Omg these malasadas were warm and fresh. We got the pineapple, cookie butter, peanut butter and chocolate, lemon zest, plain, and ube cheesecake. The pineapple with sugar was so delicious and it was the perfect amount of filling. The plain one was light and fluffy. The peanut butter and chocolate was good and you definitely get your peanut butter fix. The lemon zest was the perfect amount of lemon and sweet. The ube cheesecake was just right and not too sweet. They definitely need to be eaten within 2 days otherwise they get too hard. I'm sure if we had an oven or something to warm it up, it would have been fine. Fair warning, the sugar goes everywhere. I was skeptical because of the reviews I saw here about the long wait times, but I did come when it was raining so i'm not sure if that has something to do with it. Fresh and hot malasadas. Because they are made to order, the treats are screaming hot. The lady making them warns you to let them set and cool a bit. Very hard as the tantalizing smells fill your car as you drive away. We ordered the Ube cheesecake, blueberry, Bavarian cream, guava, mango, and lilikoi. Powdered sugar on the first three and Li Hung Mui powder with sugar on the last three. So good. It is tempting to order a dozen as the two couples in front of us did. The choices are endless. We were driving back to our hotel after dinner and spotted Manuela Malasada so of course we did the only reasonable thing and stopped! They were down to their last dozen, so our timing was lucky. Apparently they go through 80 lbs of dough each day, which makes 200 dozen malasadas, and when they're out, they're out. I've had malasadas a few times and these were hands down my favorite. I loved the perfect hint of crisp/crunch on the outside and the soft, pillowy interior. We got lilikoi with li hing (sour plum sugar), guava cheesecake with plain sugar, and haupia (coconut custard) with powdered sugar. They were all delicious! It was definitely a I'm-stuffed-from-dinner-but-I-can't-stop-eating-these-because-they're-so-good kind of situation. Malasada's are Portuguese donuts that are filled, why to pay extra for a filling? Too expensive

I hate to give a bad review, but I was disappointed with the malasadas. Ordered the haupia malasada (expecting a custardy filling similar to Leonard's in Oahu). The "haupia" filling is a runny syrup with a tangy taste. I thought she had accidentally given me Lilikoi, but it turned out there was no mistake. After waiting 25 minutes for 6 malasadas, I would look elsewhere. Two of the six malasadas looked like they had no filling, so I went back to the counter and asked if they could fill it. It turned out that the syrup filling was just absorbed inside the malasada. To clarify, I was not offered a refund (but that would not have been necessary). Just wanted to make sure that the filling was in there since it's an extra $1 per filling. read more

You can deep fry a turd and make it taste good. This is about as close to the literal meaning of that. One man shop running things, 45 minute wait to order (about 6 person in line), another 45 to wait on the order. Flies swarming the inside. The person behind us was the last to get their order in before the dough was gone. Person running it didn't bother to tell the dozen people beyond them the dough was about to be out. The pastry itself is a flop. It's $17 for a dozen and then an additional $1 for filling per donut. Our pastries averaged a 1/4 tspn of filling. The pastry itself isn't like your traditional malasada, it's dense and crunchy on the outside (like a hard beignet) - good sweet flavor though. If you're expecting Leonard's then you need to lower the bar - you'll be disappointed if not. This place appears to be the only game in town though. Covid ran all the others off (reading through other options). Tourists are bouncing back however, so anyone capable of making a decent malasada could easily beat the current "competition." read more

We got some of the regular malasada's as well as the guava one. Overall, they were very good, although with a different, slightly firmer texture than you would find at Leonard's on Oahu or Tex's on the big island.
