We had an opportunity to try Mama's pizza this weekend. I don't know why, but I've lived in or near Arlington since the 70's and never have tried Mama's until now. Joe's, Tony's, and Mamas offer similar priced pizzas each with their own merit. We tried the half pepperoni, half sausage mushroom. Don't order anything from this restaurant. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt but they constantly fail to meet even minimum expectations. I order online and pay online. I expect my food to be ready when I get there. NO this never happens. I end up waiting for 20-30 minute's AFTER the pickup time given online. Holy crap, how have I not written a review of this place!? Best pizza in Arlington and a Friday night tradition at our house. A good 1 or 2 Friday nights a month we get a large pepperoni pizza with Italian sausage to finish off the week. Their pizzas are garlicy and covered in oregano goodness giving it a unique hint of awesomeness. I don't even like the crust of pizzas but I'll eat Mama's. This review is strictly for the pizza itself. The pizza was brought to me and my production crew when we were out on a remote, so I didn't get the chance to go to the shop or interact with any of the staff. I had a couple of slices of the Veggie and a slice of the cheese pizza. The part that I liked about the Veggie pizza was the peppers that they put on it. I'm a huge fan of spicy food and they loaded it down with jalapenos, olives (black and green), onions, etc.. real good! The crust was thick and well seasoned. I normally like thin crust, but whenever it is kind of thick, I really like it a little oily and seasoned, which this one was. Both pizzas were loaded down with cheese...you never have to ask for extra cheese because it's already there! The pizza is very filling. With the cheese, the oily and thick crust, and the loaded toppings, Mama's Pizza does the job by being flavorful and filling! I wouldn't call it "traditional", but it's damn good! Mama's is a nice little pizza joint. It really is just a space that makes standard pizza and that's it. Kinda has a pseudo-grimy feel inside, like my childhood memories of Cici's pizza. Old arcade machine, old TVs in the corners of the single giant room playing whatever sports can be had. Definitely a case of indifference when the owners of this local chain decided they don't need to wow their customers; people coming to Mama's just want some good ole pizza, maybe some beer, and then get back to it. That is the story of my frequent Mama's visits. A day when cooking doesn't sound good and I just want to eat some pizza, I'll order a pick-up. The pizza here is actually pretty good, in my opinion. Lots of cheese, the crust is a bit thicker than normal for NY style and has a buttery flavor to it. It is a bit more expensive than say Domino's or Papa John's, but I think it's worth the extra. They offer a gluten free crust, which actually tastes good, so there's another plus for those afflicted. Again, this place isn't somewhere to take a date. It's not the local restaurant you occasionally use as a wingman to entertain out-of-towners or old friends. Some of the best pizza I've ever had. Their weekday lunch buffet is a major bargain. Just pizza and a limited salad bar. But it's all about the pizza. The crust is rubbed with garlic butter, so it's like eating breadsticks. A very unique pizza. Pricey, but worth it. Coming from someone who doesn't care for pizza this pizza is really good. We got the Supreme it had like 12 or 13 toppings on it, the crust was perfect it wasn't at all soggy. By the time we got there it was cold because my GPS took me somewhere else and when I called for the correct address the girl who answered the phone had no idea and had to ask which was odd because you work there. Anyway it had nice light sauce just like I like. Overall I'll order from there again. One thing I can say is that there are no shortage of pizza joints around where I live. Whether it is franchized or mom and pop italian places. I stopped and got a pizza from here last night: 1. Because it was on my way home from work.. (and who wants to cook on a monday when you've been at work since 7am) NOT ME.. lol 2. I had a Groupon deal that was a value of $14 and I only paid like $7 for it. 3. Why not.. I was tired of gettin Papa John's everytime my boyfriend and I wanted pizza. I have to say whatever they do to their crust is amazing, because to get my boyfriend that doesn't care for crust hardly ever to eat it I thought, Well LOOKY here! I think it was way better than the average place, and def. will stop on my way home from work from time to time! Also one LAST thing, I did order it when I was leaving work, and it was ready at the exact time they said, so I timed it just right and that's always a plus that you don't have to wait longer on a item you called ahead for! read more

This is by far the best Pizza joint I have been to in Arlington. For the uninitiated, when you walk in you place your order at the counter and then seat yourself (if dining in). As another Yelper commented, the place could be cleaned up a little and a little maintenance could be done in the bathrooms, but don't let that deter you from trying their pizzas. I had the gluten free thin crust, and normally when one thinks "gluten free" they think "blech, bland!" Mama's gluten free thin crust will knock your socks off! I added a few toppings also thinking that they would skimp out, but yet again Mama's proved my assumptions wrong, they loaded the pizza with toppings! I couldn't be happier! The pizza was so delicious that the leftovers didn't last a day in my refrigerator! Mama's is my favorite pizza in the world, hands down. But, it seems to be a love it or hate it type of pizza (most people seem to love). The crust at Mama's is unlike any other. I like to tell people that it tastes like a fresh hot pretzel, covered in garlic butter. The pizza itself is covered with the most generous amount of toppings that you will see anywhere. Thick layers of cheese. Lots of meat and veggies. Most pizza joints seem to purposely skimp on ingredients, when they provide pizza buffet style. This is not true at Mama's. The buffet pizza's are every bit as complete as those that are ordered individually. A few years back, it looked like the Mama's franchise was fading away. So, I am thrilled that this does not seem to be the case anymore. Mama's pizza is a gem. If only my diet would allow me to have it more often ;) read more

Got a groupon for Mama's and decided to try it out the other night with a load of teens. It sits in what looks to be an old Pizza Hut building and the decor is dark, dingy, dirty. Old carpets, light fixtures, paneling....bleh. Not retro in a cool way, if you know what I mean. Looking past the interior, the smell was tantalizing......we ordered the 20" pizza to feed 5 of us and got half pineapple, bacon and mushroom, the other half all veggies. The crust was golden greatness....however the middle of the pizza was super soggy. They served this pizza on the pan with no serving utensil....I thought that was pretty wierd....we had to take forks and try to slide slices on our plates. The parts of the pizza that weren't soggy, were delicious. This pizza fed 3 17yr old boys, an 18yr old girl, and my 30-something self. AND there was about 5 slices left....this NEVER happens! Wow, I can't believe all of the bad reviews! We love Mama's, and it's the only pizza place we still frequent. Sure, the interior has much to be desired, but the food makes up for that. We absolutely love the crust. They put a garlic butter coating on it that makes it delicious. Our favorite pizza has onions and green peppers. I usually get it without cheese, but on a rare occasion, I will indulge in some cheesy goodness. Yes, it is a little pricier than other pizza joints, but if you get a larger size, you'll have plenty to eat for days. Love Mama's. Garlic butter on the crust, perfect melty cheese, toppings are fresh and delicious. They let me use a coupon from their website that I pulled up on my phone for $2 off a medium pizza - half pepperoni/green pepper & half hamburger/onion. A pitcher of beer was only $9. Pizza came out quickly even though they were pretty busy on a Sunday night. Ms. Pac-Man arcade game and a few TVs on the walls. I love, love, love Mama's Pizza. I frequented the original in Fort Worth when I was a child and imagine my joy when my favorite Pizza Inn in Arlington turned into a Mama's! I come here weekly, either for carry-out, or lunch buffet. On Saturday, October 31, 2015 I arrived at 1:17 for a buffet that ended at 2. I was allowed to purchase and nothing was said to me. 5 minutes later my cousin arrived and was told the buffet would be putting out any new pizza. The restaurant was chock full of people that had just wiped out the buffet, and new people were still arriving. He, the boyteen manager with a stoic attitude, changed his mind and said he'd be making more. Well, we should have gone with our first mind and not stayed because A) he didn't put out much more and B) the kinds he picked were random and ridiculous if there would only be a few choices. Equally as maddening was the condition of the restaurant. FILTHY!!! No tables available because they hadn't been cleaned. The floor was littered with pizza, crust, napkins, items from the salad bar. Admittedly, I'll probably be back for pickup, but I'll have to live long enough to forget this experience to go back for the buffet. read more

I have been searching for great pizza my whole life and it never occurred to me to search in my hometown. I scoured yelp and Mama's was one of the first pizzeria to pop up. I feel like everything was a little mundane. Yelpers advertised the garlic butter crust. I ate this a month ago and I cannot remember anything special about it. The toppings were the usual, if not too few. I don't think it is worth it to get multiple toppings. The cheese was pretty good but overall, the food just wasn't very impressive. It hurts me to give it two stars. It's pizza. I like pizza. My roommate and I walked here during Icemageddon 2013 when everything froze over. Two days being cooped up and we simply had to leave the house so we ventured out to the closest restaurant and even though it was only us and the employees, we were glad to be around other people. Now I'd actually been to Mama's before for lunch and I remember there being a salad and pizza bar. Whether they didn't offer it due to the expected slow traffic of customers from the storm or got rid of it altogether I don't know; regardless, we ordered off the menu and I was surprised at how pricey it was. We had two small 2 topping pizza, one order of cheestix, and two drinks which came out to just short of $30. Granted in our state of desperation to be out we happily paid it --this was, after all, a vacation in our minds. Still, it was a little steep for being pizza for two. The pizzas were baked fresh and took some time to come out. I spent enough time playing Mrs. Pacman to beat the high score though it doesn't allow you to input your initials so be aware of that before you spend all your quarters. Our cheesestix came out first and the hostess was nice enough to give us a serving of their special Alfredo sauce which she claimed "people either loved or hated" and once I tried it it made sense: while I personally liked the sauce it did have a zing to it that tasted more like creamy salad dressing or a sweeter tartar sauce. Never in a million years would I think to name it Alfredo sauce and catch people off guard. The pizzas themselves had a hefty amount of toppings which was appreciated yet I found mine lacked seasoning and both were rather oily, even for pizza. I ended up salting mine and my roommate continuously coated hers in Parmesan. Mama's Pizza broke our cabin fever, fed us, and sent us home so full that we were satisfied with just a small dinner at night. Still, the pizza was average at best and the price/value ratio is debatable. It's not to say I wouldn't return to Mama's, though I'd definitely check to see when the buffet is available and probably go when they have another Groupon deal available. read more

I came back a couple times and realized I need to downgrade as I found myself less satisfied on future visits. They load the pizza with cheese, but it's not really good cheese. I don't know how this place got glowing reviews. We're not picky at all, eat pretty much anything, & pretty easy to please. Took 30 mins for pizza to come out. The table next to us had the same problem. Pizza was nothing like described by others. Minimal thick sauce, bland crust, cheese was dry. They did put a lot of meat, but overall was not worth the price nor the wait. There was a guy who looked like either the owner or the manager, who just observed & bossed workers around, but didn't interact with customers or lend a hand. Tried Mama's today and I'm pretty happy with the experience. The pizza was really good. The crust was really, really good! The staff was friendly and the ambience was your typical pizza joint (which I liked). The only criticism I have is regarding wait time. We saw people who were dining in waiting a long time for their pizza. We waited quite a bit as well. One guy's pizza was completely forgotten and though he voiced his displeasure nothing was done about it. I LOVED Mama's Pizza, but for reasons that others may not. This is not the kind of pizza place that serves arugula pizza with bacon jam and prosciutto. Mama's Pizza serves 1980's-style pizza in a 1980's-style atmosphere. And that's why I love it. The place is like so many pizza places when we were kids, right down to the rhombus-shaped windows that you used to find in Pizza Huts. There are a few arcade games against a wall. A few unobtrusive TV's. The food is priced to be attractive to teenagers and families, so you will find lots of different demographics dining there. When I visited the restaurant was staffed by friendly teenagers. Really felt like a hangout from an 80's or early 90's movie. The pizza is excellent, although I doubt it would get accolades from trendy food critics. The crust was delicious. Lots of stringy mozzarella. Mama's goes back to my college days in the 90's. I absolutely love their pizza. There really isn't even a close competitor to this place when it comes to straight pizza - not talking about atmosphere, decor, topping selections, or any of that jazz. I'm talking straight pizza, the crust, the cheese, the light sauce. It's just perfect in my book. I think what makes it so perfect is that crust that NOBODY else duplicates, not even close. I'm not sure how they've been able to corner that awesome crust....it's like having a perfect cheese garlic bread-stick at the end of your pizza. Others have tried to trick out their crust but none of it beats mama's. My kids think it's stuffed crust pizza b/c the crust has so much flavor. I drive past Mama's Pizza all time, overlooking this hidden gem. My boyfriend took me on date here, since he was already fan and I never been.
