I loved Manny's! The chicken was well seasoned and garlicky, the Portuguese beans were very good as well as the burgers, but that was a decade or more ago. Then and up to 2020 we ordered Manny's at least three or four times a month. A couple of years ago things changed. I know the owner died and that always makes a difference if they are not committed to the same process. I am hoping whoever owns it now would get back on track and make a better showing. Spur of the moment stop for us while visiting family in Stockton . We've been here many times and unfortunately it's been hit or miss but today was pretty good . I ordered the fish and chips . Fries were nice and crisp and the fish had a good flavor with light batter which I prefer. I was given a generous amount of lemon wedges and tarter sauce even a side of slaw which went perfectly with the fish . My husband always orders the chicken sandwich . By his facial expressions while eating I knew he was taken back once again to his younger days when he lived in Stockton and would get a chicken sandwich at least once a week . Service is always great and ambiance is always fine with upbeat music playing at times. First time getting the chicken dinner 8 piece. Im sure the sides for 8 pieces of chicken has been they way they are forever but its not enough of a side. In picture on a plate is the whole side of coleslaw for the piece. The beans are half and the corn is also half the container. The fries were sufficient and the garlic bread was too. I just have to buy more sides if I want to feed more people. I've been coming to Manny's since I was a kid. There is nothing but good food on the menu and I usually go with the Monterey Jack. Today I went with the Chicken sandwich and it was amazing. Service was very friendly a huge change from a couple years ago. Greeted with a smile and hello. Person that helped me was friendly and even offers helpful suggestions. Ingredients are cheap, execution is sloppy, and whatever pride once existed is gone. I've given Manny's multiple chances since the change, ordering different items I used to love. I've been going to this place for many years and not once have I ever had issues until now. I went for dinner on April 6th and did a phone order because I know there is usually a wait time. Upon arriving we were greeted by a nicer girl but when it came to ring us up and bag our food we got a more negative girl who seemed like she didn't want to be there at all. As always I trust them because I've never had any problems when I get my food here, so I didn't take my receipt and upon getting home I went to go hand out food to my family to discover that they didn't give me all my food. So I attempted to call them because I knew they were still technically open, but they had already disconnected the phone lines for the night. Knowing that they aren't open Tuesday or Thursday, I messaged them on Instagram and never received a response. So we called them Thursday morning to see if we can get our issues resolved and possible get our money back and the person we talked to said there was nothing we can do because we didn't have a receipt and that they don't give out food that they forgot to give me in the first place. So now I'm out $30+ dollars because they are frauds and rip their customers off because of a mistake there workers made the day I went in. Glad to be back after around 16 years, service was great and professional. Brought back many great memories when I was here last with my mother Placing order was fast and food didn't take long to be done. First thing I noticed is that the chicken sandwich was noticeably smaller. Smaller because I had to lift the top have of the sandwich to check if they forgot to add chicken. What I found was to thinly sliced pieces, not the larger portion that used to be served as a sandwich. Good side is it was still very tasty, but hugely disappointed that it was wayyyyyy smaller. I can tell they're trying to rebuild their reputation! Manny's has always been a favorite hometown spot for me. I grew up with it and always make a trip there when visiting home. After moving from Stockton about 14 years ago, I knew things were declining from what friends and family had experiences -- mostly regarding service and quality, but I knew from their social media, ownership changed and efforts were made to reestablish themselves in the community. I came in recently while visiting family and was pleased with our visit. We came for dinner on a Saturday evening. It was clean and the staff was very friendly and thorough. The breast of chicken sandwich is my go-to order and I was impressed -- the quality was as I remembered and it was BIGGER/LONGER! Also, their fries changed, in a good way. It's been a few years since I have been here but I decided to stop here for lunch. Two people were ahead of me ordering. I was called up to the counter to place my order. She wasn't very friendly or welcoming but whatever floats her boat I guess. I ordered a 2 piece dinner with beans and a drink. She said she would ring me up after the two in front of me so I told her I was going to the restroom and I would be back. I go to the bathroom and it needs a code. She heard me say I was going to the bathroom so why not say hold on because you need a code. So I walk back to the front to get the code and pay. I enter the code and there's a lady in there with her pants down. Embarrassing for both of us. I go in after her and on the inside it literally says "DO NOT TOUCH LOCK!!!" So that's cool that it's locked from the outside but god forbid it takes several minutes to use the bathroom and someone with the code walks in. Get a different lock! No one should be walking in on someone and no one likes to be walked in on! Like what the hell is this! Got my food. It was good, I would give it a 3 out 5. But this bathroom thing and the bad customer service reminds me why I stopped coming here. The customer service here sucks. I have been in customer service for 20 years and this place is not it. Came here by the recommendations of family members and the food was really good, 1/2 pound manny burger was really flavorful but one my disappointments was they don't sell chili cheese fries but sell chili burgers, when I asked the cashier who was super friendly had asked the cook about chili cheese fries she came back and said no that we would have to order fries and a bowl of chili separately but no cheese. So I ended up ordering as they mentioned but again I asked if they could just put cheese on top of the chili and I would just build it myself but the cook said no which I don't understand why if I'm a paying a customer and all the ingredients are a available just makes makes no sense regardless if it's not on the menu and I'm willing to pay for the items à la cart. The older lady that was the cook either had bad day or just wasn't willing to accommodate the customers. Customer Service started out great with me sharing I hadn't been to Manny's in over 20 years and brought a friend that had never been there. Okay we charge for sauce now 60 cents each. No problem! (You used to get one free). The review went down to one star based off of the lack of professional etiquette which is the ultimate summary for this adventure. Ordered 2 bacon cheeseburgers, 2 fries, and prior to, I REPEAT PRIOR TO, ordering a drink I asked if there are free refills. Ivan said YES! Refill one, refill two, upon asking for the third refill Ivan straight faced told me that I cant have anymore refills. Excuse me? "You cant have anymore refills." I purchased a soft drink under the terms free refills. Ivan tells me that yes and I told you incorrectly. After me explaining to Ivan that this is not my issue but rather a training issue with misinformation being given to the customer, that either he needs to give another refill or write down the Managers name. Ivan told me no that the Manager and Owner were there. I asked Ivan, O, well please get them because it is not professional to argue with the customer." Ivan goes back and speaks with whoever and returns to tell me that they said they were both busy. I told Ivan, "Under the false advertisement of you telling me there were refills and I purchased a drink, you either go refill or give me a refund for the drink." 8/23/23 - I haven't been to this restaurant since before the Pandemic. It sounds really weird for me to say that when this was my place to get the avocado burger, fries & Pepsi. Well, I have been hearing so much about the chicken sandwich. I was visiting my mother at St. Joseph's and all the nurses were talking about this chicken sandwich. So, yesterday I tried one. The chicken sandwich (breast of chicken sandwich) was good !!! Yes, it is the best chicken sandwich I have had in a long time. I forgot years ago when I was a teenager, Manny's used to be on the corner of Hammer Lane & Pacific and they sold broasted chicken. I will come back to try their oyster sandwich and get another chicken sandwich. They still have their menu nicely printed on their chalkboard. And, since I have been there, they have put up a nicer menu board. But nothing else has changed. There was six of us in our group and she promptly assisted us with our orders with a smile. Having never been here before, I ordered the avocado burger with fries and a drink. The total came out to $21 and some change. I don't mind paying those price points if the quality and portion size reflect it. I have to say when my food arrived, the burgers appeal was disappointing. The meat patty was pretty thin and reminded me of the frozen pack one can purchase at the grocery store. The burger is by far overpowered by mostly bread. The fries on the other hand were delicious. Unfortunately, the price did not reflect the quality on this burger. I think a thicker patty would do this burger more justice. And also the Manny Dog and some fries. The size of the chicken was shocking to say the least for the price it was ridiculous. I would actually recommend that people go to this restaurant now! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because they still have not updated the inside.
