I've been to the Chinatown location many times. Happened to be in the area and wanted to drop by for some comfort desserts on a cold day. Menu was the same as that of Chinatown and the store was way more spacious. It was empty when I was there and was greeted by the staff right away. My favorite was always the papaya snow fungus with almond. For whatever reason, the one here has no taste (not even sweet) and was very diluted. Definitely not worth the $5.5 a small bowl. On the other hand, the Ube soup with sago and rice ball was delicious. Guess Ube seems to have the type nowadays. The black sesame paste soup with rice ball was good. Price was pretty high for a small bowl. The staff was very nice. Mango Mango does have a good selection of traditional Chinese sweet soups and desserts. read more

Mango Mango has a great collection of desserts which was unexpected since it's focused around one fruit, but they surprised me with how much they had to offer. Not all items are unique but similar. That doesn't take away from the fact that there are so many dishes. The dishes are good portions too! The service is excellent and attentive. We ordered Special Mango Juice Sago and Pomelo and Mixed Fresh Fruit with Sago and Jelly. The jelly was refreshing, which stood out. This has to be one of the most dirty, unappealing, and messy establishments I've visited in this country and definitely in New York. When I walked in I was shocked to see open trash bags sitting on the floor next to the bathroom going into the kitchen. There were random objects littered by the front seat next to the window in which I was sitting at. The concrete floor on the inside had many stains and old black gum plastered to it. I went to use the bathroom and there were stains all over the light switch and the floor was coated with urine. The food was bland and unappealing. I love desserts and especially mango mango. I always have to hit a mango mango spot when I'm visiting the city. I'm a mango lover as well. So when you put two together, I'll always be coming back. I normally go to the one in Chinatown or flushing but I was in st marks so I thought I give this location a try. I didn't even know there was one at st marks until my friend told me. This location has more space than the one in Chinatown. It is cozy and great place to hang out with friends. I love the combination menu. Which is kinda ok an the level of "I'm glad there exists Chinese dessert places in NYC", but not great by West Coast Asian community standards. Their desserts focus on flavor combos of mango (would think so given the name), green tea, red bean, sesame, taro, lychee and durian. Add tapioca and ice cream into the mix and you have a simple refreshing dessert without the heaviness of cream and butter (tho nothing wrong with those either... ;) Service is friendly and they seem like fairly nice people, but in this location they look confused, like they hired their friend's younger siblings for summer jobs--they're anxious to do well, but not exactly sure what they should do. We went as a party of 3 on a Tuesday evening. It is very rare to find a mango-specialized dessert place in the U.S. That being said, when I pay $9+ for the Mango Juice with Sago and Pomelo + ice cream, I expect a little more than a single scoop of (very mild-flavored) mango ice cream dunked in a cup of bland mango juice with maybe a dozen pieces of diced mango. For me, the dessert clearly lacked flavor. I found the pomelo to provide a refreshing kick of flavor, but there was about a single tablespoon of it, which definitely did not help a lot. Additionally, the three of us ordered something different, but every dish tasted almost identical, even the one labeled "strawberry mango juice" -- in case you are torn between different options. Overall, the ambiance is nice and the mango pieces did not feel unripe, but between the unexciting dessert and the extremely apparent problem of being understaffed, to the point where we had to walk up to the counter to ask for a check after waiting for a while (and we were denied to pay at the counter for the reason that she has to bring the check to our table, which forced us to wait for even longer), I would rate this on the lower side of 3/5. If you value ambiance more than the taste of the food itself, I would recommend paying this place a visit. Otherwise, there are other better places. read more

However, I don't think we got any sago in our dessert - maybe they were out? The showstopper of this visit was the crepe! We got the Mango Nutella Crepe with Matcha Ice Cream. The crepe was perfectly thin and crispy, and was filled with whipped cream and mangoes. Put together with matcha ice cream, this was a harmonious dessert and the table next to ours also ordered the same thing after seeing us devour it in seconds. I think that the shop itself is quite cute. The food itself is pretty good, but not amazing. I think it really depends on the season for mangoes and what you're ordering. I think their core desserts (bowls with fruit and juice) are pretty good, but I didn't love the mochi or cream puffs that I've ordered before. I appreciate that the menu is quite extensive, but I would just stick to their more popular items. This location was more spacious and there was more comfortable seating than the Chinatown location. They have mango and fruit flavored Asian desserts (mochi, pancake, ice cream, sago, pudding, soup). We ordered Combo B (Combo A was sold out) and the green tea mille crepe cake. The Combo B had mango pancake, mango juice with mochi/ice cream/mango, and snow white mango juice with sago/pomelo/ice cream/mango. The mango pancake was mostly cream. The green tea mille crepe cake was not very thick or creamy. I did like both mango juices. They had a lot of ripe mango and the mango ice cream was not melted. Service was good, fast and friendly.
