As expected, the food here is as white-washed as me, but that's okay because that's exactly what I was in the mood for. If you're looking for authentic Chinese food that actual Chinese people eat, this is not the place for you. Stepping into the restaurant, I was greeted by one of the friendliest dudes on the planet. I was only ordering take-out but he offered me a seat along with water or tea. The food came out quickly enough (I got the Mongolian Beef and Peking Shrimp) and I was on my way. Ordered a ton of food and had high hopes for this place. As soon as we got home and started eating it we realized it was NOT good. The only thing that was decent was the plain white rice. I really hate to have to write a bad review for this place. My boyfriend and I have been coming here for the past year on and off, more often in the past couple of months. We really liked it to begin with, we could get a combination meal and split it and it was more than enough for both of us for around 10 bucks. And to be honest anything fried is extremely greasy here but sometimes you just feel like having bad food. Lol Sometimes it tastes good and other times we just look at each other and agree that we feel gross after eating it because it's so greasy. We had been going through the combination dinners trying to find the one that we liked the best, I believe there's about 8-10 of them. I was waiting to try a couple more different dishes before I left a review and unfortunately tonight we got the number 6. I will just be blunt and leave three photos. The number 6 consists of pork fried rice, an egg roll, kung pao chicken, and Mar far chicken. The mar far is just breaded breast meat and if you ever bitten into uncooked raw chicken you know the texture and if you haven't it's the same layered roughness when you're cutting through a piece of raw breast meat, plus it's pink. And we all know how sick uncooked chicken can make you. Now when you are breading raw chicken you have to make sure to fry it long enough to make sure that it's cooked inside and this chicken really had no color to it so it could have been held in the oil a lot longer. And let me just make it clear they were not busy at all, we were there 10 minutes after we placed the order and there was only two cars there, so why they didn't take more time to cook it correctly is beyond me. And then while eating the same thing, a new piece, upon biting into it there was a long black hair weaved through the breading. I bit that part off as soon as I saw it and tried to continue eating but I just couldn't, and once I looked at the piece that I had bit off I realized that the hair was so long that it came through the other side that I had bit off. And it's all weaved through the doughy breading so there's absolutely no way that they could say that that hair was put there by anyone besides the cook while cooking it. This is absolutely disgusting, there was no reason not to cook the food longer, especially chicken. And from what I could see behind where the kitchen is nobody is wearing hair nets. So I'm really disappointed I'm taking the food back to show them and requesting my money back. I don't want to completely bash the food because it does taste good.....The fried rice is great the hot and sour soup is also really really good, as long as you do not get it to go. Honestly they put that scorching hot soup in a little plastic to-go container if you get it to go and by the time you pour it in your bowl at home it smells like plastic. And I know that that can't be healthy. Also their fried shrimp is great, and their BBQ pork. And I'm sure everything else is pretty good overall it's really greasy food though and all of the food can be bad if it's not cooked or people are not wearing hair nets, then that affects any dish that you may order. I came in here the other day and was sad when I found out it was new owners, the previous owners we're so nice and already knew my order by heart! But the new owners seem just as nice, they are very welcoming and it looks like they are keeping the menu the same. I ordered my usual pot stickers and combination tray I always get and everything tasted the same. The only thing different was the egg roll had shrimp inside it, but that's nothing to complain about! Brought dishes of barely warm food to table without the serving utensils, bowls, or plates. Which meant that the food sat and cooled a bit more before we had a chance to eat it. Bowl of rice was not as large as other bowls served to other guests--and it was not hot! sauted cabbage in MOOSHU Shrimp was barely warmed and the shrimp were overcooked and tough. In my estimation, this is probably one of the most authentic Chinese restaurants this side of Portland. I was impressed, and frankly, quite baffled to find such a place in the small, Oregon town of Forest Grove. My waiter (I think also the owner), was very kind and accommodating. The food was excellent. I had the lemon chicken, with egg foo young. (If you don't know what egg foo young is then you need to eat here!) The digs are humble, but the food is great. And the portions are plentiful. It would have added a bit to the experience of there had been some authentic Chinese music playing, just to compliment the authentic feel. They have recently redone the interior of the restaurant. It's much nicer inside now and there is more seating available. My daughter has several food allergies and we were concerned if she'd be able to find anything to eat here. We mentioned it to our waitress and she was very understanding and more than willing to have some changes made to what we ordered to work around her allergies. (She's allergic to wheat, dairy and sugar) She ended up substituting Splenda for the sugar and it was really good. In fact, we liked her's the best. Overall the food was pretty good to very good. We ordered quite an assortment of options so that we could sample a variety of meals. The General Tso's was our favorite. Another note about flexibility. They were more than willing to make the General Tso's spicy or not. I would encourage you to ask. They are very flexible. We're definitely going to return. I moved to Forest Grove earlier this year, and was really wanting Chinese food. I went to Mandarin China restaurant and was totally happy with the service, and the quality of the food. Take out is all they have during the covid outbreak, but the food was prepared quickly, and was still steaming when i got it home. Somehow they've found ways to make dishes taste better, even without deep frying everything! The service was great and super friendly. The prices were great too. I am Chinese, and my parents owned a Chinese take-out place when I was a kid. With the background I have, please trust me, the food was very far BELOW AVERAGE! The foil-wrapped chicken appetizer was the most disgusting thing I've ever tasted. I recommend driving up the road, take a left at the US Bank intersection, and dine at NEW CHINESE CUISINE (on the left side of the street). The secret to good food here? Ask what you should eat, don't look at the menu. The server will tell you what is the freshest and what is the best that they make. They have a menu to appease the public but we don't go by that. Bathroom? Yes, they have 2, they're not open to whomever walks in off the street. You need to sit and order food to use it. When we arrived, we were greeted by an extremely friendly server, seated promptly and catered to completely. The food is, without a doubt, amazing. In fact, I've never had such wonderful Chinese food. It's inexpensive and the portions are huge. I don't think I'll ever eat Chinese anywhere else again. It's a good thing we got there early because by the time we left, there was a wait...But it is completely worth the wait and the drive. It was dry, flavorless, fried dough. Yum... For her main she ordered chow mein. It was bad. All you could taste was bean sprouts. The noodles were bland, it basically tasted like nothing. Now for my food: I ordered the combo with fried rice, sweet and sour pork, and cashew shrimp. DISGUSTING! Honestly If I could think of a word worse than disgusting I would. The fried rice was just rice--it was white still (they forgot soy sauce i guess) with barely any egg or veggies. I drowned it in soy sauce--it was the only edible thing on my plate. The pork was even worse. It was weirdly breaded and covered in sweet and sour sauce (like the kind you dip egg rolls in). I took one bite and couldn't eat any more. The cashew shrimp was disgusting as well. It was clearly frozen shrimp that was microwaved with no seasoning, a bland sauce, with gross microwaved frozen vegetables with a couple cashews thrown on top. My optimism quickly faded with the slow service and meh food.
