Disappointed. Pizza lacked flavor and was burnt. The staff was not very knowledgeable about the pizza. I have had better tasting pizza from Jets and Papa John's. I still think the best tasting pizza is Alino's or Portofino's. The atmosphere was quaint but cramped. I may try once more once they get the kinks worked out but if I am going to pay $22 for a pizza it should have good flavor. read more

Our second trip to Mandolino's was nothing short of a disaster. The waiter was totally insensitive and unresponsive to our needs. We had a child with us and no child's menu was given. They had a violent shark attack tv program on to watch while eating. Totally disturbing. Waiter insisted that we order more food so we left taking home pizza. The gluten free thin crust was NOT thin. The toppings were charred. Not sure if or when we will return. Such a disappointment. read more

My son and I love the pizza and my wife, who does not eat pizza, had the cauliflower pizza Tupelo Honey style and loved it! Which is great because it means my son and I will be allowed to order more frequently. As a bonus the pizza reheats very nicely so since each pizza is 2 meals worth that helps a lot. read more

Really enjoyed going here. The pizza was a great shareable size and one of the better flavors I've had in the area. The staff was laid back and fun to talk to. It's a cute place and the lunch specials are good. The service was good as well. However, there isn't a child specific menu, which means you're paying ten dollars for a salad and pizza. My nephew definitely didn't eat the salad. It's surprising that a restaurant like this wouldn't have a menu to draw on. The food was good, although the pizza could use some more red sauce. read more

Disappointed. We just moved to Davidson and wanted to check out some new local restaurants. We saw this place the other day while in town and the menu looked good. We stopped by this evening for dinner. We ordered at the register which I did think was a little odd, but not completely unordinary for a pizza place, so didn't think too much about it. We placed our order, got our drinks and sat down. When our pizza was done, the young man brought it over and told us the dining room was closed due to another event. What??!! You close the whole place for an event during your normal business hours? I have never heard of this. No one mentioned it to us and there wasn't a sign on the door or any kind of notice. I specifically looked at the hours when we entered. Upon leaving I noticed a note on printer paper written in marker that said the dining room was closed for an event. This note was placed there after we ordered and sat down. And on top of that, my pizza was burnt. They could have had a new once a week or once every two week customer, but unfortunately I'll use my money elsewhere. read more

I have eaten at this restaurant many times in the past. I practically worked there. I've never craved a pizza more than I crave The Tupelo Honey with sausage, absolutely delicious. I knew it was there, but waited to try it for some reason. Now I regret I hadn't gone sooner. Fabulous small sheet pizzas. Interesting specialty pies, and the ability to create your own, which we did (prosciutto and red peppers). The two of us ate only half and brought the rest home. What a pleasant surprise to find this great pizza and Italian joint hopping on a Friday night! We were seated immediately; offered a great table next to the upstairs fireplace near a window where we could enjoy a romantic dinner. Our server was polite, attentive, and helpful, and returned to the table at least half a dozen times to check on us and refill our drinks even though it was a busy night. The owner or manager personally visited our table and asked how everything was and offered suggestions and invited us to come back for upcoming live music events. The atmosphere was a casual yet rustic sort of charming elegance, with exposed brick walls and nice white tablecloths. The house wine was delicious. The arugula salad was amazing. The calamari was done to perfection. The "Godfather" pizza was absolutely amazing and we are still raving about it. The giant warm cookie with vanilla bean ice cream was the perfect end to our meal. Would I eat here again? No! The space was nice. The pizza was bland. The portion size was ok. We had a cheese pizza and a pepperoni/sausage pizza. My wife had a salad. They offered feta, but it was actually goat cheese. I don't know the difference, but she can tell. She also made a comment that the glass of wine was not a normal pour. She thought it was more like half a pour. We also were given dirty plates for our pizza. The pizza itself was was kind of a hand tossed thickness. It wasn't very cheesy and didn't have much sauce. It was more like breadsticks to me than pizza. I would go to Alinos or vinyl PI instead. I would even recommend brick house or fuel for pizza in Davidson. Sorry but we won't be back. read more

I'll give it a second star because the staff was very friendly and accommodating. But when the only items on your very limited and overpriced menu are pizza and salads, they had better be phenomenal. I wasn't impressed with either. We ordered a caprese salad that had three slices of dry rubbery mozzarella and four charred yet flavorless cherry tomatoes along with some bland EVO, a decent balsamic, a little pesto, and some microgreens. Not worth $9 in my opinion. Also ordered a pizza with sausage and pepperoni. About half of the pepperonis were burnt. Not crispy, burnt. Most of the pizza had no sausage on the slices, and at least one piece didn't have any cheese on it either. The pizza here is cooked and served on half-sized sheet pans, and while the corners had some color, the sides and bottoms had no char or color. While technically it was cooked through, I would still consider it underdone. The middle six slices were also soaked in grease on the botttom. At a $20 price point ($14 for the base pie, $3 each for the burnt pepperoni and nonexistent sausage) I expected much more in terms of quality. read more

Had very high hopes for this place as we patiently waited for it to finally open. Interior is very nice and inviting. The menu is very limited, with no appetizers? More wine/beer selection than food, which is odd. Did not get straws with our water. We ordered a red pizza with different toppings on each side. Watched several tables get seated and order well after us but our food came out much later. Apparently they cooked it wrong the first time, but the pizza they finally brought out was burnt so bad on the sides that 1/3 of the pizza wasn't really edible unless you like the flavor of burnt crust. Surprised management didn't bring the pizza and apologize that it took so long, he spent plenty of time talking to other patrons he knew. The toppings were very generous and the pizza was okay, nothing to write home about. I liked the topping selection that's available. Will wait a few months until kinks are worked out and give it one more shot. read more

Fabulous! Today we had the lunch special and what a deal! Huge piece of pizza , fresh salad nice and cold, and a beverage. Only $10!! You get to pick 3 toppings for the pizza. The crust is crunchy but not super thin. Sooooo tasty. My only comment would be to cut the slice in half. It's hard to cut w a butter knife. It's a huge piece! read more

First time trying Mandilino's and it did not disappoint! The Caprese Seasonal appetizer was delicious. The pizza is big and fed our family of three with a piece leftover. Absolutely delicious pizza! It is rectangular and not just your run of the mill menu. I thought the sauce, crust and toppings were great. It was not greasy. My super picky 9 year old thought i was great! Server was fantastic and attentive even while they were busy on a Friday night. Nice open floor plan and you get a glimpse of where the cooking happens. I absolutely had to find anything wrong...I would say the draft beer I ordered was not that cold. It was great tasting but they might need to keep it at a colder temp or serve in a cold glass. But we will absolutely be back! I recommend going with the "red" pie and choosing your own toppings. read more

Just attended the Friends & Family soft opening. Staff is very friendly and attentive. We did the Bonamassa pizza off of the menu as well as a build your own. The crust is light and not nearly as filling as most pizza crust. Highly recommend this new addition to Davidson! read more

Service, far below par. Definitely not our waitresses fault, but the kitchen staff did not impress us one bit. Came in for lunch on a Sunday afternoon, being one of maybe three groups at the restaurant. Nearly forty minutes went by since we ordered and we were very frustrated so we ask our waitress how much longer until our pizza is ready (since twenty minutes prior she said it would be out "very soon"). A man came in, ordered, waited, and left with his pizza in the in between time since we have ordered! Our waitress comes back 10 minutes later (after "checking on our pizza") to tell us our pizza was burnt and they were going to start remaking it. Ridiculous! You have one job to cook pizza! I mean seriously...nearly 1 hour after we ordered, our pizza was put in the oven. The waitress says to us they are going to compensate for their mistake and either discount or comp our pizza. As we are finishing up - the manager brings us a cookie dessert. We were stuffed! A nice gesture, but the waitress and manager were not on the same page. The pizza was indeed out of this world delicious. The problem was the server. She's a blond bartender and started out nice. She didn't check back often and when I couldn't access their guest WI-FI and seemingly interrupted her...she steppe away for a moment, returned and gruffly set a plastic frame with all sorts of info about a cable company. She stated "there, now you've got all you need to know about WIFI here". Rude and disrespectful. BTW, the place was not packed. I was there with a friend who left early after he's paid his tab. She had to nerve to ask if that was our first date. The next thing I know it's an hour before closing time and I'm still enjoying a bit of my meal when she slaps the bill in front of me. UM, I didn't ask for it. I wasn't drinking alcohol. I literally googled their website to see that they didn't close until 10pm. So I continued to sit there and request water refills until I was ready to cash out. Again, it wasn't busy at all. Someone said it's because the upstairs manager gets antsy and wants to close out early at night. WHAT? This is a SERVICE INDUSTRY. I would have given them a 1 based on my bad experience, and a 5 based on the incredible food, so I was generous with a 3. I hope management follow up with this gal. She was training a new guy who'd only been there for 2 nights. I'll be back, only if I don't spot her!!!! read more
