb. That thang thang is a melody in your mouth. The challah bread with the lox eggs and that dill mayo are come together so well. The challah bread helps calm down the saltiness of the lox and eggs. Absolutely get!!!! Came here for a weekday late brunch/lunch for 2. Ordered too much and was happy to take leftovers home. Even though Google said it was very busy, we were seated immediately. We wanted to try many things, so we decided to get the beef tongue sandwich and fish plate, share the pickle plate and a vanilla cream lactart, and start with splitting a meat knish. Everything was really tasty! The pickled herring in wine was sweet and briney and wasn't as intense as we expected, and it paired well with the sliced veggies and brined onions and capers. There was a little too much mustard on the beef tongue sandwich for our tastes - both of us aren't huge fans of mustard and the flavor was good, just too overpowering for us. The meat knish was comforting, and everything on the pickle plate was unique and tasty (my favorite was the green tomato pickles) and went well with everything, especially the beef tongue sandwich. My companion's favorite part of our meal was the vanilla cream lactart - it tasted like a cream soda but with more flavor, super tasty! Wow! The BEST reuben (Rachel) I have ever had! Perfectly toasted and comes with a half sour (which is the non-sour) pickle. A bunch of either corned beef or pastrami (you choose) and delicious cole slaw or sauerkraut (you choose). Bummer. I really wanted to be impressed by this place but I was left wanting more food and wishing they didn't charge so much for such terribly small portions. I wasn't feeling well and decided to stray from my S&S usual matzo ball soup. I came here on a sunday around 12 pm and was quoted a a 60-90 minute wait. If you plan on coming here on the weekend, make a reservation on their website! Luckily we were called after 45 minutes. Initially, it took the server a while to come to our table, but once she took our order she was constantly checking up on us! Truly kind and wonderful wait staff. No matter what you do, TRY THE POTATO LATKES. Oh my god, they were out of this world. Get some sour cream and applesauce on those puppies too! We also tried the meat kinish which was alright. I got a pumpernickel bagel toasted with scallion cream cheese and veggies, and my brother and his girlfriend both got the reuben. Everything was fantastic and so flavorful. I've ordered the Reuben from Mamaleh's multiple times. It's on pretty good, bread but overall greasy with too much sourkraut. It was toasted but somehow none of the cheese was melted. They do not skimp on ingredients and included a pickle! It's quality food, but somehow when they assemble it all together it just misses the mark, and is a less-than-enjoyable experience. Taking a seat at the bar and avoiding the wait for a table was the right move as I had great service sitting there and found a convenient power outlet for my phone. I started off with a Chocolate Egg Cream and watched it skillfully prepared right in front of me with the right ingredients. It tasted absolutely perfect. I live 3 minute away from Mamaleh's and thank god I only found this place two months before I moved away otherwise I would have gotten so fat hahahah + Chicken Schnitzel sandwich: AMAZING + Salmon Lox bagel: Taste just like a typical NYC bagel! I've visited Mamaleh's once for brunch and once for Sunday afternoon snack. Although quite different, both experiences were tasty and memorable. I was able to make reservations for 2 for brunch and my friend, originally from Long Island, was impressed by the menu options which "felt like home." The space was packed, and we were seated at a small table in the back room. To start, we ordered spiked egg creams. When told the ingredients (flavored syrup, milk, seltzer), I was hesitant, but the Salted Averna, served with a pretzel rod, is absolutely delicious and not as heavy as most dairy-based drinks. For food, we shared the noodle kugel (ask for it to be warmed), meat hash, and the Leo egg & salmon sandwich. We both agreed that the hash was the winner, with its deliciously tender meat, runny eggs, and side of marble rye toast. A few months later, I heard of Mamaleh's collaboration with Cambridge Brewing Company, so a friend and I returned on Sunday afternoon to sample the CBC Bagel Bock, made with Mamaleh's pumpernickel bagels! The beer is flavorful but not heavy. Great alone or with food! To pair with the bock, we ordered the chopped liver. Again, I was hesitant, as this doesn't sound like the most appetizing dish, but my friend assured me that she grew up on it, and it's not as gross as it sounds. The chopped liver came with with bagel chips, and reminded me of an interesting take on pate. The savory spread was indeed delicious, and a perfect pairing for our beers. This time around, the space was pretty sparse, with only a few diners occupying the tables, and we sat at the bar (which has hooks underneath for your bags - much appreciated). Been here more than a few times. First time was incredible! The latter times not as much. Beware it is quite pricey our typical order is a egg and cheese on everything bagel, small coffee, and a milk shake. The total is well over $20. Also beware of their recent 10% admin fee at checkout. For a take out establishment like this is just kind of odd in my opinion, especially with the high prices. I've had a burnt bagel from here, but generally done well with the caveat being they are a little light on the cheese. Other bagel varieties I've ordered have varied widely between perfection and overtly hard. Milkshake is $7 but phenomenal, probably one of the best in boston/Cambridge with an old fashioned probably homemade cherry topping it. Not the high fructose bleached cherry you find at chick fil a or a similar place, these cherries are the real deal and I love them. Coffee is bitter but not naturally, indicating multiple use of beans and sub par coffee. Really a shame because it comes in a plastic to-go cup with a plastic straw even when you are dining in. Menu items I've had: - The Leo: Delicious breakfast sandwich with Lox, Egg, and carmelized Onion. Had one today to ring in Leo season the dill spread is to die for. And it's inexpensive for the quality, if you ask me! - Turkey Rachel: Can get a little messy! The sauce is very saucy. Yet, the bread still stays intact. I've never been disappointed with this sandwich. - Rugelach: Chocolate is good, but the sugar on the outside makes it a bit too sweet for me. - Pastrami Egg and Cheese: the pastrami is great! I think it's hard to miss with their egg sandwiches. - Corned Beef Rachel: saucy and delicious. Maybe it's a me thing, but I find pastrami sandwiches almost always have too much meat. This one was just right. - Pickles: for some reason, the side of extra pickles tasted oddly fishy. It didn't have the crunch and sourness of the half pickle that comes with the sandwiches. Would try again and will let you know how I feel after that. - Latkes: delicious. A little thicker and crunchier than I make my own latkes, but great if you don't feel like putting in the work yourself! There used to be more brunch plates available for in person dining. It was my second day visiting Boston and since it was pouring, I headed straight to Mamaleh's to fill my stomach before venturing out to walk around rainy Boston. I got there right before 11 which is apparently when table service began, so I took a seat at the bar and waited for it to turn 11 so I could place my order. The service here is a bit slow but the servers were kind. I ordered a sesame bagel with cream cheese as well as the kid's portion of latkes (2), because it seems bagels and latkes were the popular items here. Unfortunately, both were a disappointment. It was my first time trying latkes but they were just like potato and onion pancakes. These were definitely way too salty though so that I was only able to eat one. Oh man, this is THE SPOT to cure your Sunday scaries. First time going to a Jewish deli and it was awesome! Snag an outdoor table while the weather is still nice! I went during peak breakfast time on a Sunday and was able to find seating at the bar! I recommend getting an iced latte, they are huge and delicious. They come in an old fashioned milk shake glass which makes the whole experience even better. The food is wonderful, the portions are great, and the restaurant aesthetics make you feel right at home. **3.5 STARS** SF has a serious lack of Jewish delis and I've been craving some pastrami ever since my last trip to New York so I couldn't wait to try Mamaleh on my recent trip to Boston. Mamaleh is a neighborhood Jewish deli in Cambridge. They serve pastries, bagel and egg sandwiches, as well as fish plates and a bunch of Jewish classics like knish and latkes. I had the pastrami, egg & cheese sandwich (8.75) The sandwich itself is served on some delicious homemade challah roll with scrambled eggs, cheddar, and Russian dressing. There are bits of pastrami in the scrambled egg. To be completely honest, I was a bit disappointed. This tasted much more like an egg sandwich than anything with pastrami. The sandwich has a thick chunk of scrambled egg, but its quite egg heavy and the pastrami definitely gets lost. Maybe some less egg and slices of pastrami separate from the egg would be better, that way you get some pastrami with every bite. I also shared a meat knish (5.50) and potato latkes (10) with my friend. These were also just ok. The meat knish was just ok and the potato latke was over fried, with a deep dark brown color that made it taste greasy. Maybe I just ordered the wrong things and should have gotten a lox plate, but this was definitely a step down from the New York delis. read more

I have been meaning to come here for SO long, and so glad I finally made it! I picked up a bag of 6 bagels, a half-pint of cream cheese, a half-pound of nova lox, a babka muffin, and a bag of frozen cheese blintzes for take out just before they reopened their dining room in June. The bagels are very good, but honestly not the best in Boston. The cream cheese was good - deli cream cheese will always be better than any cream cheese from the grocery store. I was, however, disappointed in the lox, as it was not at all salty (it was Nova, but still). I have yet to cook the blintzes but am anticipating that they will be very good. I would like to return for a sandwich and/or matzo ball soup, as I would think these are their standouts. The babka muffin was delicious. Once I returned home, I warmed it up in the oven and it was great, but also was very good before warming. I am excited for their Washington Square location to open, where I am sure I will frequent. They serve lox plates for lunch! YAY! I hold a strong belief that all places should continue to serve some of their best breakfast options all day long. MD's must have heard my prayers because you can get your smoked salmon on a bagel fix until 4pm. The lox plate itself came deconstructed, which I find fun and I thoroughly enjoy putting it together myself and eating the excess on the side. They provide a good amount of tomatoes, onions, capers, cream cheese, lemons, and lox (although, let's be honest, can there ever be enough lox?) and the bagel was chewy and fresh. As a side note, the menu is pretty extensive and I definitely spent a good 15 minutes looking over it, especially since the selections at this Jewish deli are not your typical breakfast/lunch fares. They have fun old fashioned fountain drinks, milkshakes, alcohol, coffee, and their specialty egg creams.
