Noted most of the other patrons were having breaded and fried offerings which is often a really bad sign for the kind of Chinese food I'm looking for. However, I ordered the string bean and fish dish and asked them to spice it up for me. The green beans were crisp and done just the way I liked. The ling cod melted in my mouth. Mandarin China is the only chinese food place I will eat at! Susie and her husband cook/make amazing dishes. The best I have ever found (and I've tried LOTS of places). Also, their children work there and that family atmosphere really ads to the greatness of this place! I live in Beaverton and will drive the half hour to Forest Grove, just for chinese food! Service was not good, the server was hitting on myself and my 15 year old daughter while we were wating for our togo order. It made it very awkward. He also hit on me while eating there with my husband and made rude comments to my husband. We have been there several time, but will not be going there again unless we find out he is no longer there. When we were there he was also hitting on other females while there husbands where sitting right next to them. They are also very slow. I called in an order and it took 25 minutes. I showed up early to pick up the food as that seemed very long, and there was hardly anybody there and there was only one togo order in front of mine. read more

What a treat, I wasn't expecting much since I moved around the corner. I try not to go as often for budgetary reasons and being in school prevents me from splurging. We were in a way to Gaston and planned to checkout this place. The service was terrible. We got our food 30 minutes after we ordered although we have been told that we will get in 10 mins. Food was very bad which smelled of egg. We ordered almost 5 dishes and none of them were good. read more

What a surprise! The exterior of this restaurant is not very appealing and so I did not expect it to have fresh, cooked to order, delicious Chinese food. My husband and I shared the small hot and sour soup and it was the best I have ever had. And I LOVE hot and sour soup. We had to wait a while for the soup to arrive because they were doing a lot of take out and this soup is made to order. Delicious and worth the wait! Then we shared the Happy Family and it was also very tasty and obviously fresh food. NO MSG. The beef in this dish was incredibly tender. I look forward to trying more beef dishes in the future. The husband and wife owners visited with us at the end of our meal and they are a very sweet couple that bought the restaurant just over a year ago. The interior is very clean and nicely decorated. I am so excited to finally find a healthy and delicious Chinese restaurant in our community! The prices were extremely reasonable too! read more

We have lived in the area more than 20 years and never knew this was here until my sis and husband recently tried it and invited us to go with them. It is great food - fresh and not heavy on the salt. I read complaints on the speed of service ... I was really excited after reading all the reviews. I have not been able to find a really good Chinese restaurant in a long time. Well I was disappointed. The food was really bland, no flavor at all. I had to use tons of sauce to get any flavor in the food. I got the house special fried rice and it was white rice with some vegies and meats in it no flavor in any of it. The Moo Sho was very bland as well I had to add lots of Plum sauce to make it ok. The Orange chicken did not even taste like orange and was rather dry, not hardly any sauce. The Crab Puffs tasted like cream cheese only and I don't think they used real crab it looked like the fake crab to me, real crab is not as red as what was in the puffs, so a big no to that one, don't waist your money. The paper wrapped chicken had way to much fat in it and still not alot of flavor, I don't think they were marinated long enough. Now I grew up in the San Fran Bay area so the Chinese food there is exceptional so I could be very picky, but I will be trying other places to find the one right for me. To add the customer service was exceptional and the restaurant is small and clean. read more

Appetizers and hot and sour soup are definitely above average, atmosphere and service are extremely pleasant, and for about twenty bucks you can FEAST for two- by the time you get the main dish you'll likely be asking for a take home box. I don't know what John P's problem is (he posted on 10/17/12) but we've been enthusiastic customers of Mandarin China for at least 2 years. (Before that, we assumed the previous owners were still in residence, and they surely didn't measure up.) Now, fresh, fresh food: broccoli beef has bright green, tender-crisp broccoli and melt in your mouth beef. Cashew chicken is light and fresh: lots of cashews, super tender chicken and crisp veggies. Anything deep fried has a very light and crispy coating--sweet n sour chicken or shrimp, etc. Sweet n sour sauce is light, not thick and gloppy. Crab puffs are to die for. A lot of food for the money, as usual with American-Chinese restaurants, but MUCH fresher. Not very big and not super fast, but excellent food, and very friendly, attentive service. read more
