Food- we shared their lunch special that included a 14" pizza (we selected "meat lovers") and a small salad (we selected Caesar salad) with 2 drinks. our meal also included fresh baked Feccachio bread with flavored olive oil. Delicious! Our meal arrived promptly, warm and ready to eat! The serving size was perfect for two and could not be more delicious. Service- Excellent! Friendly, professional and prompt. Ambiance- The feel was casual but clean with adequate lighting. They also have a full menu with plenty of offerings and a Gelato counter. "What the focaccia?!!" As a celiac advocate, I'm always on the lookout for places that understand gluten-free dining, and...Mandola's is Il Massimo! We thought we were only venturing out to taste the gluten-free garlic bread offered, however the entire menu is Fantastico! The marinated grilled vegetables were like a little Italian party in the mouth! Gluten free penne - available to sub for all dishes- was cooked safely & soft too (not Al Dante). The gelato bar and gluten-free pine nut cookie was a delicious option among the other Italian dessert delicacies! It's such a fun, separate dessert bar to visit after the meal. What really made our visit special was getting to meet Mr. Mandola himself - a legend--he founded Carrabba's and has now opened over 20 Mandola's locations. The energy in the restaurant is so inviting, and even though you order at the counter, the staff treats you like dining service and like family! The managing partner, Mr. Dunlap, was super attentive and genuinely cares about the customers. He even explained the pizza situation to me--while it's gluten-sensitive because of the oven, they're willing to place it in a separate spot if that works for you. And as mentioned, the pasta dishes are totally celiac-safe! The open kitchen atmosphere is great, and I loved watching the chefs work. Plus, they are really doing well with the common stuff when opening a new place. If you're in the Maitland area and are looking for a fantastic, Italian experience, Mandola's is a must-visit. I live close to Mandolas and went there during their quasi-soft opening. It was disappointing, but I put aside my negative feelings and gave Mandolas another try. Mandolas didn't disappoint me during this visit; it was a pleasant experience, starting with a friendly, attentive staff, well-prepared entrees, and first-rate gelato. The ambiance is spartan. However, the prices seemed higher, and I don't know if that's because of inflation or overhead. My family agreed that Mandolas has found its rhythm and gotten the service and food concept right. I only have a few suggestions: consider padding the chairs, add more seafood dishes, specifically shrimp, which was a Friday special, and more meatless fare. read more

Handcrafted Italian cuisine made on site from scratch that you order from a counter?? What?? The process works! We ordered bruschetta, fried mozzarella, and half moon pasta stuffed with pork mortadella chicken prosciutto ricotta romano with peas and mushrooms in a cream sauce, and a couple glasses of Cabernet. I came to Mandola's on Friday, October 3rd, with a group of friends from church. This was my second visit. I wish this visit was as good as my first had been. I had gastric bypass surgery earlier this year and as a result, I am unable to eat large portions. I told this to the staff member who would be taking my order and asked if there was any way to order a lunch-sized portion. I probably couldn't eat that much either, but it wouldn't be nearly as large as a regular order of anything. Her manager was there and she let him know what I was requesting. He said there wasn't any way to do so. I then asked if there was a way to order a personal-sized pizza that they offer at lunchtime. Again, the answer was no. Even if I ordered a regular one, there would be too much to take home as I don't have anyone at home to share basically a large pizza with and it would be a waste. They have signs emphasizing that the children's menu was strictly for individuals under the age of 12. It's in the menu and on signage at both registers. Since my first two requests were turned down, I didn't dare ask for the children's options. When I was trying to figure out what I could order without wasting food or money, I asked (kind of rhetorically) what could I get? The response was "you could always order sides". What if I wanted something that wasn't a "side"? Those options were very limited to a few proteins or a side order of vegetables. I was very frustrated. I did end up ordering a side of shrimp (which I will say was very good) and a side of asparagus (I won't talk about that). I was very unhappy that this restaurant was not willing to accommodate my special dietary needs. Every other restaurant I've been in has been great and understanding and more than happy to honor my request. I'm not asking for special ingredients or preparations. All I want is to have something made in a much smaller proportion. I've been charged for a child's meal or as a side. I wish I had something nice to say about this experience other than the shrimp being very good. It's highly doubtful that I would return again in the future. read more

Ordered at the counter, the cashier described the Monday chicken meal totally wrong so i found a picture on the menu at the desk and showed her that it looks like a pan sautéed or fried chicken not grilled then she replied " oh yeah i told you the wrong thing " I ordered chicken parm, veggie pasta, a salad and kids spaghetti and meat balls . We were told kids meals were for 12 and under. I mentioned its for our elderly dog who is our kid and she is hungry. She then agreed to give sell it to us. We even mentioned we will be taking her out of the car and eating outside on the patio. ( she asked dining in or outside). Another reason why i wanted the kids meat ball meal for our dog is because we hate to waste food and know that 1-2 meat balls would be plenty. Tip screen at counter doesn't let you change from 18-20% without cancelling transaction at least it did not today. When the food comes out the spaghetti and meat balls were an adult portion and so we naturally stated we did not order a full portion we just wanted the kids portion for our dog and she saw her sitting on the ground at the patio. She immediately got defensive and stated' ..'thats not how it works, we don't serve kids meals unless under 12 ', we serve it like this as an adult meal' and we told her we asked the server and clarified this and she agreed to give it to us for our dog. She became argumentative and said ' thats how it works and she at the register should not have agreed to you' then huffing she went on to saying that she will get the manager . We NEVER wanted a manager we just wanted to eat and feed the meatball to our dog in peace outside. The manager rather quickly came over and asked what was going on , we stated we just wanted to eat now and told him What happened but kept it brief and said ' no big deal'. He came to the defense of the cashier and told us she thought you were joking . Okay so why did she agree? Anyway we had to tell him multiple times politely that we were not interested in discussing this further and just wanted to now eat our meals. He began to ask us what do we do ? ( for a living ) I then checked my receipt and noticed i was charged $14.50 instead of $9 So i stated it is $5.50 more but it is not the money that matters as much as the attitude of the lady who brought the meals out . She made us feel ridiculous for ordering a kids meatball meal for a fur baby. Honestly at this point we were about to get up from our chairs leaving all the food on the table and walk out. Service and hospitality were poor. We didn't do that with respect to the FOOD on Table . Our son had to tell the manager ... Please we just want to begin to eat now. We did express service was very rude, order was communicated incorrectly, order arrived incorrectly so likely we will NOT return. ( we had not yet taken a bite to know if the food was edible, With respect to the food when we finally took a few bites and obviously food was cold by now... everything was below subpar. Chicken parm was rubbery and extremely Salty not sure what they are trying to hide but it felt like eating a tough piece of pure salt. Pasta Origiatta ( veggie pasta) lacked flavor and our dog smelled the meat ball and turned away. Did not eat any of it. We left most of the dishes on the table uneaten. They were not edible and had no flavor. Salad had too much coleslaw type of dressing. As we were walking away another server in the patio area saw all the food left on the table and approached us and asked what happened and we stated. It doesn't taste fresh and its full of salt. She proceeded to say she could call the manager ( same person managing partner Justin) and we replied " please there is no need for that it's alright... Happy New Year" and we all left. This was our second time and obviously we will NOT return. Experience was uncomfortable and kind of humiliating and food we ordered was not good. At the end of the day. The manager did not handle the situation appropriately. Did not apologize and was nonchalant but quick to mention staff were difficult to train ( not something a guest needs to know) . There is another review here based on the similar situation, whereby the customer left with her daughter feeling uncomfortable at the counter and another where the food was not good at all. This means training is really important and it boils down to 'upper management' helping their staff both in the kitchen cooking and service at the counter. read more

My Wife and Daughter have visited this place a couple of times since they opened and talked about how great the food and service was. They finally brought me along and I can only say they were right. The food was delicious, plentiful and filling. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive. The Eggplant Parmesan was delicious and the ladies split the Shrimp Scampi ( the Friday Special ). They were both filled and loved their dinners. The server even brought an empty plate for splitting the dinner. We will be back. Really poor experience with placing a take out order that I prescheduled ahead of time on their site. They texted me a whole FIFTY minutes ahead of the scheduled time that my order was ready. When I got there I explained that I'd scheduled the order for a certain time and that I did not want the food that had been sitting out there around forty minutes. The employee said "it's still kinda warm" and asked if I wanted to just take it. I declined and said please remake it fresh. Then after I was waiting several minutes already he came back and asked if I wanted it actually remade or just reheated. This was handled really poorly in my opinion. Why am I paying restaurant prices for what is basically reheated leftovers at that point? If I wanted a reheated meal I could have gone to a grocery store to get one for a fraction of the price! When I questioned why they made it so early he basically said the kitchen doesn't look at the times on the ticket. Well then the kitchen should be trained properly or else remove the scheduled times option on the website! On top of that the bread in the "new" order was very hard and not fresh, so I suspect they just gave me the old bread which by the time I ate it would have been sitting out well over an hour. I have driven by and wanted to check this place out and a friend of mine suggested it for lunch. It was his fifth time going to this restaurant and my first and it did not disappoint. It's very large inside and you order and then sit down and they bring you the food when it's ready. Everything is so fresh and made onsite. It's delicious. Very authentic. I have a new favorite lunch spot!!! Also, the outside seating is also huge. If the weather wasn't as windy I would have eaten outside. First of all, let me say the food was good. However, we ordered a kid's pizza for our toddler. Everyone else's food came out but the toddler's pizza took another 20 minutes. We all know how that worked out with a hungry toddler and no food for him. The manager did apologize but it was not a great experience. And his pizza was not comped. Also, surprise! The website doesn't tell you that this restaurant is more of a cafeteria style. You walk in, go up to the counter, place your order and they give you a number for your table. Then your food is brought out by food carriers, not waiters. You have to go to a counter in the back to fill your drinks from a soda fountain. Wine samples are served in little plastic cups like the ones you use to put pills in at the hospital. We picked this restaurant for a special occasion because we heard the food was good and we are from out of Orlando. The food was good, but the overall experience was not for the occasion. Wish we had known the type of restaurant it was before going there. Also, expect the prices to be more in line with a more upscale dining establishment, not a semi-fast food one. That being said, now that I know what to expect, I would say it's worth another visit just for the food. read more

Environmental Wise it's amazing it's calm and peaceful it's an open floor plan overall amazing for family events lunch brunch. First salad arrived with dressing. Had to make another one. The second salad arrived with dressing as well. I took the salad because I didn't want to wait. Flavors were good. Soup was salty. My personal pizza was good. The dough had a different texture than other pizza I've had locally. With only two tables being served at the time of our visit, one would think one of the two owners would stop by and ask how everything was. They were sitting at a table having lunch themselves. While I was waiting I engaged in a lovely conversation w Brandon and Josh who could not have been more accommodating and charming. The pizza maker Lo made the "perfect" thin crispy crusted pizza. It was really expensive for what it was. The gelato was good, but I was a bit nervous to try the other flavors because they had a bunch of stuff on the very top. For example, the almond flavor had lots of almonds on the top of the gelato. I picked the safe choice of strawberry. The service was very good with us being greeted as soon as we walked with an explanation of how to order. The atmosphere of the restaurant was inviting and comfortable. The food was just okay with the prices being too high for what you get which was the major downside. Ate here tonight. There were 6 of us. I have to say, it was really good. Don't be fooled by the casual "order at the counter". The food is all cooked right in front of you "to order" in a very open kitchen. It is essentially the same as a sit down restaurant except you order at the counter. The service is excellent. Lots of staff. I hope they keep it staffed that way. We had 3 different pizzas, 2 different salads and the minestrone soup. Everything came out very hot. Because we set right by the kitchen we met Brandon, the kitchen manager. Super nice guy. Gave us some great ideas on how to change things up a little, and provided some nice little extras for us. Smart guy because one of the people at our table has a position that uses a lot of catering and he made fans out of us for sure. Really looking forward to coming back.
